I did not realize that these critters were so widespread. Maybe they're what is raiding my mom's birdfeeders, as she never sees gray squirrels in the act. Nor did I know that the flying squirrels' 'wing' flaps are actually called its patagium. Anyway, lovely book, and thanks to Little Free Libraries that show me treasures I'd never notice in a library.

My kids and I all love each book we’ve read from the Smithsonian Backyard series. We have purchased many for our own library at home. All of the books are realistic in both storyline and illustrations. They are engaging with a storybook feel, and pack in just enough interesting nonfiction facts which are told naturally throughout the book. The illustrations are detailed and beautiful, with plenty of colors and interesting elements.
This story is about a flying squirrel. The creature must find proper nesting sites as well as food, all while staying safe from a lurking cat and other predators.

I have found few books on this interesting little creature. The author presents the subject in an interesting, informative manner. The realistic artwork adds to the text. Since flying squirrels are nocturnal, the soft, dark, woody settings of the illustrations enhance the subject matter.
Perfect addition to that Fall elementary library collection.

Flying Squirrel at Acorn Place is a nonfiction book written by Barbara Gaines Winkelman. This book is a great book for children in kindergarten because they have an excellent imagination and it is a picture book which will help them to read the words. The book is about a flying squirrel that is awakened one day by a giant paw poking into his house and so he decides that he needs to look for a new home. I thought this book was a very book and the illustrations were amazing. I love to look at pictures and this book had very good page size illustrations for the readers to look at as they read the book. The theme and plot of the book were life lessons for children. It taught children they may need to sometimes walk away from their problems rather than putting themselves into danger. This is a great book for young children and I think they will really enjoy reading this book. Some children may need help with reading but they will be able to understand the meaning of the book.

This book is about flying squirrel. This flying squirrel lives in the eastern half of the United states and along the coast from Canada down to east Texas mexico and Honduras. They grow to between eight and ten inches and length. They call flying squirrel but they are not actually flying, they are gliding instead. They eat nuts, berries, sap, insect, seeds,lichens, and meat. They are consider as omnivores. I think this book is a good book to teach children about science.

This book follows Flying Squirrel over the course of one night. He looks for a new nest, hides from an owl, makes a sleeping nest, collects and stores nuts, and eats at the bird feeder. Very informative about flying squirrels with great illustrations.
