Alex-Zander Metcalf knew his life would always be filled with twists and turns, especially living in the public eye while playing the role of front man for his band Ivory Tower. That's what made life interesting and he loved every aspect about his job in the music world.
Living in a long-term polyamorous relationship with a husband and a wife also created a fair amount of ups and downs. Add two rambunctious daughters to the house and you had a sweet cocktail of chaos and pure joy and the unexpected awaiting him every day. His life was overflowing, but he wouldn't have changed a thing, because it was damn near perfect.
He knew nothing in life was guaranteed and never to take things for granted, but that didn't have him anymore prepared for what he was facing now. With his life completely upside down, Alex wasn't sure how he'd ever be able to move forward. But life as he knew it was gone, and it was up to him to dig deep and find a way through the fog with the only remaining “constant” in his life: Chase.
How do you find a new path when you feel so lost you can't see the road ahead of you through the unrelenting darkness? Where do you even begin such a journey, when the landscape is so vastly different from what was once familiar, and the resentment you have for needing to start over tastes like acrid bitterness on your tongue?
Alex must find the strength to push on and find a way to reinvent himself and all the relationships in his life, but creating this new version of himself won't come easy.
Ann Lister is a native New Englander currently living in Florida with her husband. She has pulled details from her years living in the New England area and uses many local settings and landmarks in her novels.
After graduating art school, marrying, and raising two daughters, she established her own video production company. Her nearly two decades working in video production included work within the music industry and won her a coveted Telly Award. Her 'behind-the-scenes' exposure to the music world and her love of rock music is the inspiration for her erotic rock star romances.
The Rock Gods series gave her Bestselling Author status on Amazon. Beyond The Music, Book 7 in the series, reached #1 in Gay Erotica in the Pre-Order and held that spot for several weeks. The last book in the series launches the spin-off series, Guarding The Gods, which is releasing in early summer 2016.
Fall For Me, Book One in the series was a Finalist in the 2013 Rainbow Award. Each book in this series brings her two favorite elements together: musicians and the love between two men. These stories focus on what it truly means to love; love unconditionally, love without restrictions or labels, love without fear or judgment – to just simply love.
Reinventing Us is book 9 in the Rock Gods series which follows the lives of two rock bands, Ivory Tower and Black Ice and cannot be read as a standalone. This story is a continuation of Alex Zander Metcalf, the front man for Ivory Tower, Chase Middleton and Danni, a few years following their polyamorous commitment ceremony.
I don’t want to give too much away, so all I wills say is that it is more of an emotional story that sucked me in right from the start. Of course, I thought it was heading one way, but the author did an amazing job of keeping it real. There were many times I cried over the emotional turmoil the main characters were going through, and a lot of tender moments. The bandmates, as well as their ever present security detail, were always there to help them as best they could. In the end though, I did have a big smile on my face.
There is also a hint there may be another book down the road. Fingers crossed!!
Yesss!! Let’s Rock On. Zander is back baby. Thanks to the beautiful Chase, that man is truly a blessing. I know you’re like okay, but what about Danni,? and I’m like Danni who? Let’s not pretend we love her. I read some of the reviews, and people actually wanted to throw her under a bus, so…...moving on.
Alex faces some tough times ahead, the family as a whole need to find a new way to reinvent themselves. Alex and Chase have always had a special bond sometimes they just need a reminder, maybe a little help from their friends. The Rock Gods are a family, not by blood, but by choice, and boy do they prove that even in the toughest of times they will be there for each other.
Hearing from the other guys brought a smile to my face. There’s just no other band that can bring me such joy. The Rock Gods will be around for a long time yet. That alone gives me something to smile about.
Depression can affect people in many different ways. Not everyone can deal with events in their lives as easy as others, but with help it can become easier. It’s accepting the help that can be the hardest part.
Alex isn’t dealing with life very well, okay that is an understatement. My heart breaks for this man, this very sexy, talented man. Chase is a rock for the whole family, and that alone can put a great strain on a person. Especially when they need some tending loving care as well.
This story completely pulled at my heartstrings. It’s deep, and emotional, but it’s a story mostly about love. Finding your way back from a dark place that you never truly belonged. Chase and Alex were always meant to be.
If you love The Rock Gods then you will absolutely love this new addition. If you haven’t even started this series yet, OMG!! Don’t wait any longer, you’ll be binging, and still be left wanting more.
