This 26,000 word novella was previously published in A Regency Duo by Carole Mortimer & Angelique Armae. There have been no changes or additions from the original novella. INDECENT (Regency Lovers 1) is the 1st book in USA Today Bestselling Author, Carole Mortimer’s, NEW Regency series. Impoverished Miss Emma Harris can hardly believe her good fortune when Adam Stirling, the handsome and imposing Duke of Hawkwood, asks her father for her hand in marriage. However, she feels thoroughly humiliated when she attends a masked ball that very same evening and sees Hawkwood in a compromising position with a married woman. A very compromising position, in fact it is positively INDECENT. Angry and upset, Emma confronts Hawkwood with what she saw, accusing him of only wanting to marry her as a shield to his affairs with other women. Accusations the duke denies. Half in love with the arrogant Hawkwood, Emma is devastated when she learns the real reason he asked her to marry him. But if Emma thinks Adam is the type of gentleman to meekly accept her rejection, she is about to learn exactly how INDECENT he can be when he wants something as deeply as he now wants Emma. I compared this only to other novellas I've read and not to full length regency historicals.

I have only one big complaint with this novella:

It was too short ! I wanted to read more about these MC's !

Adam, the super sexy Duke of Hawkwood, was a far more likable and impressive H than his skankaholic brother ( the H from Obsession ) had been. Adam hadn't wasted his time screwing married OW for one thing. Secondly, he was a more respectable alpha male H too and I loved how much he lost all interest in other women after he'd been introduced to the heroine, Emma:

To no avail. None of those women possessed Emma’s soft golden hair, the creamy perfection of her skin, the shy beauty of her green eyes, and that deceptively voluptuous body. Nor was their perfume so deliciously fruity, it instantly made his cock hard. He had even visited a previous mistress one evening, in the hope the two of them might rekindle some of their former desire for each other. To Adam’s chagrin, his cock had refused to rise to the occasion, or for that woman.

Carole Mortimer, Indecent ( Regency Lovers 1 ) (Kindle Locations 149-152). Carole Mortimer. Kindle Edition.

This was more erotica than historical romance but I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm a total hypocrite too because I ignored the voice in my brain that kept reminding me to be more critical of it from the historical perspective. I don't know but there was something about Adam that was so compellingly sexy. He was so masterful in the sex scenes, without being a Dom and his obsessive besotted feelings for Emma were hot. Carole M's physical description of the H was absolutely scrumptious too. He had longer hair and startling sexy silvery eyes.

Forget the guy on the cover of the novel ( I mean no disrespect to the model though ! ), because this is how I pictured Adam in my mind ( minus the earrings of course )

And this is the heroine, Emma:

Adam became so obsessed with Emma that he asked her father for her hand in marriage, a mere week after he'd been introduced to her. Emma was awed and flattered because he's the hottest eligible bachelor and she's got no dowry since her family live in genteel poverty. She's gotten lots of unsavoury propositions from men and a few proposals from elderly aristocrats but she'd never believed that someone like the exalted Duke of Hawkwood would want her for his duchess. Things go sour for the couple when Emma sees the H's younger brother getting a blow job from his psychotic mistress, Lady Millbrook. The couple were in a dimly lit alcove and the heroine thought that it had been Adam who'd been getting his penis polished.

So, she's hurt, mad as hell and proceeds to jilt the H. Adam doesn't take this so easily though, because he's determined to make her his wife and he wants to punish her a little for not trusting him. Of course, since this is erotica the punishment is all good and sexy. Suffice to say that Emma thoroughly enjoyed her punishment. It was not a BDSM type of thing though. The plot gets complicated when the H's younger brother's mistress gets jealous of Emma and decides to try and kill her. Lady Millbrook had been dumped by the H's brother and she developed the psychotic idea that Emma was being courted by Alexander rather than by Adam. Adam saved the heroine from a serious murder attempt and then proceeded to give an off page scolding to Lady M's cuckolded husband, so that the latter would take his wife off to rusticate at their country estate.

If you enjoy erotic novellas with sexy, obsessed, besotted and possessive alpha male H's who are also dukes then this might appeal to you. This was a lot better than Obsession. In fact, the only thing I enjoyed in Obsession had been the cameo appearances of these MC's. I just wish that Carole M would write a full length regency historical again...

Safety: No OW, no OM and no cheating.

I picked this up after I started the second book and realized there might be crossover. Both books start just after the blurb, so we hit the ground running. This one had more smut because the H is not fighting his feelings.

If you’re familiar with this author’s Mills & Boon/Harlequin stuff or are in the mood for a historical romance… keep looking cause this isn’t it. I can’t imagine any 1817 Lady discussing this with a potential suitor.

“Say the words, Emma.” Her throat moved as she swallowed. “Is it possible for a man to—to put his cock in a lady’s ass?”

😆😆😆😆😆

Bottom Line- This is smut in a historical setting... that is literally that… just the setting. (Nothing resembles 1817.) It’s unrealistic with no deep feels but is a quick and easy read. My biggest grump is that the crazy OW is barely around. I gobbled up the first two books but won’t continue.

