He is Earth, she is Air, together they catch Fire....
Mariah lives off the grid by waitressing, weaving ghostcatchers to send Hillvale’s ghosts across the veil, and keeping clear of electronics that haunt her—until the day her friend and mentor, Crazy Daisy, is murdered, and Mariah goes on the hunt for a killer.
Her prime suspect is geologist Keegan Ives. Mysteriously arrived from the UK, he was present when Daisy died, and he’s too handsome to believe—not that Mariah takes a dim view of guys lately or anything.
Searching for missing journals to prove his family’s innocence in a corporate scandal, Keegan knows he must befriend the locals. He didn’t realize that would involve the paranormal until he’s in too deep, and the waitress haunting his days—and nights—reveals that her energy is dangerous, not just to computers but to his peace of mind.
Following clues left by Daisy and Hillvale’s past, Keegan and Mariah are caught in a whirlwind of crystals, power, and cyber-fraud. If they survive, will their world be changed for better—or worse?

Crystal Vision is the third book in the Crystal Magic trilogy which brings the Malcolm and Ives gifts to the modern day. Based in Hillvale, CA, a town full of entertaining eccentrics and ghosts, this final story completes the saga of the mystery of the crystals which are used in art but can bring evil to the artist. This book centers around Mariah and Keegan who are drawn together in their search for answers after the murder of Daisy, the only person Mariah considered “family” and who kept her grounded and away from her impulses. Mariah is hiding her true identity, but Hillvale is a place where secrets abound and she is not pressed to reveal her past. She spends her days creating and cleaning ghostcatchers and working at the diner. She has the gift of telepathy and one mystery about her is finally answered in this story – why are computers off limits to her? Geologist and mineralogist Keegan Ives and has the ability to determine crystalline structure with his hands but needs to learn how to spot the reason for some of the rocks evil essence. He is in Hillvale to try to find journals from the 1700s which were stolen from his library in Scotland and to find a way to prove his father is not guilty of fraud. Who discovered the deceit in their business and who was behind the greed which engineered the fraud? I highly recommend Crystal Vision as it is a fast moving read and will keep your attention with love, mystery, humor and fighting an unknown evil. It has numerous twists and turns in both the plot and family dynamics and I enjoyed the eccentricities of characters we have gotten to know through the series. The books contains a number of characters with stories still to tell, so I hope Patricia Rice has those stories coming in the future. Crystal Vision can be read as a stand-alone, but so much of the story is intertwined with Sapphire Nights and Topaz Dreams that I would recommend reading them in order.
Evil…is it in the crystals, the soil, the people, the vortex or something else that lurks in Hillvale? It may take a few more books to find out for sure but I am eager to read each and every one of them because each builds on the previous one creating a community of people that pull together, is a bit odd, and has paranormal “Lucys” as well as non-paranormal “Nulls” that populate the town. With murders, avarice, squabbles, mysteries and more to contend with each book provides a bit more of the past as those in the present do their best to be their best while being caretakers of the land and all that is within it so that there will be a future for Hillvale.
In this book Mariah and Keegan, each with secrets, spend time together working to solve some crystal mysteries and manage to thwart evil doers with the help of friends in the community. Characters from previous books make an appearance and well…I had a good time reading and catching up with everyone while watching this unlikely couple find a way toward their own HEA. I am eager to find out what will happen in book four and wonder who will find their partner within its pages.
Did I like this book? Yes Will I read more in the series? Definitely Did Keegan and Maria deserve their HEA? Without a doubt ;)
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Crystal Vision is book 3 in the series that revolves around Hillvale, home of the lucies and some wicked crystals. When a Lucy is murdered, the town is on the hunt for the murderer in their midst while continuing the search for the truth behind the crystals and the town murals . Ghost catcher and hiding hacker, Mariah must use some of her magical ability to uncover the truth. Throw in a handsome, Scottish Ives (yes those Ives from Mrs. Rice's other books) for some extra special abilities and some romance. Full of suspense and the paranormal, the story flows quickly for another great chapter in the Hillvale story with a promising HEA. The book should be read in order for the full enjoyment and backstory of the Lucies and Hillvale and to understand why the series is so addicting. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy.
In this story we find out why Mariah is hiding out in Hillvale and see a man pierce her emotional armour. We also catch up with Sam and Walker, Theo and Kurt and many of the other characters met in books 1 and 2. Hillvale is a strange town, with strange people; gradually as the series progresses from book to book we are learning of individuals abilities and their back stories. Whilst this story (like the others) is complete in itself and focuses on a different couple, individuals met in the earlier books are entwined within the story. It is therefore recommended that you read the novels in order of publication. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I like all of the characters. They are all a little odd but are working to help their dying town. I was happy to learn Mariah's story and meet Keegan. When one of their beloved Lucys is killed, the Lucys try to find out who would do such a thing. Mariah is sure that Keegan is a great, big Null. But when she is around him, he centers her. She is so tempted to get on the internet and research Keegan and his family, but she can't touch a computer. It will only lead to disaster. Keegan is there to look for some journals that went missing from his family's library, but he can't let anyone know that. It turns out that he isn't such a Null after all and he and Mariah join together to not only find the killer, but to find the answer to the mystery of the crystals.
