A bio is a weird thing to write.

Just trying to imagine presenting the highlights of ME sets off alarm bells in my head. Why would anybody want to know anything about me? What about me is remarkable enough to tell?

When I think about these questions, I recall lying on my bed back in high school, headphones muffed over my ears, heavy metal blasting through my head. As with most teens, music’s power seduced me, and as I listened, I found myself admiring the albums' cover art (yeah, I’m old enough that I used to by LP’s) and I found myself reading about the singers and guitar players and drummers in the liner notes. Why? Because those musicians had created something that was deeply personal, passionate, and wonderfully emotional, and they’d shared it with the world. They’d shared it with me.

It made me want to know them through more than just their music. So, I read.

Through the years, I found myself reading about writers I’d enjoyed, historical figures I’d admired, politicians who weren’t dipshits, and business leaders who’d built great companies. Again, why? Who the hell knows? We’re all just people. I think we find each other interesting. We like to feel connected.

And that was my answer, at least as to the WHY.

On the WHAT I can say about me, for those who feel moved by my work: I’ll give it a quick go.

I was born an Air Force brat and lived in a dozen states before I graduated high school. I’ve worked my way through a wide variety of jobs, left most on a whim, owned businesses, lived through times when I had more money than I knew what to do with, and worried my way through times when I wondered how I’d pay the rent.

Life has been boring at times, and it’s been plenty exciting, too. So far.

I’ve traveled to India, stood atop the tallest mountains around, swam with sharks, smarted-off to cops, and been arrested. I’ve tried beer and weed, but never made a thing of either one. I’ve been brushed too close by death a few times. Thankfully, doctors, EMT’s, and nurses were kind enough to put all the pieces together again. I've ridden my bike so deep into the mountains it felt like I was alone on the edge of heaven, and I've watched the red sun sinking on an evening so clear it looked like it was falling off the edge of the world.

I’ve always had a hard time being where I am, wherever that is. My daydreams forever call from just over the horizon.

I’ve been asked by a dozen bosses where I see myself in five years, and I've lied every time, always telling them what they wanted to hear. Because the only thing I knew for sure, was that I wanted to be anywhere but there.

Great story!

The beginning dragged a little for me and almost made me lose interest, but I loved Adair's Slow Burn series so I kept reading. Glad I did! At the heart of the story is a man's love for his family and the things he will do to save and protect them. The political themes in this story are presented in a manner that warns of a possibility in America's future without ever once alluding to that future being saved by a Republican or Democrat solution. Adair never once interjected a personal political ideology into the story. In fact, it's told so well that the main character could be the hero for whatever political ideology you lean towards and the warning would still be viable for all Americans regardless of that political persuasion. Another great story from Adair where the physical copy will find its way to my bookshelf.

Dark, Disturbing and Irrisistable

I found this book to be disturbing and a bit depressing, but I could not stop reading it. And I can’t wait for Book 2. What I find disturbing is that our politics today make this whole thing seem just a little to plausible. I like apocalypse books a lot, but I am generally reading ones where there is no way that would really happen. This time I’m not so sure...

A great read.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Liar although it was a bit slow to begin with I'm glad I persevered with it. The main character Tommy wasn't easy to like initially but as the story moved on he became more likeable and together with the story more believable.

Prediction???

One of my favorite authors!!

It feels like Bobby must have a crystal ball and I pray that he doesn't. Knowing the research he did makes the book scary...but seeing daily that the current political landscape could so easily follow the path of this book, makes it all the more terrifying!

The characters are skimpy and one dimensional. The analysis of U.S. society is too simplistic to give a good foundation for the characters' motivations or clear goals for either army other than to win.

On the one side there are the militia types, who yearn for a government to push an agenda of ??? These small groups can organize secretly, band together and arm themselves (only the last part seems plausible) but the writer doesn't spell out what their objective is. He doesn't spell out why half of the military are supporting the coup attempt. They are just responding to a poorly regarded (despised by many, especially overseas) TV channel's call to arms. These people suddenly rise up and don't claim any agenda because they hadn't thought that far ahead?

Describing the atrocities that fascists would commit is easy but unless you are willing to assign a philosophy and agenda, the story falls flat. The people described exist already but not because Fox created them.

The patriots protesting in favor of the confederate flag, confederate monuments, against women's rights, against pro-environmental regulation and whatever pro-human topic offends them, self-identify as white nationalist, Nazis and white supremacists. They wear their red hats and drape in U.S. flags and funny enough MAGA hats have been showing up overseas, worn by Nazis and other white supremacists in places where Nazi flags and insignia are illegal. For the story to make sense, a little courage is needed. Creating a false equivalency between the above and "liberals" is weak analysis and leads to weak writing.

