This was a new author to me and when I saw the creepy, haunting cover it seemed to just grab me as I wondered if the book was going to be as scary as the cover made it seem to be. I can tell you this, I was not disappointed! This is one scary ghost story!

Mike Wilson along with his wife, Terri, their daughter, Jen, and son, Chris leave London to move into a house out in the country. Mike has lost his job and needed a place to stay, so his Uncle Rob let Mike and his family stay in a house that he had bought. The house is nestled in the woods with a beautiful lake off to the side.

When Mike's family sees the house, they wonder about if it was the right thing to do with moving in as the house is in much need of repair. Mike doesn't think anything of it, but his wife and kids have other thoughts. Chris says something to Mike about the house seems to be haunted. Mike told Chris that there are no such things as ghosts and that the house was just old.

When the family gets settled in to the house, little things start happening at first with faces in the windows and apparations appearing here and there throughout the house, but Mike and Terri just think that it is their imagination as they don't believe in ghosts. When their daughter Jen becomes fascinated with the woods is where concern starts gnawing within Mike and Terri as they don't think it is safe for Jen to be out in the woods.

When MIke starts hearing rumors about the house in town is when he begins to wonder what kind of place they moved in to and he starts trying to find out the history about the house. What he finds is beyond anything that he can imagine as a great evil has pentrated not only the house, but the woods and lake as well.

What does Mike find out about the house? What kind of evil is lurking on the property? Who is haunting the house? Are the apparations real or is Mike just imagining them? No spoilers here as you will just have to read the book!

This book starts off with a bang in the prologue and doesn't let up till the end. This was a very scary atmospheric haunting and it grabbed me right away with things that were happening to the family. The author just slowly draws you in to the story and wraps the ghostly happenings around you making you experience the same trepidation that the family was experiencing. Fast pace with twists and turns throughout the story!

I would normally give a book like this five stars, but the ending kind of dropped off making you think that there might be a second book in the future as not everything is wrapped up in the end. There are unanswered questions to events that took place within the book, but it is still a great story as the haunting just sticks with you long after you put down the book. I would highly recommend this book as it would be great book to read around Halloween. Giving this one four "spooky" stars.

Mike is moving with his family from London to the countryside as he lost his job. Uncle Rob offered him to stay in an old house he purchased some time ago. But soon strange things start to occur. Jen, his daughter, is lured into the surrounding woods and Mike comes to know that the lake near his house was used as a drowning pool for witches. In the basement he finds some old letters from the first family who lived there and mysteriously disappeared. Detectiv Battle tells him what happend to a family named Maxwell who lived there in the 70s. Gruesome murder took place at the site. There seems to be a demon in the woods causing all those eerie hauntings. Can Mike beat the demon and save his family? The book is very scary and well plotted. A compelling page turner on witches, symbols and posessed persons. Reading it is like watching a quite scary horror movie. At the end you really hope for a follow up to this story. What happened to Jen? I hope the author continues his story. Really recommended. Ideal horror for forthcoming Halloween and colder autumn nights!

The way this ended, there has to be a part 2! What happened to uncle Rob after the line went dead at the end of the book? And what ever happened to Jen?

2.5 stars. It was okay book, liked that they tried to uncover the truths from the past to present and the spookyness of it but didn't quite go up to 3 stars.

Brilliant!

This is an excellent horror story which reminds of 'Old school James Herbert'. Spooky and very atmospheric, this book had me curled up on the couch with all the lights on - in case the ghost got me!! The book is about a family who move into a spooky old house and strange things happen.. What sets this novel apart from the thousands of others with this premise is that it's brilliantly written. Adam J Wright is an incredible writer and I've yet to read one of his books that hasn't enthralled me. Highly recommend this book!! I'd love to see a sequel too.

I've been devouring Haunted House stories in great proliferation for over 6 decades, and let's face it: the trope has been "done to death." (Pun intentional) But: it's still possible to carry it off winningly, imaginatively, and frighteningly. (Examples: Susan Hill's THE WOMAN IN BLACK and Peter James' THE HOUSE ON COLD HILL.) THE HAUNTING OF CROW HOUSE similarly affected me. The author utilizes quite a variety of tropes--certainly more than I expected--and weaves them in expertly. Yes, frightening; and also presenting a variety of empathetic characters.
I found it a champion read all around, and worth re-reading.

I’m not even sure I can finish this book. I hate to be brutal, but this is the worst written book I’ve ever read. How did it even get published? The writing is awful and the editing is worse! So, so many errors that it’s distracting. I’m about halfway through and feel like literally throwing it in the trash.

WOW

This book was really good.....there were some parts where I really wanted to slap the husband and Jen. There were so many warning signs and they either ignored them or waited until it was too late. The Ending was great as well. Looking forward to more from this author.
