I found Attorney at Paw to be an entertaining, well written cosy mystery. The characters, human and animal alike were interesting, and mostly endearing. I was charmed into this at times quirky and at times moving mystery.

I think that this could be the ideal read for lovers of the genre to curl up, with a cuppa and go sleuthing with Chrissy the Shit Tzu and Autumn.

Autumn found Chrissy when Autumn needed her support to get through a terrible tragedy, and together they help each other.

Chrissy is grieving the murder of her previous pet parent and together, along with others picked up along the way, they unravel the secrets and find that pet and attorney can help each other to deal with grief.

If you are looking for a well written cosy mystery as a Christmas gift or as a treat for yourself then look no further.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an HONEST review.

This book is so good. I love the characters, the story, and how the relationship between a human and a dog is portrayed. I also like the representation of mental illness in this book and how the author shows how helpful animals are especially towards a person's emotional and mental well-being.

I was trying to recreate the cover picture with my dog, Leia.

Characters:

Autumn suffers from panic attacks due to due to her anxiety and PTSD. She also experiences survivor's guilt since she survived the car crash while her parents did not She has a complex personality, which means that she shows strength and perseverance yet she has this vulnerability about her that humanizes her whole characterization. She is a character that is very relatable because she has problems like any other person. Yet despite her problems, she is very sweet especially towards Chrissy.

Chrissy reminds me of my dog, Leia, in a way that they are both sweet, loving, and protective of their "humans". She also has this amazing capability that helps her communicate with Autumn, which I wished my dog has because it would be awesome to be able to communicate with her.

Detective Ray also suffers from PTSD after serving in the military in Afghanistan. He has a German Shepherd named Ace, which is his retired service/police dog partner.

Anna is a character that I really despise. She is very despicable and cruelly treats dogs. She is also very greedy. I hate that there are people like Anna in the world. I have seen social media post about maltreatment of animal and that just breaks my heart.

"The lesson was clear: there is no fear in truly loving,

for it protects from the harshest of circumstances.

Anxiety is fear, but love, faith, and hope

are tonics to surmount whatever we must face.

My own Chrissy.

Furthermore, I really love this book. It is a very light mystery book, which kinda reminds me somehow of Nancy Drew books from my childhood. I like how the book shows the mental health and well-being of not only humans but also animals. Chrissy suffers from separation anxiety after the death of Gary, her previous owner. Separation anxiety is very common in dogs and I love that the author included that in the book because other readers will be informed. In addition, once I have a suspect in mind, the author just adds on more twists to make the story not predictable. I cannot wait for the next book. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a light mystery book or if you are a dog lover.

Chrissy is the most unusual cozy mystery character I have ever had the pleasure to meet in a book--she has an amazing talent which aids her new owner, Autumn, in solving the murder of her former owner, attorney Gary Martin.

Autumn is an interesting character as well, as she is grieving the loss of her parents and has PTSD from the accident which took their lives. The author does a wonderful job of describing her panic attacks and other issues.

Most of the other characters are very likable, and I look forward to seeing all their relationships grow and change throughout the series. There were two characters, Anna and Fran, whom I disliked from the very beginning. They are cruel, greedy and totally despicable.

There is a sneak peek of the next book at the end of this one, and it sounds like it will be another thrilling adventure.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, this is a cozy mystery, and while there is nothing that will technically upset readers, there is an unusual link between Chrissy and her new owner. One might even call it a "psychic" connection. I was not offended by this, but I just wanted to point this out to those who might struggle with that story element.

What an absolutely delightful book! This is a mystery written in the classic style with a modern twist if I ever did see one! I simply adore the way in which the author constructed this book. I honestly could not figure out "whodunit" mainly because of the various perspectives that were used within the framework of the story. I have grown accustomed to having just one perspective featured in mysteries, but there is no doubt that Diane Wing has returned to that style of featuring the perspectives and concerns all the main players as well as the suspects. I applaud this stylistic element, and I hope the author continues to feature this in the rest of the books in the series.

