For Katie McKenna, passing out and landing in the arms of Washington DC Soaring Eagles baseball player AJ Williamson is one of those moments she’d rather forget. Embarrassed beyond belief, she tries to pretend the incident never happened. She puts the escapade behind her, choosing to spend the summer preparing for law school—and admiring AJ safely from afar.

AJ, however, can’t forget the brunette with the green eyes who he caught that night on the concourse. She was funny. Quick. Not afraid to be herself. Intrigued, AJ wants to know more—and makes his move.

When Katie and AJ meet a second time, she finds herself no longer seeing him as AJ, the baseball player, but as Andrew Joseph, the man she is falling for. As her feelings grow, so do her doubts. AJ is known for his wanderlust, and his contract is up this year—will he even be in DC next season?

Katie has her own worries. Law school is going to consume her and is notoriously hard on relationships. The last thing she wants is for AJ to be a casualty of that. With the start of school looming closer, and her heart falling faster, Katie worries if she will be able to give AJ everything he deserves.

Can these two people find a way to realize they are worth the risk for the other to take? Or will their chance at love result in a swing and a miss?

Swing and a Miss (Washington DC Soaring Eagles 2) - PG13/R
Violence: none
Language: fewer than 70
Sex: descriptive kissing; roaming hands; sex, but no details

I loved the strength of this heroine! She has her life plan made and goes about getting what she wants. I thought it was a great thing to witness her falling in love with the super hot (of course! Aven writes *delicious* Heroes!) lead. I appreciated the vulnerability each showed and how their devotion to each other developed over time insomuch that they were willing to give up a little to get so much more.

Oh my goodness. This book had me in tears by the end. I really related to Katie's struggle to balance work, life, love, etc. Her falling in love with her celebrity crush was super cute. I think it would have gone down a lot like that if I were to have fallen in love with Zac Efron. One look at my childhood bedroom could have really ruined that relationship. I need more Barbara and Dominik! I want to know their backstory and hope to be as cute as they are later in my life. This book was classic Aven and perfect in every way. Definitely don't want to swing and miss this one!

Love this author

I love everything this author has published. This book doesn’t disappoint. The main character is fun and quirky. This book is part of a series. It could easily be read as a stand alone but I would recommend you start with the other book so you are familiar with the characters. This is a sports romance about a baseball player but that isn’t a huge focus of the book which for me was great. Although this book does have characters that connect physically I appreciate that this isn’t all spelled out and is left to the readers imagination. You certainly know there is attractions and chemistry but I personally prefer books that focus on character development and plot as this one does. It was a really enjoyable book and unique enough that I will remember it. Happy reading!

Aven Ellis knows her niche in the market, and she writes it well. She doesn't write suspense romance, paranormal romance, military romance; she tells the story of a young woman falling in love with a young man. They have their ups and downs, they have issues with committing for one reason or another, but they learn love and communication conquers everything. Her books are a light read that touch your heart. Her women are real people because everything's from their point of view, and their actions and reactions are believable. Her men are unique to each book but not as well developed as the women. It's fun to remember falling in love with my sweetheart. PS My husband and I met and were engaged in 3 weeks, then he started Berkeley Law when we'd been married almost 3 years with 1.5 children. 25 years and more kids later, we're still going strong. Katie's and AJ's story is believable.

----SPOILERS----
Sunday, Katie is working at a coffee shop her summer before law school starts. AJ Williamson, center field, walks in. She's had a fan crush since he was in the minors, met him when her best friend, Hayley, started dating his best friend, Brody, catcher, and Katie fainted into his arms (April). He doesn't greet her, though, so crisis averted. She gives him standard greeting, he says That's formal Katie. She quotes a movie, he names it and throws a TV quote back at her. A man who can engage in spit-fire conversation is sexy. Her co-worker reveals she has AJ on her phone. He buys pastries and 2 coffees, Care to find a park bench and have coffee with me. She grills him why, her boss says he shouldn't have to prepare a legal brief for her to go for coffee with him. She doesn't feel attractive, but he talked to her for 5 minutes before asking her out, so WYSIWYG. He asked her out because he can't forget the night she fainted in his lap. She says the craziest things, says what she thinks, and is smart. She has no filter, and he loves it. She talks about how cool it is she's out with her baseball star, he gets sad, she counters that that's only part of it. Put aside baseball for now, I want to know where you pulled that TV quote from, if you like adventurous eating…. He's happy again. He asks why law. She wanted to be a sports agent initially, but had a sexually harassing internship. Hayley's dad helped, involved employment attorney Gemma, the agent and intern coordinator got fired. Katie decided to be lawyer like Gemma. They hold hands and spend hours talking. They both love roller coasters. He drives her home (drives a different car every week), walks her to the door, and invites her to an amusement park tomorrow.

