I enjoyed reading of the historical accounts of the polar expeditions. I was familiar with much of the info already but it was good to be reminded in a concise form and to learn a few more facts that I was unfamiliar with. I did not like the evolutionary and climate change assumptions made at the end of the book, otherwise I would have given it a higher rating!

Honestly, this book was disappointing. It looks like a small, easy read, but I did not find it so. The main part of the book was written somewhat in chronological order, but not very well organized, so it felt very disjointed. I would have liked more details on many of their stories. The material in the back, however, I found very interesting (documents/books/journal entries regarding the Arctic and Antarctic regions). I felt I learned more in the last 50 pages than I learned in the first 120. I wish there had been more maps, too. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it for an overview of polar expeditions. I'm sure there's a more well-written book on the topic.

This was an enjoyable overview of the history of exploration at the North and South Pole, from the very first explorers to modern times (early 1990's). Some of these accounts were familiar to me, having read more extensively about them previously, but others were unfamiliar, so helped acquaint me with them. (Did you know that a submarine has gone under the North Pole?) This book could easily whet your appetite to read in more detail about some of the men and events that made their mark in history with their intrepid spirits of adventure and exploration.

Fun book - lightly skims the history of arctic and antarctic exploration. Properly focuses on “the age of heroes” and exploration of the NW passage. Really appreciated the curated historical photos and illustrations.

Would've been much better if he/they had devoted entire volumes to each pole.

e crosciava, ringhiava, ruggiva e ululava,
