BOOK REVIEW – Tangled Web (Tangled Web #1) – Jade C.Jamison – 4.5*
I’ve said it before and I will say it again; Jade C. Jamison is a rock star in her own right. She’s the Les in Paul, the Lita in Ford and the Achilles in my Heel. Damn, that woman knows how to pull off a rock star romance. Since reading Bullet, (which blew my socks off by the way), Jade has fast become one of my favourite writers in the rock ‘n’ roll romance genre. Every story I have read of hers categorically delivers in the ‘believability factor’ with characters that are strong and likeable. But her strongest talents lie in her ability to portray emotion. With her books you experience it all; Lust, confusion, helplessness, fear and love. Her intimate scenes are something to write home about too as they are not sordid in anyway, but beautiful and real, enabling the reader to fully appreciate the characters and connect with them on a personal level.

Tangled Web is a romantic novella, written in past and present tense, based on two best friends who connected early in childhood. Johnny Church was a gangly kid who barely made it through school – more interested in playing computer games and learning the guitar.
Katie Logan was a bright, yet shy girl with good grades and a secret love for Heavy Metal.
With hormones making an appearance in high school and with Johnny’s first battle of the bands gig, Katie starts to see her best friend in an all new light, there’s only one problem - he’s doesn’t appear to be interested. Katie believes that he views her more as a sister than a potential love interest and as his newfound High School popularity sores, its obvious Johnny isn’t lacking attention from the other female students, including all ‘those’ beautiful and unrelenting cheerleaders.
Now, years later… Johnny is a successful lead Guitarist going by the name of J.C. Gibson, touring the world and continuing to entertain hoards of fans at every tour pit stop. He is living the life he always dreamed.
Katie on the other hand has hit stalemate. Her life is boring. Her dream of becoming a writer has passed her by, as she struggles to cope with her job in Child Protection Services. She lives in a big house, with Sam, her cat, and a fiancé who is never home due to work commitments. Her only solace is escaping into the confines of a book with a glass of wine as she unwinds from her emotional and stress-filled day.
It’s been a year or so since she last saw Johnny, as he likes to darken her doorstep on rare occasion when passing through town, this time being no exception. A knock indicates a surprise visit and she is relieved to see him alive and well (unlike the last time), as they spend the evening together like old times. Two best-friends reconnecting and sharing beer and pizza, everything the same as it once was.
Until…
They kiss…
With past feelings re-emerging, an overwhelming need prevails as they both conclude their evening together tangled in Katie’s bed sheets.
But… Katie is engaged to another and as guilt rears its head and she admits to Johnny of her circumstances, he looks crushed. As he walks out of her door a second time, Katie believes she has lost the one person she loved the most…
Hurt, alone and feeling isolated, Katie succumbs to the realisation that she is unhappy with her life, which in turn, spurns her forward as she makes some life-altering decisions - but first she needs to reconcile with her best friend, she just hopes he is more than willing to listen… and forgive.

Being a Novella, Tangled Web is a fast paced read, making no concessions about how the Rock ‘n’ Roll lifestyle can, at times, darken the brightest of doorways. Be prepared to read about sex, drugs, and how Toxicity was the best album that System of a Down ever produced. Yes… I agree with you entirely, Mr Gibson!
Rock/Metal romance junkies, please make sure you add Jade to your To-Read shelf if you haven’t already. You will be sorely disappointed if you don’t!
The description of 'steamy' is highly incorrect. I hate when all I can really say about a book is that it's O.K. This book is alright...it's got the depth of a story line but it's all mixed up. It goes from one chapter of them as kids and then next as 30 something adults and back to them as kids and so on and so forth. Eventually, it just starts to irk you and it seems to slow the story down. I bought it off of amazon, but if I'd known then what I know now, I probably would have gone with something else. If the author re edits the book, it probably would be 10 times better but as is...no thanks.
Category /Genre: Romance Received from: Jade C. Jamison in exchange for an honest review Recommended for: 18 + due to adult situations and sexual content Grammar/editing: A – near perfect
Katie Logan works for Child Protective Services and is engaged to her supervisor, Grant. Katie labels it an inevitable engagement after three years of dating. She knows that the reason she is thirty-four and never been engaged before is because she has always compared every man to her best friend from childhood, Johnny Church. Johnny is now a rock star. One night, when Grant is out of town, Johnny shows up and sparks fly. Neither realizes that the other has fantasized about them ever since high school. Now, what about Grant?
