Christmas Magic on the Mountain by Melissa McClone was such a delightful addition to my Christmas reading.
It’s Thanksgiving day and Sean Hughes is on his way up to the slopes to try out a new snow board. On the way he sees a young woman hoping for a ride to do some snowboarding of her own. Little did he know that the decision to stop and offer her a ride would change his life, and hers, forever!
Zoe Flynn is almost out of money so she spends her last dollars on a day of snow boarding. Lucky for her the handsome Sean stops to offer her a ride and invites her to his family’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. Zoe, whose real last name is Carrington, has been trying to stay under the radar in Hood Hamlet. She is the daughter of Governor Vanessa Carrington who has her sites set on a Senate seat. Zoe never has quite fit into the family as her mother would have liked. The paparazzi were always following her and catching her at the worst of times. And of course, the stories they printed were never accurate. So her mother has sent her away for awhile until the election to get her out of the tabloids.
The attraction between Zoe and Sean is instant but the outcome was definitely not what they expected. Sean had a bad accident up on the mountain resulting in a badly broken leg and the other ankle badly sprained. Since Zoe was with him, his family who were endlessly hoping Sean would settle down, just assumed Zoe was his girlfriend. So they welcomed her into their midst with open arms. When it came time for Sean to go home to recuperate, he convinces Zoe to continue the ruse of posing as his girlfriend and to become his caregiver during his recuperation.
“You’re the one I want to take care of me.” His earnest tone tugged at her conscience. “You’re exactly what I need, Zoe.”
Since Sean is actually paying Zoe to be his caregiver, they agree to keep their relationship friends only…for now. But the more they get to know each other, the stronger the bond becomes. Zoe knows she needs to tell Sean the truth about who she really is but she’s afraid to ruin what is growing between them. She has until the end of his recuperation to tell him. In the mean time, though, she is finding out what it’s like to really be a part of a loving family. They treat her as one of their own. The endless supply of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, and love, is more than she could ever have imagined. These people are who made Sean the man that he is. The longer she stays, the more she knows that she never wants to leave.

This story was just so wonderful with plenty of “sigh” moments, plenty of Christmas warm and fuzzies and just plenty of awesomeness. Zoe is finally loved for who she really is, not whose daughter she is. I loved watching her transform. And I loved watching Sean change from the town play boy to a man in love. If you want a book that will leave you with a smile on your face, this one is for you. Merry Christmas!

He did not have the time to date or wade through a serious relationship, despite his family’s best efforts. But that may all change when he picks up a young woman on the side of the road.
For wealthy socialite, Zoe, being banished and put onto a meager allowance with orders to lay low and stay OUT of the spotlight until election campaigns are over. Easier said than done when impulsiveness seems to come so naturally to her -like buying a lift ticket instead of saving the money for food.
When Sean picks her up and ultimately invites her to his family’s Thanksgiving dinner as his fake girlfriend, it’s a win-win for both parties until a serious injury forces their hand. Soon enough, the fakeness begins to feel real.
I loved how this story is laid out with the injured and the caretaker roles. I absolutely love animals in books and wished we’d seen more of Denali. Secondary characters were enjoyable and we get to catch up on what’s been happening with Jake and Carly. Predictability was low and the conclusion was perfect.
I really liked this one and can’t wait to start the next book!

If you like "While You Were Sleeping" you will love this one. No, the story doesn't end with the girl marrying the brother, but there is an accident and family might make assumptions that aren't quite correct about the relationship between Zoe and Sean.
Sean is a determined bachelor (and tired of the matchmaking attempts of his mother and family) and Zoe is the wild daughter of a politician sent to stay off grid while her mother campaigns for office. Two more unlikely people to make a match, I am not sure that there could be, but sparks fly between the two. Unfortunately Zoe has kept a few secrets and Sean doesn't trust easily. The deck seems to be stacked against them, but Christmas is a time for magic and miracles...
I truly loved this book! It's perfect for a day on the couch sipping cocoa, snuggled under a nice warm blanket.

