Since young, Mira loves fantasy romance with strong female protagonists and perilous adventures to magical realms and parallel universes to visit dragons, witches, shifters, and fairy tale creatures, bringing heroes and heroines together and aiding their epic fantasy battles against dark enemies so they can have the happily-ever-afters they deserve. When she grew up, she takes a liking to young adult stories, which explains her passion writing in the young adult fantasy romance genre. Her books are clean romance with character development as the prime focus. Even now, she still journeys to fantasy realms whenever she's not writing.

This story was lacking in so many ways. To start it was slow moving. (Like watching water boil.) Along with all the rest of the characters the FMC was boring with no intriguing personality traits that endeared her to me. There were no snarky comments that were funny between friends. (They tried, but they always fell flat.) The storyline was so lacking I honestly don't know why I finished it other than to say I was listening to it on my Bluetooth while at work. (My job is repetitive. lol) I should have quit after only a few chapters.
Rebirth is book one of the Land of Shifters series. Unfortunately, this book was a miss for me with both the story and the narration. This audiobook seemed much longer than the 4 hours and 23 minutes and I struggled to get through it. This was my first experience with this author and it will probably be my last.
I try to review everything I read or listen to, especially if I am rating it negatively. I don't want to tear apart an author's hard work but feel like I need to be honest and share my take on the book. I take no pleasure in leaving negative feedback. That being said, just because something didn't work for me, it doesn't mean it won't work for you.
Rebirth is a young-adult book about a girl named Milla who accidentally breaks the magical seal on her town, Strangeville. She soon learns of shifters and witches. Sounds cool right? I was excited to start this book. I am all about fantasy, paranormal, shifters, witches, etc.
I listened to the audible and did not have the book to read, but if the audiobook was full of editing mistakes, I can't imagine how many errors are in the print version. Some of the errors were bigger than others and entire sentences didn't make sense. I was a bit disappointed that the narrator didn't automatically correct the really obvious/minor errors such as missing words or making a word plural so the sentence makes sense. Since I often do whispersync, I have seen several narrators fix those things so the sentence actually reads correctly and sensical.
There were quite a few plot holes, continuity issues, and poor characterization with no character development. It was too rushed to be able to really give a complete story (or rather the first part of an ongoing series) and because of that, it was difficult to connect to the characters. Plus, the dialogue the friends use is not believable as teenagers and doesn't come off as authentic. Nothing is taken seriously in this book. It can be a crisis and deadly yet at the same time, it is no big deal.
I did not care for the ending, or rather just the last couple of lines, at all. Either spend more time building that scene up or just wait until book 2 to open with that new storyline. It was very out of place and unnecessary for this book based on how things were already wrapped up.
So many things didn't make sense in this book. I started to list a lot of examples but then I felt bad because there were so many critical things with no positives to balance them with; so, I am just providing a short list to back up my statements and opinions. -Milla and her group of friends. There are 2 boys and 3 girls in their tight-knit group. We don't know for sure how old these kids are. The way these kids behave, they could be anywhere from 13-18 but then we learn they are in high school. One of the friends mentions a college acceptance letter so maybe they are seniors. None of the kids can drive though. They walk everywhere and Milla mentions that she is a minor, doesn't know how to drive and doesn't even have a learner’s permit. And when I say walk, they literally walk across the entire town like it is no big deal and based on the landmarks provided, it is quite a distance. Either way, their parents are fine with their co-ed sleepovers and camping trip to sleep in the woods, even though a lot of reports have been coming in about bad stuff happening in these woods. Also, Milla talks about her past relationships and passionate romantic bond with her ex-boyfriend and speaks of her relationships as though she is in her 20s, talking about gifts given on birthdays and anniversaries, things that indicate a significant history of dating, not as a kid who hasn't even gotten her learner's permit.
-Her mom just up and abandons her in a time of crisis, leaving a brief note that Milla should run away, leave town, and not come back. Milla's dad is out of town so she just stays home alone, and no one calls her father to come home even though the police and townsfolk know that her mom left.
