TINA GLASNECK can't imagine a world without books. Her works have been classified in several genres, including mystery, suspense, fantasy and paranormal romance, and new adult.Yet for Tina, it is all about the characters and their journeys.

An avid reader with a love of traveling, meeting new people and exploring her world, her interest in law, religion, history, fantasy, and dragons, made writing about it an “easy” choice. Give her a castle to enchant her, and tell her a funny story to make her snort with laughter, but please don’t serve her cake with red icing.

Tina takes joy in beautiful architecture, lively cities and world travel. She enjoys creating make-believe worlds where she sometimes resides, and is often thinking and tinkering on her next story. Sometimes she feels like a real life Cinderella, without the ashes or the fairy godmother, and at other times, she is just a girl, looking for a chance to tell that next great story.

This opens with the battle of the Aesir, led by Odin, against the Venir, and Loki, father of Hel, knows that Odin will kill or punish anyone who doesn’t stand with him. Several years after the battle, we return to Hel with her family on a picnic and Odin’s soldiers round up her brothers and her, taking her to Helheim, land of the dead, where she finds she has to harden herself quickly against the villains who live there.

This is exhaustively info heavy. For people who are experts at Norse mythology, this is for you. For the rest of us, it was just a jumble of names and events, and who was on which side, with all the proper names for all the different factions, and people, and creatures. Through all the info dumping, it made the character roles practically cameo appearances. I felt like I really didn’t get to know any of the characters. Even Hel felt reactionary rather than showing off a personality. There was really no personal motivation for any of the characters in the story, other than the info mythology history. I usually pick up these sorts of books to see the legendary characters expanded upon and given personality to bring them to life beyond just their historical context. The lady on the front of the book never makes an appearance (and for that matter, what holiday?) I was assuming when I bought the book, that the lady on the front of the book was Hel, but Hel in this book is a young girl, referred to over and over again as a child or little girl. Though I do want to applaud the author for all the research and information that went into this book, which definitely didn’t seem easy to wrap it into a coherent story.

it is the first book that I have read of this series.
Nice story but too short.
the title... not fond of
I guess the cover it is okay, although it gives the impression that we are about to see a twisted tale with the traditional devil.

A little too short for me to really get a sense of what is happening, but it sure sets the scene for something big to happen in all the books that follow. The story seems to be told through the ages, spanning several series to tell a much larger story. I'm excited to get started.

A short prequel that rehashes the Norse mythology to give some background on how the Lady Hel came to be who she is. I didn't find it all that engaging or interesting sadly, and some of the modern language sounded really out of place. Maybe it'd appeal more to someone who'd already read some of the series rather than acting as a lead-in; I have no reason to care about any of the characters and there's not much to make me want to here.

the sad pre-quel that led Hel to the Hellmouth, and what made her so bitter against Odin.

Shame that so felt so abandoned - and definitely a loss of relative innocence for one so young and so strong - now wonder any later sense of a need for revenge.

This story takes us back to where it all began, where it all went to Hell – literally. I now have a much better understanding of why the characters behave the way they do as we get deeper into the different series. I’m also a little bit inspired to carve out some time to re-read all the books that tell Lady Hel’s story.

Hell For The Holidays is book 0 (PQ) of the Hell Chronicles. Was so refreshing to learn what made Hel who she becomes in the series. Was well written and an enjoyable read. Recommend this book in the series be read first. It will make the rest of the series better as you will know where Hel is coming from. Received a copy from Booksprout and this is my voluntary and honest review.

An amazing short giving us a look at Hel before she became a queen. Wonderfully descriptive , this takes us from an idyllic family life, to being taken by Odin, befriending a hellhound, to the realization that this is just the beginning of her path. If you haven’t read ‘Hellish’ , then this glimpse should definitely spark your interest. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

This is the prequel to the Hell Chronicles series and a great extra to let you learn just who Hel is. I have read all the others in this series and can not wait for the next book to come out to see what Hel is up to.

This book might have been a prequel but it gives a glimpse of what was going on with the characters before the main story and why some of them act the way they act. Short but I think it was rather cute.

This is a great lead in to the Hell Chronicles as it explains why Lady Hel is the way she is and about her father Loki.
Overall I really enjoyed the Hell Chronicle series and highly recommend it.
Read this story first before the others to really get an understanding for the series.

I loved learning about Hell and her siblings especially her love for her brothers and her parents. But the novella was to short for me I wanted more. Although it does make me curious to read the rest of the series.

This is a retelling of Loki's children and other pieces of Norse Mythology. It contains emotions and motivations absent in the original Norse telling of the gods. It makes for a good, if short story.

This is a short story prequel to The Hell Chronicles series.

I can't figure out the significance of the title or why the cover art was chosen. The story was interesting, but nothing to get excited about.

It was a good short read to give some kind of background to a character that would have a really full life later in the series.
I liked the style and the promises for more.

Betrayed by the Gods

This is a great backstory into the childhood of Hel - the future Queen of Hell and the betrayal that led her to seek revenge for her family.

Fans of Norse Mythology!

So this is the beginnings of Hel daughter of Loki. This is so interesting, I am a fan of Loki and I was curious about each of his children's story. This is a great introduction to Hel's story.
