In the south, things get real dirty. Especially on Saturdays. Mud on your jeans. Grit in your beer. Your tan washes off in the shower. That's how you know it's racing day. Or as the Dirt Track Dogs like to put it, winning day. Because they aren't racing unless they're winning.
With the mating of their alpha, the Dirt Track Dogs find their carefully structured life spinning out of control. After a wreck at the speedway, Beast decides if he wants to remain in control of his temper, he needs to leave town. Leaving his pack could devastate them, but he longs for a mate of his own, and watching his best friend live in mated bliss is pure torture for his wanting wolf. A trip to the hospital to apologize for an accident that wasn’t his fault has him questioning his decision.
Who knew a night at the track would land Punk in the hospital, out of a job, and unable to get where she needs to go. Now she must depend on the man who ran her over until her broken leg heals. With a devastated past, she doesn’t trust easily, but she never expected the Dirt Track Dogs to make her feel so at home in their club. Or for one of them to awaken feelings within her she thought long dead. With his careful touch and unyielding patience, Beast makes her want to have a relationship again. The question is, can she stop thinking of the past long enough to be happy?

I like this series for its fated mates with instantly devoted heroes and the found family feel that the guys have with their wolf shifter pack. This book starts off where book 1 ended, but it does standalone. Punk (h) is in the hospital after being injured at the racing track and Beast (H) has gone to bring her a small gift to say sorry as he feels responsible (he's not). Except, once he's in the same room as her, he recognizes her as his mate. Punk also comes to the pack's house and to work in their shop while she's dealing with a broken leg from the accident, meaning all the proximity. This is character and relationship focused with no big plot. Written in third person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and neither are virgins (both have been celibate for years).
Punk is human and has no idea about shifters. She's also defensive and cautious with new people due to a past assault. Beast was so sweet with how he showed her that she could trust him, he was so considerate and even with his wolf riding him, he reined himself in. The story does move at a very fast pace though, even with Punk's past. Of course, she learns about shifters, not in the best way and in a scene that briefly had me all in my feelings, and has a bit of adjusting to do. But adjusts she does and very rapidly. A little too rapidly for me. I loved the ease of their feelings for each other that also acknowledged how she needed time, but I wish there had been some more page time between her discovery, steamy times, and the end. This book also has one short and interrupted steamy scene and one lengthy scene, which makes sense.
Side characters in the form of Punk's BFFs, Ella (h from book 1) and Annie (the h for the next book) and Beast's pack provide some humor and fun. This is a great group of characters. The guys all have their own trauma that they've had to process since they survived a fire that decimated the shifters in the area, including their families. They tease, worry about, and support each other.
The ending is very much HFN and I really wanted more. I know these characters will feature as side characters for the rest of the series, but I wanted to see them under more normal conditions here, with Punk adjusting to the mate bond, addressing where they'd each live, and all those day to day life things. Still, this was an enjoyable and quick read and I'll likely continue picking them up when I want this fated mate feeling with minimal angst.
Trigger warning: recollections of sexual assault (vague but specific with the emotional impact) and continued mental/emotional handling of this trauma

My thoughts: I love this series. It has enough grit to make the stories interesting but not so much drama that it makes you want to bash your kindle. The alpha’s are always loyal, sexy and adorable. The heroines are confident, likable and cute.
Overall Rating: 4 Do You Recommend This Book: Yes ReRead: maybe Would You Read More Books By This Author: Yes
I absolutely loved this book. It was short and sweet! Beast is an awesome hero- totally devoted to Punk. He was patient and loving. Punk was a good heroine too. But Beast is the best part of the book. I am so thankful this author doesn't feel the need to create drama with OW- she actually uses her imagination and comes up with other ways to make the story interesting. My only problem is that I wish it was longer! I want more! Safety gang safe
Super sweet. I liked this one better than the first. I felt we got a little more substantive background. Plus Beast was too sweet not too love! Punk has the potential to annoy me. I hate her name. But she was pretty ok. Considering her past, she did a good job of not pushing him away. I was proud of her.
This is another quick, easy and totally safe read.
another sweet shifter romance in this series. my heart broke for Punk, the heroine. the hero was once again amazing. This was a great quick shifter read. I look forward to reading the others in this series.
Just finshed and things didn't disappoint looking forward to the next book. Kinda want my own shifter mate now and not just for the great and passionate sex...
