Whispers From the Bayou, Book 2. Can Whispers survive the consequences of a gargoyle and a witch?
SPOILER ALERT: WHILE IT’S NOT ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO READ CARNAGE (BOOK 1) BEFORE DESTROY, YOU’LL MISS A LOT OF BACKSTORY AND CONTEXT IF YOU DON’T. IF YOU HAVEN’T READ CARNAGE, THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.
Destroy…a strong, handsome, discerning, brilliant male…best of the best. Of that, he’s sure. But is he? If so, why then can’t he have the one thing he longs for? Carnage found his mate. Why can’t Destroy? Fate brings him to Rowan. There’s just one tiny problem. Rowan herself. A servant in Mr. Ashlar’s home, danger surrounds her, and not just from Mr. Ashlar. She’s always known what she is. It broke free just once, and her family has paid dearly ever since. She’s broken, can’t be trusted. But none of that matters to Destroy. When Rowan’s life is threatened, Destroy’s there. Is taking her to Whispers a good idea? Humans are forbidden, except for Carolena. But Rowan’s no ordinary female. Enthrall, Carnage, Lore, and especially Destroy all know. To her, her mere presence endangers Whispers. As much as she wants to, she can’t stay. Or can she? When events conspire to separate Carnage and Carolena, the mantle of leadership falls on Destroy’s shoulders. Unknown to all is the danger that lurks, waiting for Rowan around every corner. When Whispers is threatened, will Rowan unleash the power inside, even to save Whispers? If she does, will anything survive? Can Destroy convince Rowan that her powers aren’t evil? Will she ever see him for the male he truly is? Or will Rowan’s power unwittingly rip her world, her life, apart again, taking everyone she loves from her forever?
Sandra Neeley has proven time and again her command of the paranormal. She makes the unbelievable believable. Whispers is a world unlike any other. In some ways, it mirrors the human world. There’s infinite diversity. Magic and the supernatural permeate the very air. But in this world, good and evil, light and dark, hatred, jealousy, all-consuming love, and joy exist side-by-side. I can’t begin to fathom how Ms. Neeley created this world. All I know is I love it. I’m captivated by it, to the point where the real world ceased to exist, so immersed in the magic that nothing else mattered. Gargoyles, witches, vampires, Ancients, merpeople, dragons…can they be real? Ms. Neeley makes you believe. Your mind tells you these are creatures of legend who can’t exist. Your heart tells something completely different. Ms. Neeley transforms them, makes you see who and what they truly are. It’s more proof of her incredible talent. Destroy is so full of himself. In many ways, he’s comical. But is this real or just a façade? Destroy is so much more than he appears. Rowan’s power terrifies her. She denies her very soul in a misguided attempt to protect others. Yet she too has unplumbed depths. These two have only the tiniest of connections. This story shouldn’t work. Yet the smallest sparks are fanned into flames that consume you entirely. Add the wealth of supporting characters, the beauty of the Louisiana bayou, the emotions Ms. Neeley evokes, and you have an enchanting treasure! Congratulations, Ms. Neeley! I adored this book! Destroy deserves so much more than five stars!
A final note. This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and all booksellers' websites. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to a book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