Monday, they have fun at the park, laugh during the roller coasters. After the first one, he wants to take a selfie of them with the ride name. Katie sees herself and frowns at her Mufasa hair and shiny face. AJ says I think you glow and your hair is amazing. He'd never touched curly hair before he caught her fainting. She tells him Andrew Joseph exceeds her expectations of AJ, and they kiss. She worries about how law school will work with having a boyfriend. He walks her to her apartment; Dominik and Barbara come out. Dominik has to get medicine and air freshener for gas. Katie's hoping they don't mention she checks out AJ's baseball butt. Before he kisses her goodnight, AJ invites her to the baseball game tomorrow night as his guest.

Tuesday, she goes to the baseball game, and because she's one of the early fans, she gets a bobblehead of AJ. Hayley tells her that AJ called Brody to find out where Katie works. She texts AJ a pic of totchos (tater tot nachos) and tells him she's looking forward to watching him play and even more to seeing him afterwards. He texts back that he's missed her all day. He texts that he wants to add talking to her to his pregame rituals. AJ catches what should have been a homerun. Then in the seventh inning, AJ hits a broken-bat home run. As they go to dinner afterward, he says he's getting a Tesla next week. She's worried because he doesn't commit to a car, he doesn't commit to a home. She's not even sure he'll stay with the Soaring Eagles after this season. She's nervous going to his house after dinner, worried about chemistry. Hoping he's a good kisser, hoping the fire doesn't burn out. She talks about how her family always takes Christmas pictures in front of the Capitol and about vintage cookbooks. He takes her to the Capitol to make a new memory. He kisses her thoroughly. Best kiss ever. They kiss for an hour.

Wednesday, she shops with Meghan, her sister. She's left a wake-up text for AJ, they're meeting after the game tonight because she has to work. He flies out after a day game tomorrow for a week of away games. Meghan is preppy, completely opposite of Katie, and is planning her future around Whitaker who has given no indication that he feels the same way. Meghan is totally excited about AJ, and wants all the details.

Katie and Hayley get ready for their date after the game. They promise to put lipstick on together at the retirement home. Brody drops AJ off at the girls's apartment, and takes Hayley to his place. AJ is in shock because she flat ironed her hair, the curls gone. Pissy doesn't like AJ. When it's just Katie and AJ, he admits he's never seriously dated anyone, that he can't stop thinking about her and looking forward to seeing her again. He doesn't want to rush into the physical because he wants to keep discovering her. That's how she feels too. Make out.

Friday, Katie, Hayley, and Addison (Hayley's friend) go to dinner. Addison is bummed because she didn't get a job she really wanted. She's also sad that there's a lack of men here; she hasn't kissed in four years. Katie shows Addison how to make an online dating video: I'm looking for a not so ordinary man to spend quality time with. Must love animals. Stadium food. Roller coasters. You have to be able to laugh with me at my goofiness, as well as yours. I will like going out to a fusion restaurant but like being at home, too. You have to put up with my Mufasa hair and getting your finger stuck in the snarls, because hello! Curly hair? It's snarls. I snore. I'm notorious for spilling things on my shirt. Odds are very good by the end of the night there might be food crumbs wedged in my bra. If it's something tasty, I might even eat it. Like if it's a potato chip crumb. Or a cereal marshmallow. I'd totally eat that out of my bra. I'm not glamorous. But one thing I can assure you is that you're getting the real me. As far as the real you, serious bonus if you have a bobblehead made in your image. Additional bonuses: having a glorious ass in baseball pants, delicious lips, and a smile that makes my heart flutter. You give me fireworks. You're romantic and swoony, and I have all the feels. By the way, I'm Katie McKenna, and my heart belongs to Andrew Joseph.

