Re-reading this children's series of books from my childhood and really enjoying them for what they are - a good adventure childrens series. I really love that the books are set where I live, in Dunfermline, Scotland. The writing style is simple enough yet the story is gripping. Lots of characters but not too many. Recommend for children and young adults alike.

i love me a good kid's book, especially after straining my mind with something tougher. This one was almost a little too hinkey in the beginning but by the end - the massively awesome cliffhanger had me gaping in surprise and on a mission to find the next story. it was interesting, the history of the wars in Scotland. don't know how much or any of it is truth or historically accurate but it got me interested in what is actually part of my own lineage, and i figure the desire to learn more is what a good book is all about. go Peter Donaldson!

I read this book as just a break from the norm but as it came to the end I realised it was fairly pleasant and I would read the next book from Colin. :)
