Clarity -- I’ve been on my own since I was sixteen, and I’ve fought tooth and nail to make a life for myself and the son I never planned to have. Caleb is my entire world, despite the circumstances of his birth. Being homeless a second time certainly hadn’t been in my life plans, so when a gruff yet sexy biker offers a bit of help, how can I possibly say no? Doesn’t hurt that the older man is easy on the eyes, and he’s so good with Caleb. I’d thought I wasn’t able to trust anyone ever again, but looking into his eyes, I know deep down he’d never hurt us. It just never occurred to me that I’d fall completely in love with him.
Scratch -- The young woman and kid I find sleeping outside my club’s chop shop make me feel things I shouldn’t. Hell, she’s younger than my damn daughter, but it’s obvious she’s been to hell and back, and she’s still fighting. There’s fire in her soul, but the gentle way she treats her son leaves me wanting things I shouldn’t. Like a new chance at a family. What the hell would she want with a man thirty years older than her? When I took her home with me, I never counted on wanting to keep her. I’ll slay her demons, bury the monsters from her past, and then I’ll do the one thing I thought I’d never do… claim an old lady, then make her my wife.
Harley Wylde is the International Bestselling Author of the Dixie Reapers MC, Devil's Boneyard MC, and Hades Abyss MC series.
When Harley's writing, her motto is the hotter the better -- off the charts sex, commanding men, and the women who can't deny them. If you want men who talk dirty, are sexy as hell, and take what they want, then you've come to the right place. She doesn't shy away from the dangers and nastiness in the world, bringing those realities to the pages of her books, but always gives her characters a happily-ever-after and makes sure the bad guys get what they deserve.
The times Harley isn't writing, she's thinking up naughty things to do to her husband, drinking copious amounts of Starbucks, and reading. She loves to read and devours a book a day, sometimes more. She's also fond of TV shows and movies from the 1980's, as well as paranormal shows from the 1990's to today, even though she'd much rather be reading or writing.

Clarity "Kitten" (Parkhurst) Davis and her son Caleb have had such a rough go of things. I adore how Damon "Scratch" stepped in to help and his regular reassurances that they are safe.
"I can't protect you if I don't know who can come knocking on the door." -- Scratch
While the whole book is fantastic, Clarity claiming Scratch was the bomb! Absolute perfection! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrator is Umi Markkanen who continues to do a terrific job with all the characters.
I love this book It’s a reread for me and each time I forget how much I love Scratch. He’s so fierce but reading Clarity bring him to his knees I love it!!!!
The beginning was surprise, but a welcome one. A homeless mom seeks shelter at the doorway of a building owned by a local motorcycle gang. What she did not expect was this huge and intimidating guy to give her and her son a place to say. The relationship that developed between all three of them was definitely something to watch.
Clarity is homeless but above all else she is a mother and her need to keep her son safe and fed makes her take that helping hand from Scratch. Scratch is quite a bit older than her but also understood enough to give her and her son space as well as everything they would need to grow. He was insightful enough to know that there were somethings that would take time to heal.
Clarity’s trust in Scratch did not come immediately. Instead it came gradually. Action speaks louder than words and his actions were loud and clear. Their chemistry rose up each time spend together with each other. There is drama. Thing about it–a woman, child and biker plus romance? There has to be drama and this book delivers. Between the kid, Scratch’s brothers, Clarity’s past and the club, it kept me entertained throughout.
There is a mystery in here that took some time to unravel but the suspense of it made it all so worth it.
The story is of trust and love and family. Recommended.
Heroine comes off as very desperate and needy and clingy. Knows the Hero for not even a day and wants to get into his pants, very badly. Because Hero is so sweet and kind and caring. Oh well. Hero wasn't badass at all. Who decides to claim a woman with a child (after one day being together) for the rest of their lives? I know it's fiction, but even there I need some semblance of reality. Otherwise I can't take this seriously.
Nice story, entertaining, not complicated. No angst or big drama. Scratch was a good man when it came to Clarity and Caleb. He did everything to take care of them right from the start. Clarity was a nice enough character , she was likable and sweet. I feel for what she has been through in the past but other than that she didn't stand out much.
SPOILERS ⤵
Well, at least contrary to the Dixie Reapers, Scratch wanted to be responsible and use condoms right from the start. Of course both times they broke and sure enough the book ended with a pregnancy. I enjoy this biker romances, the Dixie Reapers and Devil's Boneyard have interesting stories but is it really necessary for all the heroines to end up knock up ? It's getting a bit old. What's the harm in having protected safe and wait a bit before having kids. Clarity had already Caleb to take care of, I think it wouldn't have hurt to wait a bit.
At least this heroine wasn't a virgin so I guess that was a bit different.
Harley Wylde does it again! I love how different each couple is, how they compliment each others strengths and weaknesses.