Is this the Carole Mortimer?

The H thinks saying and making the h repeat some 'Indecent' words before forcing her to enact them, will turn on the h and the reader.
The h for sure, the reader, me, not so much!
The h's another one - so desperate to marry and be a duchess. But, at least the girl's honest in that.
The only nice thing is the very public declaration/proposal albeit so very anachronistic and unbelievable.
2* because I did not expect this from the CM.

I had to skim read the end, My cringe-o-thometer couldn’t handle the public proposal, it was cute but it was TOOOOO much for my likings.

There was a lot of grammatical error however for someone like me who reads a lot of translated Japanese korean and Chinese manga, I’m kinda a pro at deciphering there meanings 👌🏾✌🏾

Carole Mortimer books remind me of the Mills & Boons I used to read, just the steamier version. They are fun, bite-sized, and tap into the unrealistic person in you that you know you don't want.

Quick Review
- A simple to nothing kind of a plot.
- The absurdity that was the first 25% of this book, in a weird way.
- The absurdity that was the next 75% of this book, in a cute/ sexy way.
- A hero who went from coercive to sweet.
- An idiot heroine.
- A wonderful, delicious, pretty proposal.
- The steam.

*I enjoyed it thoroughly! CM novellas are perfect in-between reads, palate cleansers if you will.

PS - I have realised I can recycle this exact review for practically every CM book!

I do wish people would get their stories edited properly - this one was awash with incorrect grammatical forms, and a massively annoying homophone error (straightened for straitened. PUHLEASE!)

Just because it's hot doesn't mean it doesn't need editing.

While this is a very steamy short story, it just didn’t feel like a period romance set in the regency era. But I did like the characters. If you’re looking for a quick read that’s hot I can recommend this.

Indecent, by Carole Mortimer. Oh my! I think that I literally combusted into a sizzling, erotic inferno after reading this book. Where the heck did you come from Adam, Duke of Hawkwood.
I may need to go and take an ice bath now.
Carol, you can write a romance novel on a higher, deeper level. Let’s get to it. The writer gave me heart palpitations on every level. Clearly the writer has the ability to tell one heck of a romantic story. Instantly, I was captured by the strong masculine dominant swagger that Adam oozed from his character.
The things that he wants to do to Emma had me crossing my legs and saying, “yes please”. “Stop teasing me with your promises of a naughty spanking”. I said it! I am a woman. Here me roar ADAM from my lips.
The writer absolutely kept everything very real. This is so important to the reader so that they can engage more with the book. The drama was light, but it played a major part in the coming of terms between Emma and Adam. Each character was written with intensity behind their character. What I mean is that to me, each character seemed very defensive towards anyone who should cross their paths.
Emma and Adam’s flirting showed this as well, but with time this changed. The book was very easy to read, which I liked. The romance was a wicked game play that I enjoyed reading. I would have liked more elicit interludes among the characters with vivid details to pacify the readers imagination. Also, while the couple are entangled in the wild passion of ecstasy, perhaps the male character can seductively say more erotic naughty words to the woman.
This can be done as he doesn’t hold back his primal instinct to give exhilarating pleasure to his woman. My fellow readers. I recommend this book with two snaps, a twist. Until next time my fellow readers... read on!

Steamy Regency Romance 🔥❤️

I always enjoy Carole Mortimer books! This is a very well written fast paced novella.
Miss. Emma Harris and her father are practically penniless. But that doesn’t stop the handsome Duke of Hawkwood to ask for her hand in marriage.
One night at a masked ball she witnesses an indecent act, and it looks like the Duke!
This is a beautiful and unexpected romance. For such a short story, I loved the attention to details and the storyline of course.
This author never lets me down with her books! ♥️🔥❤️

Short but sweet

This is quite an engaging story from the beginning to the end. It was a story of men's behavior in the time it was wrote about. Love can always kick it in the boot though..

This book is an entry from Carole Mortimer's "steamy" series. Normally, she writes slightly tamer, quite good Regency romance novels. I really enjoyed her Daring Duchesses series; they were fun, romantic entertainment.

I will try to read some of the other novels in this series, but I was a rather disappointed in this entry. Being a novella, I was expecting a pretty short read, and I wasn't wrong -- but that wasn't the whole issue.

I think she might have hurried writing this one, or been under a tough deadline to start the rest of the series, because I'm not used to seeing such a jarring anachronistic error like mentioning photographs in a story set in the time period before the daguerreotype was even developed! I thought I had stayed up too late, but nope, I re-read the sentence three times. She actually has the heroine recalling a "photograph of the statue of David". Oh, mercy! Call me picky, but unless we're talking about an alternate-history fantasy, or just fantasy in general, where time and space don't matter as much in a strictly linear way, I cannot just pass that error up. Totally threw me out of all willingness to suspend disbelief in favor of the story. Hey nay nay!

