Alfie the Doorstep Cat returns with his kitten George in the fifth novel in this heartwarming series. This time he has new neighbours to befriend, as well as a taciturn elderly widower who is struggling to live independently to help and also the couple who own Alfie’s girlfriend, the mother of George. The new next door neighbours have returned to London from Japan and they have a house cat that never goes out. George is once again smitten!
With more friends and neighbours than ever, the time is ripe for Alfie and George to have more adventures. But as Christmas nears, can Alfie sort out all the problems and squabbles in his community and save the day. You bet he can!
I really enjoyed this novel and it was just lovely to meet the characters from the neighbourhood once again. The children are growing up and their parents are getting ready for Christmas and beyond. Everyone is very busy, the children are excited and their close friendships are thriving. Alfie’s family are hosting Christmas day this year, the same as last year at their holiday property and everyone is invited to join in the festivities. There’s even a fledgling romance in the air. Meeting Alfie’s three families one more is delightful, their characters and lives developing further. This novel is all about family and community and is a real feel-good read suitable for families and young adult readers alike. It’s highly recommended by me.

Book 5 by Alfie and George. I have to say I loved this book more then the other books before. Even though book 1-4 were already great, I laughed and cried at this one. All kinds of emotions came surfing to my mind. I loved how fresh and cute George can be. Alfie will always save the day. I hope book 6 won't take long to write.

I always like to have a book that is a bit lighter than the psychological thriller/crime books I mostly read. Alfie in the Snow was one I picked that I could pick up & put down whenever I need a break. However that isn't to say that it is a lesser book than the others.

I hadn't read any of the previous 'Alfie' books but that didn't spoil my enjoyment. I soon felt at home with all the animals & humans that pepper the story. It is a nice quite gentle read that has a lot to say about friendship, grief & loneliness that is relevant whether you are a human or a cat!

I enjoyed it & would like to thank Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

Buongiorno a tutte mie Fenici!

This is one of the best books I've read this year.
When I started reading the Alfie books I enjoyed them a bit but I wasn't crazy about it. I feel that either a) I've warmed up to the characters and the book series or b) the writer has improved so much in this book. Normally in each Alfie book there is some sort of drama that Alfie decides to sort out and then everyone is happy, that seems to be the regular formula. But something just sparked with this book, I was really invested in the big problem(s) that were happening and also something happened in this book that made me tear up in almost every single chapter. I thought this book handled the topic of grief extremely well and because of that it made me so upset. I also thought it was great that the aspect of grief was written so well because Rachel Wells hasn't done that before.

The plot was really interesting and hooked me in.
The characters (which I already think are done well as they all have their own personalities) grew and we get to see how they all mature in their own ways (which also makes me sad because all the kids are growing up)

The only thing I would have originally critiqued is the way Wells writes about teenagers as she describes them as grumpy, always on their phones, never speaks to anyone and is always in their room. And I first I thought 'teenagers aren't really like that' but then I realised I was being silly and teenagers are pretty much like that.

So far this has been my favourite book of the series, and after writing all my thoughts down I think I shall change my 4 star rating into a 5 because I really enjoyed it, thought it was written really well and it played with my emotions (and when a book does that It instantly goes on my good books list) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I have read a couple of the Alfie books and they are all fun, but there are some great themes and messages. They do not have to be read in order. The stories are set on Edgar Road and star the pets in the community. Alfie calls himself a doorstep cat, he has one main owner, but also visits and stays with others at times. He is the leader of the little group. In this story a woman and her daughter move in with their cat HaNa. There is a divorce and they have returned from Japan. The cats will do what they can to make to them feel welcome. There is also a man that lives in an older, dreary home, who wants everyone to just leave him alone. There is a death and grief plays a large part in the story.

Alfie and his "son" George live happily on Edgar street with his family, who welcome the new family to the neighbourhood. His boy develops feelings toward the new girl, and George becomes smitten with her cat. Everyone is not happy about this new relationship, and it get to the point where they make a scary decision. Meanwhile Alfie's "wife" and George's "mother" is nearing the end of her life and it was sad to see this end of life story and the grief that George and Alfie feel. George "befriends" the crotchety neighbour at the end of the street and it is there that Alfie finds him to talk. They are there when needed. These stories are populated with wonderful pets that affect the lives of their owners and friends in various ways. This one ties everything up by Christmas and is a great family story. Themes include death, grief, young love, community, health issues and family.

