Dark Days #2

Dark Days: Semester 2

Rate this book
A vampire desperate for a brighter future. A wolf shifter eager to forget the past.

A killer closing in.

Still reeling from the events of December 31st, wolf shifter Emma Kingsley stumbles into the new year knowing that nothing will ever be the same. Her sanctuary--her territory--is falling to pieces around her. Danger in the forest. Danger in the village. Danger at her door.

This time of year, wolf's in season.

The cruel promises of two rogue vampires cling to her like a second skin, but so does the possibility for something more with the vampire who saved her life. Despite her growing feelings, she knows in her heart that Calder is a part of this madness.

And when the truth comes to light, will she ever be able to trust him again?

Forced to unite for the sake of their beloved boarding school, two former enemies are torn between doing what is necessary...

And following their hearts.

The fresh start that vampire Calder so desperately craved is shot straight to Hell when the past comes back to bite him. Had circumstances been different, he would have fallen back on old habits--and run.

But now that Emma is involved, he knows the game has changed. A price must be paid, and if it keeps her alive, Calder Holloway will pay it a thousand times over.

Even if that means forgetting his feelings for the beautiful shifter. Every. Last. One.

Because those messy, messy feelings are what got him into trouble in the first place.

In the dark days of winter, an ancient evil emerges from the shadows. Blood will be spilled. Lines will be drawn. Lives will be lost.

Only one thing is certain: no one is safe.

Not even creatures of the night.

Dark Days is a standalone enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance duet. While Book 1 has a cliffhanger, all will be resolved with a supernatural happily-ever-after in Book 2.

I really enjoyed this.

This was book two of two, definitely for 18 and up. This book was great, there were some surprises, that I wasn’t expecting. Throughout the books the love between Calder and Emma was always prominent. They risked all for each other, ended up in some sticky situations for sure lol. I really liked their story. I think the only things I wish I knew, would be what happened with Emma’s relationship with her family, did her and Calder have kids and get married? Excellent read.

4 - ...Bound in blood... Stars!

The second semester in the Dark Days duet is as gripping as it is gruesome, we return to Norway with the New Year in the forefront, and the events of New Year’s Eve, still reverberating through Emma and Calder’s minds.

Danger in the forest…
Danger in the village.
…Danger at her door.

Book one of this duology really was just a scene setter for its follow-up, you hit the ground running with this one and the pressure doesn’t really ease up until the latter stages. Take note of the warning that the author posts at the beginning of the book because the first few chapters are a little upsetting, but also relevant because they give Emma the Motivation to step up, grow up and become the alpha of her own little pack.

This woman, this shifter… was a fucking warrior.

Not a huge amount else I can say about the plot as I don’t really want to give anything away but Liz delivers in the inimitable Meldon style, and I as usual, was glad to be along for the ride.

"I choose this… I choose you."

Another entertaining, challenging and unique story from this author, with plenty of scope to offer up more from it in the future.

This is possibly one of the best paranormal books to exist. There is no doubt Dark Days has ruined me for other paranormal romances. I will forever be comparing characters to Emma and Calder. I was glued to the pages until the very end. I was eager yet dreading the ending of this. Eager to see what happens. Eager for Calder and Emma’s HEA and dreading that this duet has come to an end.

Emma and Calder had an intense hatred going on in book one. There was definitely no love there but they were forming an attachment towards each other. Their hate sex was unbelievably steamy and this book did not disappoint in that regard either but it’s no longer hate sex. That did not make the sex any less hot. Calder was a savage beast. He is dealing with all these new feelings that make his undead heart beat.

Calder has to face his past which comes to light in the form of the two vampire that surfaced in the end of book one. They bring danger and destruction to his carefully built new life and they are a threat to Emma. She did not initially want to trust Calder because of them being sworn enemies but he did save her life even though they stopped having sex. She started caring about this cold hearted vampire but when she finds out about his gruesome past, she is left in quite a dilemma. Emma is no longer safe and although she is a badass and can protect herself, Calder takes it upon himself to protect her because he brought the danger to her doorstep.

