Mortality Bites #3

Superhero Me!

Rate this book
Superheroes, yuck …

What’s the expression again? “With great power comes a great pain in my ass.” And in a world where just about everything but superheroes exists, the last thing I expected to see was one flying around the park behind my dorm.

I mean, isn’t it enough that this GoneGod world is filled with ghosts and demons, angels and valkyries, pixies and dragons? Do we really need souped-up humans, too? Come on!

But that’s just the thing: superheroes don’t exist. Or at least, they shouldn’t. So when all sorts of superheroes start popping up on campus, fighting amongst themselves with such ferocity that they’re threatening the city, I have to don my own mask and cowl to figure out what’s going on.

I’m Katrina Darling, a three-hundred-year-old ex-vampire who believes in ghosts, but not superheroes.

Angels, werewolves, vampires and pixies all exist, but Superheroes aren't real. Obviously Kat would know, she's been around hundreds of years! So then who is this boy flying around in a leotard and cape? And who or what is this mysteriously human looking girl around campus, could she be involved somehow? Kat now has to deal with all the superheroes suddenly popping up on campus, who don't quite know whether she's good or evil. Also her boyfriend wants to get involved when all she wants to do is keep him safe, but when his own powers manifest she doesn't have much choice.

I’ve begun to see a pattern here. I’m okay with cliches, but don’t be afraid to kill off a character. ~ Perhaps it was just me but the all’s well that ends well chapter just felt completely off.

Great plot otherwise. I enjoyed the mythological references immensely.

Katrina Darling is back for a third adventure. This time superheroes are popping up on campus with seemingly magic-like powers. The only problem is that in this GoneGod world, there is almost no magic left so where are they getting their powers? Also, if there are superheroes, you just know their will be a supervillain or two lurking somewhere around. So how can a former vampire live her normal university life (with some nightly vigilante justice with her friends) with all of these superheroes running around?

This story was really clever. I enjoyed the way that Ramy Vance worked superhero characters into the story without violating his own rules for his world setting. The superheroes were a little over the top (like most superheroes are) and added a lot of fun to an already fun series.
The main characters all get to be expanded a little more in this story which just helps the readers to like them even more. I am really looking forward to having stories that expand on the histories of Kat's friends. Both Egya and Deidre should have a skeleton or two in their closets that could pop out and give us a good story while telling us more about them. Speaking of future stories, Ramy Vance drops some tasty clues to what could be happening soon. This series just keeps getting better.

Superheroes considered pests?

In Kat's point of view they are or more importantly they defy the rules of magic.

The hilarity of Kat dealing with a group of teens gone superhero had me in stitches. If it wasn't one thing it was another as more teen superheroes popped up out of nowhere.

On another note the tone of this series is starting to get serious as Kat is reminded of her past in a more personal manner. Will she continue to ignore the issue or face it head on?

Loved this one. Can't wait for the next book in the series Mortality Bites.

Kat and the misfit superheroes

I am hooked! I've been reeled into this series and I can't stop reading, one after another lol There is something by the end of each book that sets up the next and it's a given! I have to know what happens. Highly addictive, is compare it to a cozy mystery but it's so much more nonetheless that's what they remind me of and I love them! This one was another action packed mystery with Kat and some misfit superheroes that save the day or the university as it is.

As the third book in the series, I was expecting a lull. In this wonderful urban fantasy world where I had come to love the idea that once mythical creatures were now very real and just trying to get through their now mortal life like the rest of us, I really wasn't expecting a story about superheroes to work. But it really, really does. Ramy is not afraid to touch on the darker side of real life human society in this book while maintaining his humour and overall pace of adventure. Loved it!

I didn't expect to like this one as much as the previous books, as I didn't see how the key superpowers concept could play all that well. I needn't have worried, although how Ramy Vance comes up with his narrative concepts and devices, and blends them together so well, is beyond me.

I recommend these books without hesitation to anybody, which is funny when you think about it, given they are notionally part of a very distinct (even niche?) genre. I just struggle to imagine who -wouldn't- enjoy this series. Clever and fun as ever, but too bloody short again. Next one soon please!

Super crazy things are happening in Toronto!

College life is eventful enough without superheroes popping up out of nowhere! This author has plenty of imagination to fuel this books and this one has a very unique storyline that doesn't let up for a second. A great addition to the GoneGod world

Action packed. A bit of dry humor. A fast-moving tale about superheroes invading the college campus. Our lovable hero Kat Darling has to figure out what's going on and save the day. Who knew life on a college campus could be so exciting and entertaining. A must read.

