Seeking Justice #1

Injustice For All

Rate this book
"I should have tried harder."Those final words are scrawled across a note that’s been pinned to a man's remains.

Pulled to a crime scene in the middle of the night, Detective Marx struggles to unravel the mystery behind a message written by the victim. A suicide note . . . or an admission of guilt? Before he can discover the truth, what seems to be a random act of violence becomes something much darker and far more dangerous.

Another note. Another body.

With very little evidence and even less time, Detective Marx searches for the common thread between the victims before another innocent dies, but his efforts might put him directly in the killer’s path.

Injustice for All is a spin-off from the Holly Novels, but it can be read as a standalone book. If you're wondering where this book falls in relation to the Holly Novels, here's the Criss Cross, Winter Memorial, Cross Fire, Crossed Off, Injustice for All.

Gripping story from Detective Marx ‘s point of view, compatible with the Criss Cross stories of Holly Cross. One of my favorite new Christian authors.
If you like Lisa Harris, Dani Pettrey or Irene Hannon— definitely give C.C. Warrens a try.

*I received this book from the author. I wasn’t expected to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

I wanted to try a Christian suspense series. This did not dissapoint. It was refreshing to read a book without bad languge, sexually explicit scenes, and other raunchy plots/narratives. The main character, Holly, does experience SA in her past which is the focus of her story but it never states it our right or goes into any detail. It is all inference based.
Overall, I loved this book and the entire series due to becoming invested in the characters.

Great beginning to a new series! Detective Marx was my favorite character from the Holly novels, so I knew I had to read this one. It did not disappoint! Not only did it continue Holly’s story, there was a new serial killer story to solve. It kept me guessing until the end. I can’t wait until the next one!

"I should have tried harder."

A nasty epitaph pinned across the chest of a homicide victim . . . "there were too many possible meanings" for Detective Richard Marx to decipher at first glance, but the implications were clear, the general surgeon at New York City Hospital had fallen short of someone's expectations.

When other murders with similar modes of operation continue across the precinct, law officers rush to determine who or what the victims have in common. While leading the case, Marx is also continuing to manage a young woman's recovery from an horrific crime in hopes that she will be able to testify in the perpetrator's upcoming trial . . . . . Holly needs to feel safe, but what she doesn't know won't hurt her . . . or will it?

An interesting, fast paced suspense with a number of missing pieces; and although the core of the story was very good, there was a simplicity that begged for deeper character construction and a bit more backstory for those who had not read the previous series.

DNF @ 12% - I thought this was the first book in a series, but turns out it's the first book in a spin-off series, of another series I haven't read. I felt like I was walking into the middle, because the character Marx already had so much history that I knew nothing about. I guess I should read the "Holly" series first!

Great plot twist in this one

I was determined that i knew who the killer was halfway through this book. I was surprised when the true killer came to light. C.C. Warren's does such a great job with her suspense and still keeping it clean. I have really enjoyed reading the Holly series. I highly recommend this series. definitely use her suggested reading order to get the most out out her books.

This books deserves MORE than 5 stars. The author is so very talented. All the twists and turns, highs and lows, funny parts and not so good parts of the evil characters were great. I can't wait until the next one.

Pain and forgiveness

No one understands someone else’s pain like Holly. She’s been through so much pain that she knows what it’s like for others. She also knows how to forgive even when the other person doesn’t deserve forgiveness. That’s why we love her so much.

Oh. My. Word! C.C. Warrens has done it again. She has delivered the first book in a new series that will keep you interested from the beginning and begging for more at the end. I love her style of writing and she makes sure you never get bored and you never fully know what’s coming. Her character development is amazing and you will fall in love with these character’s even more (if that’s possible) than in her first series, The Holly Novels (Criss Cross #1, Cross Fire #2, Crossed Off #3). This new series follows Detective Marx from the Holly Novels and of course Holly is right there with him. You can read this without reading the Holly Novels, but I personally don’t recommend it. It’s like eating chocolates from a box without the labels telling you what each one tastes like…yes, they are good, but knowing what each one is and what it will taste like is much better.

Detective Marx is caught up in a huge case. Someone is killing people and it’s his job to find out who they are before someone else turns up dead. Marx is also pared up with a partner and he’s not all that happy with Michael. He prefers to work alone, and obviously breaking in a new partner takes time. The unknown killer is lurking everywhere, you never know when he’ll show up and you never know what will happen. And Holly is still very much in the picture and her sweet relationship with Marx grows even deeper. He’s like a father, and Marx feels like Holly is his daughter he never had. All the other characters from the previous series shows up and all the twists and turns will keep you reading. And the ending…OH! That’s all I’ll say. Well, I’ll say one more thing…C.C.Warrens, I can’t wait for the sequel!!!

