The secret to an extraordinary life starts with five simple changes that anyone can make. In this groundbreaking book, Zack Friedman starts with a fundamental What drives success? It's not only hard work, talent, and skill. The most successful people have one thing in common, the power to flip five internal "switches." We all have these five switches, and when activated, they are the secret to fuel success, create happiness, and conquer anything. The Lemonade Life is filled with inspirational and practical advice that will teach Learn from the entrepreneur who failed 5,126 times before becoming a billionaire, the fourteenth-century German monk who helped reinvent Domino's Pizza, the technology visionary who asked himself the same question every morning, the country music icon who bought more than one hundred million books, and the ice cream truck driver who made $110,237 in less than one hour. With powerful stories and actionable lessons, this book will profoundly change the way you live, lead, and work. Your path to greatness starts with a simple choice. Everyday, you're choosing to live one of two the Lemon Life or the Lemonade Life . Which life will you lead?
Zack Friedman is the author of the bestselling, blockbuster book, The Lemonade Life. Zack is the founder and chief executive officer of Make Lemonade, a leading personal finance company that empowers you to live a better financial life. He is an in-demand speaker and has inspired millions through his powerful insights, including more than fourteen million who have read his advice in Forbes. Previously, he was chief financial officer of an international energy company, a hedge fund investor, and worked at Blackstone, Morgan Stanley, and the White House. Zack holds degrees from Harvard, Wharton, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins. He lives in New York with his wife and children.
The Lemonade Life was the perfect dose of inspiration while also being very relatable. Friedman shares advice and examples of how to live life on your own terms by being more aware of the control we have over our thoughts and emotions. This is what he calls The Lemonade Life.
Taking control helps give you the ability to have more positive changes in your own life. You will feel like you are in the driver's seat instead of everyone and everything around you. While we can't always control what happens to us, we can control how we respond and move forward.
Friedman introduces the five internal "switches" we can all introduce into our own lives that can help get us to this place. These switches have to do with your perspective, risk, independence, self-awareness, and motion to work and create the life you want. When these switches all work together, you will see your life through a new lens which helps you live The Lemonade Life.
After introducing the 5 switches, he talks about how Lemon Lifers would look at different circumstances and then how a Lemonade Lifer would see and utilize the same situation. Mindset and who you surround yourself everyday are such huge factors in not only who you are a person but who you become. I thought Friedman did an excellent job at presenting how risk and mistakes can help us grow and this was such an inspiring part of the book for me.
I got so much out of this book and I know it is one I will refer back to again and again. While not every section was totally applicable to my own life, there was something I was able to get out of each of them. I loved the idea that The Lemonade Life isn't a destination but a way of life. When we know ourselves, use the tools we have and work towards our own personal goals, we have the ability to live full and happy lives right where we are and as we grow. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins Leadership for an advanced copy of this book.
This book is incredible! This book spoke to me in so many ways and really helped me focus on what I want to do with my life. Zack Friedman is an amazing writer and he writes in a way that makes you want to get off the couch and take the world by storm. The book has a good balance of motivational advice, research and inspiring stories about how to live your best life and be your best self. The biggest take away for me is that life is made of all these decisions and we have the power to control our decisions. And we do that by flipping these 5 switches that help us live a better life and get on a road to greatness. I highly recommend this book - it’s the best book I’ve read in years!!
Great book full of positive messages, anecdotes and interesting stories. The five internal switches presented are excellent guides to help us train our thoughts and behaviors toward more positive endeavors. I chose to read a bit every morning, enjoying a daily does of inspiration. It's easy and enjoyable reading and written well.
Part business book, part leadership book, part self help book and overall inspiring! The author, Zack Friedman, is a thoughtful writer, funny and a straight shooter. He talks about these five “switches” that we all have and when we flip them to the “on” position, our life and career can be much better. I highly recommend this book.
