About the author

Robert Joseph Randisi was a prolific American author, editor, and screenwriter, best known for his work in detective and Western fiction. He wrote over 650 books, including The Gunsmith series under the pen name J.R. Roberts, and edited more than 30 anthologies. A co-founder of Mystery Scene magazine, the American Crime Writers League, and Western Fictioneers, he also established The Private Eye Writers of America and created the Shamus Award. Randisi collaborated on novels with Eileen Davidson and Vince Van Patten, and created memorable characters such as Miles Jacoby, Joe Keough, and The Rat Pack. He received multiple lifetime achievement awards and the John Seigenthaler Humanitarian Award.

Randisi js always a good time, and this is no exception. Keough is a detective in the NY police department. He had a problem and got sent to a so called punishment district. The big case at the time was a serial killer called the Lover, Keough caught a case that had similarities, but he felt strongly was a copycat. However, due to politics and just everybody wanting to make their lives easier, it was sent to the Lover Task Force. Keough knows they're two serial killers, but nobody will listen. In fact, his superiors actively get in his way when he won't give up.

Highly recommended, just a great fast read that just flew by even at 360 pages. Keough is a great main character, and the cases were interesting. There are more in the series, and I will definitely be on the look put for them.

Published in 1999 it had some interesting aspects. two serial killers, a diligent detective, a crooked cop or two or three, a sexy neighbor woman. I enjoyed this paperback I found at a book sale.

While I enjoyed this thriller, there were parts that made me laugh. And I know they weren't intended to. Some of the cops vocabulary wasn't very smooth and tended to give me a giggle as it seemed out of place. And the idea that the CO of the investigation wanted to pin all of the murders in The Lover was absolutely rediculous. No one would have let him get away with that.
