The past few years have been a bit chaotic for Cougars new associate coach, Lancaster Hart. After an amiable divorce he began living his life as the gay man he’d kept closeted for far too long. With the recent move to Cayuga, he’s away from his support system and properly made sweet tea. Despite a roster filled with new friends and associates, he’s spending his nights alone.

As his team gears up to make a run at the Calder Cup, Lancaster discovers that not everything in upstate New York is wine, woodlands, and chilly conservative ideals. At a summer music festival, he first lays eyes on Townsend Harris, folksy/blues singer by night and mayoral office assistant by day. Lancaster is enraptured with the man’s powerful sultry voice. Also, Town just might be the most beautiful man he has seen in all his forty-one years.

The two hit it off at an informal meet and greet after the show, where they spend the night talking and sipping wine. One evening of conversation and an incendiary goodbye kiss leads them into a scorching love affair that might be exactly what Lancaster has been searching for his whole life. Can his team pull off professionally what he’s hoping to do privately as well? Or will capturing their dream evade both the Cougars and Lancaster?

Vicki signs off this wonderfully diverse ice hockey series with a gentle paced romance for assistant coach Lancaster and musician and mayoral aide Townsend.

It's super sweet, focused as it is on a man who has only come out later in life, having lived the traditional closeted married and had kids experience so many go through.

I loved Lan's ex wife and his twin kids, there was no drama in their relationship, just acceptance and continuing support and it was great to read.

And his relationship with Town in perfectly judged, they take their time not only to fall in love, but also to become intimate and the emotions are all the better for it.

This book also follows the Cougars as they head towards a possible championship win and all the complex emotions that entails.

My favourite obnoxiously loving Pole is also on hand to keep things real and there's tensions for Victor and Dan which will be explored in a forthcoming new series from Vicki that I cannot wait for.

So it's farewell for now to the Cayuga gang and I'll miss them.

I have really enjoyed this series (and went back and reread the others after this one.) This is a lighter, warmer story with less angst and less challenge and conflict than the others. It's a sweet story about a gay man who was in a long marriage to a woman who was his best friend but the wrong gender to interest him in bed. They have kids, who are now grown, and he finally got up the nerve to come out and get a divorce two years ago. As the son of a Southern preacher, and having been a hockey player in a macho sport, it was a long road for Lancaster to step into the light, but he's not avoiding it now.

Lancaster is sweet, a bit socially clumsy, hungry to start his new real life, and lucky in his friends and family. Sometimes the conversational lines he comes out with feel a bit past clumsy and into unlikely, but I enjoyed watching him meet Townsend Harris, singer and political assistant. They have a sweet, warm developing relationship, with just a few hitches along the way. There are some fun glimpses of the other guys in here as well, and some hockey action that caps off the Cougars' season in a satisfactory way. I'm a fan of a bit more conflict, but this is a good choice for a warm, sweet read when you want one.

This is a pretty sweet sendoff for the Cayuga Cougars. I really enjoyed Lancaster’s rather old-fashioned, mild-mannered, Southern character. He developed beautifully, going from a reserved, sort of goody two-shoes to showing the steel underneath that made him a hockey player and coach. His relationship with Townsend was slow and smooth, as meeting him allows Lan to achieve complete peace with himself as a gay man. I have to say, I’ve absolutely been spoiled by Victor Kalinski for all other Cougars. I missed the level of snark and sarcastic humor in his stories but he’s still a strong presence in the book; not enough to distract from Lan and Town, even though he hasn’t mellowed much at all! This story had lots of charm and sweetness though and Lancaster and Townsend were very lovable, as were Lan’s kids and his ex-wife. It’s a feature of Vicki’s tale-telling that homophobic characters are given short shrift, acknowledged but mostly in the background and the focus is always on acceptance and support for their rainbow family and team. Vicky Locey has moved rapidly up my favorite authors list and I’m looking forward to reading her future works, hockey or not!