I loved this sweet holiday romance. Sean Hughes wants his family to stop pressuring him to marry. When he meets Zoe, he does two things he asks her to Thanksgiving dinner and to be his fake girlfriend. it's a perfect plan until Sean is injured on the mountain. In his current condition he needs help at home. His fake girlfriend is perfect for the job. He doesn't know who she is, but he likes her. Zoe was sent away by her family so she couldn't be an embarrassment. I loved this story. It's so romantic. Zoe is a free spirit who enjoys being with Sean. It was fun when she danced in the snow. I cared about these characters. Their dialogue is perfect. It's real and the setting put me in the holiday mood. The way the Hughes Family made Zoe one of them was touching. Melissa McClone did an excellent job. She put me in the holiday spirit. After I finished reading Her Christmas Secret, I was smiling.

This was an adorable holiday romance. The heroine's backstory was not fully explored and the hero rushed to judgment but even with the insta-rapid-love within a few weeks together, I liked the simplicity of the story. Sean and Zoe had to figure out what was really important to them, and who they really are - which can make for some interesting tension. I wish the OMGBAD relationship with Zoe's family was more fully explained, because in the end it was a lot of telling by Zoe and not a lot of showing when her mom appeared. This book was a confection of romance. Not a meal with a lot of meat and heaviness, but not a dessert to be passed up either.

GREAT STORY!! I loved getting to know Sean and Zoe!! Their story is sweet and unique and heartwarming. I also LOVE the mountain rescue theme, it is so interesting! Mountain rescuers have become my new favorite heroes!! Can’t wait to read the next book in this series!!

MY TAKE
Expectations are everything, especially when looking to read a book. Her Christmas Secret is listed as "clean and wholesome." Not quite. It's clean because, while there are passionate kisses, the couple doesn't sleep together even behind closed doors.
However, it's also not wholesome when the male main character drops something so the female main character will have to bend over to pick it up--which conveniently gives him a peek down her blouse. The first two-thirds of the book are full of sexual innuendo with Sean wishing he could get Zoe in his bed or she'd give him a sponge bath. They might only be PG things, but they don't fit the wholesome in the Amazon category. If this were a movie, I wouldn't want to be explaining to my son why what Sean was doing wasn't appropriate behavior.
Like I said. Expectations are everything.
The story itself was cute. In the beginning, it felt like a retelling of the movie While You Were Sleeping with Sean having the role of both brothers. He even ended up with a concussion, though he didn't go into a coma. But the family bursting in and thinking she was his girlfriend? Straight out of the movie.
Her agreeing to become his caregiver was a good excuse to force them together. I didn't even have a problem with how quickly they fell for each other. My dad married my mom after knowing her only 3 months and they were married 20 years (she died), and he'd only known my stepmother 6 weeks when they got married. They were married over 30 years (he died).
I was frustrated in the beginning because it was all about physical attraction and physical reactions.
I wanted to see more of Sean and Zoe getting to know each other better. Which did finally happen. It just took a long time.
Worth one read but I doubt I'll revisit it.

I couldn’t quite figure out why I found this book rather boring because it seemed that the writing was strong mechanically.
The two main characters meet on Thanksgiving and are confessing to “I love you” by Christmas. Given Sean’s history, that’s not too believable. Falling in love super fast makes me suspicious rather than swoony.
There’s kissing in this book but otherwise it’s pretty chaste.

delightful book in the series.
It is a heartwarming & fun story.
Sean, is off to enjoy the fresh powder,
before having Thanksgiving dinner
with the family. He offers Zoe a ride.
After talking, he asked her to have dinner with them. Letting his mom know about
bringing a friend, his mom mentions the bank. Sean, asked Zoe, to be his pretend girlfriend for the day.
When accident happens, Sean, asks Zoe to please continue the ruse.
Sean, only dated casually. But there
was something special about Zoe.
As they spent time together,
Sean & Zoe's attraction grew.
Only problem is, Zoe has a big secret,

I enjoyed everything about this story!

Early on holiday morning someone picks up Zoe and they head to the mountain. Neither wanted to spend the holiday alone, so they enter into a fake relationship. What could go wrong. He’s trying out a design for bindings to snowboard but there is an accident. Zoe continues her day with a ski lift. Sans buddies bring Zoe to the hospital and sounds family welcomes her in as if the relationship were real.