-Her dad is supposed to be out of town on business and early in the book it is said that he will be back the following Wednesday. Yet he is gone for over a couple of weeks as the story progresses and still returns on time as if that was the plan all along. He never checks in or finds out his wife is gone or that his daughter is in trouble and has been attacked.
-After the kids get attacked in the woods and one of them is killed, they go back to one of the guys houses. His father doesn't even bother calling the police about the attack or killing until much later, after they have already moved on to Milla's house. They all walked there with the dad and his gun. Maybe the dad can't drive either.
-The special magic rock is red in the beginning of the book. Then it is yellow for the whole middle of the book. Then it is red again at the end of the book. There is no attention drawn to this fact by Milla, or anyone else, to state that Milla noticed it or to explain what was happening so we are left to assume that it was just an error on the author’s part. It is literally a different color from one scene to the next.
This book is told in dual POV. Most of the book is from Milla’s POV but chapters 20, 22, half of 23, 24, 27, half of 28, half of 30, half of 34, and half of 35 is Trevor’s POV. The first half of chapter 35 is by an unknown POV, possibly a character named Noctus or possibly a neutral POV like the epilogue was.
I was not a fan of how the female narrator read the book and she narrated most of it. Her pacing was off and inconsistent. It was too fast for a lot of the book. The voices she used didn’t fit the characters. The voices were a cross of sing-song and whiny, and a bit of a stereotypical stoner sound. I think her voices would have been great for a fantasy book with fairy creatures rather than human teenagers. I did enjoy her voice for the straight narration though and she was easy to understand. The male narrator was better. I think I would have preferred for him to narrate the entire book.
This is not a book that I will be recommending in print or in audio.
I'm gonna keep it simple... I really enjoyed this story; no overbearing or unhealthy romance, and a good story line. Now I just need to find out what happens next!
Mila and Trevor were excellent POV characters and the rest of the ensemble were great, the setting was clear and everything tied in nicely.
No complaints here, except that I don't already have the next part!
Audio book: This was an enjoyable read, Milla had her life turn upside down and it was enjoyable following her story. The other characters are good, I liked them all. The ending got me wanting to do book 2, so looks like its on the list soon.
Wonderful book for a series starter! A couple things within the story messed with me, although they were really really minor issues. *What husband doesn't call his wife or daughter while out of town for 2 weeks? *Why did the police not contact him about his wife? *Why were authorities not doing more investigating in the "disappearance" of a teen? Especially once where her friends are saying they witnessed her murder? *Why were the "friends" not together once they got back and sticking together after what happened? Holy crap. Months apart? Not even a "how are you?" I find it odd. *What about the other parents? Given that this is the first book of the series, I know that there's more to it, but these were things that stuck out to me. Time to read book 2!!

German review: ____________ "Rebirth" is the first book in a series about shifters and witches who are in conflict with each other. The peace has been kept for some time, but now the protagonist, Milla, gets involved in a potentially deadly struggle she had previously known nothing about. And if just the existence of werewolves and dragons and magic wasn’t enough to completely change how she looked at the world, she suddenly is able to use magic herself and on top of that, she has to deal with horrible things happening.
At the beginning, Milla does not know that the myths she liked to read about her whole life are actually real, but the story itself built up the suspense nicely and there was a fair bit of tension. While the book had a bit of a slow start, it definitely captured my interest from the get-go and it was interesting to discover more about the world the characters live in while they themselves learned that there was a very real danger. There are some confrontations and fights for their lives; the descriptions were vivid enough to paint a clear, slightly terrifying picture and the author managed to convey the sense of dread and fear that the characters felt well. I also liked that the characters reacted in realistic ways; they don’t immediately believe strange explanations that go against everything they previously thought to be true and are deeply affected by what is happening to them instead of just shrugging everything off.
Milla and Trevor, whose point of view becomes important later in the story, are both properly fleshed out characters with their own flaws and strengths; I liked the dynamic between them and their relationships with other friends and family members, but I also liked that while the potential for a romance was definitely there, it was mostly in the background. I do enjoy love stories, but in this case, it made sense to focus on the issues that they had to deal with and the potentially lethal conflict.