I recently came across Stephen King's concept of "the Ideal Reader — the person you are writing for. It can be someone you actually know...but more often it’s an idealized person, representative of your target audience." On that basis, this is what I'm going to guess about V.L. Locey's Ideal Reader.

She's almost certainly married/in a long term relationship: Town and Lan meet in Chapter 3, and it's monogamy at first sight. Here are their first words to each other:
I found myself looking into deep brown eyes that would linger in my dreams for a lifetime.
“Hey,” Townsend said.
“I love your music and your eyes. Please come have a glass of wine with me?”...
“You’ve got pretty eyes too."

A few short hours later (during which they giggle a lot), Lan comes right out with it. "I’m smitten.”
And luckily, Town admits, “I’m kind of smitten, too."
The Ideal Reader doesn't want to admit impediments to the marriage of true minds, not ever, so it's just as well that from that first meeting, Lan and Town are a solid Thing, with not even one tiny impediment between them.

She likes to think of herself as liberal - she's reading an m/m book in which the majority of people at a music festival visit the LGBTQ stall. And one of the MCs is a PoC. But she dreams of a better world than this one, a world in which being gay or coloured has no adverse consequences at all. None. So VLL gives her that rose-coloured world in One-on-One. Perhaps especially so in the person of the town's mayor, "Ben seemed to be the kind of politician this country needed, forthright, open-minded, liberal, and affable." Lovely.

She respects authority and knows that discipline is sometimes needed. Such as when Lan oversteps the mark with the head coach.
“Apologies for being so uncouth,” I stated with sincerity...
I finished my Moon Pie, made myself drink all of my rancid tea, because that was my penance for being so disrespectful to Victor.

But above all, the Ideal Reader loathes conflict. VLL knows this, and gently steers the story away from any jarring notes at all. When, for instance, Lan came out, he and Bettina happily divorced - and now he's smitten with Town? "She was gushing with happiness. That was my Bettina. Nothing made her happier than seeing those she cared for happy."

Nowhere is this clearer than the tricky path VLL steers in avoiding any conflict at all to do with Lan's job as an assistant sports coach. Obviously, it's a good thing that Lan is at home in the macho world of professional ice hockey, because the Ideal Reader likes a man to be a man, if you know what she means. But at the same time, she's rather pleased that his worst term of abuse for someone is "that hateful pig": that sort of moderate language can only be a good example to his players. VLL adroitly side-steps any uncomfortable plot lines relating to competitive sports at all, and sensibly dials back the emotions, remembering that the Ideal Reader is probably happiest with the angst level found in a cup-cake decorating course.

One last thing about the Ideal Reader?

She's not me.

This is a lovely wrap up for our awesome hockey team and their loves and families.
The Cougars are becoming an expansion team for Boston and Baltimore, big news.
* At 41, Lancaster Hart was happy as an assistant coach for Victor, he's got twin 20 yr. olds in college in Georgia, divorced and finally "out." His house on the lake brings peace and contentment, but he longs for someone to share it with, a companion, maybe a relationship.
* Townsend Harris, 30, tall, stocky build, short hair and a velvet voice, the black man plays guitar and sings, but is also the Mayor's assistant.

The men meet after his festival appearance, and Lancaster is smitten. Townsend is talented, nice and civic-minded, and they talk for hours. Then dinner and more fun, a visit to a winery, long talks, and it's slow moving for Lancaster's first with a man.

We see hockey games, team interactions, Lancaster's hot sexy times, the family acceptance. There is one of Lancaster's family who is not on board, but recon's with him.

It's a happy time, good hockey, hope for their futures, and we are happy that peace and love settles our guys.

It's been a wonderful series with the ups and downs of our men and the other characters, with excitement and tenderness. I loved Miss Lila, what a terrific character, as is little Jake.

There is a Christmas story, "A Star-Crossed Christmas," which gives Mitch and Shaun's get together, plus in REBOUND we get more from Victor, Dan and Jake, so I'll be reading those continuance tales.

ENJOY !

This is the last book in the series and it’s a good one.

