Thinking Racehorse

Rate this book
There are so many great stories of racehorses getting injured, then returning to the famous Grand National racecourse to win the prestigious race, yet this is no ordinary story. This isn't a tale told by the owner, the jockey or even the trainer, it's the story of the horse - Delivered straight from the horses mouth! Follow the comical journey of Chakalak, bred purely to be a champion racehorse, yet no-one has told him this yet.

I've never been a man into horse racing, but being aware of Jimmy's writing, I thought I would give it a go. How pleased was I that I did? It's a fast paced, tiny book, that is action packed full of horse racing humour. It's not as complexed as his other books, which gently breaks you into the laugher. If you want predictable, this isn't a book for you, because even when I predicted the ending, I got it horribly wrong. Great laugh, funny read. Why am I wanting more of a topic that doesn't really interest me?

i am already a fan of this author after reading his comedy Battersea Parker, but for me, this is his best book yet. I love horse racing and everything to do with it. There are not enough horse racing related books out there, and certainly not in the form of comedy. This was a great take on what a horse might think with so many laughs inside. A must read for anyone into racing, and who likes a good laugh

What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said in reviews already. It's a little childish, it's a little rude, it's just a comedy about a THINKING racehorse. That's it, a short story about a horse heading for the Grand National and all the things he would encounter as a horse on the way. Fun, witty, crude in place - Just a lot of fun, crammed inside a tiny book.

After reading this authors first series of books called Battersea Parker, I knew what to expect with this one, the same old one-lines, jokes and smutty content. What I didn't expect was a horse that thinks for himself!! I thought at best, this would be a witty little book about the sex lives of the stable staff, however it was all about the horse from start to finish. Yes, the stable staff do engage in some naughtiness of their own, but the horse's reaction to this is very funny indeed. Some on the names he comes out for at the staff is so very clever.

This by far is the best Tudeski book I've read to date. Maybe a little on the short side, but so very entertaining. It was a joy to read and I loved some of the pictures inside the book.

Never have I ever been to the horse track and never have I understood anything about horse racing. For me, despite this book being set in Liverpool, England, it was an enjoyable read. Away from the racing, the horse had many opinions on certain things in life, which made this book incredibly funny and not all about the sport. Daisy's bush, the sheep, everything screamed out slapstick comedy to me. Whereas the Battersea Parker series slaps you in the face with its brutal comedy chants, this one is more gentle, which shows this author can write more than one comedy style. A light hearted book about a horse and its mucky mind. Great read.

Living in Liverpool I am someone that grew up knowing exactly what the Grand National was. I originally purchased this book for my dad to read, but considering he never got round to picking it up, I sat down with it for a little while myself. I was amazed at the level of love, passion and effort had gone into such a little fictional story, then I personally couldn't believe how much comedy one person could get out of a single horse. This book really did surprise me and I personally won't look at another horse again without remembering this book and feeling it might be thinking something rude when looking back at me.

As far as comedy goes, this book ticks all the boxes. Yes, the jokes are slightly immature in places, but is that the fault of the writer, or simply because it's the horse that tells us the story? What would a horse think, if a horse could think in human mind and form? This is what the book covers, whilst undergoing a journey towards the biggest race of the animals career.

In these dark days, everyone needs a little comedy in their lives. In todays world even comedy and the things said are constantly under review. This book doesn't offend anyone and comes across very modest and humble. Light hearted fun that will put a smile on your face for sure.

Although a small book like this isn't something I would normally read, I'm glad I gave it a go. The story follows a horse and its journey towards the Grand National in Liverpool. Despite being somewhat of a classy racehorse and a contender to be top class, this boy had issues. He hated male jockey bouncing their bits on his back all day long, then when a female jockey got on his back, he wouldn't perform. Vets, a horse whisperer, the stable staff, even the best jockey in the character got involved in the horses progress, resulting in major funny outcomes. A 5 star book all day long, yet needed to be longer to enjoy it more.

Short, fast paced and in funny in some places. I really enjoyed reading one of Tudeski's book without a cropped image of a photo-model in a raunchy pose.
The only issue I have with the story is that, "Ohhh a carrot, mmmm".
Anyway, what was I thinking? Yeah nothing amazing, to write home about, but a really enjoyable short read and I highly recommend it.

ps.: the real issue I had, was, the horse understands humans, so why doesn't he try to interact with them more often? Or at the least explain why he doesn't want to have meaningful interactions.

you can always tell when a writer has done their research, because the book will come to life if they have done enough. No other book could have done this more than thinking racehorse. it's a story about a racehorse that doesn't want to do anything. he thinks like a human, he looks at female horses like men do at women in real life, it was silly. silly enough to come to life, because the background and research was so strong. this is definitely a book for people who like animals or have worked in the racing industry, but a charming and cute little read.