I received this excellent career help read as a Goodreads giveaway. The author provides concrete, real-life examples to illustrate concepts presented in a well structured and organized manner that the reader can easily understand and implement in their personal and professional lives.
This month I’m reading so many different genres it’s crazy! Thanks @zackafriedman and @hcleadership for sending me this copy of The Lemonade Life! 🍋🍋🍋 I love good motivational books for life and business! I love my job and I’m good it, but sometimes the corporate life can be a struggle, so a book like this is perfect to read halfway through the year to get me back on track and have a positive outlook for the next two quarters! .
In this book Friedman says the Lemonade Life is all about leading life on your own terms, with purpose and possibility! He has five steps where he breaks this down throughout the book. Along with the steps he provides great stories for each one. I was excited to open the book and in the very first line he says he was having lunch with Warren Buffett! I’m a huge fan of Buffett and have always respected him, so is was awesome read about someone getting to spend such intimate time with a corporate phenom!! .
If you are looking for a great business/life pick-me-up book, The Lemonade Life is a great one! 🍋🍋🍋 .
I received this book as an advanced reader copy from Goodreads and was absolutely thrilled with the inspirational messages and examples! This is a well-written and thought-provoking book with practical steps or "switches" for success.

** I received an advanced reading copy from a Goodreads giveaway
I really enjoyed this how-to book on how to lead a life worth living. I truly appreciate the message that happiness can be found within you. When I usually read these types of books I do not feel compelled to do the activities within them. Zack Friedman's writing style compelled me to pick up a pencil and paper and complete the activities-- which brought me some really helpful insights I had not seen or thought of before (especially the Wolf Pack one!). I also appreciated that Friedman emphasizes the fact that happiness can be found in many places, not just business, and that making money or being successful is not the key to happiness but the other way around!
However, he does not seem to have a lot of examples of people who did not make a lot of money/were in a lucrative business. This kind of caused a disconnect between what Friedman was trying to convey versus what he actually conveyed. I would have appreciated examples of people and techniques for those of us who are NOT trying to make it big (because not everyone wants to!!)
Other than this discrepancy, this book is by far my favorite how-to book due to its authenticity, applicability, and easy to understand language!
I received a copy of this book from HarperCollins Leadership. What an inspirational messages and real examples and stories of triumph! Very well-written with thoughtful leadership approaches and simple steps to provoke change and fuel success.🍋
The Lemonade Life is full of practical steps and recommendations to get out of your own way and accomplish your goals. Zack Friedman breaks down how we can better make decisions with the PRISM method; five different switches we can flip to better understand how we make choices, why we behave or don't behave certain ways, and how we can learn to make more productive decisions for ourselves. Chapter two was eye opening for me! I could see people myself and people I know in Zack's descriptions of those who live The Lemon Life vs The Lemonade Life. The state of our lives sometimes truly can be traced back to one critical decision and how we respond. Throughout the book, Zack provides real world examples of people who have succeeded (each in their own way) to demonstrate how our choices impact the trajectory of our lives. I love that Zack turns old adages upside down (for example, 'never take no for an answer'), offering insight into how to better formulate our steps for success. In chapter eight, Zack poses 20 questions that can change your life. I think, if answered honestly (and the entire book is about truly being honest with yourself), the answers to these questions can offer guidance on how to live your life with purpose. I don't read a lot of 'self-help' genre books, but I love the positivity of Zack's message in The Lemonade Life. He poses that we can all be successful because success is individualized based on our dreams, goals, and purpose. I think The Lemonade Life is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to put into practice and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to live a better life with purpose. I received a copy of the book from HarperCollins Leadership but all thoughts and recommendations are solely my own.