There’s Lan, who’s been closeted all his life, but at 41 is finally ready to live life authentically; and Townsend a mayoral aide who happens to sing and play guitar in a local blues band.

I love that they actually go on dates and take things slow. Town, 11 years younger, let’s him set the pace, and never pressured Lan to do things he wasn’t ready for.

Lancaster’s family (ex wife and twins) and most of the team are very supportive of him.

I love that they actually communicate, and when Town has some doubts, Lancaster is quick to shut them down.

Here we have Lancaster and Townsend’s story in book 5 of the Cayuga Cougar series. I got such a warm feeling reading this one, the way that they came together just seemed so natural and sweet; nothing was forced, and I adored Townsend’s patience and quiet support as Lancaster found his footing in the relationship as it was still all relatively new to him – forty-one years old and been married with children before being brave enough to tentatively test the waters with another man. He and Town just seemed to fit so well together and were both just as smitten as each other. It was quite a grown-up union, I think they both were at an age and at a time in their life where they just wanted that someone to share their life with quiet times eating good food and drinking their favourite wine and just finding comfort and bliss in each other; that’s not to say their intimate moments weren’t full of heat and anticipation―they were, but it was in such a natural way how they revered and cherished each other. The hockey action is still as fast-paced and full of the drama we’ve been accustomed to and we catch up with all gang; Mario and Lila and the man of my heart; a certain Mr. Kalinski, who all have starring parts which pleases me no end. This was a great ending and certainly on par with the rest of the series. There’s nothing not to love here, this story had everything and if you enjoyed the series so far, you won't be disappointed.

(¸.•´ (¸.•`ღThe end of an era?

So this story focused quite a bit on the hockey aspect of things, given Lancaster's coaching and all. It also light-heartedly perused the romance that blossomed between Lancaster and occasional singer, Townsend Harris. Quick to love, slow burning yet sweet, I found myself savoring this book as it was the one that ended the series and tied it all together.

The premise was good and the author was able to lay it out so that the reader was able to understand why the man was whom he was and why his actions coincided with his words. Divorced, father of two, finally able to live the life he'd pushed to the dredges of his mind, while coaching a team that was trying to find its place in the minor league. While Lancaster was a good ole fashion southern boy with all the morals his momma taught him, it took falling for Townsend to make him shed his outer layer and embrace all that was waiting for him.

Revisit Cayuga and the Cougars as they try to make a memorable season despite all the drama surrounding the game. And watch Lancaster find love in all the right places.

Let me start off by saying, I dearly love this series, every single couple, their families and all the players are written so amazingly well, you really feel like you are part of the story!! Assistant coach Lancaster Hart, divorced and living his true identity as a gay man. He has a lot of support from his ex-wife and college age twins. Now if he could just find the man who would be the one. When he does meet Townsend Harris, he is absolutely blown away, not only by his looks but his voice when he sings.

Dating and hockey season are hard, but every spare minute Lan spends with Townsend, getting to know each other, falling in love and meeting the family. This book is truly wonderful, I love all the quirks and the love from Lancaster’s family is so beautifully written. The strength of Lan and Townsend’s relationship, the friendship of a coach and his hockey players, the love of a father, the thrill of hockey season, it all comes together perfectly!! You couldn’t ask for a better story to end this series with, it is awesome (even if I wish it wouldn’t end!! LOL)!

I would give this book so many stars, but 5 is all they will allow, it’s that good!!!

This book....

So I did like this book, however it took me a really long time to read and was my least favorite of the series, though the 4-star rating tells you how much I loved all the books in this series. I kept putting it down and having to come back to it, reading just a little at a time. The way it was written worked well overall and I know most people will thoroughly enjoy this book, but some of the conversations and interactions the main characters had were so odd to me, and their mannerisms just drove me a little crazy. Lancaster just had an old-fashioned way of acting and speaking that I am not used to at all - coming from Southern California, no one speaks that way here. In the end, I didn't really get to fall for Lancaster and Townsend like I wanted to. And I am sad to see the end of this series, I wouldn't mind more of the Cayuga Cougars.