Scratch had no idea that rousting a homeless person from the front of his shop would change his life. When he saw petite Clarity holding her son in the glare from his headlight, he had to help them. When he knew her story, he was determined to do right by her. But his attraction to the much younger woman was a hinderance until she showed him that age has no meaning when love is involved. Scratch is a big old sweetie to Clarity and her boy Caleb and her affection is something he needed so badly. An absolutely sweet, romantic but steamy read!
I love Ms Wylde's work, she gives us great stories with awesome chicks and hot bikers! I cannot wait for more from this talented lady!
One of my favorites from the series is Scratch. Scratch might seem like a cuddly teddy bear but he didn't become a VP for the Devil's Boneyard for having a sense of humor. He's a bad ass in his own but when he comes upon a mother and her little son huddled in the doorway with no place to go, Scratch knows he has to help. Clarity has had to scratch and scrape her whole life. The only good thing to come into it was her son, but he's a lot of work and Clarity is at the end of her rope. Both of them has each other feeling things that they shouldn't be feeling but in a hectic world and with the danger Clarity has been running from, they end up coming together. This book will make you root for these two, cry for these two, want to jump on a Harley to ride with the Devil's Boneyard while they take down the bad guys, and make your heart melt. Definitely a book worth reading.
Clarity is just trying to survive. She and her little boy, Caleb. She just needs a quiet place for the night to sleep a bit and she thinks she has found a perfect place. Scratch is wondering why there is a woman and her child sleeping in the doorway of his repair shop. When he sees her, he knows she needs help and he isn’t about to leave a mother out in the cold. He has a daughter that his about her age. Clarity is a kitten with claws and will do what she needs to do to protect her son.
I’m glad that Scratch found someone. He seemed to lonely when Darian left with Bull. Plus he missed out on so much with Darian. Clarity’s life was so messed up. I couldn’t believe what Shade found out about her. And that little boy Caleb. I never can understand people and how they can treat children that way. Thank goodness for the Devil’s Boneyard MC and Scratch. They set everything to rights and then some. These two were so meant for one another.
Clarity has suffered at the hands of most of the adults in her life in so many ways. She is dedicated to her son, Caleb, but they're homeless and Scratch finds them sleeping outside his shop. He belongs to Devil's Boneyard MC and this gruff biker can't see them sleeping outside for another night, so he takes them in. Clarity isn't sure of what to make of Scratch, but she can't deny how safe he makes her feel. There's an age gap of 30 years, but it really didn't pull me out of the book. The way they were written made them real. As they grow closer to each other, there's some family drama with Scratch's daughter, Darian. She can't believe that her father has fallen for someone younger than she, but it soon becomes obvious how much they mean to each other. I was happily surprised by the twist in the story of Clarity learning about her real identity as an heiress! I always look forward to the narration of Umi Markkanen. She meets and surpasses my expectations!
This is book two in the Devil’s Boneyard MC series, and it really tugs at your heartstrings. Clarity and Scratch’s story is emotional, tender, and a little unexpected — especially with that big age gap. I’ll admit, at first, the age difference felt like a lot, but once I got deeper into the story, their connection started to make sense. Scratch’s protective nature and Clarity’s resilience balanced each other perfectly.
I listened to the audiobook, and I’m so glad they had Umi Markkanen narrate this one too! She’s absolutely amazing — her delivery, tone, and the emotion she pours into every scene make it easy to stay hooked. She really brings the story to life and makes you feel every moment.
The story itself is a mix of second chances, healing, and unexpected love. I loved how Scratch stepped up for both Clarity and her son, and the emotional growth between them felt genuine. There’s plenty of steam, but also a real sense of warmth and family.
Today I listened to Scratch by Harley Wylde. I have been on a roll listening to her audiobooks lately, and this one didn’t disappoint. The main characters are Scratch, VP. of Devil’s Boneyard MC, and Clarity, a homeless woman who lives on the streets with her two year old son. The book is Safe, meaning no cheating or SA; prior SA is mentioned with no details given. Tropes include Age Gap (Wylde is VERY fond of the Age Gap trope), Damsel in Distress, Instalove, and Found Family, with an Adorable Moppet on the side. I do love the Instalove. It’s fun even though it’s not a reliable indicator of a realistic relationship, but to be real, I’m in this partly for the escapist fantasy factor. The book is mostly romantocentric; not a lot of other plot. But that’s okay. The characters are so charmingly written that it’s a pleasure to see them get together. 🌋🌋🌋🌋, with liberal use of the P word.
Oh my goodness..this si the best one yet. I am not sure if any story can top this one.
Scratch comes across as kind from the moment you hear about him but don't let tat fool you he has earned the name Scratch (trust me Google whose nickname it is) and his treat mentally of Caleb what what sealed the deal for me. His interaction with the child was really made my hearts bust along with my ovaries..lol.
Clarity proves that you will do anything to feed your child and that your child comes first no matter what. She was a good woman that fell on bad tome in which a great many anpeiple do.
