Francine Paula Pascal was an American author best known for her Sweet Valley series of young adult novels. Sweet Valley High, the backbone of the collection, was made into a television series, which led to several spin-offs, including The Unicorn Club and Sweet Valley University. Although most of these books were published in the 1980s and 1990s, they remained so popular that several titles were re-released decades later.
In the book "Tearing Me Apart" by Francine Pascal most of the characters have to deal with conflicts. But, the story mostly revolves around Evan, Andy & Dave. I picked this book up because it seemed very interesting. Then, later on I found that the author has more books of this kind. Which they all connect to each other & have the same character just different problems.
The story begins by introducing the main character which is Evan. Everyone at school thinks & guesses that Evan Plummer has the perfect life. But, they don't really know what's happening to him. Evan has a girlfriend named Jade Wu. Everything seeems to be good in his life. He has friends, a girlfriend, parents & is doing great in school. But, one day Evan gets a notice that "tears him apart".
Evan's parents, Mr & Mrs Plummer, tell Evan that they are having a divorce. Evan goes crazy & doesn't understand why. Everything seemed to be perfect. Evan asks & asks his parents why this happening but, they never reply to his question, all they say is "We're doing this as a family." Everytime Evan asks his parents why it's happening they say the same thing. Evan tryies to figure out why they are divorcing. He gets mad as his parents because they don't tell him why & always tell them they're doing this as a family.
One day Evan & his bisexual bestfriend Andy go to his mom's office so, Evan can confront her & persuade her to tell him what the reason is. While Evan is inside his mom's office, Andy is waiting outside & meets Evan's friend, Dave. Andy throughtout the story makes a huge friendship with Dave. While Andy & Dave come back from a date they arrive at Dave's house & Andy see's Evan's moms' car. His first reaction is to tell Evan what he saw. But, Dave doesn't want Andy to let Evan know. Dave tells Andy all the details & how this has been happening for several months already.
Few days later, Evan arrives home early from school. He walks in & hears his mom laughing. Evans first thought was that Ms. Plummer & Mr. Plummer are working things out. But, Evan walks in & see's Dave's father & his mom. Evan is really shocked from what he just saw. Evan couldn't believe what he saw because all this time he blamed his father for the divorce.
Overall, I think this book is an excellent book. For me, it was easy to read. I would really like to read more books from this series. I would recommend this book to any of my classmates because I am sure that they will enjoy just as I did.