Lan was like a Southern belle, nervous about giving in to his urges and being debauched for the first time. Some of the sayings he came up with were so over the top ridiculous and funny I couldn't help but laugh. "Look at me, clinging to my beau like a debutante after her deflowering." I felt like he should have been born and lived a few decades before his time. He was previously married and now has grown children who are totally okay with his coming out and being gay. I loved that everyone in his life who mattered just wanted to see him happy and in love. There wasn't much angst in this book and not much sex happening between the two men. Townsend was pretty perfect for Lan, not pushing him into anything once he learned Lan's background and how he felt about things. Lan and Town definitely took their slow-as-molasses time in getting to the good parts of their relationship. It was a nice slow build up to a real and long lasting sugary-sweet commitment to each other.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fifth book in the series, and I would recommend that you read them in order, but this is also a lovely romance which could stand alone.

Lancaster (Lan) is finally living - or starting the journey to living - as the gay man he always knew he was. Sadly his intolerant father and childhood in Georgia did not let that flourish and he married and had twins. Now he is divorced and having joined the coaching team of the tolerant Cayuga Cougars, he is ready ... but nervous of his newbie status. I loved how we get to understand all that about him, and whilst it is revisited, it is always in context, and often very endearing. The fact that he has the support and love of his ex-wife and children is hugely important too.

He sees Townsend (Town) on stage at a local festival and is instantly smitten. I really enjoyed how easy both men are with each other and the relaxed, yet passionate way they are together. It makes for a perfect backdrop to the drama going on in the Cayuga's end of season games ... with their chance of finally coming out top being very good indeed.

There is plenty of humour, a lot of catching up with previous relationships in the team, and some lovely, sweet and sexy scenes between Lan and Town. This series most definitely bears reading again, as the interplay and growth of the characters and the team are fascinating, and undoubtedly hot!

A gentle end to a series that has thrown up more than it's fair share of angst, thereby providing a nice change of pace.

This was a more mature pairing, in both age and outlook. And I loved Lan's old-fashioned outlook and expressions.

Also we get to catch up with all of the pairings from the previous books.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I liked a lot of things about this story. Lan’s southern charm and his bravery when it comes to his sexuality and romance are at the top of the list. I liked Town’s love of music and his understanding at Lan’s lack of experience with me. I liked that these men really enjoy each other’s company and simple things in life. I liked various hockey players and a coach giving Lan advice about his sexuality. I like that Lan’s kids are so supportive. And I really liked that while there are events happening in this story it isn’t high drama. It has a cruisy feel to it. Also it has to be mentioned that the balance between the romance and the sport is spot on.

So I did really like this story, it is a solid 3 stars. But I didn’t love it. But you know what I did love? Getting to the end and reading that the author is writing a spin off series featuring more Vic and Dan. I can’t wait!

For a final book in a series, I wasn't that invested in this story. Lancaster seemed like a bit too much of a caricature than a real person and the instalove was, as usual, instalove-y. We do touch on all the past characters which is always nice but it wasn't enough to really make this a great book. However, there was a bit more of Vic in this book and some livelihood tension for him and Dan that was very intriguing... I was glad of that. I might have DNF'd this one otherwise. Author's notes say there are new books coming for Victor and Dan that span 14 years, I am looking forward to those.

I loved this story for so many reasons. Lancaster is such a sweet guy, and I liked reading about someone older finding his first real love. I also liked that although he and his wife have parted company they still love each other like good friends do, and their relationship isn’t brushed aside as though it never happened. Things in his day to day life still remind him of her, which is the way it should be. I loved the support and encouragement she, and their children, give him in regard to his relationship with Town. It felt very realistic. His ex mother in law, Marigold, is a total hoot! As with the other hockey romances I’ve read, there is a strong sense of the team also being family which is something that I enjoy about the genre.

