Ed Brisson bring back most of the original X-Force along with Kid Cable to fight a mutant genocide in eastern Europe. I had a difficult time getting past Dylan Burnett's poor art. The story was OK but nothing special. It does setup a new story for the back half of this run that holds more promise.

Ouch...Love Brisson's work most of the time, love X-Force, but this was a miss for me.

The idea of bringing most of the original characters back to X-Force was nice. We have young cable on a mission after murdering his old self. He's trying to protect someone. That someone is a semi-spoiler so won't spoil it here. On top of that you have the X-Force team hunting down Young Cable for what he did to old cable, which was kill him, in the Extermination Event (Which was pretty good). So yeah...that plus a lot of time travel begin to happen in this title.

I was really hoping for just a straight forward X-Force brutal mission. Instead it's a lot of jumping around time, a messy origin that wasn't needed, a dull villain, and some sketchy art. There's moment of fun dialogue, and cool action shots, but it's not often enough. Didn't hate it but a missed opportunity for sure. A 2 out of 5.

This follows on from Brissons Extermination book, as the original X-force seek out the young Cable. I’ve not read any of the original X-force so seeing them together didn’t do much for me in that sense, but I enjoyed this. Some of the Transia stuff felt a bit on the nose and cliche at times, but other than that it’s a fun enough read

This was quite fun!

We have X-force wanting to hunt down the younger version of Cable after the events of extermination but what they find is that he is in Transia and the country is in turmoil as the new president Constantin wants to kill mutants there so they all team up to fight him and his forces, meanwhile the Transians are getting weapons from somewhere and they also have Ahab under employment there and when all these clash, its a battle of epic proportions and there are losses and status quo changes and some fun things with Ahab and the secret villain being revealed and we get to see what happened in the past of Cable that led him to the events of EXTERMINATION!

Its a really fun, fast paced book and delves into the time craziness while also having a firm grasp on the events of present timeline and like its name its lethal and I love the way the writer writes it and shows multiple threats and plot points and does well to explain the motives of the character and address the fallout of the events and also setting the next villain up very well. It can get complicated in some places but still possible to follow. The art work is not the best like its not Pepe Larraz level clarity but I guess with a book of this nature it does its job well and shows the brutality and bloodiness that comes with a book of this nature, so yeah do read it for sure!

"You are acting pretty brave for a man who has just wet his pants"

Out of EXTERMINATION X-Force reemerges .

It's not very subtle..but it's X Force..with Kid Cable/Nathan running all over the place..with others explaining the plot to him (and us).

X-Force are pissed with 'Young' Cable and track him to Transia, where the supposedly mutant friendly dictatorship that runs the country appears to have New Caanite era tech - you know from 2,000 years in the future!

The non stop violence, violence and violence leaves little room for any character catch-up after the events of Extermination, bar will they, or will they not trust Young Cable. Still, good to see almost the original team back together and some proper old-school Cable themes. 6 out of 12

Lead by a younger version of Cable, X-Force are back...kind of. Boom Boom, Cannonball, Warpath, Domino, and Deathlok unite with the time traveling teenager to try to liberate a small country from a mutant hating regime and Ahab, who has Cable in his sights.

Eh. This is fine. I've never been a huge fan of this incarnation of X-Force previously, and they don't do a lot to sell me on them here. Cable's fun, although all of his problems could be solved by sitting down and talking rather than running away all the time. Cannonball's mostly a non-entity, while Domino makes jokes and Warpath yells. They all feel very one-dimensional, as if Brisson really wanted to just write a Cable story but had to include them.

The flashback explanation issue at the end goes a little way to humanize the new Cable, but it's actually part 1 of a 2 part story that Marvel have sliced in half, so it loses a little oomph.

On the art from, Dylan Burnett is hot off his Cosmic Ghost Rider mini-series, but his exaggerated style doesn't work quite as well for these characters. Everyone looks a little stretchy - Cannonball has an especially big head, and it's kind of distracting. The flashback issue is by frequent Brisson partner Damian Couciero, who actually does a better job of suiting the characters here, I think.

Not a patch on the Kyle and Yost or Spurrier X-Force runs so far, I'm afraid, but nothing too offensive.

