Stallion Mage was a very enjoyable read. I mean it hits all the right notes from start to finish. It was also incredibly sexually awkward. The story is fairly straightforward, but written in such a way that it evokes emotion and draws the reader in. It blends fantasy and has a very minimal amount of historical flare. It’s often easier to think of this as a completely fantastical story, even though the author suggests it had a prehistoric setting. It is hard not to feel for Alvarr, who struggles with being different and feeling isolated even when surrounded by his own kind. He’s really the only full-formed character, though I feel that may change with further additions to the series. But for now Laren, his lover and most of the other stallions feel a bit blank and it’s hard to really connect with any of them. The mpreg doesn’t really show up here, but you can see the inference of it for the future.

Not sure what to do with this. First if all .. it is a trilogy. I think that little bit of information us very important for this book regarding expectations.
Second, I expected something more fantasy and less stone age but that is my fault.
The story could have been nice but it was exhausting.
It is told from Alvarrs POV ... But he is often called the mage ... which rubbed me wrong
And we don't get to see a lot of Learan, his love interest. Who, till now is not a very nice person nor a good leader... at least in my opinion.
All in all I am not sure where I will go with this. On one hand I would like to know how the story develops. In the other hand I am not sure if I want to invest the time reading it.

This was a strange little hallucinogenic story about horse shifters that I was definitely not expecting.I'm still uncertain how to take it but since it introduced me to an entirely different kind of experience I want to read the next offering.

Stallion Mage: Secret Omega

Because of the fear the other stallions have for him no one wishes to befriend him. Even his leader, Laren, has no use for him except when he wishes to berate him and it continues even after the time of the mating when Laren mounts Alvarr. The elders have only recently begun interacting with him after he saves a few of the stallions lives.
This was a very intriguing book. I couldn’t put it down and had to read it to the end. Now I'm already itching to read the second of the three books. The story so far is clearly in a world that has been thought out by the author, they just don't quite share it all with us in this first book. It's more an explanation and show and tell of what Alvarr does with his mage powers and a background of how things are in their world between the stallions and mares. It does end on somewhat of a cliffhanger, but it more like ends on what path Alvarr decides to take with his life.
There is one very cool twist and I can't wait to see what it means in the future books. I have a feeling we only see a glimpse of it's full power here.

What in tarnation-
I can feel my soul leaving my body because I just read gay horse porn and liked it. Okay so there were like only a couple of scenes but still. The world building is also nothing to sneeze at because it's got me INTENSELY curious about what happens next but what in the -heck-
Ok tbh this book is more like 4.5 stars but just because I wasn't truly ready even though it clearly stated 'dead dove, do not eat' I'm just giving it the full amount because this was BOLD

This was a highly original shifter story that really took me by surprise. One of the more unusual things about it is that the shifters main form is actually that of their animal self with the characters only occasionally shifting into their human form.
We follow the story from Alvarr’s point of view, who is a bit of a misfit in the stallion shifter tribe he lives with. He’s very inquisitive and has a gentle, loving heart, but physically he seems to be lacking as he is far smaller and more delicate than all the other stallions. This underdog makes for an unlikely hero, though what he lacks in stature he will make up for in courage.
I really enjoyed Alvarr’s conversations with the Elders as well as all the scenes to do with Nature’s magic and how that affects Alvarr and those around him. Laren, the leader of the tribe, is a bit of a (conflicted) enigma still. The well-being of his tribe is clearly very important to him, but he’s at a loss to figure out how Alvarr is supposed to fit into it.
I love that the story is set in a Stone Age like world, which really helped to create a mood of wonderment and magical possibilities in a civilization that is steeped in superstition and which has lost a lot of its own history. This universe is so far removed from our daily reality that the author has a lot of leeway for his world-building, hinting at an intriguing mythology though not unlocking all its secrets yet. This is only book 1, of course, and it appears the best is yet to come which is very promising. I can’t wait to see how the story will unfold further.
There were a few small editing mistakes here and there or an unlucky word-choice that didn’t quite fit the stone age atmosphere, but nothing too irksome.