Not really surprised, Danni was surplus in the first book. Felt a lot of people were unfair to her, as if she should have been ok straight away finding out her partner was not completely honest with her and wanted to bring a man into their relationship. If I am honest these guys were my least favourite in the series and I found their book was the weakest. This book was massively redundant as it was Obvious Chase and Alex were always more into each other, and that Danni was only around because she was with Chase first. Felt it was a massive plot device to kill Danni off and would have saved time to have just got rid of her in he first book.

I'm apparently in the minority here (seeing all the 4 & 5 star reviews) but I just couldn't get over what happened to one of the MC at the beginning of the book.... spoiler alert----- I get wanting to write a book about grief but I'm pissed the author felt the need to use the only female character in the series to do it...
Reinventing Us is book 9 in The Rock Gods series and it's a continuation of Alex, Chase and Danni's story from Take What You Want (Book 2 in the series), so you probably need to at least read that one, although, to be honest, the rest of the series is amazing so you want to read it, too. I have a confession to make, though. I have read all of The Rock Gods series except Take What You Want. 😔 I know, I know, I'm sorry, but the few glimpses of Danni I got in the other books and my co-bloggers' reactions to her didn't exactly endear her to me, so I grilled Tracy and Jaymie, who gave me a summary of the book so I could read this one.
This book is told entirely in Alex's POV and it deals with depression and grief, if those are triggers for you, just be aware beforehand. It was absolutely heartbreaking seeing Alex deal with so much and Ann Lister did an amazing job portraying it. I've suffered from depression, not as bad as Alex's, but I'm aware every little thing feels unsurmountable and sometimes you can't really see things clearly or don't think it's as bad as it really is until someone points it out to you. I loved that the rest of the guys were there for Alex, especially Chase, who was Alex's rock throughout the rough times.
I don't want to give away any spoilers, but be aware that this is a MM story and it was a captivating one. I devoured it in merely a few hours, because I simply couldn't put it down. Despite the heavy themes and the emotional rollercoaster Ms. Lister took me through, there's a strong sense of family and friendship and I, for one, hope this isn't the last we're seeing of this tight-knit group of fabulous men. Highly recommendable!

This was book 9 in "The Rock Gods" series and this book was a tear jerker. Alex, Chase and Dani are a long-term polyamorous triad they have two daughters Alex is busy working on a new album and not spending enough time with Dani and Chase when tragedy strikes. Alex and Chase have to learn how to go on without their wife and raise their two daughters. For Alex it's the second time this has happened to him only the first time he lost both of his lover's. This was a really good read Chase was doing everything he could to keep his family going while he was grieving. Alex who was unable to let go of his grief he was racked with guilt that he didn't get home sooner as time goes on he is unable to get past it turns out before Dani was killed Alex was beginning to think that he wasn't needed so he pulled away from both Dani and Chase he was unable to talk to them he felt that he had to fix everything. When they do an intervention on him he goes to a facility to get intense therapy he begins to open up about all the things are bothering him and how he lost sight of the things that are important. I love the guys in both bands they had each other's backs. I loved that when Chase and Alex did a session together some truths were revealed. I loved that Alex and Chase learned how to Reinvent themselves. This was a really good read this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I didn’t like this one, and to be honest I didn’t like the first book with Chase, Danni and Alex either.
This book ended up making the first feel redundant and also left me with the feeling that Danni was just used as a method for them to have kids and was then ‘killed off’ when she seemed surplus to requirements.
MM/MFM books need to be careful in their portrayal of women, and I find the Rock Gods series particularly troubling on this front. Women seem to be used as either one dimensional plot devices, used for gratuitous sex scenes, are wombs-for-hire, or are seen as being too ‘bitchy’.
I didn’t like Danni in any of the books in the series but that was a fault of the writing as she was consistently a secondary character to the ‘great romance’ (aka cheating sex fest) of Chase and Alex. The way this whole triad came about in the first book was depressing, and this ‘conclusion’ story just makes it even more so.
I expect better from a female author targeting a mainly female audience.
2 stars

I'm not marking any of this a spoilers since the blurb stated what this story was about. If you still don't want to be "spoiled" don't read any further. You have been warned. :)
Good riddance, Danni. You were a raging bitch, a pain in the ass, whiny and annoying. And you had no place in Chase & Alex's relationship. None of us readers liked you, and we are so very happy you are gone.