Superheroes here, Superheroes there, Superheroes everywhere. Some are good and some are not. Watching Kat work to save the campus and her friends wore me out! Lots of action with unexpected twists and turns kept me guessing what might occur next. Even the ending was unexpected as it was happening.

Delightful light hearted story about Superheroes. Not my usual genre but found it fascinating.

With so many Others taking up time, and space, in Kat's life, her Uni, and her relationships with Justin, Deirdre, and the rest of her closest friends, are starting to suffer.

But, despite being Human again, Kat still hankers for her time as a Vampire. But that life is gone now, and so, when students start appearing, dressed as their favourite Super Heroes, Kat thinks it's a stunt - until one of them tries to kill her - as he shoots through the sky towards her!

Kat knows, positively, that this can't be true. There may be plenty of different types of Others but, in her 318 years, she had never met a Human Super Hero!

When things become ever stranger, Kat, Deirdre, and Egya start to investigate but, when Justin, who had become very close to her, starts asking to be involved, too, Kat eventually gives in, and says yes.

But what begins to happen next, turns her whole life upside down, once more!

Once again, Ramy Vance grabbed my attention, then went running off, making me work to keep up with his plot-lines! Lol

I thoroughly enjoyed the third book of this series, and can't wait to start reading Book Four: 'Orphaned Follies'!

Once I've read this, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I thought about this riveting series of books!

Superhero Me! throws the reader immediately into the action. Students at McGill University have suddenly started using mysterious super powers, or is this just another consequence of Vance’s GoneGod World? It isn’t exactly clear at first, but that is my only major criticism of the third installment of the Mortality Bites series. If the reader accepts that a bunch of knock-off superheroes students are creating havoc in an attempt to do good without a solid explanation up front, then you’ll have fun with the rest.

Things really begin to come together in Superhero Me!, and a bigger plot is expertly revealed. Elements from earlier books return, which tempts the reader with the deeper mystery that awaits them. Vance delivers again with his wonderful flair for taking bits of historic/mythic lore from a myriad of cultures, and weaving them seamlessly and cleverly into his world. It seems the fun has only just begun. After finishing this, I cannot wait for the release of the next!

Mash-up superheroes, "Evil in a Box" , and plans gone awry

Superheroes in the GoneGod world seems far fetched, until it doesn't. Vance is able to flawlessly instill this concept. This book has a different tone and mood, especially towards the end. Cassy, a new character that's introduced, definitely leaves a lasting impression. Surprisingly Justin plays a more prominent role besides boyfriend extraordinaire. As always, great dialogue, action, awkward Kat think alouds, and throw back references (never mind D&D, hello Legally Blond?).

Superhero Me! By Ramy Vance
Honestly I couldnt even finish this book which makes me so sad. The first two were free on audible and were good with a lot of possibilities but I feel like it went downhill in this 3rd book. It's been awhile since I've stopped reading a book which is also why I gave it such a low rating.

So much Res a lot to work out, secrets and mysteries to solve. I’m enjoying how Kat and her friends are working more as a team and growing personally. There’s one heck of an epilogue, leaving me almost desperate to read Orphan Follies.

Loved, loved, loved this book! I didn't want to put it down. Fast paced and interesting. Definitely a must read and I definitely must start reading the next book. What is going to happen next to Kat, Justin and the gang? I can't wait to find out!

This was horrible. The premise was eh. The execution confusing. And the characters annoying. I downloaded the 6 book box set so I’ll read #3. But if it’s as bad as this one, I’m not moving on to #4

Such a good book. I'm twitching to start the next one already. (Thankfully I own it so I will be doing so shortly). I love the twists and turns and challenges. It's all just amazing.

I liked the book but I found consistency errors. I thought ghouls had become human again in the first two books.

Superhero Me! is the third book in the series Mortality Bites by Ramy Vance. The author came up with another fun plot that was entertaining from the beginning until the end. Somehow the author always has something new and different and this one does not disappoint. This book pretty much reads in one sitting and has a very good pace to it, never dragging out nor does it every feel like the author is rushing you through the story. There are some nice twists Ramy Vance style hidden in this book, which are always a plus.

Kat Darling is not your typical heroine of any story, but she is very fun and that is what makes these books great to read. It seems she is always a step ahead of the reader though. I really like her sidekick Deidre who seems to struggle with this GoneGodWorld and her way to deal with it always gives me a little chuckle here and there.

This one is definitely an interesting "whose done it" and I for one will see where this series will take me next.

New twists and turns

Another thoroughly enjoyable couple of installments in the story. New lore, twists and turns, and development of the rules of this world. I'm looking forward to number 5!