Hoping the rest of the series, and her other, more explicit, sexy stories are up to the level of editing and consistency that I've come to expect from Mortimer...

A great start to 2 new series!
Indecent: This is a cleverly written love story with a mistaken identity, a malicious, crazed lady and two fine examples of strong main characters in Adam and Emma.
She is a total innocent and he is a virile man, so you can imagine what goes on between them or you could read the story which is very entertaining, but be warned, this is a definite page turner and you might not be able to put it down till you finish it.
The best part for me was the proposal, but then I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.
Prince of Scandal : Gosh, imagine having seven sons! I had two and they were a handful.i can also relate to the older children being bossy and trying to tell the younger ones not only what to do, but how to do it. (Lol!)
This story had its moments. There were times when ai couldn't help but laugh at what went on and others where I couldn't imagne what would happen next.
Loved all the characters in is story too.
I hope you decide to read these books and that you enjoy them as much as I have.

An erotic Historical romance novella. Nicely written, although there were a few typos and I didn't really like the 'erotic' body part descriptions. Those words really are pretty cringe worthy for such an experienced author like Ms Mortimer to use, surely she could write erotic without using them - sounded pretty course for the sort of characters as well - being a Duke and a lady. The story/dialogue is a bit too liberal in thinking for 1817 too, but I guess - artistic licence. There are lots of internal musings by the H/h in this book, as is usual for this author, and I'm really not a fan of that these days. I did a double take however, when Emma mentioned Adam looked like a photograph she'd seen of the statue of David. In 1817...? That was cringeworthy to read from such an experienced Historical author... Never the less, I'll still keep reading her books. 🙂

IT WAS TOO SHORT TO FORM A FULL-FLEDGED OPINION. I did enjoy the dynamics between Emma and Adam, however, it felt like there was still a barrier and the love declaration at the end was unbelievably farfetched. If this had been written as a full length novel, I have no doubt we would have gotten a better story.

Adam pursued Emma because he was highly attracted to her, and the only way to have her, was to marry her. The story opens with Emma accusing him of having his cock sucked by his mistress in public, when it was a case of mistaken identity.

I did so adore Adam's possessiveness and austerity. My two weaknesses when it comes to a MMC. Such a shame the story was so short, it didn't have time enough to develop their relationship into one that has depth. Emma herself was no simpering miss even if she was shy and uncertain, and it fitted her innocence nicely.

My first book from Carole Mortimer. 1st in the INDECENT series. I have to admit I loved it. The see-saw game being played in the characters of Emma & Adam. I also enjoy that there wasn't too much drama in relation to the villains in the story.
Let's not forget the wonderful draw of Emma's innocence & enticing curiosity about what it's like to be with a man such as Adam. I enjoy the growing passion Adam & Emma have for each other.
Highly recommend the book, who knows what the other books in the series are like, with its hot and steamy love scenes. I guess I will have to purchase another book to find out. I enjoy the short easy read of the plot. Well done

Passionate from first to last page

This story starts after Adam and Emma are non officially engaged. I wasn't comfortable at first in how Adam is so aggressively high handed. Yet Emma, although naive, is smart and sassy and likes this attitude to an extent. She corrects and stands up for herself. So......by the time you get a VERY happy ending, it seems one can over look Adam's surliness. There's some steamy foreplay, no cheating or cliffhanger and a few glitches in proofreading. Enjoy!!

This was...something. He falls in love with her because he got a hard on because he liked her fruity smell. She mistakes his brother for him doing a sexual act at a ball. He basically blackmails her into fellatio. No seduction,no kiss. Get on your knees for your punishment for an honest mistake you apologized for. Forced seduction written right can be the hottest thing ever, but this was not it. The villain was ott and attempted murder by bees. This was like how a frozen dinner looks on the box, but so different when you make it.

Enjoyed the story and the characters of Emily and Adam. However the niggle I have about this (and others) is the lack of knowledge about historical romance genre ass she makes the mistake of incorporating modernism into it. Explicit language between the characters is more of a modern theme than of Regency times (other than in a men's club). Also the easier sexual relationships are more of a modern feel than of a historical one. However getting past that I did enjoy the story.

An unusual courtship

When Adam, Duke of Hawkwood asks her father for her hand in marriage, Emma doesn't understand why. When she mistakes him for someone else in an indecent encounter at a ball, it results in consequences for her berating. Lessons in sex. If Emma participates will Adam still want marriage. Passionate encounters with explicit sex between two stubborn people.
Excellent read!

This book is cheap pornography (emphasis on cheap) : the duke forces his virgin not-yet-fiancee to perform sexual acts on him on the flimsiest of pretexts, she complies because...well, we don't really know why, and it is supposed to turn the reader on.

Meh.

I let it drop after a few chapters.

There is nothing much in the story - just horny couple making an excuse just to have sex. It makes me uncomfortable when a couple declares that they love each other after interacting for only a short period of time. That is not love, that is just lust. Big difference.