I read this book two months ago, and for some reason never got the review written up. Today, I was spending time cleaning up files on my computer and the half-file was a reminder. I realized, I didn’t even need to pick up the book, I remember everything about this story. I think that says a lot about it. I loved Johnny and identify well with “goody two shoes” Katie who has dropped herself into an emotional cauldron. The book is extremely well-written with a comfortable, believable pace of story.
This is a stand-alone book from one of my favorite authors, Jade C. Jamison. Well, it was supposed to be, but sometimes the fans demand, and, even better, the author capitulates. So this is now the first in a series. The next book is a follow-up called EVERYTHING BUT. I will be reading and reviewing the follow-up sometime in February. In fact, I have dedicated one full week to catching up on Jade’s books and series and I am looking forward to it!
Katie and Johnny had been best friends since grade school but as they grew up and adolescence hit things began to change in their friendship that neither of them would admit to. They didn’t want to ruin that special friendship bond that they had for so long. Johnny’s main focus in high school was forming a rock band and trying to make it big and Katie was there supporting him the whole time. Little did she know that by supporting Johnny’s dream she would have to put up with that old adage of sex, drugs, and rock’n roll. Johnny had his groupies even in high school and Katie was always in the background playing the best friend role even though she wanted something much deeper with Johnny. The question was if Katie was ready to give up this special friendship in case Johnny didn’t have the same feelings as she did. She could only assume that Johnny didn’t look at her as anything other than a friend because he was too busy getting down to business with all of the girls that surrounded him since his band was beginning to take off.
Johnny shows up at Katie’s door years later but Katie has had a lot of things that have happened in her life since Johnny’s been gone. A job which she hates and a fiancé that she doesn’t have that spark for but how was Johnny to know any of this especially when Katie isn’t forthcoming with this info. Is Katie going to tell Johnny about her fiancé before one thing leads to another or isn’t Katie ready to take that chance yet of losing Johnny’s friendship? This story is about two people who lost a lot of time because neither of them was honest with each other. It was a quick read and had me captivated the whole time. I fell in love with Johnny and Katie and I was rooting for them the whole time. This is a great rock romance!
I noticed a lot of people gave it a bad review....seriously? It was FREE (or 99 cents if you missed the deal) you unappreciative pricks! Really, tell me where else you're gonna find a new book for 99 freakin' cents???? An ADULT book not a children's book....I'm waiting........go ahead........take your time.........can't think of one can you? Exactly!!!! If you're THAT unhappy then take your 99 cents and go to Goodwill!!!! Or spend MORE money and get a well known author's work.
This was a cute story about Katie and Johnny, two best friends who grew up together. Katie had a crush on him all through High School but he never looked at her "that way"....or so she thought. Flash forward years and Johnny is a "famous" guitar player, Katie works (unhappily) for Child Protective Services in their hometown and is engaged to be married. Long story short, he comes home to visit, they spend time together remembering old times, she never tells him about her engagement, they end up in bed but then he finds out about her fiance. Then it's all "the usual" trials to get them back together.
For free (or 99 cents) I thought it was a GREAT "Sit outside in the sun with a cold drink and read" kind of book! Nothing too heavy that you're struggling to keep track of, you could just sit out in the sun and relax while reading - no thinking required! And honestly? That's all I ask of my "beach books". Be forewarned though, if you don't like to read about sex this may not be for you. Nothing outrageous but still a scene in here for those of you that are "faint of heart" LOL
Jade C. Jamison never ceases to amaze me, all of her books are absolutely amazing! We all know Jade is known for her Rocker stories but each one is always different and she just draws you. Reading the Tangled Wed Series I couldn't put any of these books down. I was completely captivated by each and every one of these characters and their story. The best part was reading how it all fell together.
