Saddled with debt and a crippling self-esteem, Professor Ian McMillan has struggled for decades with his demons. But that isn't his biggest secret—seven years ago, he spent his heat with an alpha he shouldn't have… his student.
Nothing should've come out of it. Except Ian conceived, and his baby's father… is also the department head's son. Under the threat of losing his job, Ian made a choice: keep his child, and sever all contact with Brad.
With no inkling of the baby he left, Brad Saxon graduated from college and joined the Meadowfall fire department, making mistakes along the way. Lives have been lost at his hands, and the guilt he carries is suffocating. How can he protect an omega, when he's failed others before?
But Brad can't forget about the omega from years ago—Ian, with his soft smiles and yearning eyes. When Brad enrolls in a Master's course hoping to see his professor again, he finds something he doesn't expect: Ian's in heat. This time, there's a child with him… a little girl with Brad's eyes.
Omega Teacher's Secret is a steamy 103,000-word May/Dec Teacher/Student romance, with a single dad, an alpha who grows to love the daughter he never knew he had, and a love that will warm your heart. There is no cheating, no cliffhangers, but definitely a happily ever after.
Warning: This book contains references to self harm. Full list of warnings available on the Look Inside. If those are your triggers, please exercise caution when reading!
I don't know that I've ever seen an author plagiarize herself this badly. I'll just say if you've read one of these Meadowfall books, you've read them all. The two professor/student stories might as well be the exact same book--some events actually happen around the same page in both stories.
Themes in each book:
1. Teacher/student dynamic 2. Older omega with no confidence, both teaching Chemistry (like, wow, you can't even pick a different subject??) 3. Older father in an authority position doesn't approve 4. Both omegas fired while the alpha gets no punishment 5. Student Penny catches them in the office/ Student Sue catches them in the classroom 6. June, a lab coworker, let both omegas in both stories borrow her birch scent 7.Both alphas feel responsible for deaths that makes them seem older than their age (Tony for one alpha, children on the job for the other) 8. Accidental pregnancy within 30 pages of the beginning
The omegas even share looks for crying out loud--lighter hair and eyes, graying at the temples. I could go on, but why? Wait, no, this is so egregious, I'm gonna. Examples below.
Exhibit A The Villain With Questionable Power Book 2: The president of the college, who is also the alpha's father Book 5: The head of the department, who also happens to be...you guessed it, the alpha's father
Exhibit B
Lying to the Alpha about the baby not being his. Despite there being NO opportunity to be with another alpha--and the alpha sleeping with the omega during a heat cycle...you know, his most fertile time--the alpha believes the lie unquestionably.
Exhibit C (and the most important one) The Unworthy Omega Complex
Book 2: Dale thinks he is an unworthy omega (his ex-alpha is the voice in his head, telling him he is trash) Book 5: Ian thinks he is an unworthy omega (his mother is now the evil voice)
Both omegas trash themselves at every opportunity. Here's a taste.
“Dale stared, his breath snagging in his throat. “I’m just an old professor,” he said. “I can’t see this working out.”
“I’m not anything,” Dale said. “There are so many better options for you out there.”
“But you’ve changed for the better. You’ve climbed out of all that to become someone stronger.” Dale swallowed, looking at Greg’s calves, then at his own hands. “I’m still... well. Still not much to speak of.”
“Dale huddled against him. “You’ll leave, won’t you? I-If there’s no baby.”
“I’m twenty years older than you,” Dale mumbled, glancing down at himself. Greg had never mentioned it, but Dale saw the stray blemish here, the gray hair there. His body had lost some of its definition from his youth, and if he squinted hard enough, crow’s feet clustered at his eyes.”
I didn't have to cherry pick these--I just flipped pages and random because they were everywhere...on just about every page. Note to the author--THIS IS HARD TO READ FOR 300+ PAGES. PLEASE STOP.
Other notes:
Structurally, a strong editing hand could make this book (and all the Meadowfall books) much better. Half the book should be cut--the plot meanders meaninglessly and covers topics that don't advance the story forward. I could forgive that though, if the characters were good...they weren't. The omegas are sniveling and weak--I have no idea how they tie their shoes, frankly. Yet, they manage to hit the alphas just where it hurts, casting them aside for reasons that make no sense, while the alpha grovels for doing nothing wrong.
