I’ve spent my life preparing to be alpha and uphold our pack’s traditions. Now I’m not sure how many of those traditions I believe in.
Every day I protect the illusion my father’s not sick and dying. Packs killing their alpha when they’re too weak to lead - that’s harder to swallow when it’s a choice you’re facing instead of a lesson you’re taught.
What kind of man would I be if I could turn on my own father like that?
But what kind of alpha can I be if I don’t?
Then there’s the omega pits. I never thought twice about the gladiator matches between packs’ weakest runts. Omegas who can’t survive the fights aren’t fit to bear our children.
So why do I step in to save Logan, a stranger whose own pack doesn’t even want him, when he can’t last two minutes in the pits on his own?
Is it my pathetic attempt to save anyone at all? A rebellion against traditions I now resent? Or something greater, the way his eyes find me through the crowd, how every time his lips part I hope it’s to call out my name?
And when he challenges my every belief with a ferocity fiercer than any he showed in the pits, I wonder:
If he’s a threat to everything I’m defending…am I defending the right things?
LOGAN
It’s never been a goal of mine to die young, its just always been a distinct possibility. Fun little side effect of being your pack’s weakest omega.
Its just the way the world is though, so I never spent much time railing against it.
So no one’s more shocked than me that I fight so hard against the inevitable when its my turn in the pits. Though I’m definitely not the only one shocked when Deacon Wythe steps in to save me.
It makes no sense. Why me? Why him? Why does he tolerate my petty sniping? Why can’t I stop trying to piss him off when all I want to do is kiss him?
But once I get that second chance, I hang onto it tooth and claw. Even challenging my own protector if that’s what it takes to stay alive. And when that leads to one night of confused passion and a child growing inside me?
If people were surprised how hard I fought to save myself, wait til they see what I’ll do to protect my new family.
This 50,000 word novel of werewolves, death matches and mpreg (oh my!) comes with a HEA and an ages eighteen and up label!
This book was a very refreshing take on shifter romances. I personally love every cliched thing about shifter romances but once in a while, it feels amazing to come across a book which tries to establish its own myth and take on the world of shifters, which brings me to the title of this book which seems like a misnomer since in the world of this book omegas don't go into heat, the author seems to use the word heat in the title in a general sense and not in the way you were probably thinking when you thought of First Heat in the context of a shifter romance.
In this world, omegas are pitted against each other in a battle of survival in bait pits. This was a pretty original take on shifters because while omegas being mistreated is often a part of many shifter books, this book pitted omegas against each other for entertainment. this lead to a very interesting dynamic between our main characters with Deacon and Logan on seemingly opposite sides of the debate which brought a lot of nuance to their romance, because for once it wasn't a case of love cures all.
I'm pretty used to Insta-mate if not outright Insta-love in shifter romances, so this was a novel experience for me, to have Logan debate if he wanted to spend his life with Deacon given their difference of opinions on something that mattered very dearly to Logan. I really loved Logan and his rational thinking, he always seems to have a clear head and I was very proud of how level-headed he was given his situation.
Deacon has very conservative and traditional views on the roles of Alphas and Omegas but despite all his flaws I really liked him as a character because of the fact that he was one of those people who genuinely have a good heart though they might be misguided in their opinions.
This book also deals with a lot of stuff I have never seen dealt with before in a shifter romance. Deacon's father dies during the course of this story and there is a lot of focus on this aspect of this story which was wonderful. Also, I liked the concept of ferals that this book introduced. All in all, this book had a lot of substance and it tackles a lot of issues without anything overwhelming the central romance which was amazing.
I really loved Logan and Deacon and I'm really looking forward to more in this series.
Deacon has spent his life preparing to take over his pack. Deacon can pretend day to day that his beloved father, and pack Alpha, isn’t dying but as the end nears, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to keep the secret of his father’s terminal illness.
The pack prides themselves on tradition. However, he is not so sure how many of those traditions he believes in anymore. Part of the pack’s tradition is to kill an Alpha too weak to lead. Deacon just can’t turn on his own father like that. His father is a legend among all packs and he wants him to die with his dignity.
Another tradition they have is the Omega pits, where only the strongest Omegas are left to keep their pack’s bloodlines strong. Deacon never thought twice about the need for the pits. He has no idea why he saved a stranger from the pits. All he knew was after looking into the stranger’s eyes; he had no choice but to save his life.
Logan’s family betrayed him in the most heinous way. He was ambushed by his family, bound and thrown into the Omega pits. It was never his goal to die young, but now that he was tied and at the mercy of another Omega hell bent on killing him, he saw no way out of the situation alive. He is surprised when Deacon comes to his rescue, stops the fight and takes him out of the pits.
Deacon takes Logan home and it doesn’t take long for Deacon to realize that Logan isn’t the typical Omega. Logan challenges Deacon at every turn. His views on the pits and equality towards Omegas make Deacon crazy, but there is no denying his attraction to Logan either. Despite butting heads with each other, underneath it all there is a mutual respect and love for one another that they will do anything to protect.
I will admit that I initially struggled in the beginning with the book. I am more of a traditional girl when it comes to shifter stories. Although I went in this with skepticism, I ended up really enjoying the story. The way shifters perceived Omegas was hard for me at first but as the story went on, I realized how integral a part it played in the grand scheme of things. There was a little disconnect between Deacon and Logan in the start but again, I think it worked with the progression of the story. Really enjoyable read.