I loved Chrissy. How could you not? In spite of the fact that she seems to have transcendental qualities that can communicate with humans on a profound level, I was captivated with this lovely Shih Tzu. This may be the first time I've seen this breed featured in a mystery in this particular way, and I do believe she is the real star of the book. The case is peppered with red herrings and is quite smartly written, but Chrissy is the one who captured my heart. I highly recommend this to cozy mystery readers. And Hallmark audiences especially would love the whole pet rescue theme that is woven throughout.

DNF I hate novels in which it is obvious the author hasn't done even the most basic of research! I was done with this book as soon as I got to the statement that Chrissy was destined to be an emotional support animal (ESA), able to accompany Amber everywhere.

I have been partnered with a Service Dog (SD) for almost a decade and I am a little disappointed that Ms. Wing did not consult with someone knowledgeable about the rights of people with SD vs. people with ESA before writing an ESA into her story.

In the United States, ESA do NOT have public access rights! The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) recognizes only SD (and occasionally miniature horses) that are *trained* to do work or task(s) to assist their handlers with major life activities. Emotional support requires no training and is not considered to be a valid task under the ADA.

Where people with ESA *do* have rights is under the Fair Housing Act (FHA), which allows them to live in no-pets housing under most circumstances, but there are a few exceptions to that. ESA are also allowed to accompany their owners on flights within the United States under the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA), provided that the owner meets certain conditions.

There may be local jurisdictions that permit people with ESA to take them to pets-prohibited public spaces, but those are extremely rare. To my knowledge, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has no such provision on the books.

What a sweet book! Yes there is a murder and some twists and turns. But I absolutely fell in love with Chrissy the Shih Tzu! What an adorable and smart little dog! Her adoring owner was murdered and Chrissy was sent to a shelter because nobody wanted her.

Autumn had problems of her own--a really bad case of PTSD and guilt over the fact that she survived a car crash but her parents didn't. Her Psychiatrist told her the best thing to do was find someone to love. Autumn went to the shelter and it was love at first site--Chrissy and Autumn bonded instantly!!

Chrissy took care of Autumn and would bark her out of any attack that she experienced--Autumn went no where without Chrissy!! Autumn really wanted to know who murdered Chrissy's Dad and started investigating--It did become rather dangerous at points.

And it turns out that Chrissy has a certain power--nope--not telling you--you have to read it to find out what that power was and if they ever found the culprit!

I volunteered to read Attorney at Paw because I was in need of some light reading. I was hesitant at first as I thought - a Shih Tzu who solves mysteries? Boy am I glad I picked up this book! It is a great, quick read.

I understand, owning three dogs, how owners and dogs can have similar backgrounds but who would have thought Chrissy the Shih Tzu would be adopted, after her daddy was killed, by someone who had just lost her parents.

Better than that, Chrissy has some telepathic abilities. I do not know if her first pet dad knew this or not but Autumn, who adopted her, finds it out rather quickly. Better than that, the detective working on her pet dad's case also manages to receive one of Chrissy's messages.

If you are looking for a mystery - I didn't figure it out, pick up Attorney at Paw and give it a read. Maybe you'll figure out the killer before I did. I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

Even though the story is about death I found it to have a happier meaning of support and love that grew between Autumn and her new doggy companion Chrissy.
I want my own dog and I loved the new friendship that blossomed and thought it was so heartwarming and I would love to have my own little Chrissy maybe not in the same circumstances as Autumn though. This is a lovely book for any dog lover and I really enjoyed reading it. I finished reading it quickly as I was intrigued to find out who committed the crime.
The story involved some tragedies, but I thought it was a pleasant book to read and it had a feel good factor to it with the bonding friendships and obviously the crime being solved. I did guess the murderer but no until quite near the end and it didnt ruin the story for me.
I think the partnership between Autumn and Chrissy was adorable and would love to read more about these two having adventures and fighting crimes with the rest of their friends.

For all animal lovers

A great read and a wonderful twist at the end. Really didn't see that coming.
She has suffered PTSD since the accident which claimed her parents lives. Now on her doctor's advice she is getting a pet that will help her emotionally. The dog has been placed at the shelter as her owner had died and no-one seemed keen to take her. The detective would have but he already has his K-9. When she gets the dog she starts looking into the death and her path crosses with the detective. Add in embezzlement, drug dealing, unrequited love, doggy psychic visions and a budding romance for a terrific read. The characters are wonderful and the portrayal of PTSD is done with sensitivity and feeling.