There's more, but I'll stop there...which is probably something the author should learn how to do. If you can't think of an original story, please don't copy the one you already wrote.
This is the 5th book in the Meadowfall series, although this book does stand on its own very well. There is some mention of previous couples and I love the little glimpses of Valen, Sam, and Harris, but this book really is all about Ian, Brad, and their kids.
At first I was worried that this would seem like a repeat of her previous story since it dealt with an age gap and teacher/student themes. The big difference here was that Ian already has a child with Brad, Gwen, who is about 6 when Brad finds them. I liked the uncertainty that Brad felt about suddenly being a dad, and what he should do, how much of a "dad" he should be. But he fell into the roll seamlessly and I love how great he was with Gwen and Ian.
This also dealt with some serious topics - that of self harm. It's not something I read about or have first hand experience with, but I felt like it was handled very well. Brad never got upset or demanding with Ian, he just tried to understand and offer some coping mechanisms and alternatives to Ian going to self harm.
Of course, being an Anna Wineheart book, I was totally expecting that moment of self-sacrificing break up from either of the characters. I feel like how things went down between Ian, Brad, and Brad's father could have been avoided. Honestly, it felt like Brad was a strong enough of a character that he wouldn't listen to his Dad OR let Ian try to talk him into separating. I wish that could have all been avoided, to be honest.
But I'm glad Brad came to his senses and found Ian and refused to let him go this time. There is always plenty of emotion, romance, some sexy times, and love in an Anna Wineheart story, and I really, really enjoyed reading this one.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Can someone explain to me how a female alpha is supposed to impregnate a male omega? I'm admittedly way too gay to have a thorough understanding of female anatomy, but I didn't think they had the correct appendages and corresponding organs to produce and disseminate sperm.
I’ve started to go into this author’s books preparing myself to love the characters up until the ultimate crisis where they will make choices that don’t feel natural, but then I’ll love the HEA. And I wasn’t disappointed with this book...
I loved Dale and Greg in the short story and was super excited to see that Ian and Brad were in a very similar situation. The added dynamic of Brad being the son of Ian’s boss was very interesting and made many of the challenges that they faced more challenging.
The one thing that just didn’t ring true for me, in this book, was how compliant Brad was with his dad. Everything about his personality, and what we know of his experiences, would indicate that he would be most likely to hear his father’s opinion and promptly do the opposite just to spite him. And yet Brad seems to meekly accept his father’s interference in his life as appropriate. I didn’t get the impression that Brad was emotionally abused, as Ian had been, so I really didn’t understand why Brad wouldn’t be more “alpha” in asserting his own control over his choices and life.
I understood Ian’s panicked reaction during the crisis, and even understood why Brad let him go. But I didn’t understand why Brad didn’t react strongly and, to be honest, violently, against his father for his part in what ended up being their crisis moment. It actually made me lose a little respect for Brad as actually being good enough for Ian.
But, ultimately, Ms. Wineheart pulled me back in with their HEA. I felt that Ian and Brad both suffered during their time apart, and that Brad really redeemed himself before they got back together.
•´¨) ¸.•¨)Waiting for the one I could call my fave and this is it. (¸.•´(¸.•´ (¸.•¨¯`*
At times, this was a dark book, one I had to step away from because of what Ian was going through. A lifetime of misery and hatred had been impounded upon the omega, and he had giving into the voices and the temptation to inflict pain upon himself. But in the midst of it all, he was strong for his sickly daughter, whom you could tell he loved beyond measures. For every time Ian met a stumbling block, I cried out, "How much more can one person take?"
"You are worthy."
Those words spoken by Alpha Brad had true meaning. Meant to keep Ian safe and psychologically sound. Years prior, Brad had seduced his teacher and unbeknownst to him, they had created a child. What Brad did not know was there were forces at play to keep the two separated. Regardless, there was no stopping them once Brad met Ian again. The feelings were still there and it seemed as if history was repeating itself.