The way I review a book is different from some, I tell why I loved the book and give a little bit about it, but I just refuse to say more because I can’t stand to read spoilers. I want to be drawn in, shocked, confused, filled with laughter, drenched with inspiration, and totally surprised by everything that takes place. All I can say is if you are a fan of C.C. Warrens first series, The Holly Novels, then you are already probably reading this book. If you haven’t read them, get them and read them now and then read this book. It’s so wonderful! I’ve read it twice already! That means it’s GREAT!

Injustice for All has an absorbing mystery, heart-pounding suspense, and strong themes of hope and friendship.

Detective Marx, the NYPD’s Southern import and beloved good guy from CC Warrens’ Holly Cross novels, scrambles to find a serial killer with a moralizing streak in this first book of the Seeking Justice series. He must navigate enigmatic clues, false leads, and threats that hit a little too close to home to find the truth and protect the people he cares about.

Although the plot is exciting and intense, this is definitely a character-driven novel thanks to Marx, with his complex mixture of no-nonsense toughness, fierce sense of justice, and patient affection.

The inspirational message always present in Warrens’ novels has a uniquely Marx spin also, as he slowly learns to exchange his lifelong self-reliance for genuine faith and strives (sometimes awkwardly) to encourage others to do the same. The result is a warm and realistic picture of the faith journey.

Fans of the previous series will be delighted to see familiar secondary characters, especially the quirky and unexpectedly heroic Holly Cross.

I highly recommend this book, as it will keep readers entertained and uplifted from the first page.

I love how this book is a separate book from the Holly Cross series, and yet it connects because it’s more about Marx and what he does.
I loved how the author intertwined the series together and we still get the same flair of the Holly series.
In this story, we read about the struggles of wanting justice for wrongs done. What would bring a person to commit crimes against others? It is a real issue in our world and the author has done a valid job of depicting it.
Throughout this book, we see that Marx has his own interesting issues and struggle and it’s great to see his heart.
CC Warrens has created a community of people and friends that seem real, and we want to see what is happening in their lives.
If you love suspense, action, drama, heart-dropping moments as well as, fun spunky times, then this is the book for you to pick up.
Even though you can read this book as a stand-alone, I would recommend you first pick up the first three books in the Holly Cross series. It will give you better background.
If you love books that will keep you spellbound until the very end, then this is one for you!
I highly recommend you put this book up and read it.

OVERALL STAR RATING: 5/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5

This is book one in the “Seeking Justice” series from C.C. Warrens, but it’s connected to the Holly Novels I’ve been reading. The author has a book order posted on Amazon for how they should be read, and this one was next up. MAN – you guys…I just keep falling more and more in love. This one is very much up there as one of my favorites. A new mystery to be solved, but with all the characters we’ve grown to know and love.

I have to say I felt as though I perhaps had this one figured out halfway through. I was very much wrong. LOL I was still holding out hope to the very end that my theory was correct. HaHa Not at all disappointed I was wrong, I mean, listen – I’m no detective! Just the fact that you find yourself that invested in the read, wanting and attempting to crack the case is testament to a well written novel.

Once again, intense and suspenseful from start to finish. Low on the romance scale. I will continue to beg you all to pick up a C.C. Warrens novel. You won’t be disappointed!

You Don't Deserve Another Chance

Detective Marx trieds hard to keep Holly completely safe even while he works another series of murders which are definitely tied together somehow. It became apparent to him one evening that his home had been broken into while Holly was present, yet the person carefully steered clear of Holly. Amazing and so scary for Marx. The killer stayed one step ahead of the police and bodies were piling up. Marx's ex-wife is the D.A., so very involved in Holly's case also. She seems more caring than in the last five years since their divorce. Another great read by the author who keeps my attention to the last word!!]]

Collin and police Detective

There are people that takes me a very long long time to forgive for what they put People through but the one that put Holley and other women through this,I almost think I could gouge out both eyeballs and not be sorry for them not as long as I was on this earth but I would do my best to pray for them and get God to help me be forgiven for my sin of hate and to forgive him. The song “For thine is the kingdom and the power and glory……….. Amen Amen. Is the one song & thing that I could think about and now pray about this situation in so many peoples lives today on this earth. Please pray with me. Great book!!!!!

Although this book says it is the first in a series, I would strongly suggest reading the series about Holly before this one. The characters and storyline are a continuation from that series. This book was mostly from Marx's perspective. I honestly missed Holly's perspective, although I enjoyed learning more about Marx. There were some twists and turns and this book's mystery was resolved. However, readers are left looking forward to more of Marx and Holly's story. I'm looking forward to reading Holly Jolly Christmas before moving on to Imperfect Justice!