Now that that's our of the way...as much as I absolutely hate/hated Danni...it was so great and heartwarming to see Chase and Alex get the life and relationship they deserved from the start(all the way back in Take What You Want) without that horrible third wheel. They were the ones that had such a special and strong connection and now they get to have that. That was the best part of the book. I feel bad that I couldn't rate this one any higher since I do have so much love for Chase & Alex but all the Danni this and Danni that got annoying and it really kind of pissed me off. I know that this was the subject of the story but still...geez...nobody liked her. We didn't really need to keep being forced to believe that Alex and Chase were so distraught and couldn't see moving on without her, etc. Anyway...overall I suppose it was worth it to finally see Alex and Chase happy as a COUPLE living on with their daughters.
I was a very lucky girl when Ann asked me to beta this book for her, I totally fangirled out! It is packed full from start to finish, you live through the pain with Alex. Pain he's suffered and pushed aside for years but is forced to contend with when life throws him another blow.
Fan of the Rock Gods series? Then this is a MUST READ for you.
Never read the Rock Gods series? Well then, hop on the train and start with book 1. I guarantee you won't regret it.
Wow... I’m kinda shocked how this book started off. It literally just jumped right into their relationship problems. And I have to be honest here. I was kinda upset. Danni and Chase knew going into this relationship that Alex had a career. A very high demanding career. One that allowed both Chase and Danni to live a very nice comfortable lifestyle. Basically... They knew it wasn't going to easy being with Alex.
Were there going to be times when he wasn’t present because he had to work... yes! But to go full force with telling him he’s not pulling his weight in the relationship. And Chase throwing in Alexs face that he’s been keeping Danni fulfilled was such a low blow.
Like I said above. I was shocked to see how this book started. I just finished reading Forever at Sunrise. And I didn’t even see the problems with them in that book. So... it’s kinda crazy how bad things got with them. I re-read my review from Take What You Want and I had so many feeling coming back to me about them all. But the number one feeling I had was once again was Alex was second best to Danni and Chase. And I think he never really got over that feeling ever with them.
What happened in this book was so sad and shocking. I honestly didn’t see what happened coming. I could understand why Alex spiraled out of control. He didn’t have a very good conversation with Danni. Add what happened. He was feeling the weight of everything pretty hard.
I liked how Chase was there to help and encourage him to move on. To never forget for the sake of their family. To find a way to see past the grief and be present in his life and their girls.
This book was so sad. I felt bad for Chase.... because it felt like he couldn’t grieve properly. He had to be on 24/7 for the girls. He had to be there for Alex too. Help him past all his sadness and depression.... and be there for him. He was only able to grieve here and there. But he really fought for Alex. He never gave up on him. He did what he had to do to save Alex and his family.
I was happy too see everyone from past books come together. They really needed the help.
This book was sad. I can’t even imagine this happening. Such a random thing. But I’m glad I read it to see the love this couple had for each other and that if you really love someone.... you fight for them.

(This same review is on my blog Goodreads account.)
This is not going to be an easy review to write, because to not give away any spoilers, it has to be extremely vague.
Rock Gods is one of my all time favorite series’, and Reinventing Us, was an amazing addition to it. The story is well-written and filled with so much emotion: Guilt, grief, anger, depression, frustration, but most of all, family, friendship, healing and love.
The love between these guys was so palpable I could feel it coming off the pages at me. They were amazing together in Take What You Want and the author manages to recapture the electrical chemistry between them here.
I loved getting to catch up with all the guys in Ivory Tower and Black Ice, as well as their security guys and I’m interested to learn much more about the new guy to join them, Bronx. I can’t wait to read his story.
I dug in as soon as this ARC hit my iPad and, as much as real life would allow, didn’t put it down until it was complete. Reinventing Us was another fabulous novel from Ms. Lister that was enjoyable and definitely recommendable and I’ll be sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what’s to come next!

