When everything begins to go right in your life, when the sun comes out to shine light on brand new beginnings, it may be a good idea pause and remember that not all good things last. Introverted and eidetic Charlie Mason never quite fit in with the in crowd—or any crowd, for that matter; nor did she want to. Being invisible suited her just fine. At age nine, a tragic vehicle accident left Charlie in a coma for over a month and took the life of her brother, the person she admired most. She closed in on herself and blocked out everything from her past, including her best friend. Six years later, her life is about to change whether she wants it to or not. Seventeen-year-old Sean Reese is a legend on the baseball field and one of the most popular guys at Eden High. When Charlie is attacked by three guys in the ball-field parking lot, Sean saves her in more ways than one. He wants to be her friend and will not take no for an answer. Two teenagers form an impenetrable bond and nothing will be able to tear them apart… not even when Charlie begins to remember.
I wasn't disappointed diving into book two. More answered questions were revealed. More secrets were hidden and discovered.
These two will really pull at your heartstrings! It sure had a great mix of emotions. I loved all these characters and how the book played out. How realistic most parts were. It all gave a deeper meaning to the reader.
Side note: I have to admit, you almost lost me at the "authors notes" only because I thought the book had ended there. I was thrilled when it didn't end. This duet was well written and extremely enjoyable. I look forward to Sean's version.
I honestly can’t get enough of Sean and Charlie’s story! This second book goes into depth the background of both characters and also gets down to the nitty gritty of their romance/relationship. As the book title says She really does become Charlie! I caught myself crying several times throughout this book but I loved every minute. This book and the first part push real world issues that some of us may be going through. It is a must read for young adults, their parents, and adults alike.
Some are irreversible. Others can be strengthening. It helps greatly if one has a supportive family and friends. Often though even getting to a point where we accept that help seems impossible. Don't give up on those suffering. Every one saved is worth our efforts and love.
Welcome back to Eden high , its the summer before their senior year . Charlie is about to embark on a summer of work and Sean . When she is thrown for a loop with her new friend Raven and trying to get Sean to fall in love with her . There are memories that come back and secrets that need to come to light . Will they be strong enough to weather the things to come to come back to each other I must say that I am loving Charlie and Sean . Charlie actually really grew up in this book . She becomes a teen ager and does teen ager things . Like party and having fun . But there is a sadness still with her and you still want to wrap her up in a warm blanket and hug her . She really does some growing up in this book . I truly love who she is becoming even when she has a set back she is still lovable . Sean has some set backs and I really kind of wanted to slap him upside the head a few times for being such a jerk . He also does some growing up in this book . You will either love him or really hate him through out this book . Now Raven well she is the resident bad girl but yet you see a sweet girl that wants to be part of something and has so many trust issues that will have you loving her even though she is the devil on Charlie's shoulder a few times . They become such good friends that you will cheer for them also . Ok I am going to say something here I liked the first book but I honestly loved this book . The author took us on such an emotional journey that had me laughing one moment and the had my heart ripping to shreds in another moment . There is a few tough scenes to read that will have you crying your eyes out . We do deal with the after effects of war and PTSD . That will break your heart when you read them . The author does handle the scenes with dignity and a sensitivity that it deserves . This is a book that both adults and teens would love to read , The characters just keep getting better and the story is so believable cause we know we have all been there being in invisible and just wanting to be part of the crowd . High school is always a pain and we all got through it . Family is another big part of this book . The dysfunctional family and the family that you need when the chips fall and all you can do is hold yourself together . So if you want a series that you will love this is the series for you . I can't wait to see if the author writes more books with the rest of the characters . We need to hear Raven's back story . hint hint .
Fantastic Story & Audible Listen! Mesmerizing & Heartfelt!
Becoming Charlie: Part Two By: Kristie Haigwood Narrated by: Melissa Moran Series: Becoming Charlie, Book 2
Amazing sequel and conclusion to “Becoming Charlie”. This book is as beautifully written as the first. Kristie Haigwood’s storylines continue to be realistic and relatable. I adored Charlie and Sean in the first book, they are not perfect but they are perfectly themselves, trying to find their way. In this book we learn more about Charlie and Sean, their past, secrets are revealed, secrets that may threaten their relationship. These two were great together and for each other, I could not help but root for them and hope all worked out for them. I really liked Raven and her friendship with Charlie, also liked the back and forth banter she had with Sean, the name calling and references were hilarious. I highly recommend “Becoming Charlie” parts 1 & 2, they are one of the best YA novels I have had the pleasure to enjoy. There is never a dull moment and they have all the feels, you can tell how much heart the author put into her story. Kristie Haigwood thank you for another awesome story and the emotional rollercoaster ride. I loved your “message from the author” great way to open eyes and bring awareness. I am looking forward to Sean’s book and POV, he has a brilliant mind. Would love to see Raven get her own book too.
