The authors' homegrown writing styles contribute to a folksy, insiders storytelling. While the book selectively addressed historical figures, events, and social movements, the reader felt as though he were listening in on a Conch conversation at a local establishment. As a past visitor to the Keys on a number of occasions, I was familiar with the locales and could visualize many of the events and actions described in the stories. Without that advantage, it would be difficult for a reader to remain engaged. Each new chapter, well titled, pulls the reader into yet another curious and unusual experience, howevdr.