Very good premise and I liked the stone-age world building. In this universe all the people are equine shifters and can easily go from one shape to the other. We start learning about the stallion tribe dynamic but don't really know why the females are gone.
Poor Alvarr knows that he is different and the changes keep coming. I don't really like Laren in this installment...and the romance is lacking.

Um. That was weird. And not a lot of answers....and I don't know if I care to read on to find out the answers. I feel like Laren and Alvarr are a terrible couple though and are just abusive and creepy.

I've read many, many shifter stories but this was the first one that had horses. One of the things that I liked most about this story is that the shifters/characters spend more of their time in horse form rather than as humans. Another fun aspect is that it takes place in the Stone Age. This gave the book a unique perspective and the author did a great job at assuming those roles.
I was able to connect with the MC's right away and I think you are going to love them just as much as I do!
I've also become very fond of short serials and this being the first in a trilogy fit that bill perfectly. The author is in your face unapologetic about creating a fantasy world that is different, sometimes dark and a little scary and not afraid to tell their story the way they want it told. I found the world building easy to follow and I admit, I'm intrigued. I can't wait for the next installment.
This is an author that you'll want to keep your eyes on!

What a surprise!
I’ve never read a horse/stallion shifter story.. not from lack of wanting but mostly because everyone is stuck on wolves.
It turns out, horse shifters are awesome! I really liked that the characters are mostly in their stallion form in this story, their mannerisms are spot on and I’m sure the author did some research on horses.
So, there is shifted sex in this. Sooo.. in depth description of horse cocks and what they do with them. 😄
This story was actually super unique and I was impressed. It didn’t feel like every other shifter story I’ve read. There is “nature magic” and it’s a big part of the story. In the past mares have been able to wield earth magic, but never a stallion. That is, until Alvarr. He’s quite interesting and unique in this world, our Alvarr.
Supposedly this is an MPREG story. I saw hints and a bit of build up for it in this story, but there was no mpreg, so I assume next book is where we’ll get it.
I really only had one main issue. I was expecting there to be a little bit of relationship growth for Alvarr and another stallion. I was also looking to at least get the “mpreg reveal shocks/gasps”. The way it ends doesn’t really leave you satisfied with Alvarr’s relationships, it doesn’t feel like there has been much progress in that realm.
Is there a second book out? I dunno, I’m gonna go look after I am done writing this, but I can assure you, if there IS a second book out, I’ll be reading it immediately.
This is a rare find in the Gay Shifter Mpreg (wow that’s a really narrow genre...) genre. Very unique, well written (with slight editing errors) and very imaginative.

Wow a very enjoyable story
I am definitely looking forward to the next addition to the series I found the storytelling very compelling, I was disappointed when the book came a an end.

I'm not sure where to start with this one! I loved the idea of the book and from the blurb it sounded really good. But. I closed the book feeling kinda confused but I'm not sure what I'm confused about. I know clear as mud. I'm going to talk about some of the things that stick out in my mind. ***MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS AHEAD. PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!***
I think the plot is weird so maybe that is where my feeling of confusion is coming from. Also, I don't really like either main character. Laren is a childish little snot and shouldn't be leading a Easter egg hunt let alone a tribe. Alvarr's round and round inner dialogue gave me a headache. Bless his heart, he is a little slow on the uptake
Props to the author though, I WILL be on the lookout for book 2.

This is truly a different read from most shifter books but to be honest I found that I enjoyed this read. Though the main characters spend most of their time in the shifter form instead of their human form, I found myself reading this book and forgetting that point for the most part. That is truly incredible in its own that AO Spade was able to write this book in that way and make me forget at that same time. This really was a good read. I could not honestly say if I believe this to be a Stone Age read or more of a future read where things have taken a turn for the worst for the world around this tribe. I honestly like that about this book as well. AO Spade really did do a good job on this and I cannot honestly wait for the final two books in this series to come out. I am really curious as to how everything is going to play out in the end.