I listened to Audible edition, narrated by the mega talented Melissa Moran. She continues to bring these characters and their stories to life from the pages to your ears. She performs the voices of all the characters, gives each their own distinct voice and personality. She projects the emotions of the characters and the drama of the story into her performance. She is always a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧
The trials and tribulations of a new relationship. Book 2 began where book 1 ended with them still friends.
Overall: I didn’t agree with Charlie’s thought process. I loved the unexpected twist from the past. Shocked does even begin to explain my reaction to the news. I felt letdown after the big secret reveal. I expected something monumental to happen instead it felt anticlimactic. I expected a different outcome about the past secret, but it seemed to be brushed under the rug too easily. I thought there was an interesting story that was not tapped into. I agree with the way the news was disclosed and I agree with Charlie’s reaction. I’m disappointed with Sean’s need for Charlie to soothe his anger issues. That’s too much responsibility for an individual to have to calm another. Better methods need to be implemented because it’s not healthy.
Normally I purchase the ebook with the audiobook to follow along. However, I was gifted this audiobook so I chose to listen and not follow along. Certain aspects about the dialogue don’t translate well into audiobook when no prompt is given indicating when Charlie was referring to the past.
I’m not particularly fond of this push n pull type of relationship. It’s exhausting and it’s stressful with too many hardships so early in the relationship.
Narrator: Melissa Moran was the solo performer. Her performance was really good considering she had to perform both male and female characters. I was able to distinguish the male character from the female. The sound quality was excellent. Her performance enhanced the story.
We leave off where part one ends, and I did enjoy the storyline to an extent. I still just worry about the relationship that these two characters have. I mean, honestly, it just does not seem truly healthy. Now, before I get bashed, I know it is just a story. I disagreed with Charlie's thought process throughout our story. I also did not believe how much responsibility Charlie had to calm Sean's anger down. I just wonder what would happen in the future between the two if something tragic was to happen. Or if Charlie could not calm down Sean. That is very worrisome. That is a lot for a young teenager. I did feel like Sean was way overprotective, I understood why he was that way, but it made me feel very uncomfortable as well. I was amazed that the author did such a decent job with Charlie's father's issues. She brought to light something that all soldiers deal with in their life. The ending is not something you expect, and I will say she does a great job with that. A lot goes on in part two, and we see Charlie grow and become who she needs to be; we also see a bit of heartache that happens. I do believe we see a lot of growth in our Charlie girl. I love how she is always there for those she cares for, and honestly, that is refreshing to also see that her friends are there for her.
I am going to regret reading past 4 a.m. With two little ones in the house. Good thing I have my own version of Sean sleeping next to me. Sean and Charlie captured my heart immediately, I used to think he came on too strong and I feared for Charlie's mental health esp putting myself in Victoria's shoes as a mom. Boy was I wrong should have known after reading all of K.S Haigwood that she would spin the story in a totally different way than I expected. Never predict an ending of any of her stories. You will be wrong! Strong character development, solid plot, emotional rollercoaster, relatable scenes and real life situations. Another solid 5 stars from me.
I listened to this book and the narrator Melissa Moran is the best to listen to. She is so smooth it makes it a great pleasure to listen to.
The book is amazing. It is a second chances book kinda. But it reminds you of your first love and through high school and a gut wrenching family emergency and how love prevails if it is strong enough.
There was not a boring moment in this book and I couldn’t wait to listen daily even for little breaks. Kristie Haigwood fabulous job.
This was a very powerful love story. Totally didn’t go the way you expect it to go.
This is the epitome of a love story. Charlie and Sean have to overcome so many odds to be together at all let alone for a lifetime.
** ****SPOILER*****
Also I really REALLY like how even though these two have been officially together since 16 and 17 the author waited quite awhile in their world for them to have kids. They got through college and started their careers first.
After reading part 1 i couldnt wait to start this book! I am very happy to say that it did not disappoint in its delivery. With high emotions running wild it will make you cry, laugh and feel the depth of love in ways that you would never expect. Charlie is so amazing and i loved going with her on this journey!!!
I really LOVED Charlie - Part 2 ... this book took you through a life of two teenagers. You follow the trial and tribulations. There are so many parts to the book that I loved...Charlie and Sean goes thru a lot be together
A wonderful ending to this sweet soulmate romance. I really enjoyed the characters and everything they overcame to be with each other. The story dealt with betrayal, romance, mistakes and most of all the power of forgiveness and love.
I really wish I could give this book 10 stars!!!! Sean is my book soul mate!!!!! Charlie and Sean are absolutely perfect!!!! Your crazy if you don’t read these books!!!!!!!!!!
This is a great story, there is so much going on it’s hard to know where to start. The characters are complex, interesting, and believable. I enjoyed following along on their journey.