Everyone needs help at some point in their life. Zoe needs a place to stay out of the public eye. Sean needs a caregiver due to a snowboarding accident on the mountain. Spending day after day together things begin to spark and sizzle between them. But will Zoe's secret ruin it all?
I am really enjoying the Mountain Rescue series. Such great characters live in this town. Looking forward to reading more about them in the next adventure.

A wonderful read with all the feels. The supporting characters are fabulous and well rounded. The hero and heroine are funny and serious and get tangled up in a web of their own making. Love conquers all. In one of my favorite scenes, the fire department arrives at an inopportune moment. Highly recommend!

her to his family’s Thanksgiving Dinner to be his
pretend girlfriend.
Sean faces an injury. He needs help to stay in his
own home. Zoe seems to be the answer to his
situation.

It's up for a RITA and it was freaking cold out when I read it. Totally legit to read a Christmas story in May under those circumstances.
This was utterly charming, with well developed characters who had believable personalities and actions. Reminded me a bit of While You Were Sleeping - he agrees to bring her to dinner so she's not alone for Thanksgiving, the day they met, but gets into an accident and his family is convinced that the pair are actually nearly engaged, and she can't bear to tell them otherwise. He does wake up soon, though, and they decide that they'll keep up the charade until he's back on his feet. My only complaint is that it wrapped up a little too quickly - the pacing was off at the end. But I was glad to see that no one was totally bad, and everyone had logical motivations. I hope this wins!

I enjoyed reading Her Christmas Secret. The main characters, Zoe and Sean, are great together. Neither had been good relationship material before meeting each other. Zoe's incredibly thoughtful Christmas gift for Sean is something that I've always wanted to get to do. I love the relationships between the Mountain Rescue team members, both the joking around that they do and the way they are there for each other. The plot has twist and turns and moves along at a good pace. The dialogue feels natural. I prefer clean/wholesome romances, and this one has a little more heat than most of those; but there's no need to even close the bedroom door. There's a perfect HEA. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.

I totally enjoyed reading Sean and Zoe’s story in Her Christmas Secret by Melissa McClone, book two in the Mountain Rescue series. This is a heartwarming, sweet Christmas romance that starts off as a fake relation with a few extra secrets added in. Sean Hughes loves being unmarried and free of commitments, to the dismay of his family and friends. On the way to test a new snowboard part he created, he gives snowboarder Zoe Flynn a ride to the slopes. While getting to know one another Sean asks Zoe if she would pose as his girlfriend at his family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Zoe agrees as it’s a free meal, she won’t be alone, plus she can spend time with Sean and his cute husky. Besides, it’s not like it would last past the weekend; or at least that’s the plan. What wasn��t planned was Sean getting injured on the slopes, forcing these two to continue pretending to be a couple. Zoe agrees to help take care of Sean not anticipating the attraction that grows between them. While helping Sean recover Zoe finds her true self, discovering the real her, not the person her family and the media thinks she is. Zoe fears that her secret might be exposed if she over stays her welcome and her family discovers where she is. Once Sean learns her secret he needs to decide which persona is the real Zoe. Will the Christmas magic of Hood Hamlet help these two find their happy ever after?
Ms. McClone wrote a wonderfully sweet and moving Christmas story that is not to be missed. This story is filled with fun dialogue, endearing and likeable characters and the magic of love. I highly recommend this book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.