i read this book as part of an arc program. In this book, Deacan is an alpha who is in line to take over the clan when his father dies. Deacan's father is sick with cancer and they are keeping it secret because there are other alphas who would challenge him for the position. Deacan goes to the omega pits, a place where the omegas fight each other in hopes of attracting an alpha, in hopes of finding a mate. Deacan sees Logan in the pits when Logan is thrown in tied up and left to fend for himself. Deacan is attracted to Logan and he stops the fight because he feels it was unfair with Logan tied while he was beaten. Deacan takes Logan home and arranges Mick, a doctor, to come and treat him. Logan is angry and never wanted to go to the omega pits, but his family tied him up and threw him in. Logan wonders why Deacan stopped the fight and wants to tell him he can look after himself, only Logan knows he has nowhere to go. Logan decides to stay to heal and Logan cooks and cleans Deacan's house in order to thank him for rescuing him. They have an attraction and finally give into their desires. things are going well between them, only Logan has a secret, he is feral and can't control it. When the pressure gets too much for Logan, he shifts and disappears, leaving Deacan to wonder if he is the reason why after they fight. i really liked this story. I really liked how Deacan never gave up on Logan. They were good for each other and i think Deacan needed to see things from the other sides of things. Good one.
Logan is an omega wolf and is looking to relax after a busy day on the boats with his family. When he walks into the kitchen he;s literally set upon by his entire family. He;s roped and hog tied and taken to the omega pits to fight. He really doesn;t want to go which is why he never voluntarily went as is the custom of the bayou.. He;s tossed into the battle area of the pit still tied up. Deacon, an alpha wolf, has come to the omega bait pit to see if there is an omega who will catch his eye. He wants to make his dying father happy. He sees the male tied up wolf being tossed in to fight without being untied. He heads down and rescues him. He takes him home still trying to figure out why in the world he did that. He calls for the dr to come exam him and to the dr it;s as plan as day that Deacon is taken with the omega. For the next few days the two come to learn a little bit about each other. Logan is a pacifist and would rather try rational sane methods instead of fighting. Deacon is an alpha through and through and would rather fight to settle issues. Then they go visit Deacon;s dads and after meeting Logan, the alpha of the pack passes away that night. Life becomes a series of misunderstandings and despair. Beautiful beautiful story of two people who have to find their way to each other in the case of one its the hard way. Fantastic story and read.

Logan is an omega, the first one in his family and they believe that he has to prove himself because of that. So, they decide to forcefully make him compete in the pits to prove that he is strong. When there he meets Deacon, the soon to be alpha of his pack, whom rescues him and helps him heal and recuperate. When they are together they realize that the natural connection that they share with each other is one of love. The pits are something that most omegas fear, for they are something that can end or destroy their lives. Logan hopes that his relationship with Deacon can help to close them down so that no other omega will have to go through what he did. I really enjoyed reading this book and I am glad that I got the chance to experience Logan's pains and experiences along side him. The book and the characters were very well written. The characters were full of the feeling of being real and and being full of life. like they had the experience of life behind them. The characters created feelings of empathy within me and I was able to understand and experience their pain, love and laughter along with them.

