Sara has a life she should love. Blake appears to have a life anyone would love. But sometimes should and would just aren't enough.
Sara Chandler knows she should be happy with her life. Her best friend would even describe it as ' perfect '. She has the perfect boyfriend, the perfect grades, the perfect family, and has almost secured her spot as the perfect editor of The Gazette, her school newspaper. But Sara feels something is missing and can't help but think it might be in the form of a dark-eyed wrestler, Blake Brandon, the same something every girl at Woodlands High thinks is missing from their lives. Sara knows that her crush is just that, a crush. But when Sara finds Blake literally at her feet, Sara's 'perfect' life flies out the window. Although Sara's new life in what must be an alternate reality appears to be absolutely wonderful, Sara is wary. And she has every right to be. Especially when she finds out what Blake has been hiding. Skinniness is Next to Goddessness? Sara's Story is the prequel in a YA contemporary series with many romantic elements. Omg, I’m here like Mr. Brandon, why they are talking about the counselor from books 1-5 in this series. Come to find out Blake is the actual guy who spoke to those girls (Lacey, Jamie, Audrey, Tina & Anna) through their eating disorders. Because In one of the books it mentions how he had the same problem in school and comes to find out he was the dang counselor.I was here ‘lost’ wondering who’s “Sara” was and why a book was written about her... I thought I had seen her name in at least two or three books to this series... during the girls counseling sessions. But I can’t place her.. but then my brain is telling me in one of these books her name is mentioned when Mr. Brandon talked about his wife.
That is crazy; I liked Mr. Brandon in book 1-5, and dislike like him 2.5 seconds when he let dust bunny Britney and her friends bully Sara! I think he could’ve to help Sara! If he actually did care for her. The way he went about it hurt Sara so bad especially all those evil things they did to her. I couldn’t blame Sara for not wanting to talk to him and not deal with him. Run away when he comes around. I too think why are you here, trying to ruin my life again. But I cannot wait until he apologizes and explains to Sara why he did what he did when they were in high school together.
I’m still mad about that set up that was the plan. But I was wondering how they played that setup so well when (well, how they know Sara was going to the bathroom at the particular time)... plus Darla and Jared were both a piece of crap too. I definitely wanted to smack them both with Britney...
I like how Blake finally gave Sara an explanation of why he couldn’t tell her or diss her “treated her like crap” as he said., I knew Britney was EVIL but evil enough to put Blake eating disorders out was pure evil if that was the case behind him treating Sara the way he did. I still said he was DEAD wrong!
But glad in the end, she knew that she should’ve forgiven him a LONG time ago; especially behind the reason, he did what he did. I also, knew that it wasn't planned for Sara to find Blake passed out! Ha, Britney saw Blake changed because of Sara; what a hater. Glad, that Sara got Blake in the end. #truefacts
Mmm.. not sure how I feel about this.. it sure wasn't what I expected. The bullying was really awful. I felt bad along with Sara and actually sobbed a couple times. The betrayal was heartbreaking. I actually felt bad for both Sara AND Blake. Especially when Blake's reasons for his behavior was revealed. But I also disliked him too for what he allowed to be done to Sara. Hard to forgive that. Except, in the end we do forgive him. But damn, it still hurt.
>Book Review – The Nobody and the Popular Guy >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 6th in the Sunday Lunchers series and ends in an HEA. This book is really 2 separate books in one. The first book is a story of the popular guy, Blake and how a less popular girl, Sara, helps him with an eating disorder. The popular girls get jealous and bully Sara, ruining her high school experience. >The second part of the story is really only a few chapters and takes place 14 years later. Now Sara and Blake are teachers in their same high school. Sara has to learn to forgive Blake, while they both are falling in love. The jump in time is too long to make the continuity of the story make sense. Blake’s cruel behavior is explained, but the reason seems far-fetched. If the story stopped after high school with a resolution, the book would have worked better. > This book is appropriate for a young adult (16+) audience. I am giving this story 3 stars. I liked the addition of an eating disorder, but the ramifications of having an eating disorder were never discussed.
DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA all it was was DRAMA, worst book I have read In . A long time I read alot and I got this for Christmas so that is saying something !! ( and it dose not help i am homeschool and sick ) anyway I have read quite A lot of books from Romance mastery to supernatural have read it all but this would be up there with my top 5 worst here was a few reasons why I did not like it
1.the girl was so selfish and she's mad because of something that happened 15years ago
2. The mean girl had no stops she and her friends were like a pack of wolf they bit and bit (not nibbling, doing something small Noooooo they bit they picked and bit again punch talk punch that was how it was they did not just make fun they cut her hair and said some very Bad words And a bunch that I can't remember ( can not sleep. ) And this did not stop till she moved away to new york I will not read from this writer again because of this book

This story and it’s life lesson squeezed my heart. As a mother of 4 (2 boys;2 girls) I always hope that even if my kids won’t turn to me there will be someone, anyone really, that they could turn to if there are issues. Bullying be the most important. Because, no matter how small the bullying, it’s still just that! And it can leave a life impression on someone that it can and will and does carry through to the adult life. Been there- done that. And I love how this book tells about a guy, not a girl, who suffers from an eating disorder. Because that too is very real and people just ignore it- double standard if you will. This book was an amazing read, I could relate to the characters and feel the emotions that they were feeling. And the best part? The HEA!
I admit to being slow…. I couldn’t figure out who this last story was about because all of the Sunday Lunchers were covered. But I never knew his first name, for good reason as it turns out!
Although I enjoyed all of the books in the series, this is probably my favorite. It gives the back story only briefly mentioned and takes it right up to the beginning of Sunday Lunchers. A privilege to read all of them together. Thank you!🥰
My feelings on this book are a little too hot and heavy since I just finished it. And I hate to say it but it was mildly disappointing. I liked the first half of the book. The author did a good job portraying hurt, betrayal and fear of being cast alone from the perspective of a teenager. But their adulthood left much to be desired. The characters did not do as much they said. Sara folded over way too quickly in my opinion. The mmc felt like a jerk at the end.
Oh my goshhhhh that was soooo cute! The first part of the story was the kind of thing I always wished had happened to me when I was in high school. Haha! All of it until everything fell apart, of course. But dang! This was exactly what I was hoping it would be when I started it. *happy sigh*
At first I was really confused hearing that this was Sarah’s story. But when I realized this would be about Mr. Brandon, I was super excited and I never expected that! I am so sad this series is over and I am going to miss it like crazy. I very highly recommended it to everyone
The story was good but the ending seemed rushed. I know the number of pages per book are limited but the ending could have been smoother. Keanini has tackled the eating disorders. I hope this book leads to covering bullying!
This story deals with an eating disorder and was recognized by Sara. Sara isn’t considered popular, but she has a ride or die best friend Lia. Blake Brandon is the popular wrestler that caught Sara’s eye. She witnessed a fall and was concerned. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. i loved the banter between lia and sara. But, I felt the end was rushed for a happy ending. a little to sap...
Go read this book series! The Sunday Lunchers is an awe-inspiring book series about six people overcoming their "bad relationships with food" and becoming the person they want to be. Julia Keanini has carefully crafted six beautiful books that will teach her readers about the dangers of having a "bad relationship with food", whilst giving us a sweet romance packed story. Throughout the six books characters learn the truth about human bodies - they are beautiful no matter the shape or size! This book series has changed my take on food and life in general. I will totally be re-reading this series. The entire collection is available on kindle.
This book is really the first story to the series and for me, having not read it first, gave a lot of extra inside information on some of the characters we see in later books. I enjoyed the quality of the writing and the content, although a lot of the book was a bit too cliché for my liking, due to the overdose of cliché books I have had in the past. I do however think a young teenage will enjoy it greatly. It is definitely my least favourite of what I have read but it is a must read if you want the full-series experience. I rate it a 2.5/5
The backstory, which is not actually Sara's story so much as counsellor Mr. Brandon's story! Yes THE Mr. Brandon who runs the Sunday lunchers. He had an eating disorder in high school, which was unexpected. Sara tries to help him but runs foul of his cheerleader bitch of a girlfriend, and Blake is too cowardly to man up :/
I got this in exchange of an honest review, this was cool to read, I liked the main characters, their differences and how it had mystery suspense secrets that I just wanted to know fast
