This book is fun and definitely captures the independent spirits of housecats. I liked that Glamourpuss takes a positive approach with Bluebell. I also like the juxtaposition of real, historical pictures with the illustrations.

My daughters second library book from school. If you knew my daughter you'd laugh as hard as I did when I pulled this one out of her backpack. She is a glamorpuss alright. Cute read for the little prissy one.

Dah-ling! This is just too, too deliciously fun to pass up. Hysterical text made even funnier by the zippy, energetic illustrations.

Glamourpuss is used to getting all the attention in her household. After all, she is gorgeous and stylish -- and completely spoiled. But when her owner's sister comes to visit and brings along a puppy, Glamourpuss is horrified. Not only does she now have to vie for attention, but there's no way around it: that dog is tacky. As it turns out, though, just because someone is made to dress and act a certain way on the outside, it doesn't mean it suits them on the inside at all.

Glamourpuss is a hilarious story, filled with character and voice and a few fun surprises. The hot pink, sparkly (on the review copy, at least) cover is eye-catching and captures the spirit of the story well, and the moral is wonderful while not being preachy. A fun tale for kids and cat-lovers of all ages. While the book seems made for elementary school children, I might also stock it in a middle or high school library to share with students who feel awkward and out-of-place and seem to be searching for permission to be themselves instead of what society has made them believe they are.

Who wouldn't simply adore Glamourpuss? After all, this diva of a cat never has to do what man cats do; she simply enjoys being glamorous. But when her family's relative arrives, Glamourpuss finds her place supplanted by Bluebell, a Chihuahua dressed in silly duds and trained to do tricks. She's jealous and resentful until she realizes that Bluebell hates the way she's been treated and actually wants to follow in Glamourpuss's pawprints. Not only do I find the illustrations, created with ink, watercolor, pastel, and collage, to be visually interesting, but I adored the word choices for her movement: She descended, reclined, and extended. After all, this is one glamorous feline. this is a great read aloud title that celebrates the best in two spoiled animals who seem to know themselves better than their human companions do.

Even in the world of a pampered cat such as Glamourpuss, reality isn't always what it appears to be. When her nemesis Bluebell the fancy chihuahua, who steals all of the attention of Glamourpuss' owners misbehaves, Glamourpuss is elated until she realizes the real reason. This is a superbly entertaining picture book of naughty, spoiled pets. The illustrations in ink, watercolor, pastel, and collage capture the pet's personalities perfectly, especially the worried toothy grins of Bluebell, and the languid arrogance of Glamourpuss. Packaged in glittery pink with a smiling Glamourpuss on the cover, this crowd pleaser will never stay on the shelves.

Glamourpuss has the perfect life!

She lives in a mansion with devoted servants; her owners, the Highhorsens, are "gazillionaires" with no children; she gets gifts, attention and affection, her own room and a place at the dinner table.

What happens when Mr. Highhorsen's sister comes to visit, do you think? This is a picture book, afterall.

The illustrations perfectly depict the life of this pampered pet!

The glamorous and pampered Glamourpuss is thrown for a loop when Bluebelle the dog comes to visit. With a different costume and party trick for every occasion, Bluebelle threatens Glamourpuss's happiness--until Glamourpuss realizes what Bluebelle needs and takes her well in hand. I loved this charming picture book and its extravagant language (and David Small's perfect art).

I'm not sure what this book is about. I think that it's about friendship? But it really just seems self-centered. The cat is clearly self-centered, but there's very little development in her. Instead, she brings down Bluebelle to her level. Maybe it's about finding your true nature? But maybe it is just about a self-centered cat.

Cat owners will smile with sheepish recognition when they read this charming picture book account of a glamourous cat who has it all. Glamourpuss lives in a home where she is the center of attention. This highly indulged pet has devoted servants seeing to her every whim, expensive gifts, her own room, her own place at the dinner table, and much more. Everything is going her way until one day a relative comes for a visit and brings Bluebelle.

Bluebelle, a precocious little dog, has costumes and a wide repertoire of tricks. Suddenly, everyone seems to be paying attention to this newcomer instead of Glamourpuss. Young readers will enjoy finding out if this pampered cat will be able to regain the spotlight.

This book is a fun, charming read that is well complemented by illustrations that were created with ink, watercolor, pastel, and collage. I loved the warmth and detail of David Small’s illustrations in The Gardener by Sarah Stewart, and I love the art in this book as well.

I also think this book has a nice message for young readers who often worry about being good enough. It can be discouraging when someone new comes along and seems to grab the attention away from us. It often leads to self-doubt and fears that we are not enough (smart enough, funny enough, pretty enough, etc.). The take-away for kids is that we are all enough and sharing the spotlight and helping each other doesn’t diminish us. Using the pampered pets as a way to share this message might inspire young writers to create their own narratives about a time when they were worried about being enough.

Brief description: When a dog named Bluebell moves into the Highborn's (who were gazillionaires) mansion, their pampered cat Glamourpuss worries that Bluebell will steal her thunder; or more notably, her glamor!

Identify at least 2 characteristics of this genre and subgenre and discuss how they appear in your book.
Glamourpuss is rich, pampered, and lives in the lap of luxury. As the story states; “Her one and only job were to be glamorous, and she was very good at it.” From the start, the author and illustrator clearly appealed to their young audience through the use of book shape, color, and perspective. From the start, the characteristic of the book design mimics Glamourpuss willingness to recline on a chaise lounge through an elongated format. Color characteristics of pink, purple and gold are utilized to connect Glamourpuss’ gender and wealth throughout the book from the cover to the end pages. The illustrator clearly conveyed Glamourpuss’ lifestyle through perspective. For example, he draws as if the reader is looking down on Glamourpuss on a very tall pedestal.

In what ways and how well does the book as a whole serve its intended audience?
Collectively the author and illustrator created a funny and sweet story about friendship. Students will fall in love with Glamourpuss and Bluebell in both a read-aloud format or as an independent read. The use of complex language throughout the book is italicized and connected to the imagery which allows students to understand the story and expand their vocabulary.

This book is about a glamorous cat, that always had full attention from everyone. One day a dog came to visit to the house and she started being jealous because now the attention was for the dog and not her, so she was worried by being replace until one day she realized that it was not a bad idea becoming friends.

The major theme of the story is that when it comes to being glamorous sometimes less is more but when it come to having friends you can never have too many.

I really liked this book is very sweet and easy to understand. I recommend this book because it has a beautiful message that having friends is more important than being glamorous.

I love a book with a good intro sentence! Another “most requested” in our home. Glamourpuss is the dotted upon kitty of the Highhorsen’s and very much enjoys the roll. However, when an out of town guest comes to visit bringing a very entertaining dog, she must learn to share the spotlight and very much dislikes the change. Weeks captures the “haughty kitty” vibe with humour and animation. A fun story with a great lesson in the end.

I chose this book because I am one that judges books by their cover, and it appealed to my eyes. This is great for younger girls because self-image is already becoming a problem for girls in elementary school. This book can teach those girls that it is okay to be who you are.

A completely pampered cat, Glamourpuss, enjoyed living in luxury. One day visitors arrived with their little dog how did tricks. Glamourpuss was resentful until she realized the little dog just wanted to be glamorous too. Cute story, fun illustrations.

I think this is a very cute book with a nice message about friendship and to not always rush to conclusions. It also teaches more elaborate words and sayings to readers with their meaning and an image to explain them.

My daughter loves this book but it’s just okay. The cat is obsessed with itself so that isn’t something I would like to encourage. But it’s cute. It’s the story of friendship.