I love that Scratch made Caleb and Clarity his and noone could say otherwise.
Fucking hell! I am totally in love with Scratch. He was the sweetest guy. And sexy as hell. Seriously, I love him to pieces. The way he treated Clarity and Caleb. So sweet! I would have swooned watching him with little Caleb. He was the best daddy in the world. So tender. Damn, these bikers are messing with my hormones and with my heart. I now have a harem of hot, older bikers I love. Clarity was sweet but fierce and badass. Her story was heartbreaking. And what happened to Caleb was awful. But finally she found Scratch, and with him love and happiness and protection. And a big-ass family with all the Club's members. I'm so sad the book ended already. I wanted more.
Being an officer in a MC with limited old ladies has a downside. And so when Scratch finds a young woman and her young son sleeping in the doorway of his business, he decides to pay it forward. After all the young woman is younger than his daughter, and obviously down on her luck. But when soulmates find each other the age gap is irrelevant and Scratch suddenly finds himself craving and making Clarity his, then Clarity gets news which make it clear she is more than expected, and when she visits the club she marks the fact that Scratch is hers with the club-girls in spectacular style earning her top marks with all the brothers. A coming home story if ever there was one.
Clarity ran away from home basically because her dad and stepmother didn't acknowledge her presence. Sadly she wound up getting raped and decided to keep her son. She found herself homeless several times, but the best thing to happen was when Scratch found her and Caleb at the clubs chop shop and offered assistance, and then took them into his home. He's much older than her but that's just a number as far as they're concerned. A few twist and turns and then some surprises as well. Happy reading.
This was a sweet quick read, almost read like a fairytale with little plausibility and not the tightest continuity, but lovable leads and storyline. Homeless teen mom meets older biker dude with a heart … literal rags to riches, found family, and she lived happily ever after.
Would read more in this world, these books are a great companion to cooking, cleaning, etc.
4 stars.
🎧 Audio: Amazing audio production, absolutely flawless with excellent narration. Love this narrator. 5 stars.
Another decent read from this author. HUGE age difference here. 30 years is alot from late teen/early 20s to 50s. It didnt detract for me since it wasnt hugely focused on, but it definitely had its conflict moments. Since I read this one after reading the newest release (#6 Renegade), I'm already seeing recycled storylines. Not a fan when the series has a relatively small number of stories so far.
Scratch is so awesome. He saw a woman who had a bad in need of help. Even though the woman was extremely proud but she needed help. You could tell there was an insta attraction. Scratch cared about Clarity and her son. It was funny to see Scratches daughters reaction. Love to see the interaction. Can’t wait to see what’s to come. Absolutely recommend this book
Damon is known as Scratch, whose life and his life with his MC chances when he finds Clarity . Clarity is a single mom who is homeless. All changes when she rests in the corner of Scratches shop. When Scratch sees Clarity straight away his protective instincts kicks. Taking her home and her child to keep them safe. Sparks soon start to fly.
This book is about a very young girl that found herself homeless with a son. Scratch finds them in his garage and gives Clarity a safe place to stay. Their relationships have a lot of problems with Scratch being older and Clarity being as old as his daughter. I think that their love can overcome these obstacles. He finally claims this young woman wants to start a family. Great novel
She and her young son are homeless and living on the streets when Scratch comes across them. He wants to do what is right and help them be safe. His struggle is that she is younger than his own daughter and he hates that he has feelings that make him the dirty old man.
There are steamy erotic scenes. There is some storyline but it quick to unfold between numerous sex scenes. Clarity is doing every page can to be sure her and her son Caleb survive homelessness. Scratch falls quick for Clarity. I'm disappointed questions weren't answered but I did feel heated enough in the series to continue.
Short and so sexy sweet! A 30 year age gap. Is that too much? Check it out.
I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. The narration brings these characters to life. Umi Markkanan has a pleasant sweet voice for the FMC. Her male voices are even very good. She's a narrator to follow. 5 stars plus for her.
Deals with realistic issues and I love the characters. Also I'm a sucker for happy endings. Can't wait for the next book. The past books were written very well and I can't wait to see who's getting together next.
Scratch finds them sleeping in the door way and knows he must protect and care for them. But they must be protected as he makes her his even though they may be a large she difference.
Clarity has had a rough life and doesn't trust easily. So when she meets Scratch and he offers her safety and protection she wonders what he'll want in return. But the connection they have is something neither one expected.
I enjoy the writing style, story lines are okay what I don’t understand is why all of Ms. Wylder’s books are about age difference. Are these MCs nothing but old guys? Pretend there is a nice mix of ages and put some women who are at least adults.
Clarity is in a tough spot. She has a son to think of and life keeps throwing her curve balls. Meeting Scratch, who is way older than she is, was not in the cards and neither expects to fall for the other. It is an interesting story and I rather enjoyed it.