Later, Katie is drunk. She drunk texts him, full of typos. She wakes up Saturday morning. He texts her about the marshmallows in her bra, because he thinks those would get sticky; the cereal would hold up better. They're out of coffee, so she goes to Barbara's. Barbara and Dominik are still very sweet to each other. After 40 years. Dominik thinks eating crumbs out of your bra is practical and frugal. He also points out that AJ texted after receiving the video, which means he's not running away. They video chat, his favorite part about the video was when she got all mushy about him. He misses her. That's new for him.

AJ is finally back (Wednesday?), but she's at work. She has to make 6 custom coffees. They don't have a secret menu. AJ comes in because he missed her so much he wants the extra time with her, even though she's got 2 hours to go. He's glad see her mess up coffee, otherwise she'd be perfect: smart, top law school, making things better for women and the plan to do it, brilliant, intelligent, hilarious, fun. While he waits with a simple coffee, he'll read a book he just got, How to Be the Man She Deserves. Katie is shocked.

On the ride home, he says he plans to kiss her very late into the night, she might as well sleep over. No sex, he doesn't want to mess this up. He wants to set them up for success. He wants to make love to her more than he's ever wanted to with any other woman, but he wants "us" more. She recognizes she loves him. When they get to his apartment, he shows her his minivan. 25, no wife no kids, but a minivan for his Danes. He takes them traveling the US during the offseason. When he loves something, he commits to it. He rescued these Great Danes to give them love and security that he never had.

The next morning, one topples Katie, she's not fazed, and he's amazed. At breakfast, they share food, he invites her to Chase's 4th of July party (pitcher) Tuesday. She invites him to her mother's healthy party Sunday. They agree to buy vintage recipe cards and make a meal.

That afternoon, at his game, it rains. AJ, Brody, and Chase do a dance-off on the field as entertainment. AJ wins, earning nickname Snake Hips. Her mother doubts Katie's feelings for AJ are real because she had a crush so long.

On the drive home, she confesses her fears about law school: does he really want to be with her stressed out, etc? He says I'd rather have bits and pieces of time with you than endless time with anyone else. He wants her to realize her dream like he did his. They have long torturous make out sessions.

Sunday, AJ is first man she's brought to family dinner. Brody arrives, but AJ got trapped by mom and dad. Katie hurries, worried they're scaring him. He brought a wine to impress her dietitian mom. Her extended family talks about how she's always wanted to marry a ball player. Whitaker is disrespectful to Meghan. AJ validates Meghan's love of I Love Lucy. The guys leave. The girls go to rescue, Whitaker is giving him a tour of the house. Whitaker spilled the beans about when she fainted, it wasn't because of food, it was because of nerves. That her phone wallpaper was him. And showed him her room, with his pictures everywhere. She tells him I wasn't lying on the coffee date, and I'm not lying about wanting to get to know you now. AJ says I don't think you're lying, I think you believe it because you want to be true. She says The fact my sister's idiot boyfriend can sway you with one conversation is eye-opening. And I guess it's also irrelevant that you came to find me. I fell in love with you for liking old TV shows and movies, because of amusement parks, for loving your dogs so much you buy a minivan, that you're interested in my vintage recipe cards. All I see is a man doubting me for everything I shared with him. Thanks for saving me from giving you all of me, you've taken more than enough. And she leaves, crying. He follows, Katie we need to sort this out, you already did, Katie just stop. Panic in his eyes. I love you, I messed up, but I want to make this right because I love you. Why did you doubt me? Because I've never been enough. I was never enough for my parents to stay in one place, the only friends I ever made were because of baseball, girls pretended to share interests so they could be with me. If I had to be a fan first to know who you were, to be so nervous I fainted because I was going to meet you, I'd do it again. Because we had coffee and I got to know Andrew Joseph. He carries her back up to her bedroom, they make love. They get dressed, rejoin the party, and get to his house as soon as possible for more love making.