The characters and descriptions are the other strengths of this story. I loved the visuals of Cayuga, and those and the characters that populate it pulled me into the story immediately. Although the story is low on angst, and a gentle read in a way, it didn’t stop me from turning pages as I got invested in Lancaster and Town very quickly. I could feel their attraction as I read. I liked the way they took their relationship slowly, and how Town was patient with Lancaster’s experience about being an out gay man still new to him. This is very much a story about connection, growth, friendship, and falling in love.

I’m not a hockey fan and don’t know much about the game, yet that didn’t stop me from enjoying the exciting description of the games either, or hoping some of the horrible bigots on the opposing team got thoroughly thrashed in the final match. I enjoyed meeting the other characters, although I’d ‘met’ some in a short Christmas story in the Hockey Holidays Anthology, which I’d also recommend. I particularly liked Mario who loves the game but ‘loves his woman more.’

I love stories that feature characters who are musicians, and Town is a great match for Lancaster. Both men have personality quirks, and realistic reactions to the situations they find themselves in. I enjoyed the descriptions of the music—it felt very real.

I’d recommend One-on-One to readers who enjoy a gentle romance with realistic characters, family, and a feel-good story that stays with you after you’ve smiled at the very satisfactory conclusion.

A sweet love story but also really hot!

One-On-One brings the Cayuga Cougars series to a close and I was a bit sorry to know that this is the end. So I was really happy when I finished the book and saw a note from the author that she has 3 more books planned for Victor and Dan and Jack.

Cayuga Cougars associate coach, Lancaster Hart, is finally living his authentic life as a gay man. When he sees Townsend Harris singing at a local festival he is smitten. The two men begin a romantic relationship, the kind that Lancaster never thought he'd ever have.

Wow, there is a lot going on in this story. Lancaster and Townsend's new love story, Lancaster's relationship with his ex-wife and family, the Cougar's run for the Calder Cup and lots of cameo appearances by the players who have already had their love stories told.

While One-On-One is the fifth book in the series it does standalone really well. Characters from past books do appear but the main focus is on Lancaster and Hart and the team's playoff games leading up to the Calder Cup championship. The other books in this series are really great, though, so I highly recommend reading them, especially if you like reading series in order.

Although this book didn't have as much of an emotional impact on me as others in the series, it's still a great story and I really loved catching up with the team again. There was perhaps a bit more hockey jargon in this book than I remembered from the others but you still don't need to be a hockey fan to enjoy reading it. To me the clear message from this book is that love is love and that it's important to live your life to the fullest and be yourself.

Bravo to Ms. Locey for giving us a very nice finish to this series.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

This is sadly the final book in the Cayuga Cougars series. It makes me sad to see it end. I loved and thoroughly enjoyed this series. Every book brought something different. This is the story of Lancaster Hart the assistant coach and Townshend Harris. I was drawn in by the writing and let's face it... hockey. I love reading about it. This book has more hockey to it than the others. I liked Lancaster from the previous book when he was there for Sander.

Lancaster is now divorced and been in the closet his whole life. He is a great father and wanting to live his life the way he wants to. He is such a sweet man and has a good relationship and tons of support from his ex-wife and their children. When he sees Townsend singing at a festival he is instantly drawn and dare I say smitten.

These two are good for each other and they balance each other out. I don't know what it was but I truly was so drawn to this story I was reading it all night. Townsend was a good guy and he was the epitome of support and love along with patience.

I felt like I was in this story watching it play out through their eyes. I truly loved the dynamic of everyone involved. Especially Lancasters ex and the kids as I said. They just wanted him happy. The detail was spot on and reading about the race for the cup. I liked the pace and the writing as well as getting to read about the previous characters without losing this story. Still, I love Vic and his foul attitude and Dan. There is such a comradery with this team. They are more than a team, they are a family. I can go on and on.

This is a book of sports meeting art and a second chance at living life to the fullest. I am sad to see this series coming to an end but we get to see more to come with another series as a spinoff.