This is my first X-Force book and while it was interesting, it wasn't my favourite. I've been sold that the X-Force was the grown up version of the X-Men, but if my current interest in the X-Men team tells me, it's far from child readership stories. Ed Brisson is a new author for me and sadly this book is just okay. I enjoyed the characters, but the story was a bit messy for my liking. As an introduction to the X-Force world, this wasn't an ideal start.

Why the 3?

The volume didn't click with me. There are strong moments, but the lore confused me slightly. There are some interesting story beats here, but they are few and far between. I will conclude this storyline if the library brings it in, but for now I'm moving on to further X-men adventures. Solid artwork is let down by an odd storyline and arc that doesn't have a strong backing. I understand writers aren't out to create sub par stories, but I feel the pressure of time frames does. This feels a little rushed at times.

So we have here what's pretty much the sequel to X-Men: eXtermination. Baby Cable and X-Force hook up and fight Ahab plus some bigots. It's not a particularly innovative plot, but it does give us the opportunity to learn more about Baby Cable (and for X-Force to decide how they feel about him murdering Old Man Cable; I personally find their response weak).

The story only gets truly interesting after four issues of who-cares fighting against the rulers of the newest mutant-haven/mutant-abuser country. Because that's when we learn about Baby Cable's origins, where he came from and why. It's a little bit of the timey-wimeyness promised in Extermination.

Overall, an entirely OK comic, but nothing more.

- Look, I get it. You hate mutants. You think that we're out here doing all sorts of bad stuff. Killing people and blowing up Times Square, over and over and over. But most mutants are good people. Like the X-Men. They're trying to make society a better place. They've dedicated themselves to saving lives. We, however, are not most mutants. We're the mutants you're terrified of.

Just barely 3 stars... save my eyes from ever having to see this level of art again. The story needed to be told and is somewhat compelling, but I don't like the art direction here at all. Perhaps they were giving some of the not-so-often-used artists a chance on a book before they completely retcon it with the events of House/Powers of X? Either way...
At the end of Extermination, a younger version of Cable comes through time and kills the current version of Cable, claiming he needed to make sure that the mission to send the original X-Men back gets accomplished. This obviously angers X-Force (Domino, Cannonball, Shatterstar, Boom-Boom and Warpath) and they go off in search for him. Cable, with partner Deathlok, is in Transia, a region in Eastern Europe, tracking down the dealing of future weapons. The whole thing comes to a head when a General in the Transia overthrows the government, hating the country's current pro-mutant stances, and blames it on the mutants of the country and X-Force. Now, X-Force must learn to work together again so that they can save the mutants of Transia and overthrow the government regime.
Cable eventually reveals that he is looking for Rachael Summers, as he owes her a debt from saving his life. He doesn't find her, but instead finds a time portal that brings through his archrival and evil clone, Stryfe. Here we go again.... LOL
This book has one more Volume before the reboot of it, so I'm interested to see what happens. I just hope they got a new artist...
Recommend, but not heavily.

Not great honestly. Art is way too pulp for me and the story is a bit meh. It’s dark, but comes off as a bit simple most of the time.

I was excited to see the return of X-force, as someone who loves the X-men, but hasn't liked their modern storylines much, I thought this would get me back into the franchise.

I'll start by saying that the beginning for a Vol 1 starts in the middle of a LOT of junk. Cable recently killed by his younger self, before the story begins, and X-force trying to track him down. If starting in the middle of a plot bugs you, then avoid this story.

However, after some confusion I was able to push thru and mostly enjoyed the series. It has a lot of action, but also some interesting character interactions, particularly between Kid Cable and the X-force.

Unsurprisingly for a Cable story, there is some convuluted time travel used, especially towards the end. But the core of the story focuses on what makes mutant stories great, a country discriminating against them, but unlike the X-men, this is the X-force, so heads roll.

The art style was great, with vivid colors, and great use of movement.

I enjoyed this volume, and think I will read further, but I also am concerned by the end of the story and the time lines unraveling arc that seems to be beginning.

Great follow-up to Extermination.... Fresh and dynamic art from Dylan Burnett (feels/looks like an Image Comics, a welcome look in a Marvel comic)!

Another pick up for me after a few years off of the X-Men etc reads.

Wanted to read this one, as I loved X-Force back in the day and seeing that it had Cannonball, Boom Boom, Warpath and Shatterstar back, I couldn't wait. Sam Gutherie and James Proudstar are two of my favourite characters.

The story itself is good and enjoyable reintroduction to the team, the young Nate Summers is a bit annoying and Deathlok has changed personality a fair bit since I last read him.