Monday morning, they walk their crew. Katie vows no matter how tired she is, she's never missing this. They plan their vintage meal, inviting Barbara and Dominik because they're the grandparents she's always wanted, and she wants them to know Andrew Joseph. She sits with AJ on the infield to watch fireworks.

Tuesday at Chase's party, with AJ's arms wrapped around her stomach, she loves the fireworks going off over where they had their first kiss. They kiss, Chase gets fantastic pictures. His girl didn't show. Hayley has an idea of whom to introduce Addison to, but they don't know what to do about Chase yet.

End of July, Katie quits the coffee shop. She hates Soaring Eagles away games. Her mom accepts that Katie loves AJ. They had their vintage meal, and Barbara saved them with leftover perogies. AJ asked them for advice for a long lasting love. The three girls have dinner. The next day, she has lunch with Gemma, who is completely against relationships in law school. It won't last the first semester. If you believed you could balance it, you wouldn't be asking me about it. She points out all the obstacles. Katie counters that Gemma only wants women who are exactly like her, married to their careers. She intends to have a life too. She'll advocate for women at a different firm, if she has to.

Katie thinks Gemma had 1 valid point, though. AJ was put last by his parents, what will law school do to him? He deserves more. She has to set him free so he can find more.

The next day, AJ is back. She's outside his building, bawling, he finds her, she tells him she broke up with Gemma. You deserve more than I can give as a law student, better than fragments of my time. Isn't that my decision to make? I believe in us enough to fight; you don't. You don't think you're worth it, I wouldn't love you if you weren't worth it, I wish you would believe that you are all that matters to me, you are enough. That's when she realizes she made a mistake. But she goes into a panic attack and she can't talk, she can't move. AJ leaves, she passes out and hits the sidewalk.

She wakes up in the ER. Cries. She has a concussion and a fractured nose, as well as abrasions on her nose and forehead. Her body will heal, her heart won't. She calls Hayley. Waiting, Katie figures out she was certain she would lose AJ because she didn't think the pieces of her were enough for him to love. Realizes he sees her as a whole woman, not just the good parts. Hayley arrives, Katie tells her everything. Hayley cries, too. Katie knows she should have talked through her fears with AJ rather than making decisions for him. Hayley makes a few calls, takes Katie to her dad's office. Hayley's dad is an attorney who married Hayley's mom while he was in law school. Hayley reassures her that AJ will see what you did came from your heart, it's not unforgivable. At dad's office, Katie tells him everything. Gemma gave you her point of view, here's mine. You are excellent at organization, discipline. Treat law school like a job. Hayley's dad points out that you doesn't get AJ all the time, and you're okay with that because you know it's his job.

Hayley doesn't take her to AJ's house. Katie complains because she needs to talk to AJ now. He'll see you and understand the delay. Do you honestly think you have one big fight and that's it, strikeout? This is like a swing and a miss. You missed the mark, but you're still at the plate, Katie. You are still in this game; you've just stepped out of the batter's box for a moment to collect yourself. They stop at Barbara's apartment. Barbara gives her a hug, then Katie sees AJ is there. Waiting for her. He apologizes for not catching her, promises he can deal with whatever law school throws. He can't live without her. She explains she wanted to stop him but couldn't, then that law school will be a job. They'll work it out. Even if he ends up in Seattle or Los Angeles. He says he told his agent to get the Washington deal done because money doesn't matter, she does. When did you tell him that. The day after the amusement park. I knew you were the one. You are my home. AJ tells her after he calmed down, he called Dominik because he knew Dominik was her grandfather. He asked him how he could convince Katie that love could get through law school. Dominik told him Katie acted out of fear and love. AJ says I'm going to marry you and we'll have a kid crew in addition to a dog crew.