Omega Teacher's Secret was a lesson in "...if it comes back it was meant to be." I always default to Anna, don't ask me why. There is just this je ne sais quoi about her books that gets to me. Maybe it's because I have a thing for younger alphas falling for older omegas. Or is it just that I love to see forever after come to men who thought no one would love them ever?
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was another great book in this series. Ian has been running himself ragged keeping up with his job and taking care of his daughter and her health problems. Brad has never moved on from the one older Omega from years earlier and when he finds him again he finds even more reasons to stay.
Both of these guys have crappy family lives. Brad’s dad is a jerk and is the one who kept these two apart and pushes them apart again. Ian’s mom essentially hated him while doting on his brothers, I just has trouble understanding how they and his dad allowed him to be treated that way though it doesn’t seem he has any relationship with any of them.
I felt for both of them and neither seemed to really have any support, a friend or two but nothing to keep them going. I loved Gwen and how dedicated they are to her. I loved watching Brad work hard to show Ian how wonderful he is.
Whew, glad that is over. I can say I have two DNF in my whole life and this came close to being the third. I stuck it out though. Couldn't wait til it was over, even rushed read in spots. If a super depressed emo Eeyore wrote a romance book, this is it. Not that everything I read has to be all rainbows and unicorns, but I like to escape into books to make me happy. This was a rough one, very gloom and doom for about 95% of the book. Sex and something bad happening, on repeat. Even though I am not into the whole self harm thing, I will say the author did write that part well at least. This book has a pretty high star rating, so clearly it is well loved, just not for me! Hope other readers enjoy!
Overall: enjoyable, soapy drama with hot sex scenes. Like the rest of the series, it seriously is a soap opera with all that that entails.
Warning: Ian has thoughts and flashbacks to his mother being emotionally, mentally, and physically abusive and neglectful to him.
While normally I adore longer books I’m not sure this one needed 400+ pages. It wasn’t bad, but some parts were a bit samey. I like the MCs well enough but they were a tad bit bland. Not bad, and I liked this better than Dale and his partner’s story.
Ian is a 47 year old professor and single dad. He cuts when he’s stressed. Like all of this author’s older omegas so far he has crippling self-esteem issues. That’s not my favorite personally. Brad is a 29 year old firefighter who has gone back to school for his masters in chemistry, and he plays electric violin (man of many talents). He’s struggling with guilt and trauma from arriving late to a fire scene and a child died.
The setup for this book is almost the exact same setup as a previous book, down to the alpha’s dad being in charge of the college/department and the omega accidentally going into heat at school and they hooked up in the office and got pregnant. Only this time the professor left with kid like the alpha’s dad wanted. I’m also glad in this book the student is a masters student. However, the book didn’t feel identical. It was actually kinda fun to see another way the story could have gone. But poor June has been through this twice now with people thinking she’s one of the professors’ alpha (even briefly in this book).
Although, I do agree that not trying a young person down with a kid is a good option.
I’m glad the author shows that people in their 40s (and older) can still get pregnant. There’s a reason medical staff do pregnancy tests before risky meds/procedures until like age 65. I am VERY confused by everyone saying Brad is too young to be a father. He’s almost 30. That’s not too young. I did laugh out loud like the 7th time Brad worried about Ian dying because he SO OLD. Like, literally just worried about him dying of old age. Lol! Although if the fictional world they live in is like the USA, his worries about Ian dying from childbirth complications is legit (seriously, don’t give birth here if you can help it).
Still some issues with typos, repeated sentences (sometimes several times in a row), odd word choices, etc. (Some things read basically: “He didn’t want kids and wasn’t ready, there was no way he could be a dad and he was glad he was given a way out. But on the other hand, Ian needed him and he had children now, and what kind of alpha would he be if he left? He looked at them and knew he wanted a family.” Very contradictory and repetitive at times. But it’s all a soap opera so whatever.). Same as the other books, the drama tropes (student/teacher, age gap) aren’t so much a dynamic as words that are repeated to up drama. By which I mean it does t have much impact on the story other than “I’m older than you. You’re my student, this is wrong. I’m older than you and I should have my life together. I kissed my student. Etc.”
Ian kept saying he was twice Brad’s age. Brad is 29. Ian is 47. That is not twice his age.