I've read all the rock Guy books but I feel this one is super emotional. I don't want to give away the plot but I was surprise. The emotion that Alex exhibit during this crisis was so heartwrenching at times I had put the book down and walk away cause the emotion was so raw I love how Chase became a true partner to Alex during the crisis and the emotion that Chase has an endure while Alex fell apart. This book is definitely worth the reread
Thank you Ann for this book. I just lost a few people over the last few years and to see Alex work through his grief and come out on the other side was inspiring. I loved seeing the all the characters from Black Ice and Ivory Tower. This book was sad but I was happy seeing Chase and Alex go on to have an HEA despite the tragedy. This was such a wonderful story
Very intense book to read. Very well written. Honestly, I didn't expect this story line. I've missed all the guys and really glad more books are going to be written about them. Through out reading this book, I kept feeling like this book was written from a personal experience. It was beautifully written from the heart about how love will get us through anything, how fighting our way back can be done and we're not alone.
This book was a bit of a gut punch. I was wary going into reading it but I’m glad I read it. It was a moving book. The coming together. The love. As much as my heart broke is was mended by the end. It’s a must read for all the fans of the Rock God series!
this book tried to break me.. all the feels.. all the emotions.. the heartbreak.. the sadness and the happiness.. it had everything and it is just wow and perfect and holy crap. lol you must read the others to get this one in its true form. amazing just amazing
I’ll write my full review after release day, so I won’t give away spoilers even though I don’t mean to. All I have to say for now is.......
Just fucking BRILLIANT!!!
Now that it’s release day I can finish my Review.
Ann Lister seriously put me through the ringer. I cried my eyes out. So fair warning you’re going to need tissues and a bottle of whiskey to get through this book.
Alex and Chase just ripped my heart out. I kind of figured it out with the blurb about Danni but I was hoping I was wrong. You will feel every emotion that Alex and Chase do. It was just heartbreakingly beautiful
Of course we get to hear from the other band members which was a treat and put a smile of my face. I can’t wait for another book about these guys. Hopefully we get Bronx next!
Well this is the kind of book that if a review is written wrong it’s going to give spoilers and I don’t want that to happen and I am sure Ann wouldn’t either.
Let’s just say you are going to go on one emotional roller coaster. You will get to revisit with our favorite rockers and friends. You’ll cry. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry again. You’ll get to revisit with those innocent little girls this family loves with all their heart
I’m not going into this book I do not do spoilers and with this book I feel you need to go in and read blind.
I’m not going to lie, you will cry 😢 it’s sad u see from the blurb but the writing and flow of this story was nothing less than brilliant. Ann Lister writes from the heart and this book proved that ten fold it shows us that from tragedy real love can prevail and we can survive.
I absolutely loved that we got to re visit with all the members of the Rock Gods from Black Ice and Ivory Tower they all played such an outstanding part in the healing process especially for Alex.
Ann you out did yourself with this book it has become my favorite of the series it’s flawless and I give you so much respect and credit to write such a deep emotional read oh and you gave me a lot of my Wheland in here too lol , but seriously seeing Alex and learning how he’s been feeling all along and how he dealt with it and the love of Chase is absolutely remarkable.
This deserves so much more than 5 stars and I can’t wait to get more stories from my favorite rockers. Keep on Rocking
Alex and Chase have always been my favorite, but I just didn’t feel it in this book. There was so much potential to this story and I feel let down. I’m going to part ways with Ms. Lister at this point. I still own 3 Guarding the Gods books that I have bought and not read. Those will go on the back burner for a while.
I couldn’t be more disappointed. I have liked this series but the writing in this particular book was phoned in. I didn’t recognize Alex, Danni, or Chase’s characters. So many inconsistencies in dialogue, thought processes. Everything felt forced and box-checking.
I have been friends, with Ann Lister for a long time and never would I have imagined she would go this way. If you are a super fan of the ROCK GODS SERIES then you are in for the most emotional, riveting, romantic journey you will ever read.
Sorta just speechless, I actually started this book on release day and managed to make it through the prologue and halfway through chapter one when I simple had to walk away. Today, with my emotions intact I started again and once again I was just not prepared at all for where this story was going. I was totally floored and never expected this overwhelming plot. I managed to finish it with the help of Kleenex, Cigarettes and Wine. I will tell you my son and husband think I am crazy after seeing me read this story because of the tears I cried. I won't tell you anything that spoils this beautifully written story. I have always loved these characters and Alex, Danni and Chase do not disappoint in this read. I am still not sure how to exactly write a review on a story that I hated and loved so much. Ms. Lister managed to give these characters so much depth. She managed to pull me into everyone one of my "feels". The pure love that Chase shows in this story was magical. Alex broken was so hard for me to read but it was so exquisitely written with such grace and poise. As usual the sex scenes are gripped with emotion and hot as hell. I was fanning several times. It was so good seeing the incorporation of both bands in this story and it just goes to show you that we all have blood that is family and family that isn't blood. Let me say this also the Lyrics that Ann Lister wrote for this Rock Gods book were absolutely spot on. I think she should release a book of all the sheet music she has used in this series. It is for sure one of my favorite parts in this book and in all the previous Rock Gods books.
