Axel was born in Hamburg, Germany. At school he was good at art, but didn’t think of a career in illustration until he won a cuddly purple cow in a drawing competition.

He moved to England in 1982 to learn English and study illustration at the Bath Academy of Art and then set up home in London. Axel illustrated a number of books for various publishers, and in 1993 Kate suggested him as the illustrator for Julia Donaldson’s first picture book text, A Squash and a Squeeze. This was the start of a hugely successful partnership: their bestselling modern classic, The Gruffalo, has sold over three-and-a-half million copies worldwide, and the TV animation was broadcast on Christmas day 2009.

Axel has illustrated a number of other highly successful books, including Muddle Farm, and his books have been translated into 42 languages.

Axel lives in London with his partner and young daughter.

In the day of the life of a toddler accidents are simply a fact of life. For Pip and Posy who love to play the day away the accident comes in the form of a little puddle. Fortunately Posy is a wonderful friend and helps Pip to clean up, get dressed and get back to playing. The next time Pip doesn’t forget, but remembers and uses the potty.

What a brilliant series! Pip and Posy is a new series by Axel Scheffler who many know from his popular illustrations for The Gruffalo and it has quickly become a favorite of ours. Much like the Tilly and Friends series by Polly Dunbar, Pip & Posy find themselves in everyday situations that most toddlers & preschoolers find themselves in. The illustrations are adorable and Pip & Posy are two characters kiddos can’t help but connect with.

With The Little Puddle it was instant love for Littlebug. We actually received a copy a few months ago and began reading it right around the time she began potty training. Now, this certainly isn’t a “potty training” book, but it absolutely helped! It became particularly helpful after she reached the point where she was no longer relying on pull-ups to catch her accidents. Every so often she’d have an accident and had a tendency to really get upset about it, even seeing Pip have his accident made her sad at first. What was wonderful was how through her reading she learned that it was still important to keep trying to make it to the potty, but if she didn’t it was something that happened to everyone and not to worry. Which to me was an invaluable lesson, and one that’s helped both of us tremendously!

Pip and Posy and the Little Puddle by Axel Scheffler is a marvelous new story for kiddos that helps them understand that everyone has accidents. This could certainly be applied to any number of things and not only potty related accidents. Helping kiddos to know that accidents are a part of life can help to reduce stress and help them enjoy life and childhood that much more. In our home I’ve even seen a reduction in the amount of accidents since our reading of Pip and Posy and the Little Puddle began. The new Pip and Posy series is one I’d highly recommend to anyone who reads to a toddler/preschooler at any time!

Oczywiście nie mogę przemilczeć wspaniałych ilustracji Axela Schefflera (autor ilustracji m.in. do GRUFFALO).
POLA I PIOTRUŚ, to urocza para bohaterów, z którą wasza pociecha będzie szczęśliwie dorastać.

'The Little Puddle' follows the story of two friends, Pip and Posy, as they play together at Pip's house. When Pip wets himself at Posy's house the book explores accidents and embarrassment and teaches children that there is no shame in any accidents they might have. The story is encouraging and relatable to younger children allowing the story to better engage their interest. The illustrations are bright and support the story well, depicting the action in such detail that a child could follow the story from the illustrations alone.

'The Little Puddle' is suitable for reading aloud to a Nursery class, who would benefit most from the stories moral. The book would also perhaps be appropriate for individual reading in a more advanced Reception reader as the book has some more complex words but is not too long.

Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

This was one of the many toilet training picture books we tried. She liked this one (and so did I) because it so calmly accepts that sometimes accidents happen and to try and remember to pause play in order to go to the toilet. It's also nicely conceptual in reinforcing the idea that it's a good idea to go toilet pretty soon after having snack time + a big drink.

Perfect for toilet training. The story explains that accidents are okay. Beautiful illustration that helps promote child's imagination and creativity. For kids 2-3 years old or for any kid that is in the process of toilet training.

A very good book to read to children going through potty training. Plus, the story is engaging and the illustrations will be very relatable to children. Especially the messes they can make while playing.

I have forgotten about so many of the books I used to read when my children were younger. My local library has just ordered this one and it is one of the favourites we kept from years ago ❤️

Pip and Posy are back! Pip is playing at Posy’s house and having such a great time that he forgot he had to go to the bathroom. A puddle appears on the floor, and Posy assures him that it’s ok and everyone’s had an accident. She cleans up the puddle and gives Pip some of her clothing to wear and then they are back to playing, and the next time Pip needs to go to the bathroom he remembers and uses the toilet. Great for kids who are potty training as it didn’t make a big deal out an accident. It would have been nice to see some adults involved though- Posy mops the floor by herself and then later draws a bath for the friends to share.

Short, well-written book about two anthropomorphized animals playing together. When one friend has an accident, it's no big deal, and the story ends with potty success and resumed play time. I really liked the matter of fact way the book talks about potty training as just one small part of a kid's day, and the reassurance it gives to children who might have accidents during the potty training process.

what i love about pip & posy, apart from the stories being funny & friendly, is how great it is that the gender roles are not stifling! i love children's books that don't make a big deal out of girls and boys being different.

also i'm endlessly amused by pip getting excited and forgetting he needs a wee and then discovering the puddle there. aw. it's okay, pip.

I will say this much about the book. The author had an interesting and unique way of dealing with a potentially embarrassing little "accident" while two friends are having a play date. I don't think I have any cohorts that would mop up my little puddle. Rabbit should count himself blessed to have Mouse as a friend.

Fabulous little book about Pip who forgot to go to the toilet. This is a gentle, sweet, affirming book that speaks to toddlers and their parents alike. Lovely little book. The first day we bought it home we had to read it four times.

Bright, primary colors and large, simple text are great for toddlers. This story about toddlers doing what they do (play with "babies" and trains--and have occasional accidents)will resonate with the little guys and is a great tool for parents.

If your toddler is getting potty trained this is a great book. Pip has an accident but no one panics, they just get cleaned up and move on. With the added bonus of a bit of cross-dressing and gender friendly playtime.
