Advertising executive Kris Worth has carefully arranged his life according to his own specifications. He knows what it is to lose control, and will never let that happen again. But in the year since his best friend found love and moved to the country, he’s begun to notice a shortage of meaningful connections in his relationships.
Auto mechanic Billy Driscoll’s life is in free fall. His involuntary outing and a brutal beating at the hands of his brother have left him no alternative but to accept help in the form of an offer to move from the remote rural hamlet of Dungoon to urban Sydney.
When former roommate Jai asks Kris to take Billy in, the prospect of babysitting a damaged country boy is daunting, but he finds he can’t say no. Each of these men is in for some surprises as he discovers his assumptions about the other may have been wildly inaccurate. They manage to find common ground—steamy sex can work wonders in that regard— but will they be able to move beyond their histories and turn their combustible chemistry into a lasting relationship?
I liked this book waaaaay better than the first one!! It's a really good story, and I liked a lot the characters. Also, the writing style is improved. 😊 Recommend! But I don't think it would work completely as a standalone, I'd recommend to read the first book (even if it isn't as good as this one) 😉
I can't say that I liked this book near as much as the first one. And I have to admit, I did consider giving this a 1-star, but it wasn't quite bad.
The first book was surprisingly enjoyable. The impression that I got from Kris in the first book was that he was going to be the sassy twink of the series. And then this book happened and Kris personality decided not to make an appearance. And Billy didn't have much of one either. Kris didn't develop much beyond the former junkie who once was burned by a bf and now swears of relationships. And Billy didn't go much beyond the country boy who got beat up by his homophobic brother and moved to the big city.... and I feel like the whole getting beat up thing served just as a reason to get him to the city, because I feel like the level of trauma being attacked by a family member and hospitalized was kind of glossed over. Like, the plot went through the motions of Billy gets beat up, Billy leaves town, Billy goes to court and confirms his family are dicks, Billy goes to the city and steps out of the closet, Billy goes back to the country for the trial (which all happens off-page), Billy lives happily ever after.
And the whole book just dragged on. It wasn't until the 40% mark that I felt like things were starting to move, but then I realized that it was just a twitch before settling back down into Boringville again. I ending up skimming a lot of this, including the sex scenes. It just didn't live up the first book at all. I'm hoping that if there is a third book (that I assume will be about Ollie), it will have a little more pep to it.
Definitely enjoyed this more than the first book. We got to spend time with Jai’s best friend Kris and he was just as lovely in this book. I liked the story line and I was glad to see Jai and Luke a lot. Looking forward to Ollie’s story.

City Suit, Country Boy is the second book in the City, Country series by Mia Terry. I really liked this story, a little more then the first one. This book is about City boy Kris, Jai's best friend (first book) and country boy Billy. When Billy ends up in the hospital because his brother beat him up Jai thinks it is a good idea if he goes to the city where he can stay in his apartment with Kris. Things heat up.
🌇 Good and steamy Australian MM romance, but liked the earlier story better😉
👥 🔥🔥 Beauty of a cover!😍 Kris, the Sydney "city suit" in this couple first appeared in the earlier book about Jai and Luke's romance in this Mia Terry series. Kris seems more serious in this story, less the showy, perfect life of the party. But he's more conflicted and complex than I expected, and actually quite a thoughtful, good guy. Billy, his new roommate, is vulnerable, proud in a good way, and struggling with the sudden transformation of his life. I liked both guys and their romance had nice, tender and quiet touches mixed with some very hot 🔥 steam.
For me, some of the story dragged, like the boat excursion: TMI on a day spent with the trappings of the super wealthy. Apart from that, the plot and writing was good. I personally preferred Luke and Jai's story, but this one was enjoyable too. Although this story had an HEA and no cliffhanger I think it is best read after reading Jai and Luke's story; they and their history play an important role in their involvement in this story.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Book 2 in this series and we get Kris’ story, I loved him in book 1 so I was happy to see him get his HEA.
Billy hasn’t had the best of upbringings and he finds himself on the other side of his brother’s first when he finds out he’s gay. He needs to get out of the small town he grew up in and Jai from book 1 helps him move to Sydney to room with his best friend Kris. The hate crime Billy was a victim of was sensitively handled and it felt very true to life, Billy was brave and strong in his dealing with the situation and you can’t help but fall for him.
