I loved him. I lost him.
Gio
Several years ago, the love of my life ran away to join the army.
I haven’t been the same since.
I tried to move on, but it’s difficult when no one even compares.
And now he’s back…

Derek
I had to leave.
My parents forced it on me when they wouldn’t accept my sexuality.
And because of that, this is the first time I’ve been back in my hometown.
I just needed a closure. Otherwise, I never would’ve returned.
But what I wasn’t expecting was to find a deep connection still there, a deep steamy pull within me that’s challenging to resist.
What am I supposed to do when my lost love just wouldn’t let me go?

There is nothing awful in this romance, but the author simply is not able to create a compelling narrative flow, the "thing" that keeps you reading a book and makes you want to know how it ends.

Probably 1.75

I thought this short novel was pretty awful. It is badly-written and the dialogue is very stilted and clunky with people talking AT each other.

Gio and Derek fell in love at high school. Derek left suddenly and joined the army leaving Gio bitter and heartbroken with no explanation about his disappearance.

Fast forward 10 years and Derek comes back. He and Gio have not communicated in the meantime. Derek seeks "closure".After a little angst they fall into bed.

The plot stretches credulity beyond measure. It is not very interesting either.I got no feeling of what Gio and Derek were like.

Inevitably, all is wonderful and, in the end, they get married.

2.5 stars for this second chance romance.
Gio has spent the past few years since high school graduation trying to get over his high school love while convinced that Derek's feelings just didn't run as deep considering the guy just disappeared one day. No goodbye, no explanation, just gone. Just as Derek suddenly disappeared, he reappears and throws Gio's life into a tailspin. Unwilling to suffer another heartbreak, Gio is torn between confronting his past or turning his back on it altogether.

I liked some parts of this story, but other parts were meh. It was too quick and yet too slow.

I was prepared to not like Derek, convinced that he was just being selfish by seeking Gio out. Then Derek realized his error, so it redeemed him in my eyes. I was prepared to like Gio, but he was very woe is me in the beginning. It got better in the middle then kind of petered out at the end.

I would have enjoyed this story more had it been a bit longer and the characters a bit more fleshed out. We are told about Derek's struggles to come to terms with his family situation and his continued feelings for Gio, but I never quite felt it. Gio's anger was well placed and very short lived considering how much time he had spent wallowing in it, everything resolved rather quickly.
And, you know me, I cannot stand the lack of communication for the sake of conflict. There is much of this and it just adds pages instead of adding to the story.

The book was fine. Derek's emotional response to some things really got me. Max's friendship was refreshing.

One other small thing. I am not sure where the setting of this story is. I kind of thought it was in America, but the slang and sentence structures don't read as American. The setting is never important to me...until I can't place the story in your head.2.5 stars for this second chance romance.

Beautiful read

I so loved this story. It absorbs you and you can totally immerse yourself in their feelings and angst that they both go through all because of Derek's heartless family.

Gio is a lovely but lonely man who holds himself back in relationships because he's only ever loved one man and he'd never had closure on the relationship with his first and only love.

Derek ran away after a terrible argument with his bigoted father.

He too has never found a relationship where he could love someone as deeply as he did Gio and this is what makes him return home to try to make amends/get closure, only he finds it impossible because the old feelings  are still there in both of them.

There are misunderstandings along the way because of the way conversations started out but they are finally resolved with a sweet HEA.

Highschool sweethearts, Gio and Derek, were separated for several years. This story picks up just after Max and Bryant's story when Gio is at a crossroads. Should he continue to carry a torch for Derek or can he finally move on?

Derek is still a baby man about some things and Gio is a complete and total romantic. Of the two, Gio seems the least wishy washy, but, well, he is. I like them as people, so it is hard to see the mess they make.

The author manages to pack a good amount of thoughtful introspection and sexy scenes in this second chance romance. I was kinda frustrated by this story at times. I wanted to reach in and shake Derek because, again, baby man. Lol. But hey, that just made me keep reading to get to that HEA. This book is short and can be finished in one sitting. While part of a series, it can be read as a standalone without issue.

This is the 2nd book in the Only Him series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment, and clear of spoilers, I always recommend reading series stories in order intended.

Derek has come home to work out why he cannot move on with his love life. When he left years ago, it was an impulse and he was racked with pain from rejection. Coming back is either brave or stupid, but he needs to know.

Gio has no idea what to expect. He has not seen Derek since that time so long ago. He too, has been struggling with moving on. Can they get it right this time? Or is the pain of the past just the foreshadowing of the future?

These two so obviously belong together. They can't even keep their hands or mouths to themselves! It is a fine addition to the series.

This is a sweet story of a second chance at love.
Dereck and his High school boyfriend Gio were making plans for the future, But one rash decision made by the young hurt Derek changes everything. Now after some times he is back and looking for closure. Esitently Gio lets him in and they discover that their feelings are still much alive. But to let go the past and the hurt takes a periode of time.
Gio and Derek are really likeable characters. You feel the awkwardness, emotions and the pull towards them.
I really wished I coud kick some senses to Gio, though, for not listening to Derek. He often said he is an adult, But then he acted like a kid.
In the end he came through. Both guys saying they were an adult came across as just the opposite
I really liked this book. Well written story

Derek and Gio were high school sweethearts that planned to spend their life together until Derek ran away to the Army after his parents kicked him out for being gay. It's been several years and neither of them have been able to move on. Derek decides the only way to move forward is to find closure with Gio, so he plans a visit on one of his vacations. Gio isnt happy to see him, but they are able to work things out before Derek has to go back, and they get a HEA.

This was an okay read for me. I liked it, but I was a little bored because it didn't seem like a lot happened.