"I should have tried harder." The final words written on a note that's pinned to a man's remains. Detective Marx attempts to solve the mystery behind a message written by the victim. A suicide note . . . or an admission of guilt? Before he can discover the truth another note and another body shows up. Detective Marx searches for answers before another innocent person dies.
I love the action, the plot, and the interesting characters. Add the Christian element and the story is great. From the first scene to the last, I stayed glued to Injustice for All. Five-Stars

I liked reading from Marx's pov. There is so much of the Holly novels woven throughout. It's nice to read from a different MC viewpoint that overlaps with a different series. So thank you, C.C Warrens. Marx's job keeps him on his toes while fighting crime and finding ways to get criminals to stop finding him. Holly is just as overprotective of him as he is her. Her heart shines through and teaches him and another character about God's grace and forgiveness. It's a powerful message sent over a thriller of a story.

If you've read the Holly Cross series, you'll enjoy getting to know Detective Marx better. He gets his own story here, with all the lovable characters from Holly's stories, but we see more of his aggressive, grouchy side. I wasn't sure I wanted to read it because of the rather gruesome way it starts out, but I couldn't help wanting to read Marx's story and it didn't disappoint. Can't wait for Book #2!

An Exciting Page Turner!!

I enjoyed reading this book. It deals with some heavy topics with a glimpse of hope. There are many nuggets of wisdom planted within thoe story to lead the reader to Truth. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. A note of caution, this book does refer to acts of violence that may be difficult for victims to read. In my mind the incidents are handled very tactfully.

Love This Series!

C. C. has written of a topic that can be very difficult to read about. And yet amazingly encouraging to read of a character that endured such trauma and survived. I especially enjoy the relationship C.C. cultivated between Holly and the detective. It’s not your ordinary love story. That’s one of my favorite things about the series!! I eagerly await the next book!

Tension galore

Detective Marx and his partners must find a serial killer before he completes killing his list of victims. Then the killer adds Marx to his kill list. He makes the mistake of involving Holly, and this does not turn out the way he planned. Another great storyline, and even though this begins a new series (Seeking Justice series) we have the same characters, which will complete Holly's story. I'm so glad I stumbled into this writer's books. Very highly recommend.

This is a great series. It picks up from where Crossed Off ends and focuses on Detective Marx investigating a serial killer. Holly, who is right there besides him, displays strength as she continues to trust the Lord amidst her pain. I had to laugh at the prank that Holly pulled on Marx.
This story not only includes suspense and a crime investigation but also includes a reminder that healing comes slowly with trauma.

So good. Suspense. Page turner. CC Warrens' books are fantastic, get your heart beating with wonder, with humor, love and a group of people who come together like family (care for one another, give time to one another, tease one another and respect one another). It is just a must read! But be sure to read the beginning of the series first...Criss Cross, Winter Memorial, Cross Fire, Crossed off...

I am absolutely loving this entire series. Having an insight into Marx and his thoughts and how he sees the world added so much depth to the character I already loved. It was also wonderful to see Holly from someone else’s point of view. I will say the ending (no spoilers) has made me a little excited and nervous to read Cross the Line. First, Holly Jolly Christmas. I honestly recommend this series

Marx is the focus

I love the Holly series by C.C. Warren and this book picks up right after the third book. While the Focus is on Detective Marx, Holly's story continues. Many cool things in this book. We get into the mind of Marx and we see how much he loves and cares about Holly. Also the twists and turns in the book keep you guessing. Highly recommended.

This book would be better read after reading the previous trilogy.
I did not find the story nearly as gripping as previously but still enjoyed meeting the characters again. Will keep reading the series.
CC Warrens writes well (excellent editing again - didn't spot any mistakes) and the story keeps you wanting to read more.

I love Marx!!!

He would make a great dad and I’m glad he sees Holly that way she needs someone like him. I liked this book because I got to go in depth and see his side more. He’s a really sweet guy with a little bit of a temper. He’s just passionate about the people he cares for.

Loved it! I did not realize this was a continuation of the Holly Trilogy or I would have read it sooner!! It's amazing to see how the story continues and leave you wanting more. This book is fast paced, riveting, well-thought out and highly suspenseful. If you love mystery and suspense you will love this book. If you have not read the Holly series, I would highly advise you to start there.

keeps you guessing like a good murder mystery

Holly from Criss Cross returns in this book. I haven’t read that series, but this one started out really good with a serial killer for the detectives to find. Keeps you on the edge of your seat! Stayed up late to finish it! I will read more of this author’s books! There is a faith thread and an interesting epilogue!