However, I couldn;t get my head around the art, these characters don't look like I know them, now I know this is for a new generation of readers and art evolves, but I liked the way they looked and for me that is the way I see them.

Of course, I will still continue with the story as it's about great characters and my reading whether, graphic novels, historical fiction, sci-fi or fantasy(Yep I am that much of geek) is all about the characters.

Ugh. Not having read some of the recent X stories, I'm not sure how and why this team formed the way it did, but it starts off by dropping you right in the middle of a mission. Once again, the X-Force team is written to be hard-edged, where killing IS an option. There's also lots of blood because that makes it "deadlier". What's dumb is you can't have members of the team saying things like "we don't kill" to their teammates when they just did kill a few minutes ago.

It tries to be fast-paced and dark yet some of these characters don't have it in them to be on this type of team. Then there is what is now "Cable" and you only get an explanation for him at the very end of this volume. It just seems to be a hacked way to have him yet be different than what was before.

The art is also goofy looking and hard to take the story seriously.

This is how Ed Brisson follows up Extermination? This? Extermination got me excited for what this could be. What it is, unfortunately, is a lame "little foreign nation is bad" trope. There was a solid reason for this team to assemble but then they acted so strangely. The only bit of writing I enjoyed was Sam and Nate's conversation. The "surprise" ending was obvious. Somehow the art was worse than the bad story. Dylan Burnett was responsible for the pencils and it was alarmingly bad. This was not a great fit for an X-Title. Overall, a big letdown.

This was... ok.

I like seeing much of the old team back together but kid cable kind of ruins that a little and the dynamics all seem a little strange. There are some really good story beats, though. Certainly more worth a read than some x-books that I have fumbled my way through.

I think I would have gone a star higher if it weren't for the art. It just *really* was not to my taste at all and I didn't feel like any of the characters looked much like themselves (or even human).

The artwork in this run is atrocious, especially Warpath, just bad! Very reminiscent of Umbrella Academy artwork. The writing is tolerable, lots of words at times, but especially issue #5, the writing was just not great. I read this as a means to an end, as I work my way to HoX/PoX (and the fact that Cable/X-Force are my favorite X-people).
That said, reading a summary of what happens in this collection is sufficient, not worth reading otherwise, a very mediocre story and bad artwork.

This picks up a lot of threads from Extermination (where a younger version of Cable shows up, kills older Cable, and sends the original young X-Men back to their proper time without letting them remember anything) and explains why Kid Cable is there in the first place. It also reunites most of the original X-Force to hunt Kid Cable down, and then team up with him to stop an Eastern European nation from killing all the mutants in its borders.

Pretty fun. I especially like Deathlok.

This was solid! I'm still confused by the fact that the big cliffhanger at the end of New Mutants: Dead Souls seems to have been completely forgotten and characters are popping up in ways that feel like a continuity mistake, but maybe (hopefully) that will get sorted somewhere else? I hope? Angsty baby Cable continues to be angsty and bad at life, but it's nice seeing X-Force teach him stuff that he once taught them.

this was a tough read also. I don't think I'm a brisson fan at Marvel. I didn't like their ghost rider run. I did like their independent detectove/noir story. can't remember its name.

cable is a young man working with deathlok. X force aren't happy because he killed older cable, I think. what story was that, extermination?
inevitably they all team up.

the art is not to my.likign whatsoever. I like Boom Boom is back because I liked Tabitha in an earlier 'modern' X force run.

The three stars I have given are for the art; absolutely phenomenal linework and colouring. The plot is either boring or it’s been done a gazillion times. When I start the first issue of a comic book it would at least be nice to learn who the characters are; I’ve read this whole first volume and I still have no idea. A lot of them might as well just not be there.

A cool plot with too much time spend on over the top violence. Not enough time spent on character building. All of the members of this X Force spend too much time talking about how this “Nathan Summers” isn’t as good as the one they knew and it makes me feel like I should be reading about THAT guy instead

I actually liked this quite a bit. I think not because of the art, which seemed 90s to me, or the story, which is your basic fight adventure. What I liked was the tension between the old team and King Cable...do they trust or kill?

Story had some promise and I love these characters, but ultimately it was boring and the art was consistently awful and ugly throughout. Like bad nickelodeon ninja turtles comics from the $1 bin on 2 for 1 day.