This is the story of Derek and Gio. High school Sweethearts. Derek vanishes one night and Gio doesnt hear from him for 10 years, until he suddenly appears on Gios doorstep, wanting closer. The story was steady to fast paced with the fact that Derek had to return to service in a few days time. Was well written. Book 2 of the only him series, with The Wedding Date being book 1 of the series. I received this book as an ARC, for a honest review.

Ok

A cute story about second chances. Young love with the possibility of more cut short due to fears, insecurities and poor communication. Very short and easy read.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Gio Albertini and Derek Tricks. Gio has never gotten over his first love. He is the one man that Gio compares all others to. He is also the one that broke Gio's heart and made him think all men will leave him. Gio doesn't understand why he just left in the middle of the night and wonders if he will ever meet anyone who will have him feeling like he did with Derek. Derek left after his family disowned him for being gay. He joined the military and has done great raised up the ranks and made something of himself. Now he is back in town and both wonder what exactly does this mean? Can they find their true HEA or will the break each other again and go on with their meager existence?

This is an amazing story. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say these characters will take you on journey you never expected to go on. They will have you hooked and not let go till the very end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second chance romance between Gio and Derek. Gio and Derek had dated in high school and had made plans to be together forever. One day Gio learned Derek left without a word and joined the army. Years later, Gio and Derek have never gotten over each other. When Derek returned to their hometown, he knows he has to visit Gio to have closure and to be able to move on. Gio is shocked to see Derek but doesn't give him a chance to explain why he left. When Max forces Gio and Derek together, they are forced to talk, only they act on their attractions and the next morning, Gio doesn't want to talk. Derek knows he has to visit his parents, who disowned him when he came out. Derek's visit doesn't go well and he asks for Gio. They have to decide if they can be together when Derek has to return to the army. I really enjoyed this story. I thought Gio and Derek really loved each other. I think they should have been together all along if Derek would of talked to Gio. Good one.

Really there wasn’t that much drama, no ex’s causing problems just two guys that fell in love with each other in high school, no one teased them , they were accepted. Gino was the nerdy one while Derek was in sports. Then the last day of high school was also the last time they saw each other for years. Derek ran away to join the army, Gio became and accountant. Their relationships with other guys were great but lacking knowing the hurt and the need for closer needs to take place before their separate futures. That what bring Derek back to his hometown, to seek Gio for the hurt he caused Gio to be forgiven. The only thing was Derek’s parents, his mother is a weak and scared but his father is an abusive a hole.

Derek returns to his home town to try and sort out his feeling for Gio.
After an argument with his parent when he tells them he is gay Derek leaves town without even speaking to his boyfriend Gio. He joins the Army and has a good career with several advancements but finds himself to settle into any relationship as they all fall short of what he had with Gio. Having gone on into a good business career Gio is unable to maintain a relationship as each man fails to measure up to his memories of Derek but when the real thing turns up on his doorstep he feels the risk to his fragile heart is too great. A MM romance to relax and enjoy.

This is my 1st read and review for this author and this is a really good story and I enjoyed it immensely. Derek is gay he was in love with Gio but Derek’s parents never accepted his sexuality so he took off and joined the army. Gio has tried to move on he really has but when Derek joined the army he took Gio’s heart with him and no matter how many people Gio’s tried to date they just aren’t Derek. Now Derek is back in town he still loves Gio but he’s having trouble communicating and there are misunderstandings galore, can the guys work through all of their troubles to get their HEA in the end?. This is such a fantastic read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

After being rejected by his parent for being gay, Derek left home without a word to his boyfriend Gio. Both men have tried to move on, but no relationship ever measures up to the love they had. When Derek returns home seeking closure, the chemistry is still strong between them, but can Gio get past his feelings of rejection to forgive Derek? Will they grasp ahold of their second chance and recovery what they lost? This is a great story with sweet characters. It kept me turning pages until the end hoping for an HEA. Although this is the second book in a series, it can be enjoyed without reading the first book.

I'm voluntarily reviewing a free advance reader copy I received from the author.

Gio and Derek were high school sweethearts who got separated when Derek left right after high school. They had a reunion when Derek was coming back for closure, not expecting Gio to be single still. Gio was rightfully angry at the lack of contact and no explanation, and Derek did his best to give him answers. Of course, lack of communication gets in the way. I didn't love this story, but it wasn't awful. I was glad they were able to be happy together, but it seemed to rush quite a bit through the end.

This was a nice revisit with the guys from book one and thier news. But this is ultimately Gio and Dereks story. Lost love is exactly as it sounds, the love of your life getting away. Many different reasons why it might occur but neither the less it happens. This is quite a nice story, about second chances or third or fourths. Depending on how you look at it. But it is a nice story for sure. I do wish it was longer so we could have felt built a bit more. But it was still a great book. For book two in this series. Definitely worth a read.

Explosively bittersweet and heartwarming!
A bittersweet romance and a captivating tale of a love so deep that it endured years of what-ifs. I was reminded that everyone makes mistakes. What matters is how you respond to them. Gio and Derek’s rekindled love story left me frustrated at times, but ultimately the heartwarming moments made up for all the tears shed. A definite page turner.

A well written short story. It is written in dual POV which gives the reader much more of the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. A MM story with characters that develops nicely through the story.
About going back to find out the one you left still has the connection with you. A story that is worth reading and has substance in it. Not that fast paced as others can be.
Recommendable read.

As the second book in this series, I enjoyed the story more, but there still was something missing for me. I'm not sure if it's the writing style, but it seems like in both books one MC speaks in exclamations and I'm totally over it.

Once again, I enjoyed Derek, but Gio kind of drove me crazy. He didn't listen, he was all over the place and was somewhat depressing. There was just so much drama involved. They weren't speaking, they were, they weren't, etc.