The Nazis in Germany and Fascists in Italy and Spain were not a majority and they were not successfully opposed by their enemies but more importantly they were supported by prevailing cultural "truths" that the majority wouldn't reject. As a result, Jews were burned, labor organizers were hung, gypsies died in concentration camps, and all the rest. 5% won't cause the civil war, the quiet support of millions of people afraid to oppose their positions or who agree with them (but are "good" people) could. Based on real world circumstances (Spanish Civil War, North American slavery, rise of the fascists in Europe and the US today), the story would have much more plausibility and some emotional heft.

Their opponents watch MSNBC and are ready to mobilize into liberty brigades or some such. MSNBC doesn't create activists but does create a population segment who can and do applaud their own progressive views. Actually doing something about them or with them, not so much. MSNBC actually purged its lineup of people who were a little too loud or reminded viewers that the stories reported, had real world consequences for the victims and a few tears might not be the appropriate response.

That diametrically opposed progressive population segment isn't unified, organized or motivated enough to flood congressional email accounts with policy questions. "These are not the social warriors that you are looking for. Move along." The one side has zero people prepared to even defend themselves and the other side is hoping for an opportunity to shine. GED with assault rifle wins against J.D., PhD and Masters degrees armed with self-congratulatory outrage again, folks.

Half of the established defenders (military, police) of the flawed democracy, (writer's description, not mine) which has always moved towards human improvement???, rebel against their country.

Centuries of land slavery, civil rights accorded to the descendants of slaves only took 90 more years because those descendants fought and sometimes died for them, 60 years after that (The Present) black college graduates earn on average less than white males with a HS diploma. Then there's the suppression of women's voting rights, The supreme court's quashing the ability of women to file class actions against corporations (anyone really) and the pending repeal of abortion rights. Latinos have now been recorded being accosted on the street while working for proof of citizenship by whites who don't even need a uniform and who suffer no legal consequences afterward. The above are unpleasant but no one denies that they are on the internet or in libraries.

Half of the defenders of those laws and that legal tradition betray their oaths, no way. Just because a military officer looks the other way when a subordinate once again, unfairly punishes a black or Latino soldier, sailor or airman doesn't suggest that they would join white nationalists to restore the freedom of ??? to ??? against ??? Just because a police officer corroborated a fellow officer's lies during a murder investigation into the shooting of an unarmed Black, Brown or Asian teen/child/woman/pensioner/junior partner/bus driver doesn't indicate that he might join with white nationalist patriots in taking back??? their country.

With that backdrop, it's impossible to blame 90% of apathetic voters as the setup for the story. The writer used 80% vs 10% actively engaged with Fox and MSNBC but the reality is much more likely that network executives would throw parties if either network has that high a percentage of viewers.

There are believable fascist thugs but other than being poor and stupid or middle aged, middle class officers of those thugs (for the power trip, the rape camps or general machismo?), there's nothing to explain what their origins are or what their expected payoff for treason is? The liberals are hopeless but armed and proficient with assault weapons, familiar with military room clearance and have a network of like minded fellows to join for anti-coup operations.

The original idea was good but starting with the flimsy premise and the inadequate social analysis the book fell apart. From the next book on, it will be another typical apocalypse story minus the "let's shoot all the dangerous criminal non-whites", "drive away or kill any non-christians" and the obligatory "let's put our American flag on the roof, because this is a shining city on the hill" (I love that last one, spoken by President Reagan after running on a campaign of reining in "black bucks and welfare queens"). I like this writer's other books but this book didn't do it.

This was a quick & decent $0.99 read. I won't be continuing the series, though. Unlike other readers, I had no difficulty discerning the political ideology of the protagonists/antagonists. The symbolism is clear. That's fine; most of the fiction in this genre is slanted the other way. It doesn't hurt to treat it from the other side for a change. But I have no desire to follow these characters. A minor niggle is the protagonist's threat to empty the magazine of a Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum into an adversary; I am not aware of any Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum handgun that is not a revolver, and which therefore has a cylinder, but no magazine. There ARE other more modern semi-auto (magazine-fed) pistols on the market that utilize this cartridge, but none are manufactured by Smith & Wesson. It's a minor mistake, but a lazy one for an author writing a novel in which weapons are so central to the theme, and which indeed figure into almost every scene.

Exhilarating

I loved this book. I was up until 2am reading. Sleep, life and work has a habit of getting into the way of my reading.

I have read ALL of Bobby Adair's books. Each one different and unique. I always say this one was my favorite. I will say this. Experience and knowing what his reader base wants AND keeping abreast on world's events definitely brings this book to the top.

The Liar. I thought I guessed who the liar is/was. But I think I may be wrong on who I suspect. With all of the twists and turns...I am dizzy.