There are books that like to tell you how to make your life better without giving you any real (or realistic) idea of how to accomplish that. Then there's The Lemonade Life. Zack Friedman has written a gem of a book that gives the reader actual steps to take to produce sweet lemonade from the lemons life invariably throws. His premise is that, while we may not be able to control people and events around us, we can control our actions and responses. And it's there that the ways to turn your life into lemonade come into play. Now, just because the steps, or switches, are written down doesn't mean it's easy to take these steps, just that they're written out for you to follow and work into your life and routine. I'm looking forward to putting the book into practice, and I will come back and read and re-read and highlight it. It's that good.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions here are mine, and I don't say nice things about books I don't actually like.
This book was just what I've needed. I've been struggling so hard with being negative lately, not anymore. Would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their mindset and overall productivity. Disclosure: I did receive an advanced copy from the publisher.
The Lemonade Life: How to Fuel Success, Create Happiness, and Conquer Anything by Zack Friedman is a must-read for everyone. Friedman states that everyone has a chance for greatness (and, no, your chance hasn't passed you by) and I firmly believe this. He lays out a plan for activating 5 switches in your brain to rewire your thought processes...more lemonade and less lemons.
I was honored to be chosen for the launch team and read this book fairly quickly. I am now on my second reading, taking my time and highlighting important thoughts. This will be a book I reference often!
This has been one of the best self help book that I have ever read. Zack Friedman did an outstanding job with book. I have learned a few things about me that I needed to read things I need to work on and things that I thought Wow, I didn't know that. This book has opened my eyes to dealing with failure to learning to be more grateful. This is a book that was hard for me to put down . I received a ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER for my honest review. And I would highly recommend this book to any that needs to build are rebuild the way of life .
The Lemonade Life is s great book about thinking positive and accomplishing anything you put your mind to. I love the 5 switches that Zack spells out in the word Prism. He covers them in the chapters. P is for Perspective, R is for Risk, I is for Independence, S is for Self-Awareness and M is for Motion. I will definitely reading this one a second time with a pen and highlighter to take notes because it’s that good. I am honored that I was selected to review this book. These are my honest opinions.
I love a good self development/improvement book! This book focuses on the five switches that will change your life. P(perspective) R (risk) I (independence) S (self-awareness) M (motion). When you make the choice to shift to the 5 switches you can lead a lemonade life. The book is filled with anecdotes, positive messages and quotes which were great reminders that we already have the tools to work towards our personal goals.
This book is truly amazing. It makes you take a second looks at the way you look at every aspect of your life. What type of person you are and steps to make to change to who you want to be. It is easy to read and enjoyable.
Mr Friedman has successfully written a concise and practical guide to living a rich and fulfilling Lemonade Life! I did receive an advanced reader copy, but I will happily spend my own dollars and buy copies for for family and friends. Switch on the possibilities in your own life, highly recommend!
This book is a great pick me up for anyone who’s stuck in a rut. I know I started the year off with big goals, and as time passes we often forget them, or don’t strive for them as much. The Lemonade Life got me back into the proper mindset to conquer what I set out to do. The book is really nice because it’s also very readable. I enjoy that even when I was done with the book I could pick it up at any spot and read something that was positive and could apply to my lifestyle. This is a great book for those looking to get back on track with a positive mindset lifestyle.
I can’t say enough about this book. I received an advanced reader and set it aside due to a crazy schedule. Now I’m kicking myself for not reading it sooner! Friedman is funny, to the point, uplifting, and powerful in this book. I read it so fast because it was attention grabbing, but plan on reading it a second time to soak in the goodness. I highly suggest this book if you’re looking to surround yourself with positivity, a goal driven attitude, and how to enjoy the ride!
I received an advanced readers copy of this book from Harper Collins, but opinions expressed are my own. This is a great book for turning your perspective around and making you think about how you react to situations. Full of practical advice and humorous stories, it’s a wonderful motivational read! Everyone can truly lead The Lemonade Life 🍋🍋
This book was a great read! You can take the lemons life gives you and make lemonade with them, we’ve all heard this saying. But this book gives you five internal switches to flip and it’s an excellent perspective and exercise to go through on the regular.
I received an advance reader copy of this book, and these are my honest opinions!