Love is the greatest healer

This book is beyond an extra ordinary read. It gives me goosebumps and almost cried. The story is so emotional. I loved my furry babies more after reading this story. I adored even more the special dogs that I can see in my daily life.

Love is the greatest healer. Autumn and Chrissy are meant to be each other. These two shared the most devastating accident that only both of them can heal. This book is full of family love, friendship and loved for animals. It is suspense and greedy people will do anything to achieved their evil goals but in the end they never succeed.

I am looking forward to reading another adventure of Chrissy. This fury dog is extra special.

Autumn has an inquisitive mind, but she's held back in daily life by her PTSD. When her therapist recommends she adopt a dog as a companion and for emotional support she heads straight to the shelter and finds Chrissy, a pup who displays some of the same symptoms as her.

Chrissy was witness to her pet parent's death and stayed with the body overnight, so she has separation issues and nightmares of her own.

As Autumn tries to dig deeper into Chrissy's background she's sucked into the mystery of the murder and takes it upon herself to start interviewing friends and associates of the deceased. But when threats start coming in, can Autumn keep herself and Chrissy safe? Can she help find a murderer before their lives are in danger?

This was a very fun read, with several surprises along the way.

If you do not fall in love with Chrissy the Shih Tzu, you can not call yourself a dog lover.
With help from a few two leggers, it is Chrissy who is in charge of this investigation.
This book has something for everyone, a great mystery, some wonderful connections, even the beginning of romance, plus a little canine magic.
The author does her best to treat the subject of PTSD with sensitivity.
Even suitable for younger readers mature enough for troubled subjects.

I absolutely LOVE dogs, so when I heard about this book, of course, I had to read it. I wasn't disappointed at all. Chrissy and Autumn make the perfect detective duo. Chrissy is absolutely adorable, and Wing really brings her to life, personality and all. You'll be left guessing until the end who the culprit is, all while witnessing Autumn and Chrissy bonding and healing from their traumas. I highly recommend for dog lovers and cozy mystery lovers alike!

I really enjoyed the calm and thoughtful voice the author uses in the writing of this book. If you are a lover of animals and suffering from stress and anxiety yourself, this book may be just the pick-me-up you need. A great start to the series and I will be anxious to see where Autumn and Chrissy’s adventures take them next.

When her owner is murdered, Chrissy a Shih Tzu is adopted by Autumn Clarke who is determined to solve the murder and bring the culprit to justice. The story revolves around the bond between human and animal, one of the strongest on earth, and in this case Chrissy is able to send messages to Autumn. This takes them on a road of discovery, adventure and of danger. On their journey the authors writing paints an excellent scene and you feel you are in the background like a shadow and obviously no murder mystery is complete without chemistry between heroine and the chief detective.

Anyone who owns an animal will enjoy this story and see the traits of Chrissy in their own pet, adding credence to the novel. The therapy and solace a pet can bring when one is that there darkest hour is remarkable and shines through in abundance in the story. The art of a good story is to keep the reader enrapt and wanting more and all through this book Diane Wing has achieved that as every page leads us on an exciting rip roaring ride and exercises the old grey cells.

An easy read for young readers and adults alike, a very simple but effective story and will have you falling in love with Chrissy and Amber, hoping that they can survive the perils and solve the mystery. I am hoping this is one of the first stories in a series and will be scouring the book shelves and internet for the second one when published. Praise for Diane Wing and her first Shih Tzu mystery.

