An extremely detailed history of Antigua, spanning its early settlement by the Ciboney and later Arawak people, Codrington's establishment of Betty's Hope as the slave-driven powerhouse of the Caribbean sugar industry, and the more recent rise to power of politician V.C. Bird. This is, by no means, light reading. However, those looking for unprecedented historical depth will forgive the book's lack of literary flare and find themselves impressed by the thorough delivery of this alluring nation's past.

Unless you have a profound interest in the intimate history of Antigua, don't read this book. It's really for graduate students studying the politics/economy/society of the region. Not for the casual reader.
