I am a huge fan of World War II and the numerous stories and vast amount of knowledge one can obtain from the topic. I personally enjoyed the read due to the fact that it gave a lot of details on the planes, ships, and guns. There were a lot of names in the book and overall a lot of valuable information. I thought it was a nice read.
This is a kid's book, but I saw this for a 2 dollars at Goodwill and picked it up since I have a strong interest in the subject. The story is interesting enough, though definitely written in a manner that would appeal more to a younger audience. It did a great job in maintaining my interest in the subject and I still plan on acquiring more history books on the subject in the future. It is probably a great, short read for kids (as was intended).
An important chapter in naval history but this high school level essay doesn’t do it justice. Very rudimentary analysis and some annoying errors in fact
I read this book three years ago, so I don't remember the whole book that clearly. It is one that sticks out in my mind though. I do not read too much non-fiction because too often it can be boring. That was not the case with this book.
The thing I remember the most about this book is the journal entries from the one guy on the crew. It really gave a personal side to the story.
It is a sad story. I did not know much about the conveys between Russia and the States, so I kept reading to find out what happens. Very engaging.
A good account of life aboard ship in a supply convoy to Russia during World War II using convoy PQ-17 as the setting. This convoy lost two thirds of the merchant vessels. Told as if the action is currently taking place.