10 stars out of 5. I will await anxiously for Book 2. Can't rush a well written book .

This book, was an AWESOME READ!!

The Liar was a non-stop read, start to finish!!
If you liked the movie Red Dawn, this book is for you!! Only, the United States isn't invaded by foreign countrys in The Liar!
There is a group of people causing trouble all over America, with the goal of taking over the entire Nation. A small town in Colorado is where this story takes place. Corrupt people start gathering up townspeople, locking them up or just outright murdering them.
Can the good people of the town take their lives back and save their love ones, those who weren't already killed? Guess you'll have to read this book!!
Me? I'm waiting for the next book!!

This book starts somewhat slowly and builds gradually which is part of its charm. You are left trying to figure out what's going on along with the main character. Tommy grew on me as a capable guy with a shadowy past and, for once, not an ex-special forces or military type. Summer, initially, bothered me as being slow to accept what was happening, and too hesitate, but that really is what would happen in such a scenario. She and Tommy were unlikely partners who didn't really even like each other, but ended up being able to work together well-also realistic. I'm not sure why such a small town in Colorado was an initial target but this interested me enough to move to the next book.

Who's lying?

This was a difficult book to read, not because it's bad, far from it. Considering the way our world is right now this story hits very close to home.
As the author says at the end, there is a Mr Hyde in all of us and we don't know how little it might take for him to come out. Tommy is a great example of this and it took a long way into the story for me to figure out whether I liked him or not. This is a work of fiction but could easily be tomorrow's news.

He does it again.

Adair keeps producing masterpieces. He is in a league with only 4 or 5 other authors of these genres of late. Could not put this book down. Unfortunately, I think it was not quite as fictional as some of his other work -- with the story being possible in today's climate. That heavy burden aside - quality read. Can't wait for the next one.

Wonderfully Eerie

After falling in love with zombie fiction because of the Slow Burn series, I just knew I had to check this one out and I was not disappointed. While there are no zombies of the fictional type, there are mindless drones following orders, leaving a path of destruction in their wake that very well could be our world someday.

INCREDIBLE ! An excellent & vibrant read ! Wow !

Breathless action with such plausibility combined with a potential real outcome gives the reader cause to shiver as the story unfolds. Dynamic protagonist characters, ruthless antagonists and clues to an underlying message that evolves as this extremely well written story unfolds is an eye opener! The talent and skill of the author is more than evident and so is the editing. Well edited stories demonstrate the professionalism and high regard the author and editor hold towards their craft. Superb editing allows the story to continue to flow without the distractions caused by spelling errors, missing text, and so on.
I would give this story 10 stars if I could !!!!

Bobby Adair is one of my favorite apocalyptic authors. This book did not disappoint. I enjoyed the characters, the landscape & political side of his writing even though he says this book is not indicative of today’s political atmosphere. It was all relatable to me, and in his final words (epilogue) I could see how he chose to write this book. I highly enjoyed yet another Bobby Adair book! Can’t wait for next in the series!

As always, author Bobby Adair grabbed my attention and scared me greatly with his excellent writing talent.

The Liar was published in 2018. As it happened, it has proven to be, at least, partially prophetic and therefore absolutely terrifying. I did not want to pause my reading of this intensely gripping storyline. I’m looking forward to reading book two in this series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Another great effort from Bobby Adair

Good character development. The pace of the action makes you want hurry to get back to reading it. Bobby is an excellent writer. The way he develops his characters shows that he has a deep understanding of human nature. I have read all of Bobby's books. This one did not disappoint.

Uncannily real

After reading most of Bobby Adair's other books and enjoying them, I thought this would be another enjoyable zombie story. It wasn't! I found it to be an extremely good indictment on the current political situation. I could not put it down and can't wait to see what will become of us in the next installment.

Of all the end of times book that I have read this one hit home the hardest. It was about an America divided between 2 political parties and throw in fake news and some deap fake videos. The land is taken over and lists are made of those with differing political views, and they are rounded up and killed. Man just way too real to the climate of today. I can't continue reading this series.

Good

I choose this rating because I've read his books and really enjoyed them. What I look for in a book is if it grabs me from beginning to the end. Mr. Adair does this with all of his books. I would recommend this to everyone.

Great main character, fast read. Lots of action. The scary part of this book is realizing all this could actually happen to us. Makes you think about just where we may be headed as a country and a people.

New writer for me

This is the first book I have read by Bobby Adair and am please to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure.

This is an entirely different story line although I once imagined it with the big divide, red versus blue, right and left.

COMPELLING

I another compelling and interesting novel by Bobby Adair. This one has dystopian insurrection theme involving the USA. The author has obviously tried to scrub political opinions from the novel In contrast to other authors who push their opinions down your throat.
