John Flanagan grew up in Sydney, Australia, hoping to be a writer. It wasn't until he wrote a highly uncomplimentary poem about a senior executive at the agency where he worked, however, that his talent was revealed. It turned out one of the company directors agreed with John's assessment of the executive, and happily agreed to train John in copywriting.
After writing advertising copy for the next two decades, John teamed with an old friend to develop a television sitcom, Hey Dad!, which went on to air for eight years.
John began writing Ranger's Apprentice for his son, Michael, ten years ago, and is still hard at work on the series.
He lived in a suburb of Manly, Australia, with his wife. In addition to their son, they have two grown daughters and four grandsons.
A vast series for a vast continent, John Flanagan really immerses the reader in the medieval with one of my favorite series' ever. Will, the main character, grows in varying ways for various reasons across all 11 books (and equally so in the new book, although he is not the main character). It was very curious and refreshing to dive into a world with completely different positions, jobs, and social archetypes than our own. Plus, they are very good at archery... (that's pretty cool)
an excellent series for younger readers. love the idea of the rangers. Flanagan does a weird switch from fantasy in the first book to travelling the world in the rest probably for the better though. the books still hold up today aswell
This series was so engaging! I don’t usually read fantasy but I easily & happily read through the entire series & I’m now starting The first book in the BrotherBand Chronicles.
Definitely a fantasy read for teens or young adults. But a fun and exciting read for anyone looking for something light to help them get back into reading.