(4 stars)

This was the book that pricked my interest... the reason I read the previous four books. The previous four books lay the foundation of sorts; you get to know all the characters and makes book five flow a bit easier. The new coach Lancaster Hart hid who he really was for years, having gone as far as marrying and having kids. After years of not being happy and knowing it was unfair to his wife, who is his best friend, they divorce and now two years out of that divorce Lan still hasn't made any moves to make himself happy. Lonely and longing for that one person that will rock on the front porch with him in the evenings.. that happy ever after. When he spots the lead singer of a local band, he knows this is the person that he has been waiting for. Once Lan and Townsend strike up a conversation, Lan sort of stumbles around in asking Town for a drink, thankfully Town thinks it's cute. The two begin to navigate down a path towards a relationship, while dealing with the hardships of having a job that takes you on the road. Will Town think Lan and his crazy family are worth it?

This was a really good story, not a lot of angst or drama, unless you count what happens on the ice. Just a journey for Lan who knew he was gay and finally having the courage to pursue his happiness. It was a really lovely story, I give this 4 stars.

Lancaster and Townsend meet at a music festival at Cayuga Lake and attraction is immediate. An amazing way to end the Cayuga Cougars series. We get to revisit all the men we've met throughout, laugh once again at the unforgettable Vic but the main attraction here is the second chance at life and love for Lancaster with the full support of his ex-wife and their children. A man navigating a new path through life, letting go of the past, and embracing what is in front of him. Townsend is perfect to help him and stand by his side as their love grows and proves you never know what is around the corner. Hockey is a major part of this book and from someone who knows nothing about the game, I was behind the Cougars all the way as if I knew what was going on. VL Locey makes everything so clear and conveys so much in her writing, you feel you could reach out and just hug the characters and wouldn't that be just the perfect thing to be able to do.

One on One is a riveting, fantastic story by VL Locey. It's book four in the Cayuga Cougars series, which is somehow getting even better. I absolutely love this book.

Lan's middle-aged and is just discovering his sexuality. He's divorced and longs to find love again. When he spots Town playing music, he's instantly blown away. No one has ever affected him this way before.

I adore Lan's kids and ex-wife, which is always a fun addition to any mm romance. One of the best scenes involves Lan's daughter catching them kissing. It's adorable, funny and memorable.

Town's a great character who breathes so much life into Lan. Their age difference is fun. Even more fun though is their personality differences. Lan's a southern man who's old fashioned and polite. It's refreshing and also adds to the humor.

I love this series. Every book. Every man. I am devastated that this is the end. Luckily we'll be getting some spin-off books.

This final book was extremely drama free and a feel good way to end the hockey series on a mellow note.

Cougars associate coach Lancaster Hart has been living in NY for just under a year, after coming out to his family and divorcing his wife. His wife and twin twenty year old children have all accepted the change and are excited for him to move on and finally start dating. And he's at the point now that he's ready to settle down with someone by his side.

Townsend Harris is the Mayor's aide in Cayuga and he spends his free time fronting a band playing at local festivals and bars. When Lan walks up to Town after a show and invites him for a drink, they quickly realize that there is something real between them.

As far as drama and angst goes, this was a slow paced, tender story with a lot of southern charm and sweet tea and no real problems to report. Lan and Town took their time finding a rhythm, but it was very tender and the way they interacted was captivating.

There was plenty of action and heat with the Cayuga Cougars battling for the Calder Cup. And, of course, there was plenty of Vic and Dan, which is always a good time.

If you are looking for a super low key romance full of southern hospitality and a side of hockey, you will be wholly satisfied by V.L. Locey's series and this finale.

For the final book in the Cayuga Cougars series, One-On-One was surprisingly no-angst and super sweet on the romance side; the excitement came from the hockey side with the Cougars making their run for the championship.

Lancaster with his Southern manners and charm and Townsend who’s so easygoing and laid-back make a great couple. Lan takes things slow, and Town is happy to go at whatever speed is comfortable for Lan. That means that while both of them seem smitten with each other from the moment they meet, the relationship develops at a slower pace but every step of it you can see both men are fully committed.