The story itself was interesting and there were some nice twists that I did not see coming at all, even though they made a lot of sense in hindsight. As the reader learns more about the history behind the conflict between the witches and shifters, it gets easier to get a clear picture, but at the same time, the story gets more complex since different characters offer opposing points of view. Not everyone has the same perception of reality and because of that, there are moments of confusion about what is true or not, especially near the end. The last few chapters are especially intense; there is a lot going on, the fights are written really well and the epilogue itself offers a cliffhanger that opens up many possibilities for the second book, so I can’t wait to read it. ____________ I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rebirth: Land of Shifters is a shifter book written by Mira Crest. Reading the information about the book I thought this would be worth a read, but sadly I was mistaken. The biggest issue I have with this book is that it needs a serious editorial overhaul! It was full of errors which totally distracts from reading it. In today's age, where any author can find ARC or beta readers, as well as computers that can help with getting most errors, there really shouldn't be this many errors anymore. I am talking about missing words, misused words, typos, grammatical errors and so on.
Sadly that was not all. I also had quite a few issues with the content itself. I thought the concept of the book was actually pretty good, but the execution needs some work. So for one, if things are going bad, whose mom would just up and leave town, leaving their daughter who is coming home after a camping trip that day on their own. Knowing that their daughter can't drive and dad is out of town. Now mom tells their kid to leave town because she is in danger, but up and leaves her to fend for her own. Like seriously WTF? Whose mom does that? And reading on, when you finally get her explanation, it STILL DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!! And her daughter is like "oh ok, all is good!" NO freaking way!
There is also a lack of character development. I couldn't really relate to any of the characters. If I were to meet a werewolf, I wouldn't be like oh ok, that's cool. All the characters are just flat. They loose one of their best friends and their grief is just lack luster to say the very least, they wouldn't even really tell the cops that their friend is dead. Just how the whole thing came about was just weird.
Then there are things like she finds a rock, and it is red, then all the sudden it is yellow for the longest time of the story until it is red again. No explanation or anything, just changes colors for whatever reasons. And the rock causes all these issues yet Milla refuses to return it and refuses to see the danger.
And finally you think the big fight happens, you think big climatic fighting scene, and yes I was sadly disappointed. It was just a blur of nothing in a way, I have a tough time describing it. In a way it was like we are here lets fight, nah I don't have what I need, evil person here, done. Just weird and I still struggle to describe it. But this would be where you pull out all the stops and there just wasn't.
And the one thing I just didn't get, was at the very end, the final scene. I have given away some sorta spoilers and I am trying to not give away that final scene here. But the author decided to make a decision in that final scene that I just don't get. It feels to me it was for shock value only and to have a cliff hanger to the next book, since I really felt like that scene was not necessary, at all! It came totally out of the blue and I really thought it was not the right call, but hey it is not my book but it is my opinion.
The pace of the book throughout felt fairly slow and I really struggled with this book quite a bit. All in all, as it stands I can't recommend this book. There are too many errors in this book, the characters are lack luster and just can't carry the story and even though the story itself had a lot of promise, I find the execution of it all fell short.
I listened to this book on audiobook. I will start with the Narrations. I honestly can't say the narration was great, it wasn't awful and I've honestly listened to much worse. I can't tell if it's the writing making that narration sound weird or if it's both. But i felt as though the female Narrator (Heather L.) was not great.
This book had So Much Potential!
This story could have been so fun and interesting. The story was fun and the characters seem to actually have different personalities and be whole characters.
This book centers around a girl names Mila. She lives in a small town with her parents and she enjoys reading. She stumbles upon this book about the myths of her town and this is how we're introduced to the paranormal side of the story. She goes camping with her friends and everything changes. She becomes the key to saving her town. It was fun and interesting. The reality is that she sort of dooms the town and then has to fix her mistake, but tou know... stuff happens.
The writing wasn't quite up to the challenge of making the book live up to that potential though.