I search high and low for stories I can truly feel are romance. Because honestly romance has changed so much over the 25 years I've been really reading. I find now it's all about angst, deceptions, sadness, demons or just anything that can shake up the love story and make it something harder, more painful.. So for one of those rare readers like myself , who look for stories where the characters aren't against falling in love, but actually want it or at least don't fight it. I find these stories harder and harder to find. So to stumble upon an author like P. Jameson, is beyond refreshing. To find heroes who aren't all about no strings..or just playing the field but actually celibate..just wow. Since when is it a 4 letter word to actually just wait for the right person.. No I'm not saying oh stay a virgin..but to read a story where sex is something ..special..that a bond is something to be proud of and to accept that there will only be them forever is something to be cherished well I just find I devour those stories..for today forever, faithful and loyal love is hard to find in so called romance.. So I will gladly snap up gems like this series..just to get that sweet taste of something that really feels like love stories. This is one sweet and sexy series ..but oh so romantic too. Beast was amazing and so patient. I adored how he cherished and did everything in his power to heel and make Punk feel safe. For a novella to make me laugh, cry and smile a lot..wow that's true talent. I'm so thrilled to find this author.. Because she truly knows the meaning of romance.
**I of course found that the ANGST became a little heavy in later books..and now I need to take a break.
I downloaded this book because I wanted your basic werewolf mating story and that's what I got. Unlike some of the other books in this (and the previous) series, this one wasn't too angsty. I liked the characters and the basic premise of a group of male shifters who survived a horrific fire. After their families were killed each man dealt with his pain in various self-destructive ways until they decided to cut out all distractions and rebuild themselves.
Now that their alpha has mated the other men are feeling restless. Luckily for Beast his mate turns out to be one of the alpha's mate's best friends. Beast is very, very grateful to have found his mate and I liked how emotional he was. He realizes Punk is his mate before he sees her and the description of how he feels as he approaches her hospital bed is really sweet. There's no real plot other than their romance.
Aw, I really loved that! Beast was such a great hero - I loved how he treated her so carefully knowing she was hurt by her past and was skittish because of it. He was so devoted to her. Definitely putting this one on my re-read shelf!
TRUE LOVE FOR THE BEAST !!! I am totally in love with this series! Racing the Beast is the second release in an amazing new series, Dirt Track Dogs by P. Jameson and it totally rocks! Although this is a series, I believe the books can be read as stand alone stories since each has its own, very happily-ever-after ending, but it most certainly will enrich your reading experience by reading the books in the order in which they were published. Reading a shifter series about dirt track racing is a first for me. Being from the deep south where we love our racing, I was immediately intrigued, and actually, I live only two miles from our local speedway so you know I'm already a fan! And Jameson does not disappoint! The first book in the series, Racing the Alpha was sensational but this book completely stole my heart! I laughed hysterically and sobbed uncontrollably but at the end, I was left with tears of joy on my face and love in my heart. If you have ever read any of my reviews, then you probably have already guessed that reading is a very emotional experience for me and I express my feelings through my heartfelt reviews. If an author can bring me to tears, cause me to sob, break my heart, and then miraculously make me laugh, and heal my heart and soul with their words, then that author has done their job exceptionally well and Jameson has delivered just that - again! Let me preface this review by saying, neither of the first two books in the series are packed with actual racing. There is a good bit more in the first book than in the second but each story actually revolves more around the characters and features their lives, loves and conflicts. This story is exciting, thrilling, fast paced, original, compelling, heartwarming, humorous, sweet, romantic, arousing and sensual. Oh, did I mention hot? Well, it's definitely HOT!. The dialogue is smart, exceptionally well written and flows beautifully. And the characters, well, let's just say they are the heart and soul of this story. They are captivating, fascinating, engaging, endearing and sexy as sin. They grab your imagination, capture your heart and hold you prisoner from beginning to end. Jameson does a brilliant job of combining these elements into an incredibly entertaining and heartwarming paranormal romance. Beast is having a difficult time accepting the changes in his rag-tag pack, the Dirt Track Dogs. For years, their wolf pack had consisted of only five males - their alpha Drake Folsom, Blister, Surge, Diz and himself. After their packs were wiped out by a forest fire twenty years ago, he and the other four survivors had banded together to heal and form their own pack. Their goal was to eliminate anything that would prevent them from healing from their tragic pasts. For Drake and Diz, it was alcohol. For Surge, it was sex. For Blister, it was.....well, everything - he needed solitude. For Beast, it was anything that could anger him and cause him to lose control because when he did, he could definitely become a dangerous wolf or should I say, beast. So, they made a pact - no drinking, no sex, no fighting, no losing control and they would devote themselves only to their racing and each other. And for twenty