They find a house together near Georgetown to maximize time together. Brody and Chase stayed in DC for the offseason, too. They have fun together. Katie gets out at least once a month with Hayley and Addison. Barbara and Dominik come over every week and Barbara makes meals for the whole week. At Thanksgiving, AJ comes home with a gift. It's to show how thankful he is for her. She opens it, it's a collection of vintage recipe cards. Complete set, with a bonus. The bonus is a picture of ice cream in a Soaring Eagles helmet, the top reads Reception Menu for the Wedding of Katie McKenna and Andrew Joseph Williamson. The courses are the meals they shared during their courtship. He gets on his knee and proposes. She doesn't faint. He says the wedding will be after law school is done so you can focus on school. A few weeks ago we were on the couch, you were reading, it was us and the dogs and I've never felt such peace. You didn't even lift your eyes from the page, but you reached over and began playing with my hair, as if to say, I'm here and I love you. I'm glad I was the player on your bulletin board.

*Book provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

What I love about Aven Ellis’ books is how she created this wonderful world around her characters and makes you as a reader part of it. You get sucked into the story immediately and never want to leave again.

We are back in Washington for her baseball series, following the story of Katie. She has been a baseball fan forever and has a big crush on AJ Williamson. Her best friend happens to date one of his teammates (book one of the series) and so it happens that she passes out in front of him. Not embarrassing at all..

Well, a few weeks later they meet again and hit it off straight away. The attraction and connection between them is electric and Aven Ellis captured it beautifully. I loved following their relationship.

Certain parts of the storyline were not authentic for me though and the conflict in the end seemed just placed, to have something. It didn’t seem real for me.

Aven Ellis always puts a lot of details in her story and really thinks about the personality of her characters. The storyline is full of great moments. It’s a fab mixture of Katie and AJ being together, some girls time, baseball scenes, coffee shops scenes etc.

I always feel very close to the characters in Aven Ellis’ stories, the emotions and feelings really come through. A very talented author indeed.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review. Okay, that's not completely true, I read this book before it went to get formatted and then I give it back to Aven with my thoughts and notes. This doesn't effect my review in any way, but I wanted to share part of my notes with you as part of this review so you can really understand why this book is a homerun-so punny, I know!

Moments-this book has so many memorable ones. If this was sold to hallmark for a spring/summer movie, they would have the hardest time choosing which ones to keep to bring alive. There's one in particular that is hands down the most romantic & thoughtful scene you’ve written to date. Idk how you came up w/ it, but it’s gold!!

Trust me, you will know which scene because it's magical. It doesn't matter if you don't like baseball, this book has SO many swoonworthy moments that you are not going to be able to put it down. Aven puts thought into every little detail and she truly cares that each story is different and her characters don't blend into one another. If you want a 5 star, romantic comedy to take you away from your day to day, Swing and a Miss is your next read! Also, falling in real love with your celebrity crush is a HUGE mood and I want that to happen any day now. Trust me, you will thank me later.

I thought I loved SQUEEZE PLAY, and then I read SWING AND A MISS, and my heart soared. 🥹 I had literal tears streaming down my face the last few chapters of Katie and AJ’s love story, and it was so worth it reading through blurry vision - haha, for once, not due to my eye nerves, lol. Aven Ellis wrote the perfect second book in the WASHINGTON DC SOARING EAGLES series, and I didn’t want it to end!

So in the book, Katie literally ends up dating her dream baseball player, AJ. Like she had his photo on her childhood bedroom wall. #BoyfriendGoals So, I need to wallpaper my room in Harry Styles photos, and eventually, the universe will work in my favor, right? 😬

Okay, I loved both characters in this book, but we need to talk about AJ. 😍 Helloooooo, new book boyfriend. The definition of swoon-worthy with a baseball butt. He rescues dogs! Plus, he’s patient, kind, understanding, listens, and is 100% in the moment. And he takes Katie on a bookstore date! Can I be this Katie?! Where is my AJ?!

Like the first book, I found myself laughing so much. Smiling as I read. And just enjoying my time with these characters as their relationship grew. I felt like I had found friends, and I didn’t want my time to end with them. I think that is partially why I was crying so much because it was happy/sad tears.

