We made a pact, a promise all those years ago. He would be my protector and I would be his. We were only kids, but I knew without a shadow of a doubt I would love him for the rest of my life. He came into my life like a storm and left just as fast. I was beaten and bruised when he found me. Alone and broken when he left. *Revised Version*
I wasn't sure how to rate this one because this is one of those insta-love type of romances where the Hero & heroine meet when they were 11 & 10 and become instant best friends & know they are meant to be....
For Raegan, life at home was a nightmare her entire childhood because she had an abusive stepfather & an alcoholic/uncaring mother, therefore her friendship with Knox was the only good thing in her young life & her escape from the hell she was going through at home. However, when Knox is sent to live with his Father without even a goodbye, Raegan's life turns lonely & worse since she no longer has her BF to turn to & protect.
After 8 years away from his soulmate, Knox returns to claim Raegan but at first she is angry at him for leaving her alone to face the monster all on her own. Knox is resentful that his mother sent him away but he has limited time to make things right with her because she is dying. Raegan encourages this and they right away go back to be BF's & protector - only now they become lovers as well.
Raegan has 3 months to turn 18 before she can leave home and the monster of a stepfather. She & Knox wait for that day, but in the meantime, they know they are meant to be so they become more. She gives him her virginity but unfortunately he couldn't give her his because during the separation, he said he gave up his to a random chick while he was drinking & hurting. He later regretted it and while he said she was a ONS, he didn't say if he slept with anyone else but he regretted that he didn't save himself so that they could experience all their "firsts" together.
There is a bit drama with the stepfather from hell who regularly beats her up, burns her skin and even at one time attempts to rape her causing her to have a miscarriage. There is no OM/OW drama and there is a sweet Epilogue with them married & a baby on the way six years later.
What I liked best about this story was that the Hero, as young as he was (11-19), he had no interest for any other girl except Raegan. (Well except for that one mistake which I choose to have Amnesia on... 😉). He knew she was the one from the first moment he set eyes on her. So if you want a stress free, no angst and insta-love type romance, you will like this one.
I can't say that I enjoyed reading all the abusive, brutal, anger, fear that we experience with Reagan and Knox but I definitely enjoyed the way that it engages me to their story and all through the book I was worried about what's going to happen next. This book has its own deficiency, but because the way that it involved me with the story, I add half the star to the original rate that I wanted to give, and I really hope to read from B.K Leigh again too :)
I loved the premise and plot of this but unfortunately I did not vibe with the writing and the fact that this felt incredibly lust focused. I wanted so much more from these characters and it just didn’t deliver on that sadly.
I enjoyed the story but found myself distracted with the editing errors - words left out of sentences, by instead of my, etc. There were also gaps in time. A chapter would end with the FMC dreading going in her house because her stepfather was home and the next chapter would start out a week later. I enjoyed the story but I think it could have been fleshed out a little better.
I can tell you every single character’s full name because every time they are mentioned it’s with their entire name. this got very tedious in a very short time span and then when you put that with the unrealistic insta love I had no desire to finish it. dnf at 53%
Idk where to being. Reagan's life was so freaking terrible. Abused by her stepfather. Neglected by her mother. Bullied at school. How in the heck did nobody ever notice what was happening to this poor girl? Then she met Knox. I was so glad that she found at least one person who was good to her even though they were just kids at the time. He left town and she was left to fend for herself and I was like crap. She's gonna get killed. Things kept escalating with her piece of 💩 stepfather. It made me so angry that nobody stepped in and knocked him tf out!! Lol. One thing I didn't like about the story was how he explained that he was celibate because there's no other girl for him but he made a mistake a while back by losing his virginity to someone else. Yeah ok. Dude everyone has a past. I hate it when people expect the hero to be automatically devoted and commit immediately to the heroine just because they've had conversations together. Lol it doesn't work like that.
I would have liked to seen her grow a lot more. Have a little more opportunity to learn a little more about life and be able to live said life independently before settling down with Knox.