This book was executed perfectly. Emma and Calder were one of the most passionate, resilient and badass characters I have come across. I did not just enjoy this book, I freaking loved it!!! I am hungry for more of their romance. Can you please do something about that Liz. Appease my appetite

IT'S LIIIIIIVE! The final chapter in Calder and Emma's DARK DAYS duet is available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. Thank you so much for all your love and support for this enemies to lovers paranormal romance duet. It was honestly my first time writing such a sexy, combative relationship from the get-go, and I had a blast doing it. You'll definitely be seeing more enemies to lovers in the future from me!

5/5- HOLY PLOT TWIST BATMAN!!!! So freakin good!

YES! I want more in this world... vampires and shifters and witches, oh my!

You must read book one first. These are not standalone books.
__________

I don’t know how to review this book honestly. It’s so good and so much happens that spoilers would be everywhere. I love this world and these characters.
__________

This book picks up right at the epic cliffhanger of book one. I feel like from the first word it’s go time. Pedal to the metal, strap in, hang on and shut up. The beginning isn’t fun in the least. Tragedy hits Emma (this is also the trigger warning about animal cruelty, what happens is off page but we see the results from both Emma and Calder’s POV), and this is the catalyst for the back half of the duology: the threat against Emma.

We learn about Calder’s past and his sins that effect Emma’s race. There’s angst but they work through it and come out better for the trial. I have to say I really hate angsty reads it’s not my trope at all BUT Liz writes it the right way. With tension and emotion not just anger and hate. And her heroines are strong and smart and snarky. Independent but can ask for help when the situation calls for assistance.

Emma is one of the best heroines I’ve read. She doesn’t take shit from anyone; but she hilarious and relatable. I would want to be Emma if I could.

Emma and Calder are crazy perfect together. These two are such a great couple. She really is not impressed with his prissy ways and he is just offended by her ultra chill attitude.

* The fossegrim and nokken are super cool characters and are important in the best way.

* Plot FREAKIN twist!

* Calder and Sampson, so good

* The best HEA, Liz Meldon is a queen

FYI:

Oral, manual, penetrative sex.
Amazing smut, it’s good.

What an absolutely thrilling conclusion to my favourite duet of all time!!!
Calder and Emma will forever hold the bar for what couples need to be, paranormal or otherwise! I don't want to give anything away but I will tell you that there is drama and intrigue that will keep you on the edge of your seat for hours as well as some very sexy times!!!
I loved how things played out between these two from their arguing to realising their true feelings for each other. I legit could read at least another two books about these two just because the chemistry and love between them is just amazing!
This is my honest and unbiased review.

There is just so much I want to say about this book but can't because I don't want to give anything away!!!

Dark Days: Semester 2 by Liz Meldon is just amazing. The first book was the setup and this second book in the duet is the be all to end all!! Holy smokes, from start to finish there is non-stop action, drama, peace, love and soooo much more than repeat!!!

When you read the caption of the story, how could you go wrong!! If you like paranormal, you are going to love this duet. You need to read book one to completely get the whole feel of feels for this installment.

A vampire named Calder who just wants some peace in his life. A wolf shifter named Emma who is looking to explore all the world has to offer away from her pack. Put them together and sparks will fly! Limits are tested, blood will be shed and the plot twist of all plot twists will blow your mind.

One thing I love about this duet is the character growth from the first book to this book. Ms. Meldon has done a remarkable job at giving us that slow build that just pulls this story together for me. To see them grow as individuals and together is remarkable. The secondary characters and the little details here and there that stand out are just brilliant.

Not to mention the steamy romantic parts. When those happen, you’ll be wanting to fan your face that just turned red. Then you’ll want to swoon. Powerful words are written that give you all the feels.

As a general rule, I have a lot of love for Meldon's characters because they're so bloody realistic and relatable, but Calder and Emma? They're my faves. Not just from Meldon's books either-from ALL the books. They're special and beautifully imperfect and I love the hell out of them.

I so wish there was a third book, but since it's a duology that's not to be. I'm totally open to spin-offs, though. Gimme all the Calder and Emma <3

So, yes, this is a recommendation. If you like a bit/a lot of smut with your dark paranormal romances, then this is 100% for you.