Katie and AJ already know each other in this book. It can 100% be read as stand alone, but, like all the Avenverse books, it’s more fun to read them in order and get to know all the characters because they make appearances in the books. Plus, their really fun meet-cute is book one!

If you don’t have time to read both books, read this one, it’s such a good HEA. So sweet yet fierce at the same time. You’ll laugh and I hope you’ll cry like me too! 🥰

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Thank you to Aven for my copy of this book. If you are a follower of mine you will know I am a HUGE Aven fan so I was more than excited when it came for Katie and AJ's book. We first meet these two in Squeeze Play but both books can be read as standalones.

Katie is a HUGE baseball fan. She always goes to home games when she can and if she can't she will watch it on TV either live or after the game. Katie has followed AJ since his early career. She has always thought he was a great player and well a little cute. Okay, a lot cute. It's fair to say he's her celeb crush. Katie is not your average girl. She is quirky but, she is not afraid of showing her true self. I really enjoyed her getting to know Andrew Joseph!

AJ spent his childhood going from place to place and never being settled for very long. The only constant in his life was baseball. AJ is a pretty swoon-worthy character. I loved their coffee date. It was spontaneous and real.

It was really great to see the other characters in this series again. I loved catching up with Hayley and Brody. I also liked the few scenes with Addison and I cannot wait for her book. The other characters I was so happy to see again were Barbara and Dominik! I seriously hope I am like them when I get to their age.

This book is full of moments that will make you laugh, make you swoon and make you cry. If you want a contemporary romance that will capture you from the first line then this is for you.

Another hit from Aven Ellis!
Swing and a Miss is a sweet, lighthearted sports romance.
We first met Katie and AJ as the best friends of Haley and Brody in book one of the Washington DC Soaring Eagles series.
Katie is the hilarious best friend who loves baseball and all the stadium food that goes with it. When she first met her celebrity baseball crush AJ Williamson she did what any normal girl would do, passed out in his lap.
AJ is the super sweet, devastatingly handsome baseball player who didn’t realize he was going to meet his perfect match until she landed in his lap, literally!
The attraction these two had was amazing. I loved the slow burn of them getting to know each other and not rushing things, even when wildly attracted to each other.
Sure they had their challenges, everything was not all hearts and unicorns, but in the end, they decided that they were going defy the odds and do it their own way.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

What do you do when you meet your celebrity crush? If you are Katie you faint his lap and hope he doesn't remember who you are but since your best friend is dating his best friend fat chance of that happening. AJ has been Katie's favorite ball player since he was in the minors. She knew all his stats and well yes he is good looking too.. She never thought she would meet him though.. After their crazy encounter AJ finds out where she works and goes to see her. He kind of likes this quirky girl and wants to get to know her more. Watching their story unfold was breathtaking and mesmerizing such sweet love and so fun. Will it all work out or will AJ run when he finds out how much of a mega fan Katie really is?

Great sports romance

Loved this book and the characters, Katie and AJ were destined to meet! Read the first book with Haley and Brody and went straight to this one. Flows really well, no down or slow parts. Knew the drama was coming cause there were only a few chapters left, but it was touching and romantic. Of course these book boyfriends are incredible, funny, kind and sexy, it’s exactly what we expect and I love that not every girl has to be blond, blue eyed and a size 2. Katie was great! I had a friend in high school that could eat anything and not gain an ounce. Twenty years and 2 kids later she is still thin and eats everything! Can’t wait for Addison’s story this fall.

This is the second book in the Soaring Eagles series, and it is just as fun as the first!

Katie (and her long-term crush on AJ) has her literally falling into him, when she finally meets him face to face. It's adorable how these two characters connect!

The pages turned quickly, as these two are easy to enjoy. Their attraction and mutual respect is very relatable and engaging. I sincerely appreciated the connection between Katie, Hayley and the "chosen" family that supports (and straightens her out), when she makes a mess of things!

I am enjoying this series, and recommend reading this book in the correct reading order to get the most from the story and characters. On to book 3!!

Are wild hair and fainting the key?