Tangled Web (Book 1) is about Johnny and Katie. Johnny was part of a band Spawn who started in high school and continued into stardom from there. This his how he ended up being known as J.C. Church. Katie and Johnny were best friends since they were kids, things never went into the relationship territory because they never had those types of feelings. That was until Katie saw Spawn perform at the talent show, she fell in love with Johnny and wanted to be with him. Only he never showed the same feelings, so Katie loved from afar. After becoming famous Johnny started getting into a lot of different things including drugs, alcohol, and women. Johnny came to Katie to help him recover and rid his issues, seeing this side helped Katie realize she needed to move on. Then Johnny showed up once again only this time the crossed over the line of friends. Katie , being engaged, felt horrible for what she had done. Only not as horrible as Johnny felt when he realized he lost the one person he wanted the most. Everything changed that one night, never to be the same. Johnny and Katie waited forever to be together only to end up apart.
Johnny and Katie are best friends who secretly were in love with one another but to scared to ever tell one another. 15 years later they have a love filled night very unexpected and guilt eats at Katie for reasons she should have disclosed. Still friends kind of after that debacle they see each other again and they decide to spell their love out to one another. Hopefully this goes well. Needed to be a longer story. But it was sweet and showed you can follow your dream know matter you'd age.
I love the best friends to lovers trope and this one delivers exceptionally well. Johnny and Katie have been best friends since middle school, both secretly in love with the other but unwilling to admit it for fear of ruining their friendship. As adults, Katie is a social worker in a job that is sucking the life out of her while Johnny enjoys the fame of being a founder and lead guitarist of Spawn (of Satan—they dropped this part of their name when they left Winchester, their hometown), a heavy metal band (Ms. Jamison’s favorite kind).
As an aside, any author who can work the word “semaphoring” into her work without it seeming out of place wins high marks in my book.
Both characters are endearing and relatable and it hurts to see them misunderstanding one another. I was surprised by the amount of time that transpired between their most significant misunderstanding and eventual resolution. Naturally, they figure things out, and then they can laugh about all the time they wasted. After a great deal of pain, for both of them, it’s eventually a fun story with a happy ending.
I won this in a contest and was able to read it in under a day.
When 34 yr old social worker Katie's best friend and rock star Johnny aka J.C. Gibson comes home for a visit, Katie's safe and stable life gets turned around on her own accord. There are a couple of comments that make Katie feel old, but they more serve as a reminder to how "comfortable" her life has become and not like she wanted it.
Never having had the guts to tell her long time friend how she felt, and watching him screw groupie after groupie (b/c you know, God forbid a rock star NOT stick it in everything and have some respect for himself...) a long night of drinking finally invites the inevitable. After coming clean to her (now former) fiance', Katie reevaluates her "safe" life. However, Johnny also seems hurt that she didn't tell him she was engaged. Soon, she realizes the mistake she made may have just been the best thing that ever happened to her. She now finally has the courage to leave her comfortable job, go back to college for the degree she really wanted and live on her own. She has always been there for her friend and helps him battle drug addiction and various levels of fame.
After a second tryst in a dressing room after a concert it seems no one can come clean about how they feel. After they do decide to talk, each one finds out how the other feels. Johnny's response to Katie's having to endure all the random chicks is "you don't just fuck the woman you love". Oh no. Because if you can't have the one you love keeping it in your pants isn't an option??? God friggin' forbid a woman behave that way! Move on to...
...HEA (?)where they decide they're going to give dating a try.
It was a cute little story that basically says open your friggin' mouth! If you aren't honest no one wins.
I would have given this a 4, but it was a bit confusing trying to figure out when it was present time and when it was a flashback. It would have been nice if the flashback were in italics to decipher, but that's my only real complaint.
WOW...ok...first of all I think I did things a little backwards (but hey, no apologies, I do it all the time)...I read BULLET, ROCK BOTTOM and FEVERISH first and then went back and bought Jamison's first 2 rock books Tangled Web and Everything But. It was like going from tequila shots to lemon lime punch...LOL...but it was still oh so satisfying! First of all I really love a good hard rocker romance (give me a dirty biker book or a rock band saga and I am a happy woman) and while this earlier work did not have the gritty, raw and dangerous feel of the Bullet series, it was a really hot (at times sweet) and very believable honest love story about two long time friends who realize later in life they were both keeping their feelings hidden from each other. It is pure pleasure when they reconnect and I felt such a connection to Katie (could totally understand her reluctance to keep living a boring lie) but of course the path to true love is never without some bumps in the road, and Jamison can write some really intense scenes. While this book is a lot cleaner than most rocker stories, there are still a few knock your socks off bedroom (and other room!!) scenes and they will not disappoint. Quality, not quantity but enough for this short book.
