The crew of the Centauri Bliss find themselves on the other side of the Divide and get a first glance at the storm coming for the remains of the Imperium. The family will be tested in all new ways in their struggle to return home.
I am really liking this series. While this installment introduces a couple of new characters it did not get bogged down. Hope the next book slowed down on new main characters and flushes out the new ones. That being said loved this book, looking forward to the next one
Another good edition to the series. An interesting new plot direction, lots of action, more fun with the family without any drama, and some new additions to the crew make the book a fun and enjoyable read. Can't wait for the next book.
Every once in a while a book surprises me by triggering an attack of binge reading. I literally could not stop until I finished all three, and I can't wait for the next installment. Skyler Grant is a truly gifted storyteller!
Looses a Little of the Space Opera Grit, Adds a Big Dose of Dragon I love the thematic shtick where Taki advised the captain that she knew every plan was a bad idea, after they are way to committed to back out. Nice banter between captain and crew that is an essential part of space opera in my book.
Sinclair is a great bad guy, and what he did to Asara Grace aptly demonstrated his evil cunning.
Stealing the block and possibly freeing 10s of thousands of slaves was the kind of big bold action a Space opera should deliver.
Tamara taking over, really becoming the main driver of the family, is well written and plausible, and helps reinforce both her and the captains characters. Her quest to resolve her potential immortality by becoming Tourmaline is conceptually cool. Then when they get to the planet, and discover that Tourmaline comes as a package with Vess, a real honest to goodness dragon (wrapped in a thin veneer of "alien"), it just gets better and more complicated.
Ice and her band of space pirates were pulled back into the action plausibly to help win out over Sinclair's fleet, and her joining the Centauri will add some interesting dynamics and tension.
Jinx reluctantly embraces her destiny, and administers the ultimate justice with deliberate finality. A well written scene that