Emma and Calder face a lot of danger in this second part of the story.

They are closer together than ever but it is not happily ever after for them as the story opens. They face danger from surprising sources.

I really liked seeing them able to acknowledge their real feelings for each other. They both open up more about their fears and the pain they face. They come a long way in their thinking about themselves and each other.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

The quick and dirty: Shifter-trafficking ex associates, truth bombs, angst, emotional epiphanies, hot sex, epic battles... and a plot twist that hit me so hard I think its handprint may still be on my face.
🤯🤯🤯

Liz knocked it our of the park with this one! The world-building was excellent. Liz's vivid prose gave me a clear mental picture of the landscape, characters and scenes. The character development was phenomenal as well. There was so much growth, and I could truly appreciate Calder and Emma's complexities. Both so strong and yet vulnerable and flawed at the same time. Lovely. As for the story arc, I knew the general direction it was heading in so when Liz threw in some big drama, I assumed it was the climax and the story was headed toward the finish line... then when all seemed quiet... 💥💥💥 Surprise! Plot twist bitches! 🤯🤩🖤

It's the PNR with the hot broody vampire and kick-ass werewolf you've been waiting for. Go get some!

Picking up right where Semester One left off, Liz Meldon has done it again, keeping me thoroughly captivated on this continued journey of Calder and Emma, as they fight against what feels right versus what ought to be the right thing to do.
It’s the start of a new year, yet the first of January hasn’t brought many happy fuzzy feelings to Calder and Emma. Instead, it has led to some home truths being shared, and some deep examinations of personal feelings and their level of importance. Calder feels the need to serve penance. Emma doesn’t want to feel, even as her wolf continues to experience things in black and white, knowing what she wants; her human side, however, can’t make up its mind. The journey twists and turns, adorable scenes, hot and sexy scenes, emotional scenes, and so much more make up the enthralling journey of two unlikely yet seemingly perfect mates. Or are they? The past has a knack of showing up when least expected or desired. Familial bonds, the power of blood, can lead to ecstasy and heartache. And just when everything seemed right, Liz throws in a twist of epic proportions that had me sitting up from my usual slouched comfy reading position, muttering ‘oh no she didn’t’ as I clicked through my pages faster and faster, desperate to find out what happens next. And can I just reiterate adorable scenes? One word: waltzing. So endearing!
I knew I was going to enjoy this, but hadn’t quite grasped how much I needed this to pan out exactly as Liz masterfully crafted it! I, for one, already cannot wait to embark on this journey again from the start, falling in love with Emma’s snark and fierce attitude, falling in love with Calder’s need for order, slight sarcastic tone, and struggle to be the best vampire he can actually be. From waltzing to knitting to long walks in forests decorated with freshly fallen snow, to fights, to declarations, to facing fears and taking charge of their lives, this second part of the Dark Days duet has it all! I promise, you won’t regret setting off on this journey with Calder and Emma!

OMG, that was something else!! I just have to say, this is the perfect end of this story (you get my meaning? If Liz can give us more of them I want to know more!!)

So full disclosure here... I didn't like how the book started because we are left with a HUGE cliffhanger and then it's just like... oh! yeah, they left... not cool at all. In this semester we get Calder's full backstory and let me tell you it was something, I guess you can kind of have an idea of what it is but at the same time, it's more than that. Emma faces some big decisions regarding Calder, can she really trust him at all? Can she really trust in herself and choices? Danger awaits for them at every corner and they only have each other.

THANK YOU LIZ! I want to pretend you read my last review and you totally upped the heat! That was smoking!! Their chemistry is something else completely and Calder?... Damn! I want him to be real so badly he is a through and through alfa man who doesn't bow for anyone or anything, but for Emma? He kept me swooning time and time again. I loved how their relationship develops and how they got to explore their feelings for each other.

I was truly amazed for the plot, you get how Calder never know what to expect of Emma because she is unpredictable? Well, half of the things that happened were completely out of my scoop, I was so not expecting that. Before I started reading the book I cheated and read some reviews (I'm *was* in a book funk so I was trying to get inspired) and I saw they were talking about a plot twist which honestly I found hard to believe but... let me tell you, that was something else.