For me, this was not as good as book 1 or book 2. The author made a "jab" at the United States, where she lives and enjoys all its freedoms and opportunities. I got pretty miffed about that. At the end of the book, someone stated that a town/city owning land was "socialism". That's silly; lots of municipalities own land. This book was full of this family name and that family name ad infinitum. Confusion reigned supreme. For me, the book was very, very SLOW. I kept picking it up and putting it down. Very hard to follow. The only part of the book I really liked was the tie-in to the Malcolms. The story just did not tie-in to itself well. The worst part was Sam's mom Susannah. She seems to be a total waste of skin.
Hmm, a bit of romantic suspense with some fantasy involving crystals imbued with magical powers. Our very likable hunky hero is fully aware of his paranormal talents and is therefore more accepting of the Hillvale weirdness. The heroine has very valid reasons to be suspicious, but cannot deny her attraction to Keegan. Hey, why should she? Characters from the prevous books play more than background roles, which is nice. However, this can be read as a stand-alone, but why miss out on books 1 and 2? 4* for I really liked it!
The third book of the Crystal Magic series definitively tied in to the previous Magical Malcolm series more than any of the other books. The other books hinted at a connection and danced around the specifics, but this book flat out confirmed the connection in no uncertain terms. Fortunately, you don't need to be at all familiar with the previous series to become fully engrossed in this current work. I know it's supposed to be the end of a trilogy, but it feels like Hillvale has many more stories to tell.
Hillvale is the place people with unusual abilities go to hide out. Mariah is hiding from the people she exposed with her computer talent and is suspicious of outsider Keegan Ives who arrives on the scene just after her friend Daisy is murdered. Despite her mistrust, Mariah is attacted to Keegan. He is intrigued by mysterious Mariah and even after he finds out that she is partly responsible for his family's legal problems back in the UK. As they investigate Daisy's murder with the help of Hillvales residents, they encounter danger and strange new paranormal talents.
The third book of this series focuses on Mariah and the Scottish scientist, Keegan. More secrets are uncovered, more evil dispelled and maybe, just maybe, Hillvale might become profitable. A fun read with suspense but no high anxiety for me, the reader, thank you.
Third in the series and the best so far because it ties up a lot of the stories and solves 2 murders. Mariah gets her story and it is a fascinating one, plus Keegan Ives (who ties into her magic series, we now have Malcolm's and Ives)is a wonderful character who shoes up in Hillvale and realizes he has found a place to finally fit in. I will continue to read all the books in the series.
Another enjoyable entry in this series. Since there were two books ahead of this one and a large continuing cast of characters, I was especially glad to see a list of characters included, although since it was at the end, I might easily have missed seeing it until I finished reading the book.
Lovely and funny. I discovered though, that I need to take more time between the parts of the series: the pattern of the stories is too recognizable now.
I have read a lot of books from Mrs. Rice and my favorites are the books of the Malcolm series. This book of the serie Crystal Magic has the same combination of aventure, mistery and romance as the first Magic series. What I liked most in the Crystal Vision was seeing a direct descendent of the Ives family in it, and one who accepts his heritage and the odd family gifts. It is the link pin between the other series (Magic Malcolm and Unexpected Magic) and the modern time Crystal Magic.
The other reason why I think this book is the best of the first three is that a lot of the secrets and some of the past history of some “Lucys” and “Nulls” are revealed. It was interesting to learn more about Hillvale and the eccentric people who lives there.
A Lucy is murdered in this book which really surprised me. This was a good book and I liked it and the characters, but it felt like it was missing something this time, a spark. It is explained why Mariah is so suspicious of everyone and why she is hiding in Hillvale, but I think it hurt the relationship between her and Keegan for me. Frankly, all of her suspicion of Keegan got old. Keegan was awesome as all Ives heroes are and deserving of more. I am still interested in reading more. Curious as to what will happen next. Some weddings would be nice, just think of the mayhem that would be possible.
I just finished reading Crystal Vision, the third book in the trilogy, and it did a fine job of weaving a mystery to it's conclusion while describing likable and believable characters who just happen to have extraordinary gifts. Like pretty much all of Ms Rice's books though it's like trying to eat just one potato chip.... you're left wanting more. I want to move to Hillvale and eat at Dinah's place, maybe stay at the resort and definitely have my cards read by Amber. I can never get enough of the Malcolm and Ives families, I just wish Ms. Rice could write them as quickly as I can read them.
