Hendrik Magdalenus Bruna was een Nederlandse grafisch vormgever, tekenaar en schrijver van kinderboeken. Hij werd wereldberoemd met zijn kinderboekjes over nijntje.
I loved the Miffy books as a child and found them fascinating to revisit when I had children of my own. Miffy books are very distinct, their simplified design and colours make them instantly recognisable and are very appealing for a reason that is hard to put your finger on.
In this book Miffy goes to the seaside in a cart with her father. Not much happens and then Miffy comes home again, but the simple events in the story and striking images make this a memorable read. I can remember being really absorbed by looking at these illustrations as a child in the library, I was fascinated by the odd choices for the colours, the orange, black and white are striking and the green is particularly unusual, a dark olive green you hardly ever see.
Ik heb erg hard gelachen om deze haagse editie van "Nijntje aan zee" genaamd "Nijn(tje) an zei". Het is een compleet verhaal met een duidelijk begin en einde. Ook rijmen de zinnen met elkaar. Leuk kinderboek!
One of my favorite poems, Carl Sandburg's "Sea Wash": The sea-wash never ends. / The sea-wash repeats, repeats. / Only old songs? Is that all the sea knows? / Only the old strong songs? / Is that all? / The sea-wash repeats, repeats.
I love the sea--watching its waves fold and break, crashing foam among rocks and sweeping sand. I used to go to the beach for a week every summer. My family and family friends would drive six hours from Arizona to California to beach camp. We'd stake two large tents on a plot of sand, bordered between two rows of bush, separating each campsite. There was a strawberry field not too far away from this site where we'd fill paint buckets full to eat, and make homemade, at the campsite, chocolate-covered strawberries. You could hear the ocean the entire time. It molding with the land, crying loudly, slamming against the beach; always.
I later lived near the ocean twice. Once in highschool and once after. I visit this great body of water in dreams. I think of it often, even though I'm very scared of sharks and when I'm in the ocean long enough I quickly return to land. But to just be near it. To read, listen, eat, wait.
Some of Dick Bruna's best work. Miffy and her father were stellar here. And as I read it, I had a vivid image of reading it to my own child.
A cute little one we picked out at the library yesterday. So fun to see Chloe starting to pick out some words on her own. This is a good book for those at the very beginning point of recognizing letters/simple words, in my opinion.
"I just don't get this. Boring illustrations and not even any punctuation!" (1 ster)
when i was a kid i always begged my mum to read me miffy books right before bed. she found this extremely annoying so she would read the first page and then skipped right to the end and say 'thats it!' life's a fucking sham....
I read this with my niece who is 3. I like the style of the book and there is plenty of opportunity to discuss any experiences they have had at the seaside, where my niece told me a rather amusing story of her dad sitting on one of the shells that she had collected. It is a great book and great for children learning to read, because it is visually appealing. She loves the Miffy books and it is a great experience reading a book to a child that is completely engaged and encouraged to read more. This book is suitable for the foundation and could be used as a starting point for a discussion about something.
I loved these books when I was a child. The text hasn't translated brilliantly in to English so its lost some of its rhythm but I'm willing to forgive it anything because I love Bruna's artistic style.
A great little book featuring the wonderful Miffy. In this adventure her Dad takes her to the seaside for swimming and sand castle building. A nice book to kick off summer.