Wow this is an amazing read Preston Walker brings out hit after hit and this story First Heat is no exception. This story starts off with Logan who is an alpha gets attacked and tied up by his family then they throw him in a fighting ring, it is where other omega’s fight each other for dominance and more often than not the loser is killed. Logan was still tied up when a very large omega attacked him he couldn’t do anything and he thought that he was going to die but then an alpha ( Decon ) demanded that the cage door opened because as soon as he saw the omega all tied up and getting thrown around Cecon had to go in and save him. Because Decon is an alpha they were going to do what they were told and open that gate plus the fight was far from being fair. That’s all I’m going to give you guys but there is so much more to this story to keep you entertained and turning the pages I absolutely loved this story. A fantastic story a 5 plus +++++ ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Logan's own family delivered him to the omega bait pit but Deacon rescues him. As Logan came in from a day working on the family fishing boat showered and went into the kitchen for food when his family jumped him beating before wrapping him in rope. gagging and blindfolding him. They then dragged him out and chucked him in the back of the truck. When they dragged him out again he was dragged then thrown on the ground someone took off his blindfold and gag. He looked around realizing he was in the Bayou Beauties Omega Bait Pit and about to be attacked by another omega already worked up from the earlier fights while still tied up and knew he was going to die. Alpha wolf Deacon goes to the Omega pit with a friend but when he sees an omega thrown in while tied up he knows thin is a fight with no honor so he stops it and takes the omega home to deal with injuries. A MM MPreg shifter romance to relax and enjoy.

Logan, an omega, is beaten and tied up by his family and sent to the bait pit to fight for his life. Deacon, an alpha, is there to see if any omega's catch his eye. He's looking for a mate. Once he sees Logan, who is tied up and unable to defend himself, he stops the fight and takes him home. But their personalities clash and the alpha tires to rule over the omega, causing quite a disruption in the pack.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a slow burn, but kept growing, which was fun. I loved how much Logan wanted to protect his future cubs and the other omegas. Deacon seemed like less of an alpha at times, which was annoying, but I was glad he took his omega father's advice, staying true to his alpha father. All in all, I'd recommend it.
I fell in love with these characters right away. Logan for his personality and his inner strength and Deacon for his strong will and yet the heart to know when there needs to be change. This book is a roller coaster of emotions and hard to put down, you feel the pain and the love, and the urge to yell at Deacon for being hard headed. Logan was betrayed by his family and brought to the Omega Bait Pit. A dangerous, horrifying tradition were the omegas were sent to fight each other to weed out the weak. Saved by Deacon, who believed in the tradtions but could not stand by and watch Logan get killed. Their story is amazing and shows that fighting for what is right is more important than old traditions. Loved the HEA.

This was a little darker than some of the other Preston Walker books I've read, but I liked it. In most MM Omegaverse books, the Omegas are cherished and protected. In this one, Omegas are tossed into a pit to fight or die. This is some barbaric practice to make sure that they are passing on the best genes. Logan's family has always been ashamed of the fact that he's an Omega, so they beat him, tie him up, and toss him in the ring. Deacon is there, sees Logan and has to save him.
Ok, Deacon is an alpha-hole at times. He tries to be better, but then, he just becomes a massive alpha-hole. It's like he can't even hear himself or how he sounds. Good for Howie and smacking him around. I don't blame Logan for being mad at all.
The fights at the Bayou Beauties Bait Pits are to determine who are the strongest omegas, and therefore the best bloodlines for the Alfa’s to breed with. Logan was tied up by his family and driven to fight in the bait pits, unfortunately they didnt remove the ropes, so the fight was never going to end well for him. Alfa Deacon and a group of his peers go to watch the fights, and after locking eyes with Logan, Deacon rushes to stop Logan from being killed. Logan has a forceful personality, for an omega, but that is because he has something to hide. A really enjoyable read, hopefully there will be more stories from this pack.