I know this review isn't my best one but I can't seem to find the right words to say that will do justice to how seriously special this book is. I can only say if you haven't read it or any of the Rock God Series then you are truly missing out.
This is the most MAGNIFICENT GIFT OF TRIBUTE I have ever read. Book #9 REINVENTING US is the BEST book so far in this AMAZING ROCK GODS SERIES. This is a story of the greatest, deepest heartbreak. This is a story written from a true, experienced heart, that had been shattered by true tragedy and pain. But this is not a tragic tale. It's a gift of True Love, Inspiration, Hope and Clarity. Of Honoring Loved Ones. Of Loving those around you enough to step away from yourself and ASK for help, when your burden becomes TOO much. YOU are here, not as punishment. But because your journey here is not over, their are things left for you to do. This story revolves around three original, precious characters. Alex, Danni and Chase our triad. Through this AMAZING story, their relationship had cracks and troubled times but their Love for Each Other never wavered. This IS a MAGNIFICENT story, that has inspired me to seek grief counseling for the passing of my Mom and Sister. It took this AMAZING story TO show me, I'll never be bigger than this pain. Thank You Ann MacConnell Lister, for sharing Alex's pain and deep suffering to help open MY eyes. This is a BOOK I will NEVER FORGET. I Thank You for this Beautiful, Loving, Precious, Tribute to a Wonderful, Funny, Carefree, Devilish Lady that will FOREVER be linked to you, that WE ALL LOVE AND MISS. Thank You. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK EVEN IF YOU'VE NEVER READ ANY OF THE OTHER BOOKS. BUT I DO HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS REMARKABLE ROCK GODS SERIES!!!!!!
I was hoping that this book would fix the problems the previous book featuring these characters had, instead, the author decided not to address the problems at all and ooffed the heroine. I'm pretty sure in a romance we need both the H & h alive. This book being a menage isn't an excuse, characters aren't interchangeable or seen as backups. Each person should have purpose and value and that should be shown in the writing.
This aside, what annoyed me the most about this book was the inconsistencies, too many things don't make a lot of sense. Alex is a famous musician and rich. Don't they have a driver? Why can only Alex or Chase pick up Danni?
They live in an affluent neighborhood and a burglar just so happens to break in a kill Danni? Not saying this can't happen but it's really hard to swallow. Anything or person who looks like they don't belong in a rich neighborhood would stand out like a beacon and the police would probably be notified. Where is their security detail? Why would Danni need to leave the gate open? What was the benefit/ purpose of opening the gate?
The way the author handled Danni's death it almost felt like Chase and Alex were happy she was dead. There is something very offputting about the portrayal and use of Danni's character in both books. I'm hoping it's just bad character development, but if it isn't I hope this author refrains from writing female characters as they come off as tools and somehow worthless (Hello 1800s).
After the prologue and chapter 1, I just couldn't find the urge to continue readings this.

I honestly don't know how to start this. Reading the Rock God series and Guarding the God series you become so invested in the characters. Ann has a way of creating true emotional connections her readers feel with the characters. A signs of a great author is when the characters become real to a degree.
I admit after reading the first chapter I had to put the book down. My heart broke. But every story has a journey. This book truly encompassed real life trials and the efforts it takes to overcome. All the characters we have grown to love in both series over the years are there lending strength. While this book focuses on Alex and Chase every character played an emotional part.
I can only imagine as an author Ann as she wrote this book. She wrote it with Grace and the delicacy it deserved. While yes we do meet a new character or two and say goodbye or see you here and there to some the foundation of Ivory Tower and Black Ice remains strong. The family bonds they have built throughout the years showed. I am excited to see what the future holds for all the characters including the surprise eluded for our Black Ice men
Thank you Ann for giving us a wonderful look into Alex and his world in a different way. I can't wait to see what happens next.