years, it had worked - until now. His alpha had recently found his true mate, Ella Freeman and the pack now had a female. Now they all want sex and it's messing with everyone's heads - both of them. Huh? Just a little of the book's humor, folks! Now, he and his wolf are both unsettled and unhappy, and to make matters worse, he was having a difficult time controlling his temper. Seeing Drake and Ella, happily mated, makes him secretly wish for the same kind of relationship and especially for someone special to share his life and his bed. He's happy for them, he truly is, but why can't he find his mate? He just can't take it anymore! There's only one thing left to do - he would have to leave. He knew his pack is his only family but maybe, just maybe, there's a chance he could find his intended somewhere else. Besides, he desperately needs to get his head straight. Good, now he has a plan but before he leaves he needs to stop by Cedar Valley Hospital to visit Ella's best friend, Punk. There had been a three car pile-up during the last race that had sent Beast's car rolling and finally landing on the fence right where Drake's mate, Ella, and her friend Punk were standing. The fence had collapsed, injuring Punk, and although he knows it wasn't actually his fault, he still felt responsible. He doesn't know Punk, has never even met her, but still feels that he owes her an apology before he leaves. Yep, he would stop by to see her, apologize and then he could be on his way. Right? Wrong! Well, it's a great plan but sometimes fate can be such a fickle mistress! Beast can't believe it - he's scented the most tantalizing smell, ever! It's the smell of his mate and it's coming from Punk's room. What? His mate is Ella's best friend, Punk! Oh my! And she's the most beautiful woman he has ever seen! His! His mate! She can have all the love he has to offer and everything he owns! There's only two little problems. First, she's human and doesn't know he's a wolf and second but most importantly, she doesn't want him - doesn't want any man! What the heck? How is that possible? How can she not feel their connection? Now all he has to do is somehow convince her to trust him, accept Wolf, love him and mate with him! Easy, right? Oh my glory! How in the name of heaven can he ever accomplish the impossible? Maybe it isn't quite so impossible after all, especially when the lovely lady Fate is involved. Handsome, hunky, sexy and incredibly sweet wolf shifter-check! Beautiful, brave and very snarky human heroine who is a survivor of rape and a brutal attack-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, heartbreaking angst, sweet romance, forever love and uplifting hope for a happy future-you bet! Deliciously cute, fabulously funny, seriously sexy, completely captivating and definitely entertaining. I can hardly wait to read Book Three. I wonder if it will be about Blister, Surge or Diz??? I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but count me in!
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Beast Punk ---------------------------------- What happens? Punk is hurt in the accident from the previous book. You don't need to read it to understand what happened because you can get the idea from this one but it helps. Beast is the wolf shifter that discovers Ella's friend (as expected) his is true mate and chaos ensues. Punk was raped and as a way to not explore this (fine with) the rapist died in prison. So she doesn't like touch and acts accordingly to that. Final thoughts Nice romance, I don't think its long enough but do like their story. Would I read again?: Maybe Would I read this author again?: Yes
'Fish out of water', shifter romance. Beast despairs of never finding his mate. Punk despairs of never letting someone close. The patience and care Beast has for Punk is beautifully written - it has all the feels and the plenty of spice as well. Fave Quote “I’d say... because I love you. And I trust you. And I want you. And I love who I am when I’m with you. I feel whole. Complete. Fresh and new, and like life didn’t fuck me over like I thought it had.”
This was another good story in the series. I love the stories of how each of them came to be who they are. Sweet gentle beast is everything a women could want. He is just who Punk need to trust and live again. I think Blister and Annie will be my favorite and I can’t wait to ready their story of love and healing. Until next time y’all happy reading.
*WARNING* intended for mature readers I thought book 1 was a pretty basic Insta love story. This book is really the same thing with different characters. What I can't get past is how is how traumatized Punk is and then 5 days later, she all well and good. This book isn't for me, but I would suggest you read this for yourself and form your own opinion.
I love this story, Beast had my heart right from the first chapter, he's so wonderfully sweet I found myself wanting this story to go on forever just for a few more moments of that wonderful man. I couldn't wish a better h on him than Punk, she's fire and sparks and all kinds of perfect.
Safe Completely... but a few details about her rape years ago. no virgins, no details about their sex lives before they were celibate. Her 10 years (after her rape), him 20 years (after the fire).
Super adorable and surprisingly tender and sweet. Glad that beast didn’t have to do anything to the perp that would have dampened their story of overcoming. Loved these two though
Racing the Beast: (Paranormal Shifter Romance) (Dirt Track Dogs Book 2) by P. Jameson – There is nothing that makes me melt faster than a tiny romantic gesture that makes someone feel seen! Happy Reading!
I've just read the first two in this series and I'm hooked! This author was recommended to me an I love every word I've read so far! Can't wait to read part 3
Another great fast paced shifter romance. Beast finally finds his mate in Ella's best friend Punk. They both have their own issues and make a great couple.