The conversations felt so forced and robotic. The MC sounded Nothing like a teenager at times and too much like the stereotype of a teenager at others. I felt very much like her relationship with the dragon shifter boy was totally left field and was only highlighted when he was necessary to the story, but by then, he had no significance to the reader whatsoever, making it feel like a forced love triangle. The way she just grabs the stone while running for her life because it's pretty and she could make jewelry for her mom with it... so unrealistic. I understand that fiction isn't realistic, but there are aspects that have to feel realistic. If I'm running for my life, I'm not gonna stop to grab pretty rocks to make my mom a bracelet. I don't care if I literally fall face first on the rock and that's all I can see, the last thing anyone running for their lives is thinking is "this is totally pretty enough to be jewelry, let me get that" not happening.
There was just too many holes in the story, couple that with the conversations and it just doesn't work.
I just honestly couldn't sink into the story because the writing was not believable. It felt more like someone was running me through the idea of the book instead of me actually listening to the finished version.
Maybe some more proofreading and some more beta readers could have helped fix the writing. I just don't see this as a finished manuscript and the narration just couldn't fix that.
Milla loves to read folk tale about her town but on a camping trip the most recent story becomes all to real and her new acquaintance Trevor shows her a whole new side and all this while her mom is missing. I’ve done a really quick summary but trust me when I say if you like Shapeshifting then you should really like this book. It is a quick fun read in one I hope I can listen to the sequel of. I find this author is really good at making distinguish characters although there was points in that I thought dragged but it was only in the beginning when the teens were getting ready to walk to the mountain when the action started it didn’t let up and it was so good! I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one. I listen to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a wonderful job and I hope she does the next book. I received it from StoryOrigin and I’m leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.
this book is given 4 stars.. I remove one star due to the grammar issues like Random word "hint" or ", but it was a Monstrous." It was a monstrosity or a monster... would of fit better. This breaks the adherence to the story, there are many but this is just 2.
4 points because good character creation, nice story build up.. anticipation of what next, mystery, and all the kids are well described, and give you the feeling of people whom you would of seen in real life as a kid. Back ground for parents well arranged. For me this is a good start to a series, and I am enjoying it, but more proof reading needs to be done.
Also I note that the book starts with it being near the end(chapter 9), it should have a statement of "one week earlier" to remove confusion for the reader.. of where the story begins to tell what is happening..
This is a were-wolf encounter series, will probably be looking out for where I can get the next book.. Thanks for doing a terrific Job. Love the story.
I read Rebirth as part of YA Fantasy Romance Series Bundle by Mira Crest is a great package deal. This offering is a group of four different books are all the first book in their respective series. The books included are as follows: 1) Soul Mates: This is a reverse harem fantasy where four guardians end up as forever mates. 2) Mermaid’s Destiny: This is the Meragon series’ first book where a imprisoned mermaid and dragon must work together to save each other. 3) Fae’s Queen: This book is a modern retelling of a fairy tale that includes wishing and moving between this world and another alternate world. 4) Rebirth: A human girl learns that she is in danger from paranormal creatures that she didn’t even know were real. Each book in this set is an entertaining read. I can’t pick just one as my favorite because I loved all of them for different reasons. Reading this set is an excellent way to find a new favorite series. Rebirth is an amazing adventure.
Good story, extremely poor execution. I like the story as a whole, though it could use some work overall, the writing is terrible. Inconsistent as all hell, and there's too many parts that just don't fit right. huge gaps of time just dropped from the story like they don't matter (perhaps they don't, but starting a paragraph in the morning, and having it end at night just doesn't work). If this story was rewritten to tighten up some of the more scattered plot points, fix the massive amount of timing errors, and generally smooth out the overall storyline, this would be an excellent book. Sorry though, 2 stars is all I can offer in it's current form.
I was listening to the Audible version of this before deciding that this book was not for me. I love this genre, but this particular writing style began to bother me almost immediately. Then soon after, I began to have issues with the behaviors of the characters and decided it was time to cut my losses. Too many obstacles with no apparent payoff. The narration was not helpful as the female narrator's voice was on the verge of being whiny and the forced laughter was just TOO much.
