Suddenly Supernatural Books 1 and 2: Book 1: School Spirit; Book 2: Scaredy Kat
School Spirit Kat’s mother is a medium, and not the kind that fits between small and large; she sees spirits and communicates with them. And, even worse, Kat has just discovered that she can see spirits, too. Now it’s up to Kat and her best friend, Jac, to help a spirit trapped in their school cross over successfully. The question is, can they do it without having to switch schools themselves?Scaredy KatKat can see spirits, but what’s even worse is the fact that spirits, especially the exceptionally needy ones, can see her. As this medium-in-training discovers, there’s really no way to run from spirits, and sometimes being sought out by a whole bunch of dead people can be pretty scary. So when their exploration of the abandoned house next door leads Kat and her best friend, Jac, on a search for a missing boy, Kat’s not sure if she wants to help–or even if she can.

Very cute series about Kat a girl who just started seeing "ghosts". Her mother is a medium and now that Kat has turned 13 she discovers that she has the same "gift". In addition she meets Jac a cello prodigy.
The book are charming and funny as each girl stuggles with the expectation of their particular gifts and the choices they want to make about accepting their talents. The girls don't realize this parallel, but the author sure does, but handles it with great subtlty.
Kat is a lot of fun and her voice is fun and fresh. I hope this series becomes several books long. I'd love to recommend this to lots of the girls who like to read and have it readily availible to them. This is a wonderful book, that beneath all the "hook" of supernatural abilities is really about friendship and discovering oneself. Masterfully done for the target age audience.

Book 1--School Spirit: On her 13th birthday, Kat begins to see dead people, a mediumistic talent she’s inherited from her mother. Kat and her friend Jac release the spirit of a girl long dead who has been tied to their school music room and library all these years. In Scaredy Kat, the 2nd book in the series, Kat helps restore the wandering spirit of a boy in a coma

Good go for upper elementary or middle schoolers interested in paranormal. Think it would be more for girls due tithe main characters. Incorporates correct terms and shows people who have open minds and others who do not towards this topic. Private school