Kris is a great character I love his confidence and caring nature he really was the best person to help Billy start his new life.
The chemistry between them was off the charts, they make a great couple which could quite happily keep reading about.
The book begins with a bang and continues solidly all the way through. We have Billy recovering from a brutal beating. He is immediately sent to Sydney to recuperate in a safe spot with Jai's best friend, Kris, (whom we were introduced to in the first book) The characters in this book drew me in. I was wondering how a small town boy would be able to survive in the city. The results at times weren't pretty as both men have very sharp edges that grate on each other. But the edges wear down and soon they are finding that they can work together. I thought the writing style was fantastic. Her descriptions of the city, and the club made me feel as though I was there. The heat between Billy and Kris was spicy. If you like opposites attract with a bit of spice., this book is for you.
I think of the four men so far, Billy is my favourite. I quite liked the others, but he stole my heart. He was sweet, in his own way, down to earth, a young man staying true to himself while discovering a new side of life. Kris was perfect for him, the right other side of his coin and they complemented each other quite well. The ups and downs, and the things surrounding them, made for a well rounded story.
Loved this book and the story. I grew up in Sydney, now live in NY, and reading a story set in my hometown was very special to me. Sydney is now so sophisticated, and Newtown a real shock. It was always part of the slums when I grew up. I could NEVER afford to move home now, it is so expensive, so pleased there is another book this author has kindly written for me to read.
I liked this book as much as I liked the first, however it was a bit harder to read due to a recent brutal assault being a main plot point. Sometimes the country boy makes a go of city life story comes across as a bit tired but I found this story fresh and interesting. Billy is a delight as the urban world opens to him and slightly jaded Kris is likeable while he tries not to fall for his roommate. Enjoyable second book!
I really liked this book. Like the first book it has a great flow, interesting settings, good connections. And two wonderful men who are both a bit broken in their own ways but perfectly complement each other. Something about how this author writes the characters just really appeals to me. Very relatable. Enjoyed very much and recommend along with book 1 in this series. Picking up book 3 right away!
I enjoyed Kris and Billy's story as much as I did the first book in the series. While not 100% necessary to read the first book, it will make this one better, plus it is a great read. I appreciate the way the author handles the topic of addiction, and how Billy's abuse at the hands of his family shaped the story but didn't overwhelm it.
A really good follow up to the first book, a really good continuation of the series
I loved reading about these two characters, and seeing them grow and overcome their challenges and issues. It was interesting to see how their relationship began, and to watch it grow and change, and develop.
It was really nice to see and hear about the characters from the first book
OMG! Another great book in this series! I cried for Billy. His family just sucked. I’m so glad he found Kris. They really belong together. Their journey to be together wasn’t easy. I’m also glad we got to see Jai and Luke again. I love series where characters from other books show up. It adds to the story more. Loved it! Highly Recommend!!!
Mia has surpassed her first book! The relationship between Jai and Kris is still going strong...but with the addition of Luke and Billy makes me love them even more!
Definitely an improve from the other book in the series! Not sure I will read next book though. The book is still lacking any meaningful connection between the characters but the romance is improved. Would recommend.
Country boy Billy goes to the city to stay with Jai's (who we met in book 1) ex roommate Kris to get away from a terrible situation at home. This was a fairly predictable but good read. It was fun and sexy but has some serious undertones as well.
I absolutely LOVED this marvelous, sweet, charming, delightful, sexy, poignant, engaging, amazing, endearing, tender, and totally awesome story. I was hooked from beginning to end, and can't wait to see what happens next.
This was a great addition to the series. Loved Billy and Kris together. Glad we still get quite a bit of Jai and Luke in this one too. The storyline was good, and I loved the ending. Looking forward to Ollie's story.
I really enjoyed getting to see the development of Kris and Billy's relationship. To me there was a little angst but not much. This book is part of a series that should be read in order. I would definitely recommend this series!
This was a good second book in the series. I loved seeing how the characters developed throughout the story and how they learned to overcome their fears. It was well written and enjoyable to read
This is not a DNF for now. I almost enjoyed the first book, and since it was the author's first book, I thought that I would read another to see if the author had improved at all. The simplistic writing and editing issues are driving me mad, so I'm walking away for a bit.