This week, I read Melissa McClone’s Her Christmas Secret. It is book #2 in her Mountain Rescue Romance series. Six years ago, I discovered stories written by Melissa McClone. Periodically, I always return to her stories. She knows my heart. The characters, the themes, the settings, and the story lines matter to me. They champion beliefs that I hold dear.
Her Christmas Secret is the heartfelt story of two people who desperately need each other. They initially meet on Thanksgiving Day, both headed to hit the slopes. Afterall, snowboarding outweighs gorging on turkey! Zoe Flynn is so much more than the down-on-her-luck snowboarding chick that she appears to be. However, that is her secret, and secrets always unravel. Sean Hughes is her unexpected white knight, but the knight ends up in the hospital. Sean’s family added 1 + 1 and totaled 3. Everyone thinks Zoe is Sean’s woman. It is a sentiment that they both allow to continue, maybe because it feels so true.
Unexpectedly, Zoe’s secrets are exposed. Both her and Sean are caught up in the subsequent turmoil. Will Zoe run? Will Sean withdraw to himself? Or will Sean and Zoe claim their love? As the base of the hill leading up to the Timberline Lodge he sees a snowboarder looking for a lift up to the top. As he used to do this himself as a kid, he stops. He's a bit surprised to see it's not a kid but a woman, and as they get to know each other he invites her to Thanksgiving with his family.
Unfortunately, an accident on the slopes puts Sean in the hospital, but Jake meets her at Sean's truck with Denali and takes her to the hospital.
What starts at pretend to be my girlfriend for a meal becomes so much more. Especially when the doctors inform him he can't stay alone in his own home.
Zoe becomes his caretaker and the two of them slowly develop not only a friendship but a relationship that just might last.
Zoe has a secret though and the way it comes out just might destroy everything they built.
I am already reading the next book in this series. They have been delightful so far.

I'm so glad I accidentally discovered this series! Set in Hood Hamlet, Oregon, at the foot of Mt. Hood, this is more than a romance. It brings to life winter sports and the hazards of climbing mountains. This is the third book I've read in the series, so I'm getting to know the town and the people pretty well, despite starting out of order. Several of the main characters are members of OMSAR - Oregon mountain search and rescue. Since these are Christmas stories, the joy and celebration of Christmas comes through in all of the books, which happen in different years. The town is known for its Christmas Magic and not surprised when miracles come true. In each of the stories I've read, Santa unexpectedly approaches one of the main characters, while he is on a break from taking pictures and hearing lists from the children. He knows these adults by name and mentions something about when they were children. Then he disappears after making a statement that surprises the characters, since he knows exactly what they are thinking. Is this the Christmas magic? Another entertaining story in this series!

Her Christmas Secret was a fun, interesting twist on the standard fake fiancé/girlfriend trope. Our confirmed bachelor Sean decides to ask his new friend, Zoe...who he knows only because he gives her a ride to the ski slopes...to pretend to be his girlfriend that afternoon for Thanksgiving dinner. She agrees, because she has nothing else to do, and those reasons will be revealed later!

I loved the pairing of Sean and Zoe, as much as I loved the cast of secondary characters in this second Mountain Rescue book. While a stand-alone read, I enjoyed the sneak peek I got of Sean in book one...and cant wait to see who Melissa McClone pairs up next! This quick, easy and super fun read is one you won’t be able to put down!

That’s when she meets Sean. Sean is on his way up the mountain and Zoe is trying to hitch a ride up for skiing. Sean takes pity on what he thinks is a teenage boy but finds out once he stops that it is a young woman.

This Christmas romance fully embraces Christmas. It captures the holiday in every bit of the plot.
Zoe has been exiled for bad behavior when she meets Sean. After a few things happen Sean asks her to be his pretend girlfriend for Thanksgiving but Sean is in an accident and is in the hospital for Thsnksgiving. Sean's friends race to bring " his Zoe" to the hospital. Zoe spends time with his family and feels like a giant fake. I promise even if it sounds like " While You Were Sleeping", it is quite different in plot.
When Sean is able to go home he is on a walker and Zoe stays on as fake girlfriend and caregiver. Through all of it, Zoe feels herself coming out of the square her family keeps her in. She becomes a real part of Sean's life and family.
When the thing that pulls them apart comes it isn't very horrible and Santa helps put it to rights. I was worried her mom would be cliche terrible but the story takes a fresh approach.

A rich party girl in hiding, a man needing a fake girlfriend and a family that can't resist interfering even though they mean well....what could go wrong? I thoroughly enjoyed Sean and Zoe's story, such fun loving characters and they have quite the adventure before they find their HEA.
Due to various circumstances, Sean hires Zoe to take care of him as he recovers from a mountain accident that has left him with one broken leg and the other sprained. The attraction between them is strong but Zoe has a secret that will surely end in heartbreak if Sean finds out she's been lying to him. All Zoe has ever wanted was to be loved for herself and to be the first priority in someone's life. As for Sean, he has no plans to marry but after meeting Zoe, he may just be changing his mind!