I enjoyed this story. Although I don't think it needed the strange element of the dog sharing visions with it owner, especially as there was no explanation of why she could, this bumped the book down to a four star for me. Also I started to roll my eyes every time someone said they would have taken the dog if they had known she was at the shelter, it just seemed unnecessary for every one to say it. Otherwise I really enjoyed the mystery and it contained plenty of suspects to keep you guessing and with a budding romance it was a nice cozy mystery. All the dogs were the real star of the show (although I did like the characters) and I liked learning about there roll in helping people with PTSD, it made for a unique story line. I hope there is more to come in the series.
Autumn is trying to learn to cope with the death of both of her parents in a car accident. An accident that she was the only survivor. One of the ways her psychiatrist suggests is to learn to love again by adopting a dog from a shelter. She immediately falls in love with a Shih Tzu called Chrissy who seems just as damaged as she does. Chrissy only came in the night before when she was discovered guarding the body of her murdered owner. In order to help Chrissy, Autumn sets out to find out what happened to the little dogs owner and In the process helps herself.
The narrator was pleasant enough, sometimes she sounded a bit robotic but at others she did some good voices.

Cute!!! Autumn Clarke is suffering from PTSD after surviving the car accident in which her parents were killed. Her therapist suggests that she get a dog, so she goes to the local shelter and finds Chrissy, an adorable Shih Tzu, whose pet father was killed the previous day. Autumn and Chrissy bond instantly and Autumn soon begins to get telepathic messages from Chrissy. Determined to discover who killed Chrissy's pet dad to help Chrissy (who has separation anxiety) heal, Autumn starts asking people in his life questions, including the detective handling the case, Ray Reed.

Since this is a cozy mystery, Autumn and Ray's relationship unfolds slowly but is endearing. I liked both the main characters and loved the dogs. I did figure out who the killer was before it was revealed, but I liked how the author set up several people as suspects.

I found a few typos: one of the characters is named Vaughn and was called Vaugh at one point; the drug heroin was spelled heroine in one instance, and a character wondered who else "lied in wait." Aside from those distractions, I enjoyed the book.

Autumn has been suffering from PTSD since a tragic car accident that killed her parents, and on the advice of her therapist she decides to adopt a dog. When she arrives at the shelter she meets a sweet Shih Tzu named Chrissy that has just witnessed the murder of her owner. The pair bonds instantly but Autumn is troubled by the events surrounding the murder and that the killer has not been caught. Along with police officer, Ray and his canine partner Ace they investigate the unsolved crime but can they discover the killer before its too late.

This is a cute crime mystery centered around dogs of all kinds. I struggled as to why Autumn is so personally invested and wont stop even when her life is threatened. I also hated that she gets "visions" from Chrissy. I received an early copy so I am not sure if this is the final version or if there will be more editing, but mine had dialogue errors and whole scenes that didn't make sense. Ray and Corrine meet at her shop and a few chapters later they "meet" again with no recollection or acknowledgement of their first conversation. It's a light fun read but wasn't my favorite.

I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed Attorney at Paw more than I expected I would.

Based on the cover I thought I would be reading a cute little story with a little mystery thrown in.

I got way more. Attorney at Paw was very well written. A great story/plot. And some great characters. And with all that there is a touch on PTSD and on animal rescue and how therapy dogs can be used. And there is a bit of romance too.

We get a mystery in who did in Chrissy's (the dog) original owner.
Was it his sister who sent Chrissy to a shelter? And received the inheritance? Or was it his business partner? Then again it could have been the chick that had the hots for him. Or maybe even his girlfriend. There are no shortage of suspects.

There are no shortage of suspects and no shortage of likeable characters making this one a great read and start to a great new series.

I give Chrissy 5 paws. I can't wait to read more.

I received a complimentary copy.

Autumn Clarke survived a horrible car wreck the car crash that killed her parents. To help cope with her PTSD from the wreck, Autumn randomly adopts a Shih Tzu from an animal shelter and learns the dog, Chrissy, was the only witness to her pet parent’s mysterious death. To keep herself occupied, and bring solace to Chrissy, Autum decides to find the truth about the death of Chrissy’s owner and is aided by an attractive police detective who also suffers from PTSD.

This was just an OK read for me. I was interested in the PTSD angle, and the dog’s ability to communicate things to Autumn to help her solve the murder. I liked how the detective was kind to Autumn and Chrissy and treated Autumn like something to be treasured, rather than an irritation to be dealt with. Overall, however, the plot was pat and felt like a romance dressed up in mystery clothing. It left me wanting something – more spunk, more grit, I don’t know. I probably won’t’ read any more in this series.