I've really enjoyed this series so far and Anna gives us another heart warming story with lovely characters that are easy to love. Ian and Brad work really well together. It's easy to feel the connection and attraction between the two men and we're treated to quite a few hot scenes between the two men. The time the spent apart has been hard on them both but definitely more on Ian, with a child to support as well as her poor health and subsequent hospital bills. His mental health plays a large part in his character and how he copes with everything on a day to day basis. It' very hard to trust that this person who is suddenly in your life is there to rely on for the long haul. Even though we don't have a flashback or time with the men when they first met, I definitely got the sense of how much Brad has grown up in the years they are apart. He is very drawn to Ian and even when he meets Gwen, he treats both as an important part of his life. It's a great story of a family being reunited after being torn apart, secrets being revealed showing the true feelings and mental attitude of both men. There are several moments throughout that really show how hard situations can become, especially for someone struggling with self harm. Whilst I loved reading about this family that got the chance to be together, one part that niggled at me throughout was how often Gwen was left alone so that Ian and Brad could.....connect. She was in her room with books or TV but at six years old, it's a little iffy as to whether that's safe or not, especially with how lost in each other an Alpha and Omega can become during that time together. She also sounded a lot older than the age she was given. This is, of course, just my niggle I don't expect it to bother many others. For those who have loved this series so far, you'll love this one just as much. We have appearances from characters from previous books but nothing that would spoil the story for someone reading this without reading the previous four, it can definitely be read as a stand alone. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
A professor, a fireman/student, and a little girl... oh my.
Welcome back to the Men of Meadowfall! I love this series. This book is a great addition to the saga. Meadowfall feels real to me. I know the characters. They pull me in, and don't let me out til the end. There is age gap, student/ professor relationship, steamy sex, angst, horrid family, great friends, a violin, mpreg, and an adorable little girl. What's not to love! Ian's daughter has a heart defect. Because of the hospital bills, he is deeply in debt. But Gwen is his life. His secret...to help him cope, he wears a series of cutting scars. Hospital visits have him turning over some classes to his assistant. When he finally gets to the master's class, he runs into the one thing he hoped never to see again...Brad, Gwen's father... his student... his secret love. Brad has loved Ian since before an unexpected heat threw them together. He doesn't know his Dad, Ian's boss, blackmailed Ian into keeping away from Brad. He doesn't know about Gwen. But this firefighter has his own secret demons. When another unexpected heat results in another pregnancy, Brad is all in. If only Ian could break the rules and accept the younger man as his alpha... accept that he is worthy of love. It will take a near- death experience to finally unite this family. Come. Join Ian & Brad on their journey to HEA. There will be danger, a life- threatening heart problem, angst, trust issues, self- worth issues, hope and joy. You will love this book! Trigger: this book deals with self- harming. It is done with respect & acceptance, & is in no way demeaning. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
HOT M/M romance with sweet, sad and ugly moments. Comes with warnings… The author has warnings regarding self-harm so if this would bother you, don’t read this book. I LOVED it because it was so real. No billionaires, no miraculous “Aha” moments of retribution. Just real in an obviously unreal mpreg world. But it is an exceptionally HOT M/M romance. (OMG – chapter 3) Ian is a 47yo college professor, an omega with a six-year-old daughter, Gwen who has a severe heart condition. They are living paycheck-to-paycheck b/c of her expensive surgeries. Brad, a 29yo alpha and firefighter is the father of Gwen, albeit unaware. He comes to the college to take a graduate course just so he can see his omega again. When they meet after 7 years, it’s fireworks all over again! (An Omega in heat and an Alpha in rut!) Ian and Brad broke it off b/c of outside influences, which have remained. In this book you will find out why Ian harms himself, why Brad left his omega and why they need each other. There are some despicable people but there are also some very sweet, caring people depicted in this story. There are sexy, happy, and some very sad moments in this book. It comes highly recommended if you like HOT M/M romance with a couple who overcome many obstacles to love one another and others. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.