Aj and katie are relationship goals from the start in my opinion.
Aj is such a good book boyfriend. Katie has a few laugh out loud moments that I don't believe you will want to miss reading.
Dominick is another character who deserves some positive attention he is almost so realistic I can picture him and i think that is wonderful writing.
I think everybody should give this sports romcom a chance you will get to see if Katie and Aj get the ending she envisions since she first followed his career?

This is a single perspective story, close to a third person perspective. She was lovable sometimes and drove me bat crazy other times. Instead of talking things out she just decides how things are going to be and dictates what will happen. If she used those powers for good this would have been a very different story. All-in-all, decent story, lovable side characters. The steamy scenes are more of a fade to black. Nonetheless, I did buy into the characters, I'm in it until the end, halfway through the series.

I have been looking forward to Katie and AJ's story since they were introduced in Squeeze Play, and it was definitely worth the wait.

Katie has always been a huge fan of AJ, the baseball player, but it was fun watching her get to know and appreciate him as a person. I also enjoyed how AJ respected Katie and her determination to do well in law school.

If you're looking for a charming, light-hearted read, look no further than Swing and a Miss.

A pretty sweet read and I was all in with the cover page itself so needlees to say I totally loved it!
There were certain point where I had my doubts if its only one of the character who is fighting all for the other but I was so delighted to see them both fighting equally.
Cheery on top was this by our sweet hero-

'You didn’t even lift your eyes from the page, but you reached over and began playing with my hair, as if to say, ‘I’m here and I love you.’”

Swoonnnnn!!!

Enjoyed

A good second book in the series. I would read them in order just so you are familiar with the characters already introduced.

Good relationship development and fun characters. The only thing that was a little over the top was the 3! Great Danes. And one of them disabled. It was too unbelievable for one single guy to take on let alone a pro baseball player who travels more than half the year. Very small detail that bugged me.

‪As a baseball girl, I fully related to Katie’s love of the game and the players that go with it. Her and AJ were such a cute pair and I cannot wait to see glimpses of their lives in future books.‬ I read this book on a plane and I am pretty sure the older couple next to me could hear me swooning in my head.

I loved the way Katie is able to get over her crush with baseball great, AJ, in order to see him as a real person and not just a STAR! AJ is a great book boyfriend and it’s so much fun to see how the romance progresses after the way Katie fainted in Squeeze Play when she met AJ. This is a great next book in the series! Keep them coming Aven!

Lydia's Review

"Swing and a Miss" was very well written. I laughed at the beginning of it and cried at the end! Not tears of sadness but tears of joy, of peace and contentment. I put this book up there with "Connectivity" and "The Definition of Icing". I have enjoyed all of Aven's books and look forward to the next one!

Loved It!

Totally worth the wait! This book captures Aven’s style to a T. Strong female lead, both lead characters have very interesting backgrounds who have shaped them into the people they are today. Such great life/relationship points are raised throughout the book.

Simply the Best

Ellis's books give me all the feels. Katie and AJ are so cute. I adored their story. It was also great how the series ties together with her other books. Perfect reading for a lazy weekend.

Ave n does it again!

Once again, this is beautifully written. I fell for each character. I love the little details, it is never just " you smell her perfume" it names a specific perfume. These are peppered throughout. I have never read an Aven Ellis book I didn't love.

Star struck

She's a budding Georgetown law student who loves baseball and AJ but not in that order. In this newest romantic comedy. With fun loving characters this is a charming read perfect for a cold afternoon read

To me this book was entirely written too close to Haley and Brody’s story. The vibe was the same, some seemingly same scenarios and a predictable problem and outcome. If you read this as a stand alone it’s probably a four star but unfortunately since I didn’t I have to go with three stars.

Curveball!

Woooo! Was not expecting that little curveball (see what I did there) at the end. It seemed predictable initially but I totally misjudged. This book made me so emotional, and I absolutely loved their story. Didn't want it to end!

These books are good!!

I read a lot of romance novels. I mean, a LOT. These Soaring Eagles baseball (and Mountain Lions hockey) stories are just so much fun to read.

If you want a fun, feel good romance novel series, this is one to read!