If you liked Semester 1, you're going to LOVE this second part

Thank you for an amazing story Liz!!

To be the Alpha shifter is an amazing thing, to be Alpha to a pack of dogs is another, but to have them ripped away is heartbreaking. To be hunted is another.

Emma Kingsley came to SIA to teach, to have a new beginning, to do what she does best. But all that is threatened when the hunter becomes the prey, by the most Vial type of being a modern day Vampire pirate.

Calder Holloway is out to make penance for his past, to protect the one he has fallen in love with, knowing she may never love him back when she learns the truth. He is willing to risk it all for her, to make up for his wrong doings and hopefully find his saving grace again.

When people go missing especially shifters, Calder and Emma are in for the fight of their life to bring down those who are responsible, to bring light to what has been hidden for a long time and to end it once and for all.

Dark Days Semester 2 by Liz Meldon is not only a paranormal romance but also about making up for your past and finding the grace and peace you have been searching for in the chaos of the day. A very well written book with wonderful characters that are fighting for not only their lives but the lives of others.

This is the second book of the Dark Days duet and the story picks up where Semester One left off. Threats against Emma from two rogue vampires unleash a series of brutal acts – all with the intent to throw Calder off the trail of what is really happening in his backyard. While the mystery surrounding the missing villagers is revealed, both Emma and Calder find themselves in a fight for survival as his past returns with a vengeance. Can Calder possibly be connected to all this current insanity? And if so, what impact might that have on his blossoming relationship with Emma? This is a well written story with a dark and gritty vibe featuring engaging characters and plenty of danger, suspense, supernatural action and a surprising twist I hadn’t seen coming. There are also several very steamy encounters courtesy of one sexy vampire and one feisty wolf shifter. Readers should take note that there are scenes of graphic violence, including animal cruelty that may be unsettling for some.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

OMG I was wondering how Liz Meldon was going to top her first book but she did it this book is freaking awsome. It's dark and some of the stuff in it is really awful and hard to read im a animal lover so it was just difficult but beside that i enjoyed this book i couldn't put it down Emma and Calder are perfect please write more about them and there dark world.

Emma thinks she's escaped one danger with Calder's help only to find it's left its awful calling card at the Academy she teaches at and it wont stop till she's captured and Calder pays for his betrayal too his former boss. And when Calder confess everything to Emma about his past she's not happy she's pissed.

Calder has run out of options hes going to have and face his past Emma wont let him run from it. He's luck she even gets over the things he did now he will have and fight his past if he and Emma are going to be free from it.

There's lots of blood and gore and danger and a twist that i didn't see coming. I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I finished this book late into the night, I couldn’t put it down. The need to know what was going to happen next was driving crazy. I was on the edge of my seat at times just waiting for something to happen I was so nervous!

The story begins where book one left off. It’s so well written I was immediately drawn in and found myself lost in the halls among their campus. I love this series, in fact, I'm infatuated with the couple and they're so in love even though it's forbidden. The chemistry between Calder and Emma crackled with electricity. I felt myself wanting to protect them from the inevitable boot drop, but it came nonetheless. I felt myself holding my breath until the very last page.

This is a book I would read over & over again.

This book picks up right where the first one left off so another words you need to read the first one before even attempting to start this one. Emma and Calder get thrown in the deep end right from the start. They are surrounded by danger and closer than ever. Stuff from Calder’s past make an appearance in the present will Calder be able connect it to the threats against Emma? Their chemistry in this book is just as electrifying as the previous one, maybe even more so. This book is so suspenseful it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time flipping the pages because I needed to see how it ended. And holy plot twist Batman- I so did not see that coming!! If you’re looking for gritty, suspenseful with a paranormal twist read this book is for you!!

The pulse-pounding conclusion to Emma and Calder's story will have you on the edge of your seat! There is a ton of angst, but also the deepening of Emma and Calder's feelings for one another. I loved seeing new sides to them, and how they interacted with one another. We got to see Emma's wolf, and she was magnificent!! All the backstory on Calder I wanted was in this book, too.
At a couple points when everything seemed great, I knew there was more drama coming. I had to keep reminding myself that it would end well!