I have enjoyed all of the books in the Men Of Meadowfall series and I had high hopes for this one as well. Even though this is a great book it is so similar to the 2nd book in this series, Omega Teacher's Baby, that I was a bit disappointed. I love the characters and Ian's desperation is heartbreaking. He is so determined to do everything on his own that he is actually harming himself when he gets overwhelmed by trying to keep his daughter Gwen happy and healthy. Once Brad is made aware of the situation Ian is in he will do anything to help him and convince him they would be great together. They have many obstacles to deal with but Brad only wants to support and love Ian and Gwen. There is a lot of angst as Ian is terrified of losing his job and Brad's father is in charge of his department and totally against their relationship. The secondary characters are good and I like the ending. I look forward to reading the next book in this entertaining series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.
Although I feel this book would work well as a stand-alone, there are appearances by characters from previous books, and references to those events, that I feel you can appreciate more having read the previous books. Besides, if you like this kind of mpreg story, you'll want to read the other stories.
I wasn't sure how I would feel about Ian having kept the pregnancy a secret for so long, but as the story unfolds I came to appreciate the difficulty of his decision and the choice he was faced with. Brad I thought was exactly what Ian needed, both as an Alpha and as a second parent to their children. Brad has his own demons to face, but through that he supports Ian and I felt showed a maturity given the situations they are faced with.
I loved getting a glimpse of some of the previous characters. It was nice to see how their lives are progressing.
Ian is a self harmer, but who can blame him. Having a baby with heart problems, a past of an abusive mother, having to leave his alpha, Brad in the dark about the baby, a vindictive and hateful boss and grandfather of the baby and father to Brad, and mounting hospital bills for a child he loves dearly. Brad is a man who was left in the dark about his child and the man he loved. Now he can't connect with an omega and the love he could be offered. Meeting Ian again, the two go for a emotional roller coaster ride with both unsure and off balance. Ian continues his self harming ways and Brad is too unsure of himself to think he can be good enough for Ian and his daughter and coming baby. A May/Dec love that rips at your heart. An HEA heals our woulds. Good read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
This was a great story about omega professor Ian and his student, alpha Brad. I really liked both men and wanted them to find happiness. They were both intelligent and capable of giving so much love, but each had a truck full of trauma and drama to overcome. Even getting past the taboo of a teacher/student relationship, there was so much more they had to deal with. Brad's father and Ian's mother made me wonder how their sons could ever be brave enough to want their own family, since those two were definitely not role models. I enjoyed watching the men grow throughout the story. Being together helped them to work on their individual issues to become stronger. They also had lots of great family moments with their daughter, and those made me smile. This story was intense and engrossing. I hope the series continues, because I don't feel ready to say goodbye to all the great characters!
This story has so many sad parts, but it is also about how two people who were meant to be together and how they find a way to make it work. Ian is a professor and he is a self abuser caused by his mothers abuse of him as a child. Now he has a daughter by his student Brad. He chose not to tell Brad of his pregnancy thinking that Brad was too young for him. Brad has only ever wanted Ian as his Omega. He tried to help him with his illness. Seven years later, Brad finds out that he is the father of Gwen, she was born with a heart defect which has put Ian into debt. Brad's latest encounter with Ian has created another child. This time he plans on being with him through all of it taking care of his Omega. They need each other. It is a story of how to accept the ones that love you.
Ian is struggling with debts and self-esteem issues brought by his mother abuse when he was a child, and he's trying to do his best for his daughter, who is dealing with a heart illness.
Brad is a firefighter who made mistakes that costed lives and now is crippled by guilt, and think he can't protect an omega.
Oh! And they met seven years before when Ian was Brad's professor; at that time they shared Ian's heat and, although Brad doesn't know it, they had a daughter.
This is a very intense, poignant story; it will grab you and carry you through such a range of emotions that you'll end dazed, but with oh! such a happy feeling at the end.
This is a very intense may/december, second chance romance and I loved it.
The fifth of the six-book series and Anna has outdone herself again. In another world there are men who are capable of giving birth. In this world, ours, there are people who when given the chance will tear down someone for a slight or something as simple as being born. This also happens in this other world and the shame and self-deprecation forced on these Omegas makes me want to weep. Mothers and step-mothers who belittle children so much that they carry it into their adulthood and still feel worthless and incapable of being loved hurts my heart. This book will make you think and wonder what’s going on in these worlds and why is it so hard to fix what’s broken when it’s a person’s spirit.