Rebirth (Land of Shifters Book One) by Mira Crest this story has werewolves, dragon Shifters and witches in it what is not to love about this story. This is a wonderful story with strong characters and an awesome story line written by a fantastic author. I highly recommend this story to all who love werewolves, dragon shifters and witches, and if you buy this story you will not be disappointed at all.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Interesting book. It was kind of difficult to write this review as I have several points I would like to include. It’s listed as a YA but there is quite a bit of death involved so beware. This story of witches and shifters is somewhat confusing and leaves too many open ended questions. Hopefully they will be answered in book two. I did enjoy the book but hope the story improves with book two.
For me this story is almost an young adult perfect. The story has sometimes a slow pace, but the twists and turns will keep you grabbing your seat. Though most of them are easy to guess, there is at least one you won't see coming. The narration is very good, though the female tone is sometimes a bit off and the male voice is a bit to "old"/grave for the character's age. In the end, a very interesting story. I want to see what will come next.
This was an interesting shifter tale that all started on a camping trip. There were some points throughout the book that I found confusing for a bit but by the end I understood more and was really interested. The entire story has some interesting plot points but the end was the most intriguing.
The characters were well detailed and I felt the narration was decent.
I received a free copy of the story and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The story itself was interesting. A town with legends of beasts in the forest and strange things. Later we discover that the town is inhabited by shifters and witches that were under a spell with their memories and powers sealed until Milla breaks the seal by mistake, starting a series of events that will reignite the war that began a century before.
The premise is good, but I felt like it was skipping parts. I get that the author wanted to skip ugly parts like Milla's torture, but it also robbed us of knowing what the bad guy wanted to learn from the interrogation. And it was not the only thing skipped over. Other things were not really explained.
I personally felt like it was missing stuff. Still, it was an interesting reading.
Milla has always been intrigued by books. She recently read one about the town’s history, which she assumed to be fake. That changed when she and her friends went hiking in the woods. She discovered a red stone and soon found out that the legends surrounding the town are true. After becoming the stone’s new guardian, Milla uncovers more about who she is. With the help of Trevor, they set out to try and fix everything.
milla and her friends decided to go to a local lake for a weekend. After arriving they got bored and decided to walk to a hill to get a better view. That is when things took a wrong course and the lives of the students are never the same with shifters suddendly appearing from the locals and then everything became a free for all. Werewolves, witches, dragons all began fighting over a stone Milla had found which had magical properties. An light but an interesting read.
A fun read. Mila goes camping with her friends one weekend and they run into a strange looking creature, which scares them all away into the forest. Mila finds a peculiar looking rock with magical properties. Strange thing begin to happen as she keeps the rock, and a wonderful adventure ensues.
This was a really good start to a new series! Milla goes camping in the woods with her friends and they run into a frightening creature. While everyone gets separated, she finds herself in a circle of stones with an altar in the middle. She sees a stone, picks it up, and everything goes downhill from there. Her best friend dies that same night, her mother goes missing, and other residents of Strange Ville are dying left and right. I loved that this book contained witches, werewolves, dragon shifters, and a town with a strange area of woods. This was an entertaining, suspenseful, and action packed book that I couldn’t put down. I hope that the next book has more character development and answers some unexplained questions that I have! Heather and George did a pretty good narration duet! They both spoke at a steady pace, did different character voices, and flowed nicely with each other. Some parts felt more like a reading than a performance, but it was still entertaining and kept my attention. *I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Shifters oh my This was intense, but there were a few things that happened that I didn't care for. I won't go into details as I hate spoilers. The narrative brings you into the story. This audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.
I was just drawn into this wonderful story and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was just so easy to get lost in this great story. I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in it and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
This book was good at first started slow it was easy to skim read with out missing anything story line was good but got better as it went one hopefully there will be another book soon because that ending was crazy.
This book caught my interest, so I bought it. It was a good choice. The plot and storyline is very good. The characters are interesting which helped me. I have not read anything like this book. If you like shiters and witches, you will enjoy it!
I loved that Milla was so strong. I loved that she made a new friend. I really liked the different take of the witches and shifters story. Can't wait to read the next one!
Firstly this was a good read but there was a few punctuality errors and a few spelling mistakes of you changeover that then your in for a good read.Love how she and Trevor came about and how/who artie is .