Reagan and Knox were neighbors, childhood sweethearts at 10 years old before they understood their feelings. Rea has been (and is being) abused since her mother married her step father. Her mother, an unemotional alcoholic enabler and her step father abusive, and gradually turning that abuse sexual further into the book. Knox was unable to do anything when he moved as a child. Now back, he protects Rea and they fall in love - again. Her 18th birthday is the day she plans to leave, with Knox, but plot happens and well, you’ll see!
This book is fast paced, and lacking details because of that.. however, its not necessarily a bad thing. A quick read, to the point but no less entertaining.

This story is a true depiction of abuse, loyalty soul mates and love. Relationships are hard to manage when you don't have role models to show you the way. It's even worse when you have abusive parents, and your best friend moves away. Rae has a hard life but the one constant even though they are separated for a number of years, is Knox. He's the boy next door, her best friend and her protector, and when he comes back, he is her savior and her everything. The story is sad, but the parts between them are sweet and heart wrenching, because you just want them to be together and happy.
I DNF’d this one. As I said, it had a great idea for a plot but the writing was atrocious. The author didn’t know the basics of English such as the difference between then and than or there and their 🤦🏼♀️ Things like that just made me cringe through the whole thing alongside all the punctuation errors. I am certainly no expert but if I can tell it’s bad, then it is REALLY bad. This book could have certainly used more editing and definitely more depth. The storyline was too shallow and fast paced to hold the reader’s attention. Sorry, this was entirely not my cup of tea.
Reagan did not have a good home life in fact it was horrible. But then she meets Knox when she is just 10. He becomes the light in her dark world, but then he got sent away and Reagan was left to fend for herself again. Now 8 years later he is back. Knox is exactly what Reagan needs together they are perfect, but still her home life is getting worse. This is a story of holding on to the good in life and it also has a very happy ending but Reagan goes through a terrible ordeal to get there.
I am not sure how should i feel about this. I felt bad for the h due to her circumstances but i am not able to understand why didn't anyone helped her. a complaint could have been raised, i kept on hearing how big and strong the H is he could have told the stepfather off, the employer of the H could have done something. I am hating this part where the h kept on getting abused and all we hear from the H are the lamentations and from the h is that few more weeks or months. Also i didn't feel the love between them nor did their friendship stood out. It was ok.
A few miss placed words and misspellings but still a very good book. Boy this couple really went through the ringer but came out on the other side stronger because of it.
Note* I will put a disclaimer on here in this review, that if you have triggers from abuse and such, you need to be aware.
A story about young love and living through and overcoming traumatic childhood experiences.
As emotional as this subject was, I didn't really connect with the characters or feel pulled into their world. It was like I was just skimming the surface.
It's not to say someone else won't connect on a deeper level, it just didn't happen for me.
This is my first book by this author, and I truly enjoyed it. I’m not a huge fan of YA, however because of the content of this storyline the characters don’t come off as immature and catty. The connection between Knox and Reagan is powerful. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
Rushed, stupid, dont care about characters. Why? Because she just takes the abuse, does not speak up, is weak as fuck. The boyfriend sees the abuse, tells her to not allow it, but does not really do anything to stop it. Dont get me wrong I hate abuse too, just like the next person, but If she is dumb enough to take it and not fight then she deserves the abuse.
This story takes you through a painful and sad journey of two young kids that meet and promise to always be there for each other. As always, life happens and that promise gets put to the test. It’s a powerful story of true friendship and love. Overcoming obstacles and enduring years of abuse.
It’s always difficult to rate books that contain topics such as abuse and neglect. The author handled the sensitive issue well and gave us a feel for the torment Reagan endured. I loved how special and innocent Knox and Reagan’s relationship was and enjoyed seeing it grow.
Sweet hot romance. From childhood to 18 year olds. They fell in love and needed each other as children but that didn’t change as they became young adults. It’s a great story.
I liked the premise but there wasn’t enough… meat on the bones. I just wish it hadn’t been so simple. I would have liked a plot twist or more drama, not just trauma.
