The Fire God demands I become his Priestess…and take four mates.

I’ve secretly loved my four best friends ever since we were kids playing in the village together, but I can’t have them all—and there’s no way I can choose only one.

Blane, the town’s resident bad boy who I can’t seem to resist. Roth, the scarred hero who once broke my heart. Derel, the infuriatingly sexy man I’ve been betrothed to my entire life. And Falon, my best friend, who has never seen me as more…or has he?

When the Fire God chooses me to be his High Priestess, he demands I take four men to be my mates. Maybe I don’t have to choose after all…

But will the men agree to give up everything to join me at the Fire Temple? And if they do, what challenges will we face once we arrive there?

Light The Fire is a standalone prequel to the Her Elemental Dragons series.

The cover for LIGHT THE FIRE immediately caught my eye and I'm so glad I saw it because I really enjoyed this one! This is a prequel novella for the HER ELEMENTAL DRAGONS series and it was a fantastic introduction to the world. I found the setting really interesting and I can't wait to learn more about the Elemental Gods and the Dragon shifters who rule over the land. The very end especially sets up the rest of the series and I'm so excited for it.

I really liked Calla and her 4 men; they were all childhood friends so there's already feelings between them but this worked for the shorter page length. Falon was sweet and quiet and Calla's best friend, he loved her but kept it a secret because of Derel. Calla had been promised to Derel since birth and but they both resented it which lead to a more contentious relationship. Roth was Calla's first boyfriend and she thought they would marry until an attack left him badly burned and he pushed Calla away. And last but certainly the most charming, Blane was the village bad boy with a reputation of getting into trouble.

Each man was devoted to Calla and would do anything to make her happy. They're a little unsure about sharing her at first but quickly adapted. As short as LIGHT THE FIRE is, it still managed to pack in some very sexy and hot moments.

I'm really looking forward to reading more by this author!

I’d heard that in the Air and Water Realms many people took multiple partners, the way that the Spirit Goddess and the Black Dragon did. Some considered it a way to honor them and believed it was normal to love more than one person. - Calla

For me this was a difficult book to review. I read Light the Fire as part of the Realms and Rebels anthology, Light the Fire is a prequel in the Her Elemental Dragons series (1st book Stroke the Flame). It's not a series I have read but this does make me want to read it, as any entry in an anthology should. As I had not read any of the subsequent books I didn't have any pre-existing ties to the characters, I didn't know the world as fans would.

What I really liked was the lore. It is brilliant, there are reverse harems woven into the world, the mythology and I like the fate angle that was used. What really struck me reading Light the Fire is the feeling of fan service, Calla and her men appear in Her Elemental Dragons as supporting characters and this feels like something that fans wanted, had asked Ms Briggs for. But you really don't need to be a fan to read it and enjoy it I just think fans would get the most out of it.

In this prequel novella to the Her Elemental Dragons series, we delve into the past of Calla, head priestess of the Fire God, and find out how she came to such a critical post. As a young woman, Calla had yet to find her passion in life (both professionally and personally) but that all changed when she was chosen by the Fire God to re-open his temple and prepare for the future changes coming to the land. She was also instructed to take four mates, which kept her from having to decide which of her possible suitors she should marry. The characters have great chemistry, and the story is entertaining (if not terribly deep). This is a fun, quick read.

Light the Fire (Her Elemental Dragons, #0.5), my second read from author Elizabeth Briggs, an author I'd wanted to read since acquiring 14 books by her over the last 5 years. I got this book in May of last year & lost track of it until I learned there was a series. “I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to Stroke the Flame: Her Elemental Dragons, Book 1, as well as her other books. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

"Before I could pull away he reached for me, and then all I knew was fire and heat. It raced along my skin, tore at my flesh, and melted my bones. I was taken apart and reformed. I died and was born again. I was ash and flame, smoke and lava, sparks and coal, and then I was whole again."

I enjoyed this introduction to the series! Calla is looking for direction and finds it after sending a prayer to the fire god. She is to be the fire priestess and take four mates in preparation for something big! There is discord in the realms and as always It has to do with the rulers. Calla and her chosen mates embark on a quest blindly, but with purpose. This quest and their destination sets us up for book one in the series, Stroke The Flame. I loved the writing and how each mate had a different personality, and fulfilled the characteristics most girls desire . Falon is the calming best friend turned lover, Derek is the enemy/bully to lover, Blane the bad boy trouble maker, and Roth the broody and scarred hero. They were all strong and complimented Calla as well as each other. Looking forward to diving into more of this world! I was given the opportunity to read a copy of this book.

This is a prequal to Briggs new series Her Elemental Dragons. I loved the story line which gives a good background or intro to what's to come in future reads. This can be read as a stand alone and is a reverse harem romance read / listen. Narration is very well done and I loved he characters and storyline flow which was a faster pace but still informative and entertaining. I loved that each of Calla's mates have a history with her which endeared me to them as individuals and not just nameless, faceless, characters that have chemistry together. After reading / listening to this, I've very much looking forward to the rest of this series!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I have voluntarily provided this review.

Calla's story is a prequel to the Her Elemental Dragons series. It’s a short Novell Calla is humble honest and smart . She and her family live in the fire part of the world , near the fire god. She needs to find four men that are willing to drop everything and spend their lives with her. She knows which men she wants to ask , Derel a man she hates to love , Falon Derel best friend, Roth who broke her heart after they split , and last, Blane of course the towns bad boy . Do the men agree.
This is a must listen . Then grab book 1 , where you see Calla again as the spirit grandmother

How Calla became the fire priestess and her four mates. In less then 90 pages, Calla has sex with all four, faces the four dragons, reads the library, bears four children and prepares for the arrival of Kira and her mates.