I WANT MORE of Calder and Emma. Please please please write that novella, Liz! There doesn't even have to be any drama (in fact I would prefer it that way). I'd love to just see them traveling around together, enjoying one another with no danger lurking. Although if you were to write another full book about them, I wouldn't be opposed to that, either!! I just love this couple so much; they're perfect for one another.

In Semester 1 we fell in love with Calder and Emma. In Semester 2 they have us on the edge of our seat, holding our breath as they face danger from every side. Whether they're fighting a mutual enemy or creating sparks in the bedroom, this vampire and wolf shifter are perfect together, and just when we think the dust has settled, the author hits us with a whopper twist I certainly didn't see coming. Liz Meldon sets the bar high for paranormal romance with this wonderfully written, thrilling read. It's a great combination of dark and gritty, romantic and sexy, and everything in between, including some lighter moments and witty dialogue. The Dark Days world is thoroughly entertaining and unlike any I've found in the genre, and I hope to see more of it in the future.

ONE INTENSE EXPERIENCE!!!
OMG! Man, talk about fast and furious. Man, Liz isn't messing around with this little dynamo. A whirlwind of emotions and events that feed from the excitement and nerve racking tension that brings this bad boy roaring to life brilliantly. All twists and turns, ups and downs, along with a few glitches and bumps here and there pull you deeper into this raging storyline and hard hitting plot. Throw in all the drama, intrigue, uncertainty, fear, danger and suspense and you have one intense, page turning bombshell that grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. The characters are complex and so believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are so vivid and detailed it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. You have no trouble picturing every scenario as it plays out perfectly. Liz definitely nailed this bad boy 100% on point. Remarkable job Liz, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Holy mother of monsters I CAN'T!!

With danger surrounding them from everywhere, Calder and Emma are in more danger than ever. The past is hurling back to ruin everything they've ever known. Can two sworn enemies unite together to defeat evil? Or is their world fated to be doomed?

This was probably one of THE MOST EPIC conclusions to any story. I was legit on the edge of my seat for the entire story and I don't think I was even breathing throughout it.

Calder and Emma and actually genuinely 100% made for each other. Their chemistry is what made this story a knockout. I love those two separately and together. TOO MUCH!

I kinda want to scream about this book everywhere and actually shake people to read it. Everything about this story was unique, thrilling and downright exciting. I keep wanting more and more because Liz Meldon is THAT good.

Right where we left off. Or almost. If New Eve was a nightmare, then what’s coming next is hell. Emma might be strong, she might even impress Calder, but her heart is going to be broken again and again in this 2nd book. Yet she acknowledges her needs and duty. And I think that is why I loved her complete character.
The same carefulness was given when crafting Calder with words. Description, actions, dialogues all in services of the story and giving life to their actors.
Liz Meldon leaves no question in suspense apart from ones that even the characters might never resolve. The plot is nicely wrapped and laced with the steamy relationship that binds the main protagonists.
So for better and worst: let dark days mark the turn.

I absolutely loved this book. The relationship between Emma and Calder grows, we get to see more of the fossegrim from the first book (who I looooved--crossing my fingers for his own story!), and all my questions from the previous book are answered. I'm beyond happy with this story. *happy sigh*

Vampire Calder Holloway might just be falling in love with the beautiful wolf shifter Emma Kingsley. Too bad this newfound love will remain unrequited Calder tells Emma about his past ... or will Emma surprise Calder? Calder learns that he can't outrun his past when his ex-associates show up in Solskinn. When Emma's life is threatened Calder wants to pack up and run away with Emma but Emma's got other ideas. Are Emma and Calder going to regret not running when they had the chance?

Dark Days is a angsty, action-packed and steamy story full of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Dark Days Semester 2 was a good follow up to the first book.  We continue on with Emma and Calder, having to keep their boarding school safe from new supernatural threats which test the relationship they currently have.  This book opens up a whole new world of mythical creatures I never heard of or entertained ideas of before.  Great conclusion.