My Thoughts on Secret Omega
The first book is a little on the dry and boring side because there is a lot of exposition and not enough dialogue. The exposition does pay off in the later books but does no service to the first. There are times where I skipped pages just to know when the next dialogue would come in and there were a lot of pages in between. We are terribly confined to Alvarr's mind but the first book is instrumental in laying down the foundations for the characters and the story. It is a necessary evil and was the least interesting but it still engages you and when the story picks up towards the end you are completely aware of the world you are in.
Additional notes on Book 1, Secret Omega
1. Alvarr is not an omega atleast that is not how this society of horse shifters works, so that is a bit of a misnomer. Also, I'm pretty sure Alvarr is a unicorn.
2. The fact that the shifters talk in their horse form reminded me too much of Gulliver's Travels and the Houyhnhnms (yes, I had to look that one up, I definitely couldn't have remembered that name with a gun to my head).
3. This has to be one of the only books in which the MCs only had sex in their shifted form, the fact that they were having sex in their shifted form was unique as it was but the fact that they didn't have sex while in their human form was even more so. Their is also sexual activity while both MCs are in dissimilar forms so just a heads up. Personally, I find it interesting because I always had this doubt that why wouldn't shifters have sex in their aminal forms which then lead to the realisation that wouldn't they be attracted to their mate in either form which lead to some interesting segues which I was a little wary of. But, now that I have read it, It doesn't seem weird at all. Just because they look like animals doesn't mean that they are not still sentient beings. In fact, I would have totally missed the scene in this one if I hadn't gone back to confirm their forms.

I felt like it ended in a cliffhanger but it didn't really. Looking forward to the next book which I hope is out soon because I know I will start forgetting characters and details. I would not put this under mpreg as of yet tho because if the author didn't tell us at the end of the book or if we didn't see it in the title as "Stallion Mage: Secret Omega: Mpreg Romance" readers probably wouldn't think it was mpreg. Alvarr holding his hand towards his stomach after having sex three times with Laren can mean anything. Alvarr knows nothing about his linage really considering he is a Stallion and mage whereas usually it is only females who are mage and he knows nothing about the person who provided his seed to create him.

I read it on Wattpad a while ago ... for free. What am I supposed to say? I liked the originality of the story. I got to read books with lion, wolf, snake, dragon, cat, mouse, tiger, fish ... shifters, .. reading a horse shifter "tale" was a new challenge that didn't frighten me. I felt ill at ease when I read the book on Wattpad, I don't know why - it was maybe due to the narrative tone - but I didn't feel emotionally involved with the story, it was a cold, repulsive experience... but I read it because it was a new "treat" and wanted to have a bite of it.
I don't remember anymore if I read the whole stuff or gave up before the ending but I remember very well having read the part with the dude giving birth to his "daughter", it was an awkward situation for me because it sounded way too unrealistic. This is the problem with fantasy.. it's like drugs, if you exceed the recommended dose, you fly high... too high.

2 ** stars because it was an unsusal read. I won't read the "sequels" though. As I said it above, I read the book on Wattpad and the story was gathered in one single book... too bad that here it's divided... for profit, obviously.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review though Don’t Buy my love Goodreads MM romance group.
I really enjoyed this story. I’ve never read anything about horse shifters before but I was suppressed by how much I liked it. That and I love mpreg! Although there really isn’t and mpreg in this story. I have down graded it a star because it’s only a partial story. Don’t get me wrong I’m really looking forward to reading the next bit and it’s not really a cliffhanger, but it doesn’t finish.
I liked how strong Alvarr is in many ways but I wish he was able to stand up for himself more, hopefully that comes in the coming books(2 more to complete it). At the end of this book I’m also really not impressed with the other MC, Laren, but I have a feeling that’s all just going to be part of his character growth with the following books.
If you like mpreg and a large plot, and don’t mind the story being told over several books, I would recommend this one.

Exactly what I wanted,

But in all seriousness, there is really good character development and world building, and those traits are often non-existent in shifter ABO type stories. The sex was just a minor part of the overall story. The plot of a rare mage stallion (when usually only mares are mages, i.e. omegas) living among other stallions who isolate him or bully him is really engaging. I found myself eager to go back to reading even in the subway where people might glimpse passages about stallion shafts.
As a warning, if you aren't comfortable with... beastiality?-Animal fucking, this might not be the read for you. But if you are like me, all kink and no shame, then I highly recommend this read.