Chrissy a Shih Tzu maybe small, yet protective of her master, now dead. Detective goes and gets his partner out of the car,Ace a German Shepherd
who takes over and gets Chrissy to move,.Detective Reed would like to keep her, and it was pulling on his heartstrings. He arranges for a no kill shelter for her to go to. Autumn needed to open herself to love again, and heads out to adopt one small dog. As she looked at the dogs the desperation in their bark reminded her of the fatal accident. One look at. Chrissy dark sad eyes
and knew she’d be going home with her, The newspaper tells the story and the dog being the only witness it seems. Autumn decides to look into and crosses the path of the Detective. A very different type of plot, and very well done intriguing on how the clues with Chrissy came about. Will look for more by her,.

It has only been three months since Autumn lost her parents in a car crash that Autumn herself barely survived from. Because of that, she suffers from anxiety issues. Her psychiatrist felt that Autumn needed to welcome love back into her life in order to overcome and live her life normally. This leads Autumn to adopt a Shih Tzu named Chrissy. As it turns out, Chrissy has anxiety issues also, making them the perfect pair for each other.

This cozy mystery had me interested from the very beginning. I could just imagine how attached Autumn could be to this adorable pup. Of course the more I read, the more suspicious I was of everyone. I couldn’t narrow it down to just one person. I’m glad there will be more stories with these two sleuths. Very enjoyable read!

I really enjoyed Attorney-at-Paw, the first book in the A Chrissy the Shih Tzu Mystery by Diane Wing. I was afraid that it was going to be silly; it wasn't. It was a serious mystery with some humor and a great twist. Chrissy is precious and all the dogs acted like real dogs; Chrissy is extra special but she plays and fears and loves like so many dogs I know. As a dog lover, I enjoyed watching Chrissy and her new parent come to love each other. The mystery was well done and I suspected the culprit but kept changing my mind because there were several reasonable suspects. I recommend the book for anyone who enjoys animals or cozy mysteries. I can't wait for the next book to release!

Diane Wing's cozy mystery featuring Chrissy, the Shih Tzu, was entertaining and enjoyable. The first book detailed the characters in such depth that it made them seem almost real. I liked trying to figure out who the culprit was by the clues that the author distributed throughout the story. I found it admirable that the author described the relationship between an owner and a therapy animal and how that relationship can help to heal one another. I am looking forward to more books in this series. I recommend this book to others who enjoy this genre. Lisa Negron's narration was pleasant and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Amazing Chrissy

When Chrissy's daddy is found dead, the little dog is sent off to the shelter. Enter Autumn Clarke, a sufferer of PTSD who needs help with panic attacks. Chrissy helps her new mommy and Autumn decides that for her to give Chrissy the help she needs, they need to find out who killed her daddy.
Enter Detective Raymond Reed. The three, plus Ray's dog Ace solve the clues and find the murderer.
I was kept guessing til the end, changing my mind several times as to the guilty party.
A fun read and a mind stretcher.

Very slow and dragging at points. Overly simplistic explanations of main character's PTSD from therapist. No explanation as to why killer did what they did really. Basic and lame storyline. Also, the book ciuld use a good editor. There us an entire duplicate scene when the detective meets Corinne Taylor at her shop...in one, she recognized him and Ace and in the 2nd they act as if they have never met. Both scenes go over her finding the body and discuss missing items.

Another Good Animal Detective

Animal detectives are a fairly recent subgenre, and it is somehow odd that so many different and pleasing books turn up one after another. Chrissy is a delight, with her two and four legged friends. Her unusual skills work wonders
Congratulations to Wing for her ingenuity. I hope to see more of Chrissy and her person.
Recommended for all readers of detective fiction and pet fiction.

Just What I Needed To Read

Chrissy stood guard over her owner for 17 hours after his death and she suffered PTSD. This same scenario played out for our dog after guarding my Mother's body. After reading this book, I understand the damage her dog suffered until we took him home. Sometimes we just don't realize the damage dogs and cats suffer in their lives. Thank you, Diane Wong for bringing this to our attention. I needed to read this.