I would have much rather this be about an animal I like other than a horse, but it was a really clever book anyway. The comedy came across as slapstick, yet it was very subtle and in your face at the face time. Although everyone can imagine what an animal is going to think, it takes a really strong imagination to come up with something like this. A very funny book and although about a sport I don't really follow, you don't need to like it to enjoy this book. Who would have thought about an horse thinking sexual things about another horse, then getting it's gender wrong? MM-mm, carrot.

I honestly didn't think I was going to like this book, but I was happily surprised by it. I already knew Jimmy Tudeski writes highly controversial, fast paced comedy, but I didn't think he would pull it off taking on the character of a horse this time. This book despite being a little short was incredibly funny. Who would think a horse would think like a human so much and who would think a horse could be just as smutty as us human beings? I really enjoyed this book and did actually have a tear in my eye at one part. Yes, the sheep called Fluffy part really got me.

Tudeski's comedies are full of fun, humour and smut and this is no different. Based on a horse thinking to itself (it not being able to talk) the book takes us on a journey towards the horses biggest race of its career, the Grand National in Liverpool. Along the way we meet jockey's, trainers, owners, stable staff, vets and a horse whisperer, all with their own comedy mannerisms and values. This book isn't what I thought it was be, it was better. Light hearted, British humour that we're very famous for. The book is not long enough in my opinion, but what I did read, I loved.

Me being into horses, I had to read this cute little book. Not exactly what I thought it would be, but did manage to laugh at most of the humour throughout it. I love the way Jimmy Tudeski got inside a horses mind, then together with his own thoughts came up with this little story. It proves he has a passion for horses too. Any friend of a horse, is always a friend of mine. Fun little book to read, extremely funny and dirty in places. Be warned x

Despite knowing nothing about horses, horse racing or the English sport, I had already become a fan of this authors writing style, so thought I would give it a go. Obviously there were some parts I didn't understand or couldn't follow, but overall this book totally surprised me. It was very funny, it was very enjoyable and it did actually make me LOL a few times too. A BOOK I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD ENJOY, the first book in ages I really enjoyed reading.

Being a lover of horses, I couldn't help but read this book. I had never read a comedy before this and I honestly didn't think it would interest me. How wrong was I?

Jimmy Tudeski's storytelling is hilarious, his attention to detail when it comes to a certain subject like horse racing is impressive and the crudeness and humour of the book just adds that extra spice. I totally enjoyed this book and will be reading more books by this author in the future.

It's about time someone wrote a comedy about horse racing and the Aintree Grand National. I'm from Liverpool so I have been to the famous meeting many times and this book not only covered the world of racing perfectly, but it was amazingly funny too. The horse, the jockeys, the stable staff, total mayhem from a man who has clearly worked in racing himself and knows what takes place behind the scenes. Move over Mr Ed, Chakalak is here.

Never did I think someone could tell as many jokes about a horse than this book did. Being a horse racing fan anyway, I knew I had to read it. All I can say, is this book was hilarious from start to finish and I loved every second of reading it. My only little problem with it, was I found it a little too short and could have been dragged out a little more. A must read for any UK horse racing fan

A funny idea that gets a little bit silly, but is still very enjoyable.

A thinking racehorse as the title suggests, who looks at another horses bottom, likes what he sees, then shockingly finds out what he's eyeing up is male. It's this kind of humour all the way through, where the bribe of a carrot does enough to make him want to race again every time he's asked to do so.

I live right next to Aintree, so I had to read this book. Although I've been to the National meeting quite a few times, I'm not going to pretend I understand or understood everything horse related in this story, but where banter sits, so does Jimmy Tudeski's writing. Who would have thought a horse would think about relationships and human habits so much?

Despite not knowing anything about horse racing, I had to read this book being a lover of horses. It's okay. Just like other Jimmy Tudeski books it's very funny and rude. Who would have thought a horse would be so naughty? I especially liked the part where the stable staff tried to have a quickie in the stable, then we got to hear what the horse was thinking at the time.

A lot of fun

I loved the idea of this book and the horse itself was very cute and funny, but I didn't understand much of what was going on. Maybe a book for people who actually understand and follow horse racing. It was readable and enjoyable, but nothing like other comedies written by this writer.

I live pretty close to Aintree so I had to read this book. Not what I was expecting from a rude Tudeski book, but it was still quite rude. Very funny, highly enjoyable and would defo read again if I need to find a smile from somewhere. Who knew a horse would think like a human so much??

Never really read a horse racing comedy before, so this was a first. Witty, fast and hilarious throughout and that was just the horse. Best book I have read in ages. Took my mind off everything going on in the world.

I so thought I was going to read a Mr Ed story, but this pleasantly surprised me. Everything a horse would think if it was human, then the stable staff acting like animals around a horse. Very funny book. Would have liked it to have been longer.

This has gotten so many 4 and 5 star reviews, but for me it was just, eh. The humor was repetitive and focused on just one aspect that it quickly lost the aspect of being funny. It reminded me of 5th grade boy humor. Not a fan at all, but at least it read really fast.