Falls Short
I HATE CLIFFHANGERS! Great concept and has a very unique storyline which held my attention. Too disjointed though. If culture has no written language or limited written language then it usually has a very strong oral or story telling tradition. None of the characters knew what was going on or why things were happening no stories to guide them. Felt like everyone was standing around waiting for something worse to happen instead of being proactive. I did love the fact that the shifters spent the majority of time in their animal form and developed a culture that didn't reply on the human aspect. This caused me to leave a 3 star rating instead of a 1 I would normally leave since it was a CLIFFHANGER!

Horse shifters, who knew. The book ends in a cliffhanger and it was interesting enough that I will probably look for part two.
Alvarr is a stallion but he has magic that usually only mares possess. That doesn't make his life easy in the herd of other stallions, to put it bluntly he's an outcast. He doesn't have any friends and noone to help protect him from the bullies. If that's not enough problems for one guy his magic is starting to get out of hand, secrets from the long forgotten past are interferring with the future and the world is getting more and more hostile for the shifters. It's quite possible that from Alvarr's understanding of his gift depends the fate oh his species.

This story was a little different then your normal shifter story. They normally change into their animals for when they need to. With this story that were mostly in there horse form. We see the struggle that Alvarr is having with his tribe. He is a mage and is on the outside of the tribe with all not truly seeing him. Laren is having hard time see what is happening with his tribe. Do not that it does end on a cliffhanger and cant wait to see what happens in the next book. Will we see more of the triple bullies or is there change in the air and ground. if you like shifter stories give this one a try

This is a wonderful historic romance that had a slow pace and simple plot, which I didn’t mind because the story was character driven. It showed a journey of self discovery and maturity for Alvarr, a horse mage. I love that the writer showed his inner thoughts and his beautiful naive soul, it was done so well it made me see the world through his eyes. I also loved the simplistic language and sentence construction as well as Alvarr’s wonderment and confusion when confronted with nature and tribal beliefs. This gave a very authentic feel to the story – it made me believe that the action took place in the Stone Age.
My only minor gripe with was with the way Laren’s character was portrayed. He came across as an overbearing and blind idiot, who was also slow on the uptake. The story would have benefitted from a few chapters in Laren’s POV that show how he thinks and struggles with his attraction to the young mage - so he appears more human and approachable and flawed. It will help the readers connect with him - because as it’s written right now we can’t.

We have a story of horse shifters where the mares & stallions are kept apart. They come together during the breeding time, after which that the mares go back to where they live & once their foals come of age, they send them to the stallions. Turns out that Alvarr is not only a stallion, but he is also a mage. He comes to learn of some secrets that are only known to the elders. Alvarr is also attracted to the lead stallion, Laren, who is cold to Alvarr. I didn't like how Laren treated Alvarr. I'm hoping by the last book, things will be better. The book does end on a cliffhanger.

This booklet, the first part of three, took me by surprise: reading the title I expected something trite and unoriginal to dismiss after a few pages.
This was not the case. It is and remains a very easy read, but it is pleasant with decent characterization and world building.
The usual downside is that it is not very long - the three volumes would probably make a short novel - and it is too expensive.

I enjoyed this story, though I would like to point out that Omega is not mentioned in this book, nor the concept of male pregnancy. I am sure it will come later in the series but just in case it’s something anyone expects.
I felt bad for Alvarr and while he tried to keep a positive outlook he has pretty much resigned himself to a life alone without even some companionship. He does all he can to help the other stallions but they still keep away from him. I liked the elder confiding in Alvarr and giving him the knowledge of the past even if it pushes him to go. Truthfully, I’m not liking Laren at this point. He is so hot and cold and really a jerk to Alvarr even when they hadn’t mated.
I look forward to reading more in this series to see how it all turns out.

3.5 - Not only my first Horse shifter book, but in this world the people are horses first, people second which makes for quite the unique take.
I enjoyed this more than I expected to, especially considering the HORSE SEX! You'd think that would be a deal breaker, but it was surprisingly not bad (or not too bad for me at least), but fair warning that is all you get in this first book.
Definitely going to continue with the series to see how the rest of the story unfolds. 😁