On the hockey side of things, we get to follow the team through the end of their season and playoffs as they make their run for the Calder Cup. There’s also a thread of uncertainty introduced with the upcoming league expansion since it might mean the loss of some of their players. The guys all remain pretty focused though, and they keep up the teasing and banter you’d expect from them—including some aimed at Lancaster.

The overall feeling of this story to me was more relaxed, even with the playoffs and championship in the mix. This one was a 3.5-star read for me, and I think fans of the series will be happy with how the author wraps things up for the team here. It definitely doesn’t hurt to know there will be a spinoff series ;-) This story, even given the sweeter tone, is still meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

A wonderful love at first sight story!

I loved the meet-cute between assistant coach, Lancaster and folk singer/mayor aide, Townsend. It was a somewhat believable love at first sight scenario for the couple and the story follows their road to love while they balance their careers, family and Lancaster Hockey Teams path to win the Calder Cup.

I really enjoyed this story but must say I have no clue about Ice Hockey. This book obviously follows on from the previous books and while I haven’t read them I could still follow the characters so I would consider this ok as a standalone. With my complete lack of knowledge about ice hockey, I was somewhat lost for about thirty per cent of the book. Thankfully the main story and interactions between Lan and Town distracted me from being too lost by hockey. Even though I was lost I got a feel for the energy around the hockey games, wins, losses and team. I was able to loosely follow along without missing the core of the story or feeling like I was missing any key points.

I really loved Lan and Town and am so glad they got their happily ever after! Now I just have to go back and read about the other rainbow team members!

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review

Rating: 4.25 stars out of 5

From that review: "Let me state right away that I loved this story.  The couple (Townsend Harris and Lancaster Hart) filled me with warmth, laugher, and more love than I expected. I easily could have used several books dedicated to these two men, their now extended family, and their new journey together.  That's how much I came to adore them.  They were funny, relatable, and that dialog often had me giggling madly away!  Then came Lancaster's kids and grandmother Marigold, and my love affair was complete and seriously, I need more books with this troop!  This is a story that I felt was just beginning with readers, not ending..."

I can’t believe this is the end of this series! I have come to love the Cayuga Cougars over the course of these books, and this final one is a fitting end. Coach Lancaster meets his match in a beautiful singer, and the romance between the two is SWOONY. I loved the old-fashioned and mature feel to their dating and relationship. And as always, I love the hockey in the book. I do love me a good hockey romance, and as sad as I am to see this series come to an end, finding out it is not the last we will see of my favorite grumpy coach Vic and his family makes it a little better.

Cayuga fans will love this addition to the series, and if you are new to it, it can be read as a standalone but I recommend starting back at the beginning first.

This is a lovely story of acceptance and finding what need after years of looking for it. Even though he misses his children and sweet tea made properly, Lancaster Hart is happy to be an assistant coach for the Cayuga Cougars, especially as the team begins their quest to hoist the Calder Cup. When he sets eyes on Townsend Harris at a local music festival, he is enraptured and is grateful to be out of the closet. As the two men get to know each other they realize that together they can have a beautiful forever.
It is bittersweet to have to say goodbye to this team. But they will continue to live on when I reread this wonderful series!

What a lovely way to end an excellent series. Lancaster and Townsend were wonderfully laid back characters, giving us a sweet, slow paced story. The book is richly written, so atmospheric and descriptive. Ms Locey has produced her usual beautifully drawn characters and fantastic dialogue. Lancaster and Townsend are, I think, my favourite couple in the series. The author definitely saved the best for last. A beautiful and uplifting story, well written with humour and strong secondary characters. Nice to revisit old friends also.

3.5 Stars:

This was a slow stroll of a romance in a good way. The pace matches the heroes' personalities.

We get nice dating here between Townsend and Lan. They heat between them is great as is the sweetness.

The secondary characters are well drawn. Very low angst and lovely read.

There are few things unaddressed like the interracial nature of the relationship which I would come up and maybe that they might have more kids so that let me feeling not as satisfied as I could have been but a good read overall.