In the run up to Christmas, what better way to get into the spirit than spend some quality time with Alfie, George and friends.

This particular story has a very sombre feel to it. I can't go into why but there was definitely a few teary moments that had me reaching for the tissues. In parts, it really does make for some emotional reading.

The story really gets you into that festive mood. The whole sense of that time of year came flooding through the pages and I was getting as excited as the rest of the families in the book. It almost had me rushing to get all my Christmas decorations up. Almost but not quite.

I love how through a cat, the author manages to tackle lots of everyday subjects. Again I don't want to go into any real detail with the story but it will make you sit back and think of others. Christmas can be a hard time for people for various reasons but I love how people come together, with the help of Alfie of course and show what the true spirit of Christmas is all about.

Alfie In The Snow is a festive read that will make you feel all warm and cosy inside. It will have you laugh and cry as well as empathise with the families in the story. Another delightful and entertaining read in the Alfie series that can all be read as stand alone's.

My thanks to Avon and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

This is book n. 5 in Alphie's story, but it can also be read as a stand alone book. Alphie is a cat that likes to help people, and now he has George by his side, a kitten he considers his own son and who takes after him.
In this book we met Sylvie, a woman who has been recently divorced and moved back to London from Japan and her daughter, Connie. They also have a she cat called Hannah. We are going to be "following" this family pretty close, as well as a cranky old neighbourgh and the rest of the usual suspects. There is also a story involving Alphie and his cat girl Tiger that is gonna be very sad to read, but that I somewhat felt that ended up dragging a bit as it was constantly present even when mayne ot wasn't needed to be, because I felt it didn't felt natural but forced sometimes.
All in all, it was a good book in the seriew, but IMO I felt it dragged a bit on some points and needed more action. There is also some attitudes that didn't made a lot of sense, i.e. Sylvie's towards Connie and Aleksy. I know it gets explained in the book at the end and the book needed that twist, but it felt like stretched to far to me, even the cats thought it made no sense! hehe
With the intro of a certain character by the end of the book I guess maybe Sylvie's life is gonna get sorted out. And that means... another Alphie's book? Yes, please! :)

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!

This was my first Alfie book, although I have heard of them previous to getting the approval. I knew they were animal fiction, but I wasn't sure what age they were geared towards. I felt like the writing was too immature in places, giving the book a very childish feel (not that there is anything wrong with childish) but then it swung into serious territory, talking about death and it all ending up feeling very confused for me. Maybe I wouldn't mind so much had I read the previous books, but I usually prode myself on being able to read anything without a problem.

I did enjoy parts of this, but ultimately it felt flat and awkward. Three stars.

Actual rating 3.5/5

A solid winter/Christmas-themed read about the happenings at Edgar Road and two brave cats trying to help make the best of it. It manages to feel rather realistic, heartfelt but also heartbreaking at times, with a few thrilling moments. Alfie and George are also just such lovable characters.

My main gripe came in the form of the character of Sylvie, who does some abhorrent things in this book, all the while the book is still trying (and failing) to make her a sympathetic character. She just want too far beyond the point of likability for me to care about her. I didn't care about her last minute half-arsed change of mind, she was just awful throughout this book.

That aside, this is a solid one.

This book is not my usual read by any means and I would never have chosen it but it came in a box of YA books I picked up from Ebay. The premise of the book being that its told from the POV of Alfie the cat. Its weird to hear the thoughts a cat is having. Very little happens so it's a bit of a drag but it does have quite a sad part that is quite emotional and it was easy enough to whizz through, hence why it is awarded 2*s instead of 1 from me.

Audiobook. 4 stars.

Lots of feels, from very sad to laugh out loud. Not always even, sometimes a three, sometimes a five, so a compromise at four.

A great Christmas time read.

