Cute book with a sweet story and lesson about caring and thinking about others more than yourself. Liked the simple way it displayed a profound message about Christmas being about others. Loved the big bed Truffle and his siblings receive from Santa!

An adorable story about a mouse who is having a hard time making up his mind about what to ask Santa for Christmas. Should he get something everyone needs and can use, or something he really wants? A great character lesson for kids about putting others first and showing compassion.
Truffle's Christmas is an adorable Christmas story in which a small and selfless mouse named Truffle can't decide what he wants for Christmas. He finally sends Santa (Santer Claws at the Norf Pol) a letter stating he wants a hula hoop. But as he settles into sleep with his family, he finds their shared and holey blanket isn't enough to keep warm. Truffle sets out on a mission to intercept Santa before he arrives to change his request from a hula hoop to a new blanket. After suffering in the cold, Truffle is greeted by Santa just in time before larger animals come to eat Truffle. When Truffle wakes in the morning, he finds Santa has brought not only an excellent new bed and blanket for the family, but has fulfilled the requests of all his siblings and provided Truffle with a new hula hoop.
The illustrations in Truffle's Christmas are a lovely addition to the story, full of warmth, wonder, and beauty. Misspellings attributed to Truffle's writing makes for a charming detail. A clear narrative structure will keep the audience engaged, though vocabulary might demand a slightly more mature audience (mid-elementary school).
A story about wanting something for your family and something for yourself, and both being okay. Also about self-sacrifice. Cute story that kids would enjoy.
A perfect little Christmas tale about a mouse with big wishes!
I just LOVE finding new Christmas books to read and enjoy during the month of December and I was delighted when I found this one in Dutch at one of my libraries. I am a big fan of mice (had some as pets when I was younger) and so a whole book of mice being adorable and it is set during Christmas? Yes, yes, please!
In this delightful picture book we meet a mouse named Truffle. He and his family live in a tunnel in the ground and while they have a good time they don’t have much. It is getting colder and not everyone fits under the blanket (I just wanted to give them a blanket). We see them decorate for Christmas and make some wonderful wishes. Truffle for instance would love a hula-hoop. And that is what he initially asks for until he realises that while a hula-hoop would make him happy a blanket for his family would make everyone happy. But what can you do? Well, Truffle decides, very adorably, to just wait for Santa! Yup. This little mouse knows he cannot send a new letter so what do you do, you spend the night waiting for the old man. Now that sounds quite easy I can hear you say. But believe me dear reader there will be plenty of adventures to be had in this magical night. Some almost scary moments even! I did love that Truffles went so far to see Santa, not many mice would be that brave to go out in the dark and snowy world.
And I loved it when Santa appeared, yes, he was drawn very oddly, but still very recognisable. I was cheering when he popped round and I loved loved loved what he did for the little family of mice. No spoilers, but you will go AWWWW and OMG a lot.
The art was pretty nice, though a bit wonky at times. I mean, what is up with Santa? But the mice were drawn very cute and that is the most important thing for me.
So all in all, I would highly recommend this adorable picture book to all! A mouse! Adventure! Christmas Magic! It is the perfect book for today and the upcoming days~
This is a sweet story to read aloud with children at Christmastime. It highlights the anticipation and uncertainty of what to ask for and it demonstrates the goodness of helping others and being more concerned about giving, rather than just getting. The watercolor illustrations are very pretty and complement the story nicely. We enjoyed reading this book aloud together and we've read it a couple of times.