This is the 5th book in the Men of Meadowfall series. Where we meet 2 that were professor and student. You cant always take things at face value never know what is hiding under the skin. Ian has done every thing that he can to make sure that his daughter has the best care. the stress and building debt has made Ian self worth drop and feels that hurt with help. There are some triggers in the story so be forewarn. Brad has always had connection to a certain omega and when they come together again the sparks fly. They go down a road that is very emotional and they become a stronger family highly recommend this book and series they dont have to be read in order but do have references to other characters in the story
Love overcomes all obstacles. The old says of 'if it was meant to be, it will be' could be at the heart of this story. This was a very emotional read for me because the amount of sadness and pain that Ian had to survive made me want to go kick some butt. Brad also had a lot to overcome with his father. I love that both of these guys were able to find their way to a HEA.
I love this authors writing and that her stories always touch my heart. There is a lovely mixture of angst and romance that will keep you rooting for their happiness. I loved Brad and Ian together and was moved by how strong they had to be to get their life together.
Ian and Brad have so much to overcome including their own feeling of failure or unworthiness. It causes them some heart ache and near misses. I got frustrated at Brad a couple of time because I wanted to man up a bit more. I really wanted a scene where he truly confronts his father and lets him know how much love he's be missing out. Ian has had to overcome so much and I can understand his fears but I think he needed to realize there were times when he need to move on for his own mental health. I loved the way it worked out for both of them and wished it hadn't taken so much pain to get there.
I received an ARC from the author. I have read several books by Ms. Wineheart.
This book was a rollercoaster of a story. Ian is the nurturing omega, father of Gwen and professor at a college. June is his assistant. Harold Saxon is the department head. Six years earlier Ian had an encounter with a student. Gwen is the result. The plot is complicated by the fact that the student was Harold's son. Blackmail. Physical Attraction. Love. Friendship. This has to be read to be appreciated.
My only wish...that Ian was stronger, that Harold was fired and that Brad had a trust fund!
Stopped really reading halfway through and skimmed the rest just to get to the end. First of all I loved Gwen. She was such a sweetheart. Brad annoyed the heck out of me though I mean come on. He had all this talk about helping out and supporting his family but he couldn't even stand up to his dad so he would back off of Ian?! I mean I understand why Ian didn't fight Harold. His mom already wrecked his self esteem but Brad was completely useless. Second of all, Ian claimed Xavier was Junes baby. How the heck is a female supposed to get male pregnant? Doesn't make sense.
Oh Anna, you did it again. I cried like a baby reading this. My heart broke for Ian and his seemingly endless sadness. His cutting and horrible memories of his mother, his gawd awful daughters grandfather and his never ending debt. He just can't seem to catch a break. But then Brad comes back and saves the day. I loved that he wasn't perfect and uber rich but just a guy who realizes he loves his omega.
I read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
7 years ago, Ian had a brief affair with one of his students. 7 years ago, Brad couldn't help his attraction to his professor. Some are determined to ruin them. Will Brad help Ian realize his worth? Will Ian be able to get the family he has always longed for?
I loved, despite how unsure he was, that Brad was a stand up alpha determined to do what he could. I didn't blame Ian for being scared, but was really happy that he decided that he deserved love in the end. Great read!

This was very repetitive and OTT. Also I still can't understand why Brad never stood up to or confronted his dad on his actions. Past and later. Not that his dad would've changed his opinion but that's beside the point. His omega and children needed his support. It sometimes felt like they were his dirty secret. They needed to see he truly loved them. He let them down in my opinion. Dude grown up.

Ian and Brad's relationship was beyond complicated, with so many secrets and lies it's a wonder how Anna was able to resolve them so early on in the book. I loved how Brad and Ian accepted each other's flaws and imperfections all while believing the other was absolutely perfect. Both Brad and Ian had some serious parental issues which helped to contribute to their feeling unworthy of love. Gwen's introduction to sex education was absolutely hilarious every time Brad and Ian explained something. I couldn't stop laughing at the situations they found themselves in.
'I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.'
i can't say enough good things about Ian and Brad. this was such a sweet book. i love may/december, student/teach, alpha/omega romances....this had it all and a sweet little girl to book! would def recommend this book.