Loved this! Especially enjoyed reading how the fire temple came back to life and how it’s Priestess was chosen. I wasn’t sure how Calla would react to learning her destiny and I was happy when her ancestry was brought to light. Her four guardians are so different and yet the same in their quest to be what Calla needs. This is a great introduction into the world where dragons are both revered and feared.

I love this quick prequel to the series! It's a nice, quick listen that gives us more background on the world and some of the characters. Plus, there's three steamy scenes in this short little story and they are HOT! There's not a lot of conflict in the story, which makes it perfect for a fast listen when you need a break from heavier topics.

The narration is great! It's done by the female narrator of the main series and she provides a pleasant listen. 4/5 stars for narration

This story sets the background for the "Her Elemental Dragons" series. It tells the story of the MC being called upon to help the Fire God. She must leave her home and take her 4 male friends with her in order to stop an earth tremor in her village (that the Fire God has started) to end. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and this is my honest review.

Short but sweet

It’s been a while since I read the previous books, but I thought Calla was pregnant when the new black dragon arrived… I think her name was Kaia or something can’t remember, but I could be mixing it up with the High Priestess from of the Water God…

This felt like it was a bit thrown together with how quickly Calla and her four chosen were thrust into their relationship. Skipping the twenty years ahead kind of threw me because I thought we’d see how they all interacted once living in the temple a bit and what was learned from the books and all of that.

Good to see Doran doing his bit all those years back in regards to going against Nysa, especially since knowing that the next black dragon being born that the Fire God referred to was his own child. (That’s not a spoiler if you read the books in order.)

All in all, it was a good read although short and could have been longer with temple life added before the time jump. After all, this book was supposed to be about Calla’s life, how she became the High Priestess and what she did once she became it. At least, that’s what the synopsis implies somewhat.

See my notes, highlights and commentary on Goodreads. Happy reading!

⭐️ 4/5 🌶 3/5
.
Overall: Light the Fire is a lovely little bonus novella in the Her Elemental Dragons world. It takes place before the original story and follows Calla becoming the high priestess for the fire temple and choosing her mates.
.
Story: This short and sweet book has everything the other books have, but condensed down to bite size. We meet her men, she's chosen to serve, and they venture together to the temple, making sure to stop for some spicy times along the way.
.
Spice: Calla already has a relationship with all her mates. With her strong connections already in place, the tension and steam can jump right all in!

I liked it. A lot. Definitely a good prequel. I haven’t read the rest of the books but judging from this book the series has to be amazing. So much background information was provided as well a beautiful relationship that built between Calla and her four mates.

I will definitely get around to reading the series. I just have so much I want to read and write. But this series is definitely on the list.

I received a copy of this book from the Author, in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a prequel to the Elemental Dragons series and it can be read as a standalone. However, if you are going to read this as part of this series I suggest you wait to finish the second book first. This installment gives the backstory of the Fire High Priestess and takes place 20 years before the first book in this series. This story also adds a little more background to this world.

This is a super short and fast paced read. I can not make up my mind if it was just too short or if some of the information in it could have been added to the first two books.

Super short and sexy, this is a great one for all fans of reverse harem fantasy romance. It gets straight to the point, diving into the romance and introducing the characters and the leading lady’s interest in them.

We didn’t get a whole lot of time with everyone, but i knew what to expect and got more than what I asked for. I’m interested enough to keep going with the main books in the series, since based on this novella, I can tell they will be a lot of sexy fun!

Light The Fire by Elizabeth Briggs is a prequel to the Her Elemental Dragons series.
Calla is called upon the fire God to choose her 4 mates and become the priestess at the fire temple.
I found this story well written and to contain important background information to the Elemental Dragons world. I enjoyed learning about Calla's history and really enjoyed this short story.
A perfect addition to a great series!

I read this after the 5 books in the series, not before and it was fine. I don't think it matters if you read it first or not. In the complete series audiobook and ebook, it is placed at the end, so that is how I listened/read it. It was really quick and rushed for a reverse harem. It follows a set of characters we meet a couple times in the original story. Its just a fun little origin story and doesn't have any impact on the larger story.

Calla has been in love with 4 men she grew up with her whole life. Never able to pick just one, never want to hurt the others by doing that. During the fire festival Calla sees the fire God and he tells her to take her 4 mates she was to be his high priestess. Cute short story, intriguing enough to want to continue reading the series.

Nice read..

It was nice to get some background info about the priestess and how it all came about. Light the Fire is a very short read about Calla, (the Fire God's Priestess) her 4 mates, and what happened when they were given their duties.

I enjoyed it very much. It had some hot moments and lots of sweet moments too. Glad we got another look inside this world.

This was a quick easy ready. It was a good story about how Calla and her 4 mates came to be the priestess and her priests, but I don't think the book was needed for the rest of the stories. It's not really one that has to be read in order to read the 5 books in the series. But, I did enjoy reading it.

Light the Fire

A glimpse into the High Priestess of the Fire Temple’s story. We got to see how she came to serve the temple and found her four mates. It was a fun addition to the series giving up a bit more insight into these characters.

Lit my fire

I love the Her Elemental Dragons series and this one was no exception. Calla and her men are just as well written and intriguing as Kira and her men. Each has their own unique personality. I only wish that is was a full length novel.
