Author's note: This novel is meant to be read after book 10 of the Latvala Royals series.
It has been two decades since full-scale war visited Latvala's shores. The threat from larger powers has existed for years, a threat Sander has thus far successfully avoided. But while recovering from a brutal winter, Sander finds himself summoned to Imatra after King Aleksi calls for aid. There have been attacks at the border and Aleksi fears the worst. In the middle of helping his brethren rout out the invaders, Sander receives a message he'd hoped to avoid: Latvala and Somero are also under attack.
On the flight back to Kallaster Castle, disaster strikes.
The plane is going down.
Sander, Mattias, Leander and Jeremiah's lives hang in the balance.
While the men fight for survival, Elias assumes control of Latvala's throne and plots to conquer the enemy. The time for him to step into the role of king is at hand.
Will Elias and his family succeed in defending their country? Or is the time of Latvala at an end? Find out if the Ahtissari's prevail and whether Chey winds up at the altar a second time in Darkest Hour, book 11 in the Latvala Royals series.

Danielle Bourdon did it again! I was completely hooked from the beginning and couldn't take my eyes off this book! I don't want to give anything away but I can talk you over you stay reading you do not want to put the book down. I can't wait to read more suspense from this series! I wish that a producer would pick up this series because I would love to see how the characters look and have the story come to life!
Kind of disappointed, the last few books Wynn, Leander’s wife was never mentioned. She should have been at Chey’s side when all the troubles were going on. Matthias’s is never mentioned by her name anymore, you never hear if they had kids. Ahsan & Chayton became non-entities. , Ahsan was mentioned in one book after his own then never again. Chayton was lost even before that. In rounding out the series, I hoped they would at least appear at the final ceremony, but they were never mentioned again. Jeremiah was kind of left out of everything. Would have liked his story, or Caspian or the rest of the kids.
I loved this series from the start. I read all the books in a matter of a month. This is a page turner as were the others but the emotions in this one are a notch above. Just fabulous writting amd story telling of a familly we have grown to love. Thank you to Danielle Bourdon for such an amazing ride.
I love all of the Latvala Royals books! I just reread the first 6 books and then read the last 5 books for the first time. I noticed that the author uses the word "proverbial" a LOT! Way too much in my opinion. But that's just me nitpicking.
I couldn't put it down. It kept me on the edge of my seat from the first chapter. One chapter brought me to tears as I held my breath while reading the next chapter. My favorite series of Danielle's works. Kudos to you!
I have read this series several times. Every time a new book comes out I reread the series. I love everything about this book. As if Sander and Chey haven’t been through enough, now the “Russians” . Couldn’t wait for ending and was very sad when it ended. Everyone should read whole series.
