Richard was such an odd character that he probably wouldn't acknowledge credit but be off doing something else. ;)(less)

Dream Series

On February 3, 2015, Book View Cafe will be reissuing my Dream series, connected titles with the villain of Moon Dreams reappearing as the English aristocratic hero in Rebel Dreams. He's still a bad boy until his tart-tongued American match teaches him the error of his way. Each book stands alone, but I enjoyed re-visiting familiar characters.

These books are set during the era of the American Read more of this blog post »

I love history and love mysteries and when it comes with a dose of historical science, I'm a happy camper. Andrea gives us all three, plus remarkable characterization. I'm really looking forward to the next one!

“I did not have any magnificent jewels to give you, but I hoped you would understand that I would give you the world if I could.”
Patricia Rice, The Wicked Wyckerly

“Cade!" Lily knew she spoke too sharply, but it had been a long day. She combed her fingers through Roy's unruly curls as she waited for her foreman to turn and find her. When he did, his gaze went not to Lily but to her affectionate hold on the boy. It was twilight, and the shadows almost concealed Cade's features, but Lily could almost swear she saw a look of longing in the man's eyes before he raised them to her. "Roy says he's almost ready to ride to town. That's a long distance. Don't you think it's a tad soon?" His voice, when it came, was thoughtful and not its usual curt tone. "He learns quick. He ought to be rewarded. It can wait until several of us are ready to go." Cade was right, of course. Lily had been prepared for a confrontation, but it had only been her own frustration speaking. She couldn't erase that glimpse of longing, of loneliness she thought she had seen in Cade's face. Perhaps he had some human traits, after all.”
Patricia Rice, Texas Lily

“Before she realized what he meant to do, Cade was on his horse, towing the mule while riding at right angles away from the road and the army on the move. The rain had let up and the air was warm, and Cade wore only the white full-sleeved shirt and tight trousers he had worn every day since they had left. The shirt was open halfway down his copper chest and accented by a bright-red sash at his waist that held his knife. Lily thought he looked a pirate or worse, but the soldiers striking out after him weren't reaching for their weapons. "He looks like a damned Spaniard," Travis whispered at Lily's side. "How does he do that?" With years of practice and an Indian talent for deception—but Lily didn't say that out loud. She was gradually learning that Cade was like a chameleon, able to blend in with his surroundings for safety. She didn't like to think of the child he must have been to grow up that way, but it certainly helped to survive in this chaos that was Texas. Lily”
