I love that fluffy fox: everything about him says "friend." And as a fan of Fox in Socks, I enjoy seeing someone working with the same kind of constraints and coming up with something very different.
A rhyming picture book about a fox who yearns to sail a boat on the sea. Using a box and his large fluffy tail, he gives it a try. This is a simple book with minimum text and large colorful illustrations with plenty of detail (even on the endpages) that gives attentive readers an interesting story. Pair with Not a Box by Antoinette Portis or The Birthday Box by Leslie Patricelli.
Simple story of a fox using his imagination and the adventures he goes on. This book reminded me of @fionawoodcock 's book Look and Hello. In this book, author Yvonne Ivinson includes several homophones and alliteration techniques that could be used as a mentor text.
I don't think this would work well in a storytime setting because I feel like there would be too much explaining of the narrative...but it's perfect for one on one reading or for clever new readers who enjoy wordplay.
The illustrations are perfectly reflective of the simple test. This is a great book to show rhyming words and a beginning reader should be able to read it on their own.
If you are looking for a book that will get an emergent reader pulled into an adventure, give this one a try. It's sparse on words but expansive in imagination. There are plays on words that will give adults an opening for further discussion.
The author/illustrator accomplishes so much with saying so little. Wonderful read aloud for primary students, especially when learning about rhyming words.
A very short story about a fox and his imagination with this box becoming his boat. Lots of fun imagining what will happen if he goes to sea in his boat.
Not a wordless book, but almost. Only two or three words are on each page, making sure the reader will look closely at the illustrations and use his or her imagination to figure out the story.
Fox’s tail is glorious! Minimal, mostly rhyming text invites young reader to examine the illustrations to fill in the story. Love all the changing colors, the endpages, and the charming ending.
Cute! I think it would be better suited for an individual reader to read it rather than a storytime situation bc it's a super fast read! But still cute.