Oh I do love reading the Alfie books, being reacquainted with Alfie, little George and all of the other characters is always such a joy and pleasure.

There were a fair few scenes that made me giggle, just so entertaining. There was also a bit in the story which was very sad and it bought a tear to my eye, that's all I'm saying though as don't want to give spoliers.

So if you love cats, I highly recommend thos book and all the ones that come before it.

I thought this would be a light, fun Christmas read, especially as the story is told from the perspective of Alfie the Doorstep Cat. A doorstep cat is one who claims various families as "his".

Alfie takes his duties very seriously, and although he lives with Claire, Jonathan and their children, he takes care of several other families on the street. His plans to solve problems don't always work out as planned but in the end he does get things right. When a couple of teens plan to run away together, Alfie carries on in a hilarious manner until the parents are aware of the situation. When an elderly man falls in his home, Alfie fetches Jonathan and Claire to come help. Once out of the hospital, the grumpy old man becomes part of the regular street "family".

But the book is not all Christmas fun and games. Alfie's girlfriend, Tiger, is very quiet and is tired all the time. When her family takes her to the vet she tells Alfie that it is nothing serious and she is getting better. Soon, however, she can no longer hide the truth that she is dying. She passes away just before Christmas and Alfie and George have to struggle to keep from drowning in sadness over the holiday. Alfie tries hard to keep himself together for the sake of his son, who is taking his Tiger Mum's death very hard.

In spite of his sometimes teenage attitude, George is still a great joy to his father. The children smuggle the cats into their Nativity play and bring the house down when Joseph announces "And Baby Jesus is a Cat". George becomes an internet sensation when he is videoed leaping out of the manger in all his cuteness. Although the audience loved the play, the headmistress was not impressed.

So although this particular book almost had me putting it down because parts are so sad, I will likely read more from the series.

Alfie is a doorstep cat who has three families. He lives with Claire and Jonathan and their children. Polly, Matt and their children are their neighbours and Franceska and Tomasz and their children are former neighbours. All three families are very good friends with each other, thanks to Alfie. Alfie is the adopted "dad" to a kitten named George.

Sylvie and her teenage daughter, Connie, move in next door to Alfie and he always like to welcome new people to the neighbourhood. He arranges for them to become friends with his families. They have an indoor cat named Hana who is George's age and they want to become friends. Things seem to be going well until Sylvie, recently divorced, overreacts about Connie's friendship with Alesky, one of Franceska and Tomasz's sons.

Harold is an old bitter man living down the street. George has been trying to make friends with him but Harold's not interested ... until he has an accident and Alfie and George come to the rescue.

As the Christmas season approaches, there is a lot happiness but also sadness for Alfie and George.

This is the fifth and latest in Alfie series and I liked it (I've read them all). Though it's part of a series, it works as a stand alone. It is written in first person perspective in Alfie's voice. We can see the conversations he has with other cats. Plus he understands the conversations of humans around him (rather than "blah blah blah blah blah Alfie blah blah blah). Though he can't talk back to them in their language, he does try to communicate in cat-talk and expressions. As a head's up, though the story is about cats, it does have mature themes.

I look forward to reading others in this series.

This is a first for me by this author, but not my last.
I didn't realise this was book five in a series, I'll be looking up the first four as it was most enjoyable.

Life in Edgar Road through the eyes of a feline trio... Alfie, Tiger and George.

Edgar Road is very quiet in the lead up to Christmas... that is until we meet Sylvie, a recently divorced mum, to daughter Connie, who have both moved back to London from Japan. They bring their cat Hannah with them. Can they make their new house a home in time for the festive season?

At the end of Edgar Road a cranky old neighbour twitches his windows and refuses to be drawn into the community spirit. Maybe all he needs is a bit of kindness shown to get him in the mood for the season!

As the snow starts to fall, Alfie and George have their work cut out for them to bring the street together in time for Christmas.

A heart-warming feel-good novel that is perfect for the festive season... with lots of laugh-out-loud moments as well as some tearful ones.

I'm looking forward to more in this series as well as catching up on previous stories.

Thank-You Netgalley for my ARC.
