About the author

Marc Ferro (born 24 December 1924 in Paris) was a French historian. He worked on early twentieth-century European history, specialising in the history of Russia and the USSR, as well as the history of cinema.

He was Director of Studies in Social Sciences at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales. He was a co-director of the French review Annales and co-editor of the Journal of Contemporary History.

He also directed and presented television documentaries on the rise of the Nazis, Lenin and the Russian revolution, and on the representation of history in cinema.

πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα οπτική από έναν γνωστό ιστορικό: αναρωτιέται γιατί γεννιούνται τα ταμπού στην ιστορία και απαντά ο ίδιος, επειδή πολλοί ενοχλούνται από ορισμένες καταστάσεις, και προσπαθούν να τις παρασιωπήσουν. Κανονικά το βιβλίο θα έπρεπε να είναι για πέντε αστέρια, όμως, ο ίδιος ο συγγραφέας κάνει μερικά λαθάκια (πχ, πολλά από τα ταμπού που αναφέρει δεν ήταν ποτέ ιδιαίτερα ταμπού, για παράδειγμα το αμυντικό σχέδιο της Ελλάδας στην εισβολή της Γερμανίας το 1941), ενώ ο μεταφραστής μάλλον δεν έχει ιδιαίτερη σχέση με την ιστορία και ιδίως τη στρατιωτική ιστορία (πχ, οι μεραρχίες γίνονται μοίρες). Ταυτόχρονα, το βιβλίο είναι πολύ μικρο και δεν ξεκινά ουσιαστικά να απαντά στα ερωτήματα που θέτει

A very interesting little book by the famous French historian, editor of the Annales and well known by his studies of World War I, and of the Russian Revolution. It consists of five independent chapters about some of history's taboos. The ones I found most interesting, nay illuminating, were the one about the fate of the Russian imperial family in the summer of 1918, and the one on the non-semitic origins of some of the Jewish populations in the Magreb and eastern Europe. Both are brilliant short essays shedding light into suppressed historical narratives, taboos, that deserve a more through attention and questioning from the professional historians and from the learned public in general.

Νόμιζα πως ήταν ιστορικό βιβλίο αλλά τελικά είναι δοκίμιο για ιστορικά γεγονότα. Θα το ήθελα πιο επεξηγηματικό, δεν με κάλυψε.

Vous devez savoir un peu sur l'histoire européenne (Russe...) pour que cette livre ne soit pas trop déroutant. Mais très intéressant

Une confusion volontaire entre de vrais tabous, des épisodes mal connus de l'histoire et des mythes soigneusement entretenus. Decevant et sans interet malgré un sujet passionnant qui reste donc à traiter par un vrai historien