I loved the plotline of this book, the concept of how omegas area treated and the alphas they met. Simply because it's something new to read and it was very enjoyable. The author always has new ideas for shifters and they are all enjoyable.
Character breakdown;
Deacon: not your typical alpha despite his traditional views. I liked him though liked how he loved his parents and his mate. That he found his strength when he thought he didn't have it in him.
Logan: I loved the whole feral omega thing, I actually got a kick out of reading the feral wolf inside of Logan he was funny.
The book had enough of everything you expect from this author a new concept and a new view on shifters alpha/omega dynamics.
Deacon has a lot of pressure on him but he seems to waffle when it comes to difficult choices. Does he want to assume his pack's pocket of alpha, does he want to end The Bayou Beauties Omega Bait Pit, does he want to break with tradition? All these thoughts collide in his head when he sees Logan bound, gagged, and blindfolded in that infamous ring. As for Logan he has been cruelly betrayed by his alpha family only because he's an omega. But Lucas is strong 💪 in his own right and survives his plight with the intervention of Deacon. What ensues is a butting of heads and a fighting between two strong willed wolves over what is the right and just treatment of the pack's omegas. A strong story
I enjoyed this story immensely, any story that doesn't use the typical formula of two boys meet, they fall for each other quickly, there's a stupid misunderstanding, they realize they're miserable but too stubborn to admit it, and then they finally have their HEA. That formula gets boring. I loved that Logan was presented as a smart, strong, and capable Omega. Deacon was your typical Alpha until he met and learned to see things through Logan's eyes. I would recommend this if you want a quick and sexy read.

Logan is an omega sent to the Omega Pits by his family to fight to his death. Deacon is the Alpha who comes to his rescue.they come together and soon a baby is on the way. But the happily ever after isn't going to come easy. They come from different worlds and have different views... They will need to learn from each other to find a way to stay together.
I really enjoyed this story. The characters were interesting and likeable. Their love story entertaining, sweet and sexy.

Very good storyline. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it at first, but as I kept reading, I really started to get into the story. I liked the idea that violence is not always the answer to one's problems and you need to listen to others as well and not let yourself think everyone is there to obey your every command. I felt a great deal of sympathy for Logan the omega, and I sometimes wanted to smack Deacon, the alpha, up side the head. It was definitely worth the read. Happy endings are nice too!

His father is alpha but he is dying and he has to keep the pretence that everything is alright. Will he kill his father to be alpha? He is getting annoyed with all the traditions especially the arena where the one has fight. He steps I to save one but has no idea why. It seems they have a connection . They have no idea why as they are both male. Now one is having a baby. Follow them as they come to terms with everything

This book was brilliant, I completely fell in love with Logan. Deacon aswell but he had to grow on me a little. It really was a touching journey this book. Preston Walker is a very talented writter abd he certainly delivered with this book just as strongly as he always does. If you haven't already read he books before this is definitely a good one to start with. I highly recommend this book, grab it immediately you won't regret it.

I love the the two MC in the book, both alpha and omega went through a lot of pain and suffering. Imagine two omegas fighting each other for their life, to see if their blood line is strong. That what a omega had to do to prove they were not weak, but strong enough to carry on the packs blood line. It took an omega going feral to prove a century old tradition was hurtful to all omegas, which caused so many to lose their lives. I hope there is another book out already, I would like to see what happens next with the pack.
I didn't mind the story but it became distracting having to stop and get to figure out what was meant. This book could do with quite a bit of editing or proof reading. I didn't mind Logan but Deacon was really a douche it was just reading about an entitled overgrown brat basically. for an alpha he did quite a bit of sulking and crying which was in total conflict with his beliefs and attitude. All in all it was ok but I don't feel connected to any of the characters and wasn't that enthralled to get the second book.
I thought the story was awesome. Very different to other shifter stories I have read. I do feel that there was a part in the book, a fight that comes up about 70% into the book, that seemed rushed and did not seem to quite fit into the story much. It is probably the reason I do not give the book the full 5 stars, but other than that I really liked the book. Probably one I would not mind rereading again.

Logan an omega wolf, tied up and thrown into a omega bait pit, where omega fight to the death, only he can't fight tied up. Deacon an alpha watching the omega fights, he sees them throw Logan into the pit and needs to save him. He rescues Logan and takes him home with him. This starts an adventure for both them, as theyou explore omega baiting and violence in there culture.

Fantastic emotion-filled shifter story with Alpha/Omega and pack dynamics, family betrayal, rivalry, and conflicting opinions about tradition and what is right. The main characters had great chemistry, and I enjoyed watching Deacon and Logan work through their issues. This is another great story from Preston Walker!