Ok I loved the nikki Sosbee books, So i gave this one a try.. Its a good book a lil different from what i read, but why i gave it 3 stars it because i found myself getting lost. she wrote it in present and past tense, and I would be reading a chapter and i would be thinking it was present time, then to find out its past, i was hard to keep up, i mean it was to much back and forth, But is a cute read.
I read it in an hour, and honestly already forgot most of it from a few hours ago. Could have been a decent book but the author switched from different time periods throughout the book and it was very confusing. The story potential was good, but it all happened too quick. There was more flashbacks than current story.
There were some very steamy scenes in Tangled Web, but things just did not flow. There were flashbacks that I felt detracted from the modern tale. There were also some time gaps where I felt as though a big chunk of time passed. The actions of the main character also seemed unrealistic in places, especially for her age. It was okay. Towards the middle and the end were good enough.
This was pitched as steamy romance. It wasn't. It was a second chance romance if anything and not a great one. There was cheating in this story, which I'm not the biggest fan of and the female main character just had the shittiest personality ever.
Wow, i fell in love with Johnny Church. So happy that there was so much more between them. Loved when he asked her to answer this question honestly did you miss me?? Now that just made me smile
Cute story. Got a little confusing when it would go back and forth between childhood and present time. But I caught up! Liked it especially for the price.
When I’m in the mood for a fun rockstar romance, I always pull out one of Jade’s.
Having started with “Bullet”, her grittier, more true to life series, Tangled Web is a Rockstar-Lite series. While still good, it’s obvious that Jade was just beginning to find her “voice” and style as a published writer when this was released.
Tangled Web’s lack of scene transitions, character building, and pacing (time lapses) show some of the challenges Jade had to work on. Her newer books show she took those lessons to heart and perfected the formula to be one of the best Rock Star Romance Writers around.
Friends to Lovers Another intriguing rock star read from Jade C. Jamison. Kate and Johnny have been best friends since elementary school even though the last fifteen years they have hardly seen each other. When Johnny turns up at Katie’s door one night he turns her life into a spinning ball. Will they ever be best friends again or has she lost Johnny forever? Lots of emotion and steam in this one. Looking forward to reading more in this series! I received a copy of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.
tw substance abuse id say 3.5 stars maybe but this novella opening with her job at cps detailing a maybe predator groping a child and then never having anything to do with the story again was a weird mood to start with. with that being said, i enjoyed this for the most part. i felt johnny and katie’s connection conveyed better with alternating timelines but can see why that might steer some readers away
This was a gift that had been on my kindle for a while and finally decided to finish it. This is a story about childhood friends that come together as adults and have to learn how to love each other. I did enjoy the story but it kept jumping from past to present with no warning it made it hard to follow at times.
Wow, just wow! Kati and Johnny’s story was a little slow to start. It just took a while for me to get into it. I was very sad for Kati that she couldn’t express herself and tell Johnny how she felt. Johnny just seemed so indifferent. Can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.
Jade could have received five stars if she would have had an editor go over her book. There are skipped words that make reading a challenge in places. But the story was fascinating and a good lesson on why communication is so very important in a relationship. I really want to know what happens to this couple!
But boy talk about miscommunication these guys wasted so many years. In the meantime he was with lots of girls. I think he was a little unfeeling in how he treated her at times and they rarely saw each other. I had a hard time seeing the romance until the very end. I didn't think he would treat her the way he did. Wish there was more to their story.
The story is good, the erotic scenes tastefully written, and I quite enjoyed this read. Tangled Web has the potential to be a really good romance, but it left me wanting more.
What happens when two people are afraid to admit their feelings for years? A “Tangled Web” for sure! J.C. and Katie are prime examples in this great read from Jade C. Jamison. This is a great afternoon read that doesn’t disappoint!
Katie and Johnny best friends since public school. And then friends forever until...their lives went in separate directions but always remained best friends. And then.... I do not want to give too much away. A really cute novella on my favorite genre rockstar romances. A definite good read.
